“This is a great turnaround for us after the disappointing away loss to Kwara United on match-day 31,” Bashir told journalists.

Insurance, Nasarawa United reclaim deducted points

Bendel Insurance and Nasarawa United  have both won their appeals against deducted three points and three goals from alleged assaults on officials in two Nigeria Premier Football League games in the on-going season.

The NPFL had sanctioned Bendel Insurance for allegedly assaulting match officials when they hosted Kano Pillars on 11th  November 2024 at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin while Nasarawa United suffered the same situation because of the mild drama that ensued after their 1-1 draw at home to Rivers United.

Both teams points deducted were restored after the Nigeria Football Federation Disciplinary Committee sitting held on 12th  February 2025 on the protest lodged by the teams against the Nigeria Premier League’s decision.

The Barrister Obikwelu-led Committee, in its findings,, discovered that the Benin-based side did not provide adequate and effective security during the match Day 11 fixture between Bendel Insurance vs. Kano Pillars FC in that some of their fans had access to the restricted areas.

On the allegation of assaulting officials, the committee found out that there was no evidence that the attack on match officials was grievous.

The committee, however, in its decision, affirmed paragraphs a, b, c, d, and f of the decisions of the NPFL as contained in Form 16, Summary Jurisdiction Notice to Bendel Insurance FC dated 11th November 2024.

The order in paragraph “e” deducting 3 points and 3 goals from the accrued points/goals of Bendel Insurance FC by the NPFL was, however, set aside on the ground that the assault on the match officials was not grievous as provided in Rule C11 of the Frameworks and Rules of the NPFL.

The committee also set aside the NPFL decision to deduct three points and three goals from Nasarawa United for want of sufficient evidence that Rivers United’s officials and the match officials were molested.

With the three points deducted now restored Bendel Insurance have now moved to the 10th spot on the log with 31 points from 23 games.

Bendel Insurance will take on Niger Tornadoes in match day 24 of the ongoing 2024/2025 season next in Lafia following a goalless draw in Minna in the first round.

On the part of Nasarawa United, they have moved to the 17th spot with 25 points from 23 games after the points deducted were restored.

However, the Match Commissioner’s performance was deemed unsatisfactory, resulting in his reassignment to the Nigeria National League (NNL) as a punitive measure.

Another case that was reviewed by the NFF Disciplinary Committee was Plateau United’s appeal, following a N4.74 million fine as well as a three-point and three-goal deduction. In their case, the committee upheld NPFL’s findings and decisions in full.

Nasarawa United’s poor home form worries Dogo

Nasarawa United head coach, Kabiru Dogo, is worried over his side’s poor home form in the ongoing season.

A disappointed Dogo stated this in his post-match reactions after the Solid Miners were on Sunday forced to a goalless draw against Bayelsa United in a Matchday Five 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, encounter.

“I am not a happy man today that we couldn’t break down our opponents. We created chances, but our finishing was off,” Dogo declared. “However, I am proud of my boys, they were just unlucky today. If you look at our performance away from home, we get decent results, but back home, it’s a different scenario.

“Though that’s football. The league is improving, and what counts most now is for a team to play good football and score more goals than the opponents.

“With time, we will break the jinx and begin to win our home games. We will work on our attacking play and look to bounce back in subsequent games.

“I wish to plead with our supporters and fans to be patient with us and pray for us because we are a young side working to form a formidable team that they will be proud of.”

The result leaves the Solid Miners in 11th  position with five points from five games and will be travelling to Ikenne, Ogun State, to face Remo Stars, on Sunday, 13th  October, 2024.

Coaches, players sue Nasarawa Utd FC over N182.5m unpaid salaries

Joined in the suit, which is before Justice Kenneth Amadi, is the Nasarawa State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice.

Mr Paul Hammachi, counsel to the five coaches and the players, in the originating summons, claimed that the club sacked them and refused to pay their entitlements totaling N182.54 million – N46.35 for the coaches and  .N136.2million for the players.

The Coaches team comprised of Evans Ogenyi, Sylvester Ekoja, Michael Jatau, Bala Nikyu and El Shammah Inusa who served as Technical Adviser, Assistant Coach, Chief Coach, Goal Keeper Trainer and Chief trainer respectively, before being laid off in 2015.

The plaintiffs claimed that the N182.544,000 was scrutinized and awarded to them on Sept. 10, 2015 by Nigeria Football Federation Players’ Status and arbitration Committee, Abuja.

“But, two years after this arbitration, the club and the Nassarawa state Government have not paid us,” they alleged in the affidavit.

They prayed the court to enforce the verdict since it was, in itself, equal to a judgement of the court.

At the hearing of the matter on Monday, Counsel to the defendants, Mr Ishaku Usman, who is also the Solicitor-General of Nassarawa State, pleaded for extension of time.

“I have two motions before the court, but I wish to withdraw one because I have lumped the two into one.

“My Lord, the second motion is praying for an extension of time within which to enable us properly present our memorandum of appearance and equally depose our affidavit against the originating summon, ’’ Usman stated.

The Judge obliged and struck out the first motion of the defendants, after the plaintiffs counsel said he had no objection to it.

Hammachi, however, told the court that he could not continue with the hearing of the case since he was only served with the second motion “this morning”.

He applied for an adjournment to enable him study the motion filed by the defense counsel before replying to it.

Justice Amadi adjourned the case to Jan. 24, 2018 for further mention.
