Ebira group condemns Natasha’s suspension by Senate, calls for reversal

The Ebira Progressive Association, Asaba, Delta State, has strongly condemned the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the National Assembly.

In a statement, the group expressed deep concern over what it described as the “intimidation and harassment” of the senator, following her petition against the Senate President.

The association criticised the handling of the matter, calling it a “slap on democratic process and a strangulation of the voiceless.”

The group urged the Senate to immediately reverse its decision, arguing that the suspension undermines democracy and sets a negative precedent for women in politics.

“We stand firmly behind our distinguished senator in this trying time. We believe she will emerge victorious against this political manipulation,” the statement read.

  • Still on the Natasha matter

    Still on the Natasha matter

Surely, if those minding the information committee of the senate couldn’t be accused of having done a particularly stellar job of effectively containing the minor stirring in the teacup that has now assumed a threatening conflagration in Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber, perhaps even worse could be said about those managing the image of the man in the eye of the storm in the wake of the so-called Natashagate.

Thanks to Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator from Kogi Central for teaching her colleagues a thing or two on how the spin works; it seems to me a new day in which emotions and artful manipulation will coalesce to deliver sellable, irresistible, but sizzling  narrative about sex in high places. With Akpabio’s corner on virtual AWOL, should we still be asking how things have turned beyond ugly to potentially irredeemable embarrassment?

It may well be that politicians wouldn’t be what they are without their uncanny ability to muddle up facts, to twist and then proceed to foist their specious interpretation of reality on the rest of the orderly society. But that the enlightened society – particularly those who, by their orientation, are supposed to be chroniclers of truth, would join the politicians in marketing devious narratives for some narrow, partisan ends can only be described as the ultimate tragedy.

Yes, it’s been weeks since Nigerians were treated to the drama on the floor of the senate. At this time, it is doubtful if there is any Nigerian still in confusion about the sequence of the events that took place- the only probable exception being the usual tribe – the hordes of conflict entrepreneurs who seek to make a capital of what is actually no more than a hare-brained delinquency.

Then, a senator, the chief whip, with the name Mohammed Tahir Monguno, had risen to raise some observations on the conduct of a certain senator in refusing to proceed to the seat allotted to her following some changes in sitting arrangement. He then proceeded to read from the senate red book as if to clear any doubt that the exercise was anything extraordinary. Citing the authority of the presiding officer as captured in the book, the distinguished senator from Borno had reminded all that the exercise was entirely the prerogative of the senate president.

Thereafter, Akpoti-Uduaghan, against whom the complaint was made jumped to her feet –claiming her authority from the same book. The problem was that the presiding officer would have her know that she could only validly raise her matter of privilege from the seat allotted to her!

There was no suggestion that the privilege would be denied her; only that the rules of the chamber required that she speak from her allotted seat, which she apparently thought was not photogenic enough! What followed was hell literally let loose in the chamber with the now out-of-control senator daring the authority of the institution and that of its leader.

That was the drama – a very shameful one – that Nigerians saw on ‘live’ television. The story of a senator being required to leave the chamber for unruly behaviour is one that Nigerians should not forget in a hurry!

Worse however was to come.  Next stop was Berekete Radio, a station which, for its famed notoriety, could neither be accused of good judgment nor sound ethical practice. The station, in a rather strange twist to the event that was then gathering steam, and in a series of follow-ups that could only have been well choreographed, placed a call to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, requesting for her account of the events on the floor of the senate. If that part of the drama could be described as entertaining, no less intriguing is the barely disguised spin designed to whip emotions against the yet-to-be-heard number three citizen, who, moments later, would be summoned to the live programme without formal notice or invitation!!

Even that singular act of putting the senate on the spot was just as terrible.

Now, a lot has happened since to give Nigerians enough to chew. From high-octave TV appearances that seek to supply ample flesh to shadows in the absence of substance, to court cases that appear designed to inject life into the matter while it lasts. Of particular note is the narrative of sexual harassment, whose particulars have remained the petitioner’s best kept secret, well timed to whip supporters into frenzy. Not only has the latter trended, but has trumped everything else even when Nigerians have not been availed a scintilla of proof!

To our hordes of street jurors, nothing about the contemptible treatment of the highest law-making body by a member would seem to matter. Nothing of the carefully laid out procedures of the ethics and privileges committee designed to guarantee fair and expeditious hearing can make sense. In the eyes of those cheering her on, the senate, not the particular individual sworn to drag the individual into the cesspit and who, as it turns out, is yet to familiarise herself with the rules of the institution in which she claims to represent the good people of Kogi Central, is the one that erred!

Little wonder the part of the bizarre narrative that the senate subordinates its rules to the whims of gender activists on the whiff of mere allegations by asking the senate president to step down!  Talk of the lone warrior making good with her voluble, fit-for-camera activism even when her understanding of the simple rules of the institution in which she is privileged to serve is utterly suspect!

The above narrative is the one on the verge of being buried by the lynch mob in the specious narrative in which Senator Akpabio and the distinguished members of the Upper House are being cast in the image of Lucifer and his fallen angels. As for the individual who desecrated the hallowed chambers of the senate, broke protocols, defied her country’s foremost institution, and thought little of dragging the entire nation to that global body – the Inter-Parliamentary Union – to settle personal scores, I can hear some Nigerians demanding her being asked to go and sin no more, if only to prove how gender-friendly our parliament is!

That is where we are at the moment. Who knows whether her next stop will be the office of the United States president, Donald Trump? Or even the United States senate. Who says there are limits to such unbridled delinquency by our pampered, over-fed elite?  Whichever way things turn out, that date February 20, seems unlikely to be forgotten by Nigerians in a hurry.

Kogi Central constituents reject recall, demand Natasha’s reinstatement

The Concerned Constituents of Kogi Central Senatorial District have rejected any attempt to recall Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan following her suspension from the Senate.

The group insisted that the suspension is illegal and a violation of their democratic rights.

In a statement by Hon. Abdulrahaman Badamasiuy, Coordinator/convener, on Monday, the constituents declared support for Akpoti-Uduaghan and warned against any attempt to fraudulently remove her from office.

They also called on the Senate to immediately reverse her suspension, arguing that it deprives them of federal representation in the National Assembly.

The constituents emphasised that Akpoti-Uduaghan remained their legitimate representative, having been overwhelmingly elected in the 2023 general elections to serve until May 2027.

“Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan remains the one in whom we deposited our legitimacy as a Senatorial Constituency, and nobody can unscrupulously violate our democratic and constitutional rights,” the statement reads.

They further stressed that all communities in Kogi Central stand firmly behind her and will never compromise on the quality of representation she has provided since assuming office.

The group outlined several key demands and warnings: Immediate reinstatement – The Senate must terminate the illegal suspension of Akpoti-Uduaghan to restore constitutional representation for Kogi Central.

They urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government to ensure her safety and prevent any further provocations against the peace-loving people of Kogi Central.

While they have remained peaceful, they expect others to do the same, urging authorities to act swiftly in addressing their concerns.

The constituents called on the Senate to immediately reverse what they described as an unjust and unconstitutional suspension, allowing Akpoti-Uduaghan to resume her duties.

“Let no one provoke us any further while we look forward to having our concerns addressed within the shortest possible time,” they concluded.

CUPP: Alleged planned arrest of Natasha, dangerous turn for democracy

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) on Monday described the alleged plan to arrest Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as a dangerous turn for democracy in Nigeria.

The coalition made this assertion in Abuja, in a statement issued by its national secretary, High Chief Peter Ameh, in Abuja.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan who has been suspended for six months by the red chamber over alleged misconduct, had last week reported Senate President Godswill Akpabio to the Inter-Parliamentary Union in New York, claiming that her ordeal followed her rebuffing the Senate President’s sexual advances.

According to Ameh, the development if allowed to materialize would cast a dark shadow over Nigeria’s democratic landscape and, raise serious questions about the state of freedom of expression and movement in the country.

He called on Nigerians to resist any attempt to arrest the suspended Senator under any guise.

The statement reads: “In a startling revelation, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has raised an alarm, claiming that there are plans underway to arrest her.

“This disturbing assertion, if true, casts a dark shadow over Nigeria’s democratic landscape, raising serious questions about the state of freedom of expression and movement in the country.

“The senator’s outcry is not just a personal plea for justice; it is a clarion call to all Nigerians who cherish the principles of democracy to stand against what could be the beginning of a full-blown dictatorship.

“Senator Natasha’s fears stem from what she perceives as a targeted effort to silence her voice.

“Any attempt to arrest her, she warns, would serve as undeniable evidence that Nigeria’s democratic ideals are under severe threat.

“Freedom of expression and movement – cornerstones of any functioning democracy – would suffer a crushing blow if such an action were to materialize.

“The mere suggestion of an elected official being apprehended for speaking out is a chilling prospect, one that evokes memories of authoritarian regimes rather than a nation governed by the will of its people.

“Compounding this troubling situation is the conduct of the Nigerian Senate itself. According to what we have seen played out so far, the Senate, ab initio, has made a grave error in judgment by refusing to grant her a fair hearing.”

According to him, the alleged refusal by the Senate to grant her a fair hearing undermines the very institution meant to uphold justice and fairness. The Senate, as a body of elected representatives, is duty-bound to protect the rights of its members and, by extension, the citizens they serve.

He added: “By denying Senator Natasha the opportunity to defend herself or present her case, the Senate risks eroding its credibility and signaling a dangerous precedent: that dissent within its ranks will be met with suppression rather than dialogue.

“Nigeria’s democracy, though resilient, is not invincible. The arrest of a duly elected senator—chosen by the votes of the people—would strike at the heart of the democratic process.

“It would suggest that those in power are willing to trample on the electorate’s will to maintain control, a hallmark of dictatorship rather than a government accountable to its citizens.”

The former National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), said if such matters indeed lead to Senator Natasha’s arrest, the implications would be dire.

“Our democracy, already grappling with challenges of corruption, insecurity, and institutional decay, could be doomed to a fate where power is wielded not through consensus but through coercion.

“The situation demands urgent reflection and action.

Nigerians must ask themselves: what kind of nation do we aspire to be?

“One where elected officials live in fear of reprisal for speaking their minds, or one where the principles of justice, fairness, and freedom prevail? Senator Natasha’s cry is not hers alone; it is a warning to all who value the fragile democracy Nigeria has fought to sustain.

“If her arrest comes to pass, it will not just be an attack on one senator—it will be an assault on the very soul of the nation.

“The alleged plan to arrest Senator Natasha Akpabio must be met with fierce resistance from all quarters. The Senate must reverse its misstep and grant her a fair hearing, while the government must reaffirm its commitment to democratic ideals.

“Anything less risks plunging Nigeria into a crisis from which its democracy may not recover. The stakes are high, and the time to act is now —before the echoes of dictatorship drown out the voices of the people.”

Prove your allegations, Senatespokesman, Akpabio’s aide tell Natasha

The Senate spokesman Adeyemi Adaramodu yesterday said Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the Red Chamber have no reason to join issues with suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Mrs. Akpoti-Uduaghan yesterday told an online newspaper why she attended the UN Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in New York, even though she did not secure approval to do so.

She also alleged that some people were planning to arrest her on her return to the country.

Adaramodu said: “She’s looking for her lost content creation needle in a haystack. The Senate President and the Nigerian Senate have no reason to join issues with her anymore.

“If she’s being haunted by her unguarded vituperations against Nigeria at the IPU in faraway New York, she should spare the Senate, which is not ready to be her accomplice in such a sordid voyage.”

Also, the Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, challenged Mrs. Akpoti-Uduaghan to prove her allegations against Akpabio.

Eyiboh said: “His Excellency, Senator Godswill Akpabio, is the President of the Senate and Chairman of the National Assembly and not of any security agencies.

Also, a youth support group in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the APC Youth League, has faulted Mrs. Akpoti-Uduaghan’s vituperations against Akpabio.

In a statement by its National President, Olamide Lawal, the group said: “As responsible and respected youths of the APC, we want to urge Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to reflect on her actions and consider the consequences of her behaviour.

“It is essential to maintain order and decorum in the Senate, and Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions have fallen short of this standard.”

…as senator raises the alarm over alleged plot to arrest her

The Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, has challenged Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to provide evidence supporting her claims against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, in a report published by Premium Times on Sunday, alleged that Akpabio orchestrated her removal from the United Nations premises in New York after she reported her sexual harassment claims to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

The Kogi Central senator, who was recently suspended from the Senate for six months over alleged misconduct, had traveled to the UN headquarters, where she claimed her suspension was politically motivated to silence her.

She also alleged a plot to arrest her upon her return to Nigeria.

Akpoti-Uduaghan insisted that she independently secured accreditation and financed her trip to the IPU meeting in New York, despite not being officially nominated by the National Assembly.

Premium Times reported that she provided a detailed account of how she attended the event without official endorsement.

She was said to have also explained that she registered for the meeting online as a senator and secured her accreditation because she was already on IPU’s mailing list as a past attendee.

She reportedly said she personally funded her trip to the global parliamentary meeting after receiving approval to attend.

“I registered online as a senator. The suspension does not remove my legitimacy as a senator. I registered online and got a pass.

“I attended the same programme last year and was already on the mailing list. After I got a pass, I bought my own ticket and funded my trip and participation at the event,” she was quoted to have said.

She said that the IPU meeting was not exclusive to government officials but also open to individuals and civil society organisations as well.

Akpoti-Uduaghan said she travelled to New York with a visa on her ordinary Nigerian passport and not with an official passport.

While describing her suspension from the Senate as illegal, she said it did not however, take away her legitimacy as an elected senator and insisted that she attended the IPU meeting in her official capacity and spoke as a legitimate representative of her people.

Akpoti-Uduaghan also alleged that plans are underway to arrest her upon her return to Nigeria.

“… I’m aware there are plans underway to have me arrested as soon as I arrive Abuja,” she reportedly said.

“The Senate President Akpabio sent three staff headed by the Chargè D’Affairs of the Nigerian embassy in New York to evacuate me from the United Nations premises right after my speech. I was rescued by parliamentarians from other countries and the security.”

However, when contacted, the Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, challenged Akpoti-Uduaghan to prove her allegations against Akpabio.

“His Excellency Senator Godswill Akpabio GCON is the President of the Senate and Chairman of the National Assembly and not of any Security Agencies.

“Whoever asserts must prove,” Eyiboh said in response to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations.

APC youth league condemns Natasha’s allegations against Akpabio

    …say her misconduct demeans womanhood

The APC Youth League, a leading youth support group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticised what it describes as an unnecessary affront by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja over the weekend, the National President of the League, Comrade Olamide Lawal, condemned the senator’s actions, warning that they could disrupt the peace and integrity of the Nigerian Senate.

The controversy stems from Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Akpabio, a claim that has sparked intense debate and tension within the upper legislative chamber.

While acknowledging the senator’s right to voice her concerns, Comrade Lawal criticized her approach, describing it as “unbecoming and detrimental to the Senate as an institution.”

According to him, “As a responsible and respected youths of the APC, we want to urge Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to reflect on her actions and consider the consequences of her behavior.”

“It is essential to maintain order and decorum in the Senate, and Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions have fallen short of this standard.” He noted

“You can see that the Senate’s decision to suspend her for six months as recommended by the Senate Committee on Ethics and Public Petitions underscoring the gravity of her actions have also received widespread commendations from various groups. We also like to add our voice in support of that suspension.”

However, Akpabio has since apologized for his remarks, stating that he would never intentionally denigrate any woman.

Comrade Olamide Lawal called on Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to reconsider her approach and work towards maintaining a peaceful and respectful atmosphere in the Senate.

He said, “The six-month suspension is a significant consequence, and one that highlights the importance of maintaining order and decorum in the Senate and it would serve as a deterrent and lesson to everyone of us too, moving forward.”

  • Natasha: This is no attack on women in politics, says Nwoko

Natasha: This is no attack on women in politics, says Nwoko

The Senator representing Delta North, Prince Ned Nwoko, yesterday decried what he called the emotional manipulation and misrepresentation of facts trailing the six-month suspension slammed on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Nwoko, in a statement expressed concern that the issue has been  “twisted into a false narrative of victimization and suppression.”

“Let it be clear: what was before the Senate was not her petition—something she herself has confirmed—but her conduct on the Senate floor, which violated the decorum expected of lawmakers,” he said and asked  critics to  “separate facts from sensationalism and resist the growing trend of exploiting gender sentiments to mask disorderly conduct within the Senate.”

He said that contrary to the insinuation in some quarters, the whole saga resulted from the reallocation of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to a new seat.

He said: “The issue started with a simple matter—seat reallocation. This is a normal and longstanding practice in the Senate. I have personally been moved three times.

    Here’s how it works:

“Whenever a senator leaves for any reason—whether due to death, defection, or other circumstances—there is an adjustment in the seating arrangement. This happens across both party lines, and it is not targeted at any individual. The idea is to ensure that seats are properly arranged based on seniority, party balance, and Senate rules.

“For instance, a ranking senator sits in the front row. If that senator leaves, a new member cannot just take that seat. Instead, everyone shifts accordingly. It is a process where multiple senators move to achieve the right balance.

“Everybody moves. Not just one person. The movement is done in a way that maintains the structure of the Senate. A fresher does not just sit where a senior senator was. The arrangement is reshuffled in a way that ensures order and respects seniority.

“This is a routine adjustment that happens all the time. It is not a new practice. It is not targeted at any one person. It is simply how the Senate works.

“Senator Natasha Refused to Move and Caused a Disruption”

“On that day, Senator Natasha was asked to move to a new seat. Instead of complying, she refused. That, in itself, was already an issue because every other senator understands that seating changes happen regularly.“But what followed was even more concerning. She became uncontrollable, raising her voice, shouting, “I am not scared of you!” We all saw the video. That display was completely uncalled for.

“At that moment, it was no longer about a seat—it was about discipline, order, and respect for the institution. If every senator decided to resist a simple procedural adjustment in that manner, the Senate would be ungovernable.

    “The Senate Followed Due Process”

“After that incident, the Senate Committee on Ethics invited her for a disciplinary hearing. That is the proper procedure. The committee heard from those who were present that day, and all agreed that she had acted in an unruly manner. The report that was submitted was clear—her conduct on the floor was unacceptable, and she should be suspended.

“ I personally reached out to her during this process. I sent her messages because, as a lawyer, I know that before any judgment is passed, a person must be given an opportunity to state their case.

“ I asked her: “Are you prepared to apologize so that I can speak on your behalf? Ask that you be given the opportunity to apologize.”

“She responded that she did no wrong.

“That didn’t stop me. I told her directly: You are wrong. I watched the video. I saw what happened. The report before us was not about any sexual harassment claim—it was strictly about her disorderly conduct.

Misogyny Is Not the Issue — Disorderly Conduct Is

“Some voices are trying to frame this as an attack on women in politics. That is a manipulation of the truth. Nigeria has many strong female leaders who have made their mark through discipline, strategic engagement, and respect for institutional processes. The Senate is not and has never been against women.

“However, no lawmaker — man or woman — is above the rules of the chamber. The issue here is not gender; it is the expectation that all Senators must conduct themselves with decorum and respect for the institution they serve. The rules of engagement apply equally to all members, and when a Senator repeatedly flouts those rules, there must be consequences.

“The Allegations of Sexual Harassment Were Never Before the Senate”

“ One thing that must be made clear is that the Senate did not deliberate on any sexual harassment allegations. That matter is before the courts, and the courts will decide.

“It is highly unlikely that she will win such a case, because the alleged incident supposedly happened over a year ago. She had multiple opportunities to report it to the Senate, the police, or any authority, yet she did not.

“Even after this alleged incident, she traveled multiple times with the Senate President for international events, well-documented online. She was in the same spaces as him, attended meetings with him, and was often with her husband during these trips.

“To now come forward and narrow these allegations to a particular day, a particular time—when her husband was within range, when other people were present, when the Senate President’s wife was in the family house—raises serious questions. It is highly unlikely that such discussions would take place in such a setting.

The Senate Must Uphold Discipline and Order

“The Senate is not a chaotic town hall where emotions dictate decisions. There are clear procedures for addressing grievances, presenting petitions, and debating national issues. Senator Natasha was not sanctioned for submitting a petition—she was sanctioned for her behavior on the Senate floor.

“If we allow sentiments to override discipline, the Senate will become ungovernable. This is not about suppressing opposition or silencing voices; it is about maintaining the dignity of the institution and ensuring that every member adheres to the same standards of conduct.

“Exploiting Feminine Sentiments for Political Gain”

“It is disingenuous to claim that this is a case of gender-based suppression when the facts point to a different reality. The real danger is allowing the rules to be bent simply because a particular lawmaker chooses to play the victim card when confronted with the consequences of their actions.

“Leadership comes with responsibility. Every Senator, regardless of gender, must conduct themselves in a manner that upholds the integrity of the Red Chamber. If we start excusing unruly behavior because of gender, then we are setting a dangerous precedent where rules become optional based on emotional appeal.

“The Role of Her Husband in This Escalation”

“I was also deeply disappointed by the reaction of her husband. I had expected him to find a way to de-escalate the matter, to prevent it from becoming a full-blown crisis.

“When he sent me his statement and reaction, I told him exactly how I felt. If my wife were in such a situation, I would do everything possible to resolve the issue privately, to manage it in a way that does not cause further division.

“It is even more surprising because her husband has been friends with the Senate President long before he married Natasha. This could have been settled without this level of unnecessary public drama.

“The Senate must not bow to emotional blackmail or social media outrage fueled by half-truths. Nigeria’s democracy thrives when its institutions are strong, disciplined, and governed by rules—not when they are manipulated to serve personal or partisan interests.

“We must ensure that the principles of accountability, order, and respect remain the guiding forces of our legislative process. This is not about silencing anyone; it is about ensuring that the Senate remains a place of reasoned debate, not theatrical disruptions.”

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s constituents on Saturday vowed to resist alleged plot to recall her from the Senate.

The statement reads in part: “We the Concerned Constituents of Kogi Central Senatorial District want the Nigerian Senate, fellow citizens of our country and the whole world to know that we are firmly standing with and fighting for justice alongside our daughter and duly elected Senator, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on her illegal suspension from the Senate.

Edo women lead protests against Senator Natasha over attack on Akpabio

A group of concerned women from Edo State has called on the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, to humble herself and apologise to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Nigerians for dragging the name of the nation in the mud.

The women gave the charge during a peaceful protest to the Edo State Government House.

Led by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial Woman Leader for Edo South, Hon. Barr. Itohan Osahon, the women were received by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Musa Ikhilor, on behalf of the governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, who was out of the state on an official assignment.

Speaking, Osahon said: “We are concerned women of Edo State and we are not comfortable with what is going on at the red chamber. Natasha is not the only woman in the Senate and the Senate is not about sexual harassment.

“She was suspended because she violated the rules of the Senate and she is manipulating the whole issue against the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

“Senator Natasha has been suspended for six months for disobeying the Senate rules, not for sexual harassment.

“We don’t want her to abuse the opportunity given to her to serve her people. Our First Lady was once a senator and was there for years, and such issue was not experienced. We have had many women in the Senate and House of Representatives and we have not had issues like this.

“Traveling all around the world, disgracing the country, making us the laughing stock and making a whole lot of noise about the issue.

“She should just apologise to the Senate. Edo State women are women who respect tradition and respect our men. She should not drag us in the mud.

“Our demand is that Natasha should be called to order and sentiments should not come to play and she should respect the rules of the Senate.”

Mrs. Rosemary Elawure said the women embarked on the peaceful protest in support of the Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

She said Senator Natasha lied against Senator Akpabio and that she was not the only senator whose seat was changed in the red chambers.

“We urge Senator Natasha to be respectful and obey the rules of the Senate,” she counselled.

The women asked her to apologise to the Senate, House of Representatives as well as State Houses of Assembly in the country.

Receiving the women, Barr. Ikhilor commended them for a peaceful protest and for expressing themselves freely, noting that women are very big stakeholders in Edo State.

He noted that the National Assembly is for all Nigerians and thanked the women for adding their voices to the issues concerning Senator Natasha and the President of the Senate.

“You are here to make a very strong point regarding what is going on as it is now disturbing. It is wrong for facts to be distorted and manipulated. Nigerians are beginning to become conscious.

“Nigerians are aware of what happened in the Senate. The issue is all about the rules and regulations, and anyone who disobeys them should face the consequences.

“Women are fighting for bigger issues facing them and Senator Natasha can’t serve as the stumbling block stopping women from progressing.

“Senator Akpabio has made a distinguished career in public service and we have confidence in him and his ability to manage the red chamber.

“The Senate is not a place for content creation and distractions but for serious minded people.

“Information should not be manipulated or distorted as Nigerians know what is happening in the Senate and can’t be deceived again.

“The governor is a senator and knows what happened in the chamber.

“He has confidence in the Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

“He will carry this message to different levels as we all have to protect our institutions.”
