  • Aisha Buhari, NDE empower 1,250 women in FCT

    Wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha, has presented empowerment items to 1,250 women in the Federal Capital territory (FCT) to enable them to start their businesses. They also got N10,000 each.

    Mrs Buhari made the presentation at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

    The event was organised by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), in collaboration with the Future Assured, an initiative of Mrs Buhari and the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA).

    Mrs Buhari said the gesture was aimed at complementing the government’s efforts in reducing poverty among women and youths. She advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the resources by engaging in profitable businesses. The beneficiaries received liquid soap as well as perfume-making tools for the smooth take-off of their small scale businesses.

    A beneficiary, Miss Marry Barnabas, praised the organisers for the gesture. Specifically, Barnabas thanked Mrs Buhari for giving her an opportunity to develop herself. She expressed optimism that the empowerment would enable her impact others’ lives.

    The beneficiaries were trained in various skills, including tailoring, cosmetology and culinary classes.

  • NDE begins EBTS training

    THE National Directorate of Employment (NDE) Lagos State has commenced another round of skill acquisition training for unemployed youths in Environmental Beautification Scheme (EBTS) under its Special Public Works (SPW) Programme.

    Speaking at the flagged off ceremony, the Director General of NDE, Dr Nasir Mohammed Argungun, who was represented by the Directorate Lagos State Coordinator, Adebowale Ologbenla, said over 50 registered youths will undergo the three- month intensive training.

    He explained the training will be on soft and hard landscaping, interlocking, tilling, POP design and horticulture.

    Ologbenla appealed to the trainees to make the best use of the training opportunity by the Federal Government through NDE at no cost to develop themselves and become financially empowered.

    Mrs. Funmilayo Kila, who represented the Director Special Public Works (SPW) Department NDE Head Office Abuja, said inspectorate officers from NDE will visit training centers regularly to check on trainees.

     

  • NDE: 6,450 job opportunities for Ondo youths

    The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has revealed its commitment to create job opportunities in a bid to solve problems of unemployment among youths in Ondo State. Some of the jobs to be created include cosmetology training, basic open apprenticeship scheme (BNOAS) environmental beautification scheme (EBS), sustainable agricultural development scheme (SADS) and basic refresher course for CBN agric business and micro-enterprise enhancement scheme.

    According to the NDE Director-General, Dr Nasiru Ladan Argungu, 6, 450 youths will benefit from the scheme with 300 for BNOAS, 700 for cosmetology training, 50 for ANOAS, 50 for EBS and 50 for SADS.

    He added that 5,000 persons will benefit from basic refresher course in CBN agric business enterprise enhancement scheme.

    Argungu spoke in Akure, the state capital through his state coordinator, Mr R.O Ilori during the orientation and launch of this year’s Basic National Open Apprenticeship Training Scheme (B-NOAS).

    The D-G stated that the emerging young artisans would be the next generation of cosmetology product producers, corporate farmers, hairdressers, computer operators and tillers among others.

    He added that before long, they would, through multiplier effect, create several thousand other jobs and impacting on the real sector of the economy.

    The Ondo State coordinator, Ilori recounted some of the achievements of the NDE in the state since inception in 1987.

    He enjoined the trainees to be committed during the training exercise.

    According to him, 300 trainees would undergo a three-month intensive training in the three NDE/MDG skills centres in Akure, Ilu-titun and Irun-Ogbagi in Ondo Central, South and North senatorial districts in various skills.

    One of the trainees, Miss Olamide Omotayo hailed the Federal Government through the NDE for the gesture.

  • NDE, group graduate 93

    National Directorate of Employment in Lagos State in partnership with First Massive Achievers Limited (MAF) has graduated 93 in catering, hairdressing, solar energy, soap making and agric skill acquisition training.

    The trainees went through a three-month intensive programme facilitated by MAF, a non-governmental organisation.

    Lagos NDE Coordinator, Ologbenla Adebowale, who represented the Director General of the agency, Dr. Nasir Arugungun, challenged the graduates to use the opportunity given them as a platform to develop their potentials and national economy.

    Ologbenla stated the programme was in line with the federal government policy on skill acquisition and self- employment to curb the menace of unemployment amongst youth.

    He thanked the management and staff of MAF for the successful collaboration with NDE to combat unemployment in Lagos state.

     

  • NDE, CBN to empower youths

    The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) is to collaborate with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to raise about N17.7 billion for its ‘50 under 35 Project’ aimed at empowering young businessmen and women in all senatorial zones of the country.

    The NDE is also planning to partner the National Youths Council of Nigeria (NYCN) to train about 3, 700 youths in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

    Its Director-General Dr. Nasir Ladan Mohammed, who made this known when the president of NYCN, Comrade Bello Bala Shagari, led other leaders of the group on a visit, said 50 youths who are under 35 and have businesses are the project’s prime target.

    Ladan said each of the youth would access up to N3 million from the money when it becomes available to boost their businesses and reposition them to provide employment to others.

    He said the NDE was established mainly to help train Nigerians in different areas and be employers rather than waiting for government to provide jobs.

    He said: “We are ready to partner any group as far as unemployment is concerned in this country. As such we are going to train about 100 youths, each from the 36 states and the FCT, making it about 3, 700. So, I urge you to send their names to us.

    “We are going to train for you and we are also going to settle them for you. This is because we will make sure unemployment is reduced in the country.”

    Speaking on the forthcoming general elections, Ladan urged the youth to mobilise their members to take advantage of the ongoing voters’ registration so as not to be disfranchised.

    He advised them against being used by politicians as thugs to disrupt the process of electioneering in the country.

  • IVTEC: Kwara signs MoU with NDE, World Bank

    The Kwara State International Vocational, Technical and Entrepreneurship College (IVTEC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and the World Bank to train 250 students for a first-level skills.

    The MoU, according to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, who signed on behalf of the state, provides for the payment of monthly stipends to the trainees for the period of the training.

    He added that the three months’ training would be followed by a six months’ industrial apprenticeship to further expose the trainees to their chosen jobs.

    Ahmed explained that the college was established to provide the best technical, vocational and entrepreneurship training to youths to make them gainfully employed and contribute their quotas to the society.

    The governor added that IVTEC is a benchmark for global standards in vocational education through partnership with globally recognised certification bodies like City and Guilds of London, among others.

    Director-General of NDE Dr Nasiru Mohammed Ladan said the partnership is a right step in the right direction. According to him, it would open a new vista in the implementation of the skills for job of components of YESSO.

    Ladan, who was represented by Mrs. Olaomi Roseline, congratulated the government for pioneering output-based state-led skills among the eight states of Bauchi, Cross River, Ekiti, Logic, Kwara, Niger, Osun and Oyo.

    He added that 316 youths were trained in the last two years.

  • NDE empowers 100 women in Kaduna

    The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) on Wednesday, commenced a training program for 100 women on cosmetology in Kaduna.

    Acting state Coordinator of the Directorate Sani Maiwada made this known during the flag-off ceremony of the training.

    He said that the training was the second and would last for two weeks, adding that an additional 43 men would be trained on other skills.

    “We are training 100 women on cosmetology and 43 men on other skills like carpentry, welding and others.

    “The cosmetology training would last for two weeks while other training programs would last for three months “, he said.

    Maiwada who urged the participants to maximize the opportunity, stated that skill acquisition was the solution to unemployment.

    “You are lucky to be among the beneficiaries of this training, I therefore urge you not to look down on cosmetology business.

    “Open your mind and learn the skill, practice with the little you have after this training and by God’s grace, success will be yours”.

    He added that apart from the certificate that would be issued to participants, materials needed for the business would be given to them to enable them practice what they have learnt.

    Meanwhile, Malama Maryam Ibrahim, the trainer, said that she would do her best to teach the women different skills on cosmetology.

    ” I will teach them how to make liquid soap, shampoo, Air freshener and others, we shall finish all trainings successfully”, she said.

    The participants expressed enthusiasm over the training, saying they were prepared to learn and put into practice what they learn.

    Halima Sani who spoke on behalf of the participants said: “We thank God for this program and we will do our best to make sure we excel in the skill”, she said.

  • NDE Lagos to resettle 150 trainees

    The Director General of National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Dr Nasir Argungun, has directed resettlement of 150 trainees under the Basic-National Open Apprenticeship Scheme (B-NOAS).

    The trainees graduated from the cosmetology class of the scheme.

    The NDE Lagos State Coordinator, Adebowale Ologbenla, disclosed this in a statement yesterday.

    He said the directive was in response to growing unemployment in the country, stating the 150 beneficiaries would cut across the three senatorial districts.

    Ologbenla further stated the resettlement kit for the beneficiaries would be in the form of loan package.

    According to him, resettlement for remaining beneficiaries in trades such as barbing, GSM repair, bead stringing, soap making, insecticides/perfume jelly and confectionaries would be attended to later.

    NDE trains 2,500 IDPs on income generation

    The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Adamawa has commenced the training of 2,500 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) on income generation in the state.

    Speaking at the launching in Malkohi Camp near Yola, the Acting State Coordinator of  the directorate, Mr Kenneth Maigida, said the beneficiaries comprised of IDPs in camps and those settling in host communities in the state.

    “Our concept, framework and approach in training the IDPs in income generating activities is a direct response to their peculiar situation, the relevance and the potential effectiveness of the skills they will acquire.

    “These skills sets were carefully selected based on the needs assessment and baseline survey and analysis conducted by the directorate,” Maigida said.

    He lauded the support and cooperation the directorate was getting from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) as well as the military, Red Cross and other international organisations in facilitating the take-off of the programme.

    Maigida also announced another ongoing training of 2,000 unemployed youths across the 21 local government areas of the state, adding that some of the youths had graduated while some would graduate in April.

    “Arrangements have been concluded to provide them with soft loans that will enable them to start practicing the skills they learnt,” he said.

    Speaker, Adamawa House of Assembly, Alhaji Kabiru Mijinyawa, commended the directorate for supporting the IDPs, adding that the house was committed to making necessary legislation that would ensure sustained support for IDPs.

    Mijinyawa advised the IDPs to take full advantage of the training to enable them set up their businesses as they struggled to pick up their lives once again.

    Edo partners CWO on skill acquisition programme

    Edo Government has said that it will partner Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) programmes to promote skill acquisition among women in the state.

    The Deputy Governor, Mr Philip Shaibu, said this when leaders of the organisation paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Benin.

    Shaibu said that the partnership would reduce hardship and create job opportunities in the state.

    He commended the leadership of the organisation for its initiative in creating skill acquisition programmes for less privileged women among them.

    He said that the programme was in line with Gov. Godwin Obaseki’s initiative onn job creation.

    The deputy governor, however, advised the organisation to provide the names of the beneficiaries to the state government, to help support the programme.

    He also urged the organisation to set up a monitoring team to ensure that the beneficiaries would not lavish the set up funds.

    Earlier, the group leader, Dr Christiana Omorede, who led the group, said the organisation had collaborated with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) to enhance the training of women in the state.

    Omorede said that NDE would be training about 80 members of the CWO on cosmetology.

    She said that the group was committed to poverty reduction through the skill acquisition programme as it would add value to the lives of the less privileged in the state.
