  • Neymar to Miss Champions League clash against United

Manchester United have been handed a huge boost with the news that Neymar will miss both of their Champions League clashes with Paris Saint-Germain.

The forward picked up a foot injury in the French Cup match with Strasbourg on January 23 and had scans and further assessment at PSG’s Ooredoo Training Center.

A team of medical experts have concluded that Neymar has damaged the fifth metatarsal in his right foot.  As a result, he will be absent for the next 10 weeks.

That means he will not be available when PSG visit united on February 12 or for the return last-16 Champions League clash at the Parc des Prince on March 6.

Neymar will not require surgery on the injury, but his absence will be a huge blow for the French giants.

A PSG statement said: ‘Paris Saint-Germain wishes to show its player all his affection, his strongest support and his greatest encouragement to overcome this injury, with the courage and determination he has always shown.’

They added: ‘The Brazilian international was in total agreement with the treatment plan.’

‘It’s going to be very difficult, that is clear,’ manager Thomas Tuchel said shortly after the injury. ‘It’s too early to talk about a return date.

‘We have to wait for the first week, which is very important, and its reaction to treatment. Only after that can we be more precise, but it’s going to be very difficult [for the united match].’

  • Neymar in secret talks with Barca over Nou camp return

Barcelona are taking steps towards luring Neymar back to the Nou Camp in a shock return from PSG.

The Brazilian left the Catalan club to join the Parisians back in 2017 for the staggering world-record fee of £198million.

But his father met with Barcelona representative Andre Cury in Brazil over the winter break to discuss a potential move, according to Catalunya Radio.

This is not the first time these preliminary discussions have taken place and Neymar’s father also sat down with Cury in London last November.

Cury is a respected intermediary and was integral to Neymar’s move from Santos to Barcelona back in 2013.

Catalunya Radio also report that Israeli agent Pini Zahavi was present for the meetings.

Zahavi assisted in arranging the world-record move from Barcelona and was in the room with Alvaro Costa, whose father Pepe is Barcelona’s liaison officer.

Neymar has formed part of the lethal attacking triumvirate with Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe for PSG but his stay in the French capital has often been called into question.

He is still well liked by Lionel Messi and those within the Barcelona dressing room and would be welcomed back by Ernesto Valverde, who has led the club to the summit of La Liga and into the Champions League knockout stages.

No doubt PSG would be desperate to hold onto Neymar but the Ligue 1 leaders are currently being investigated by UEFA over their transfer dealings in relation to Financial Fair Play.

It has been suggested that they could sell Neymar or Mbappe to avoid any sanctions but those claims have been roundly denied by the club.

  • Suarez, Messi rekindling magic as favoured victims Celta await

It took Barcelona forwards Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez time to adjust to the loss of their third musketeer Neymar.

But they have since forged on as a fearsome double act more prolific than the combined efforts of most other teams in La Liga.

With Messi the top-scorer in Spain’s top flight with 14 goals and Suarez joint-second on 11, only Sevilla, Levante and next opponents Celta Vigo have managed to score more than the deadly South American duo.

Messi has come into his own in his last two outings, putting on an exhibition of free kick taking against Espanyol and ripping Levante apart in last week’s 5-0 thrashing, with a hat-trick and two assists.

Suarez, who endured a long goal drought last season since after the departure of Neymar, has rediscovered the sharpness which led to him scoring a remarkable 40 league goals in the 2015/16 campaign.

He broke the deadlock against Levante by volleying in a Messi cross and also struck against Espanyol, two of seven goals he has scored in his last six league outings, including a hat-trick against Real Madrid.

“Luis and Leo are the best strike partnership in the world right now,” said Barca’s Gerard Pique last week.

“Luis has goals in his veins and we’ve already said everything about Leo. We have a lot of firepower up front,” said Pique.

The strikers’ combined 25 goals, more than half of Barca’s haul this season, have helped lift the Catalans three points clear of Sevilla and Atletico Madrid at the top of the standings and five ahead of Real Madrid.

Ernesto Valverde’s side will expect to preserve that gap after Saturday’s game with Celta, typically tough opponents at their Balaidos stadium but, who usually bring the best out of Barca, and particularly Messi and Suarez, at the Nou Camp.

It was against Celta when Messi audaciously passed to Suarez to score from a penalty in a 6-1 thumping in 2016 in which the Uruguayan scored a hat-trick, while Messi struck twice in 5-0 thrashings of the Galicians in the league and Copa del Rey in the last two years.

Even when Celta managed to hold Barca to a 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp last December, Messi and Suarez both scored.

Celta sacked manager Antonio Mohamed earlier this season and have shown signs of improvement under Miguel Cardoso, rising to ninth in the standings.

Second-placed Sevilla visit Leganes on Sunday, while Atletico Madrid, rocked by reports that Bayern Munich have paid the release clause of their World Cup winning defender Lucas Hernandez, host Espanyol on Saturday.

Real Madrid could lose ground as they are playing Al Ain in the final of FIFA’s Club World Cup on Saturday.

  • Barcelona break billion dollar revenue barrier

FC Barcelona announced it has become the first sports club to post annual revenues exceeding $1 billion.

La Liga champions Barcelona presented their annual accounts on Tuesday, showing earnings of $1.05 billion for the 2017/18 fiscal year, breaking its own income record for the fifth successive year and posting a profit for the eighth consecutive year.

Barca said the rise in revenue was driven by increased income from television rights from the Champions League and the August 2017 sale of Brazilian forward Neymar to Paris St Germain for a record 222 million euros ($257 million) transfer fee.

The club also announced a record budget of $1.105 billion for this season, which needs to be approved at a general assembly on Oct. 20.

The club added that its debt amounted to $181.3 million as of June 30.

“The extraordinary income from payment of Neymar Jr’s buyout clause has been compensated in next year’s budget through improved commercial and sponsorship revenue, media rights, exploitation of the stadium and transfer of players,” the club said in a statement.

“This is the first time that revenue has surpassed $1bn, a huge step up from 2016/17.”

  • Neymar dreams Camp Nou return one year after departure

Barely a year after moving to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona in a whooping €222 million deal, Brazil international Neymar is reportedly eager to head back t the Nou Camp.

One of the reasons that propped up during the said transfer in August 2017, was Neymar desire to according to some analyst walk away from the shadows of Lionel Messi who is said having a domineering figure in the club.

The dream return however appear to be head for the rocks as the Catalan giants are said to be reluctant to bring their former man back to the Nou Camp.

Neymar, 26, scored 105 goals in 186 appearances for Barcelona between 2013 and 2017, before completing a world-record move to PSG in last summer’s transfer window.

The Brazilian has netted 32 times in 35 appearances for PSG since his arrival, but suggestions that the attacker is unsettled in France have gathered pace in recent months.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Neymar almost instantly regretted his move to Paris, and is not happy with the emergence of Kylian Mbappe, who has taken some of the limelight away from the Brazilian.

The report claims that the attacker also feels targeted by opposition defences in Ligue 1, and is determined to secure a return to Camp Nou.

However, it is understood that Barcelona are not currently interested in re-signing the forward, with Real Madrid his most likely destination if PSG agree to sell.

Ousmane Dembele – signed to replace Neymar – has impressed for Barcelona in the early stages of the 2018-19 campaign.

  • Mbappe: Neymar is still the superstar @ PSG

Kylian Mbappe has dismissed suggestions that he has overtaken Neymar as Paris Saint-Germain’s star man, after the teenager’s double secured a 3-1 win at Guingamp.

2018 FIFA World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe scored twice as champions Paris St Germain (PSG) completed a second half comeback to secure the win over on Saturday.

“Neymar is a superstar, much more of star than me,” he said in his post-match interview on the pitch.

“I am not at that level yet. He has worked many years at Barca to prove that and we have many players in this squad who are superstars,” he added

Belgium international Thomas Meunier returned to a youthful PSG side while Mbappe was benched as the visitors’ quest for two wins in as many games got off to a poor start.

Guingamp held their own in front of a vociferous home crowd in the first half of the Ligue 1 fixture.

They forced an impressive save from goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon to deny Marcus Thuram in the 14th minute.

Guingamp winger Marcus Coco capitalised on PSG right back Colin Dagba’s error and played in striker Nolan Roux, who slotted past Buffon to give the hosts a shock lead.

Guingamp continued to pile on the pressure as PSG struggled with defensive errors and lacked attacking fluidity.

France international Mbappe replaced Timothy Weah at the start of the second half as PSG took control of the match.

Neymar won a penalty kick in the 53rd minute and converted it to equalise.

A resurgent PSG then dominated proceedings and created numerous chances before Mbappe scored his opening goal of the season in the 82nd minute.

He soon doubled his tally to seal the win.

Striker Radamel Falcao missed a penalty kick as a wasteful AS Monaco were held to a goalless draw with LOSC Lille in their first home league match of the season.

Monaco, the only team to win the league title other than PSG in the last five seasons, failed to convert their chances in the opening half.

Lille, meanwhile, rarely troubled Diego Benaglio’s goal.

Skipper Falcao, who notched a goal and an assist in Monaco’s opening victory at Nantes, missed the hosts’ best chance in the 67th minute, when he won a penalty kick.

But he failed to convert it as Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan pulled off a good save.

Monaco continued to push for a breakthrough but Lille held on to secure a point.

PSG top the standings, followed by Dijon and Stade Reims, who climbed to third after Friday’s 1-0 win over Olympique Lyonnais.

Monaco and Lille are fourth and fifth while a second consecutive defeat left Guingamp in

  • Pitch Antics: Neymar ready to turn a new leaf

Close to 16 days after the world cup Russia, Brazil international and PSG forward Neymar has admitted that he over exaggerated fouls against him pledging however to repent and turn a new leaf.

The 26 year old who had a dramatic recovery from injury ahead of the World cup was tipped to be among the players that will lead his side to the finals in Russia, but the former Barcelona ace and his samba brothers bowed out in the quarterfinals after losing 2-1 to Belgium at tha Kazan Arena.

Neymar who scored twice at the showpiece tournament after recovering from a broken foot sustained in February was a regular target of criticism for his theatrics and behaviour on the pitch, and was subsequently left outof the shortlist of FIFA Best awards

Neymar used as sponsor’s advertisement with personal care products manufacturer Gillette took the criticisms in good fate and is determined to make amends

“You may think I overreact, and sometimes I do. But the truth is I suffer on the pitch. You have no idea what I go through outside of it.

“When I leave without talking to the press, it’s not because I only like winning, it is because I still haven’t learned to disappoint you.

“When I look impolite, it is not because I am a spoiled kid. It is because I have not learned how to deal with my frustrations.

“There’s still a boy inside of me. Sometimes it dazzles the world. Other times, it pisses everyone off. And my fight is to keep this boy alive.

“You may think I’ve fallen too much, but the reality is I fell apart. And that hurts more than anyone stepping on your operated ankle.

“I took time to accept your criticism. I took time to look at myself in the mirror and become a new man. But now I’m here, with my heart wide open.

“I fell but only those who fall can get up. You can keep throwing rocks at me or you can throw your rocks away and help me get up because when I do get up, the whole country gets up with me.”

  • Russia 2018: Brazil beat Mexico to reach quarter-finals

Neymar barged his way into the 2018 FIFA World Cup limelight with a goal, an assist and another helping of histrionics as Brazil roared into the quarter-finals.

The five-times champions secured a 2-0 victory over Mexico on Monday to help inflict a seventh straight second round exit on the central Americans.

The PSG forward was both architect and executioner for Brazil, sliding home in the second half and then teeing up Roberto Firmino late on.

But he also brought some drama into the game as he writhed on the floor, seemingly in agony, after Mexico’s Miguel Layun had made slight contact with his ankle.

However, that should not overshadow his generally positive display, as the former champions beat an otherwise stubborn Mexico.

The Mexicans’ World Cup began with such promise with a victory over champions Germany, but ended in familiar fashion in the first knockout round.

It was the seventh World Cup running that Brazil have reached the last eight, where they will now face Belgium or Japan.

On their part, Mexico have not made it to that stage since they hosted the tournament in 1986.

Mexico, who enjoyed an enviable recent record against Brazil having won seven of their previous 15 matches against them, were a threat on the counter in the first half.

But they then faded, without ever really being put to the sword.

For all their quasi-mythological attacking traditions, this Brazil side have a pragmatism that keeps them in check.

This is done in such a way that you cannot see them ever truly cutting loose at this tournament.

Having kept clean sheets in seven of their previous eight games, they were never going to commit men forward.

That would have allowed Mexico to pick them off on the counter in the same way that Germany did in the group stage.

That is not to say that they were not under the cosh in the early stages as Mexico sought to isolate the Brazilian fullbacks Fagner and Filipe Luis.

They both looked vulnerable as Carlos Vela and Hirving Lozano bore down on them.

Lozano had an effort blocked after two minutes as did Hector Herrera, but as the first half wore on Brazil got on top in the stifling Samara heat.

A glaring spotlight had been on Neymar after his opening three performances saw him miss a litany of chances, frequently squandering possession and spending far too long on the turf.

Yet he answered a number of questions with his performance and a decisive finish early in the second half from a move he had started himself.

Minutes after the restart Brazil took the lead in exquisite fashion with Neymar starting and ending the move.

He darted across the edge of the area before a perfect backheel released Willian, whose low cross fizzed into the danger area where Neymar slid in to turn the ball home.

It was a choking blow for Mexico, who had been the better side for the opening half an hour, pegging Brazil back and creating several half chances.

Brazil had to wait until the 88th minute to put the match to bed when Neymar was the architect again, crossing for Firmino to tap the ball home.

They will have to do without defensive midfielder Casemiro in the quarter-finals, however, after he was booked for the second time.
