NFF urged to monitor football academies in the country

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been charged to monitor the career of the  national teams players more closely, because of the activities of most football academies in the country.

Welfare officer of Future Stars Academy, Olubunmi Balogun made this call, while urging the federation to look into the ownership dispute of National Under-20 goalkeeper, Sunday Dele Alampasu.

In a chat with Sports journalists, Balogun accused the Abuja Football College of playing games over the career of the young goalkeeper, playing hide and seek with the leadership of Future Stars academy and NFF, when the representative of Abuja Football College, Kumbi Titiloye refused to attend a meeting called by the NFF 1st Vice President, Seyi Akinwunmi to resolve the matter between the parties involved.

He disclosed that a meeting was scheduled between the parties involved for Abuja,  of which tAkinwunmi  invited  Olusola Orelaja who brokered Dele Alampasu’s deal in Portugal from his London base to attend the meeting.

On arriving Lagos on  March 24, a call was put through to Titiloye, and agreement was made to meet in Abuja on March 26 but Kumbi later called to cancel the meeting because of his team friendly match against the National Under-23 team.

And a new date was agreed for April 4  at 2pm, With all parties involved duly informed of the new date and venue, to all which included President of Remo Stars Football Club,  Kunle Soname, Akinwunmi, Olusola Orelaja, Player representative and I representing Future Stars.

But to everybody’s surprise Titiloye who was earlier communicating with  Orelaja on arriving in Lagos at the MM2 airport, later switched off his phone, while everybody at the meeting in Victoria Island were waiting, but surprising, he didn’t attend the meeting.

He didn’t even deem it fit to call any of the parties involved to apologise or give reason for his not coming to the meeting. The player is above 18-years-old and has the right to decide what he wants as he was denied his signature right with Estoril Portugal owing to the fact that Football College was attached on the U-20  World Cup list. Hence the reason “We are calling on the Leadership of NFF to intervene so that the career of the boy won’t be wasted because of selfish reasons”, He nsaid.

On Monday, the NFF issued a directive to the Football Associations of all 36 States and the FCT to hold their Federation Cup finale this weekend, in order not to disrupt the well-laid-out calendar for this year’s programme.

“We have had to take the decision to suspend the finale of the Federation Cup competition in Anambra State as a result of the leadership crisis in that state.

  • NFF shops for psychologist for Falcons

NFF shops for psychologist for Falcons

After playing a 1-1 draw with the women national team of Mali in an All Africa Games (AAG) qualifier last Saturday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is considering hiring a psychologist for the Super Falcons.

SportingLife gathered that those clamouring for one believe it would enhance the performance of the players at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup beginning in June after a second round target has been given to the team.

“There is a need for a psychologist to help the players from the foregoing. We have heard of stories of athletes that were able to reach the peak of their respective careers through the help of a psychologist which is what we want for the girls,” an NFF source said.

But they are silent on the sexual status of the psychologist. “We think a female is suitable because it is a female team, but, other board members are of the view that a male psychologist can also do the job,” said the source.

Our source, however, declined to mention the challenges affecting the team that they have spotted.

“I would not want to disclose them, it will be left for the psychologist to handle. These are the issues we have identified from our personal investigation, but certainly when the psychologist comes, more would be discovered,” said the source.

In 2011 prior to the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the NFF hired a German technical assistant for the Falcons. Unfortunately the team did not go beyond the preliminary stage as it could only win a match after losing two.

The team is expected to resume for training on Tuesday after a four-day break due to the Nigerian presidential election holding today.
