She recently expressed support for President Donald Trump, calling herself his “number one fan” at an event promoting Trump’s government-backed investment accounts for children.

The Trump Gold Card program has faced criticism for favouring wealthy immigrants, with some arguing it undermines the traditional immigration process.

Why I spoke out for Nigerian Christians – Nicki Minaj

American rapper Nicki Minaj has explained why she publicly addressed the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria, citing personal ties to the country and reports of violence against worshippers.

Minaj, who has a Nigerian pastor and a large fan base in the country, described the reports of alleged kidnappings and killings of Christians during church activities as “outrageous” and emphasised that silence only emboldens oppression.

Minaj spoke on the issue during a surprise appearance at AmericaFest, stating, “Nigeria is a place I’ve always loved. Someone very dear to me, my pastor, is Nigerian, and I have lots of Nigerian barbs.

“So hearing that people are being kidnapped while they’re in church, people are being killed, brutalised, all because of their religion that should spark outrage.

“We’re not backing down anymore. We are not going to be silenced by the bullies anymore. We will speak up for Christians wherever they are in this world.

“We take for granted that there, right now in this world, are people who cannot worship God as they please, where they please.

“Every time we pray in fellowship, we have to remember the people that are right now in this world hiding to pray in fellowship, and we have to pray for them,” she said.

Minaj’s remarks come after she reacted to a social media post by US President Donald Trump, who claimed that “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria”.

She expressed gratitude for the freedom to worship in the US and condemned religious persecution.

She wrote, “Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude. We live in a country where we can freely worship God. No group should ever be persecuted for practising their religion.

“Christians have been persecuted right here in our country in different ways. So when we talk about Nigeria and other countries, know that prior administrations saw nothing wrong with that, and that’s what was wrong with them,” she concluded.

The Nigerian government has consistently rejected claims of a coordinated or systematic genocide against Christians, describing such narratives as false and misleading.

Authorities attributed the security challenges to terrorism, banditry, and communal conflicts.

Nicki Minaj urges fans to support Nigerian artists amid criticisms

Renowned US rapper Nicki Minaj has called on fans to be more understanding and supportive of Nigerian artistes who have come under fire for their statements and actions in recent weeks.

The criticism faced by Nigerian artistes includes accusations of arrogance and insensitivity, with some being slammed for their responses to the country’s security challenges and others for their personal remarks.

Burna Boy, for instance, sparked outrage after jokingly stating he desires “only rich fans,” while Yemi Alade faced backlash for protesting against potential American intervention in Nigeria’s insecurity issues.

Additionally, several celebrities were chastised for posting content unrelated to the tragic events in the country, including a deadly terrorist attack on a church in Kwara state and the kidnapping of school girls in Kebbi state.

Reacting to these developments, Minaj took to her social media platform to plead for compassion and wisdom in criticising Nigerian artistes.

On her X handle, she wrote, “My darlings, let’s utilize wisdom & compassion as it relates to our Nigerian artists. There are very logical reasons for most things when we look not to judge, but to comprehend.

“That goes for every country & their artists. Let’s lift them & continue to use wisdom.”

Minaj’s appeal comes after she recently garnered commendations from Nigerians for speaking out against the alleged jihadist violence targeting Christians in the country at a United Nations event in New York, where she emphasised the need for freedom of worship and urgent action against terrorism.

Nicki Minaj urges global action to protect Christians at UN Panel

American Rapper Nicki Minaj addressed the United Nations on Tuesday, on behalf of the international community to confront what she called the targeted killing and displacement of Christians in Nigeria.

The event, organised by the U.S. Mission to the United Nations and titled “Combatting Religious Violence and the Killing of Christians in Nigeria,” featured Minaj alongside Ambassador Mike Waltz, Nigerian faith leaders, and survivors of attacks.

In a five-minute address streamed live on the mission’s YouTube channel, the artist spoke without notes and at times fought back tears.

She said: “Back in way too many places… in Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes and killed.

“Churches have been burned, families have been torn apart, and entire communities live in fear constantly simply because of how they pray.”

She insisted the crisis extends far beyond Nigeria’s borders and stressed that defending one religious group does not mean opposing another.

“Sadly, this problem is not only a growing problem in Nigeria but also in so many other countries across the world — and it demands urgent action,” she said.

The rapper emphasised that calling for the protection of Christians should not be misinterpreted as taking sides, saying, “Protecting Christians in Nigeria is not about taking sides or dividing people. It is about uniting humanity.

“Nigeria is a beautiful nation with deep faith traditions — and lots of beautiful Barbz that I can’t wait to see.”

Speaking about reported attacks on places of worship, she noted, “When one’s church, mosque, or place of worship is destroyed, everyone’s heart should break just a little bit. And the foundation of the United Nations, with its core mandate to ensure peace and security, should shake.”

Minaj thanked President Donald Trump for elevating the issue and praised grassroots interfaith efforts.

“I am inspired by their work to build interfaith ties, to see the humanity across the lines which might divide us, and to fight for security and liberty for all those who pray.

“I hope it will encourage deepened solidarity for us to urgently work together to ensure every person can enjoy the right to believe, to worship, and to live in peace… Barbz”, she said.

She ended on a lighter note, telling her Nigerian fans, known as “Barbz” that the country remains “beautiful” and that she looks forward to performing there.

Ambassador Waltz, who introduced Minaj, described the violence as “genocide wearing the mask of chaos” and highlighted the Trump administration’s decision to redesignate Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) for severe violations of religious freedom.

Nigeria’s government swiftly rejected the portrayal.

Nigeria faults exclusion from Nicki Minaj’s UN event

Nigeria on Tuesday expressed concerns over the decision of the U.S. to exclude it from participating in the U.S. rapper Nicki Minaj event on alleged killings of Nigerians of a specific faith group.

The Chargé d’Affaires, Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the UN, Mr Syndoph Endoni, said the decision to exclude Nigeria from the discussion, which held at the UN headquarters in New York, amounted to “shaving our head in our absence”.

The Minaj event, which held at the UN headquarters in New York in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of the U.S. to the UN, was against the background of the ongoing accusation by the U.S. alleging Christian persecution in Nigeria.

U.S. President Donald Trump had recently designated Nigeria as “a Country of Particular Concern” over alleged Christian genocide in the country.

The Nigerian envoy, however, refuted the ongoing accusations by the U.S. authorities alleging Christian genocide in Nigeria, which the Nigerian authorities have severally rejected.

“It is important to ensure the country concerned in the ongoing allegations of genocide against Christians, is present, aware and has a voice in the matter.

“This is because, you should not make important decisions or take action on something that involves a country without their presence or consent.”

Endoni said by refusing Nigeria participation, the U.S. authorities had denying Nigeria the right and opportunity to tell its own side of the story.

The Nigerian envoy expressed disappointment that a few countries were allowed participation at the event, querying the rationale for shutting Nigeria out.

He said, “We asked the U.S. authorities if it was okay to continue to shave someone’s hair in his absence.

“We further highlighted that the Nigerian government is not standing idly by to watch the atrocities perpetrated by the criminals”.

In addition, the Nigerian envoy stressed that both countries can jointly solve the insecurity problems in Nigeria only if they work together.

Endoni urged the U.S. to ensure inclusive engagements to avoid undue escalation over claims of persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the U.S. Senior Advisor for African Affairs, Amb. Patricia Mahoney had visited the Nigeria House in New York on Monday to intimate Syndoph about Minaj event.

At the meeting, the U.S. representative informed Nigeria that three UN Member Countries were invited with other personalities, including a pastor from Nigeria.

However, she informed that no representative of the Nigerian government, including from the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the UN, was invited.

According to him, the U.S. envoy informed that the event was a private event.

The Nigerian envoy expressed concerns over the U.S.’ actions of naming and shaming, saying it is capable of causing apprehensions in the country.

NAN reports that the main reason Nigeria was denied participation was to honour the participants specific request not to allow Nigerian officials for fears of retribution for them and their families.

However, the envoy said the Nigerian authorities would continue to engage their U.S. counterparts over the killings by extremists and to collaborate to protect lives and property in Nigeria.

American rapper Nicki Minaj is set to speak at a United Nations event in New York on Tuesday, addressing jihadist violence against Christians in Nigeria.

Time senior political correspondent Eric Cortellessa disclosed this via X.

Minaj will be joined by US Ambassador to the UN, Michael Waltz, and Alex Bruesewitz, a senior adviser to former President Donald Trump.

Ambassador Waltz praised Minaj, saying she’s “not only arguably the greatest female recording artist, but also a principled individual who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice”.

He added, “I’m grateful she’s leveraging her massive platform to spotlight the atrocities against Christians in Nigeria, and I look forward to standing with her as we discuss the steps the President and his administration are taking to end the persecution of our Christian brothers and sisters”.
