    NSCDC graduates 135 officers in weapon handling

    The Abuja Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday graduated 135 personnel who completed training in weapon handling and basic arms programs aimed at reducing crime and protecting critical assets in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

    Speaking at the passing out parade held at the Command Headquarters in Abuja, Commandant Dr. Olusola Odumosu urged the graduates to build on the progress made over the past year as they are deployed to key locations across the city.

    The Commandant also revealed that over 120 suspected vandals were arrested within the FCT over the past year for infrastructure theft and vandalism, with several convictions successfully secured.

    Odumosu who described the training of the 2024 Batch A Basic Arms Training for the personnel as historic and of global standards, urged the personnel to discharge their duties in line with rules of engagement and high sense of professionalism. 

    Odumosu commended the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike and the Commandant-General of the Corps, Dr Ahmed Audi for their support, saying those who received the training programme would be deployed to rid the FCT of the menace of “one chance ” taxi drivers, vandals and other criminals. 

    Odumosu said :”Today, we are presenting to you officers who have been retrained for weapons handling by the Training Department of the Command. I am proud to say here that this Command can boast of having seasoned instructors who can hold their own any day, any time.

    “In line with the core mandates of the NSCDC which include, but not limited to the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure and the protection of lives and property in general, it becomes imperative to train and retrain our personnel to be able to stand up to emerging security challenges bedeviling our dear country.   

    “Consequently, a total of 135 personnel were retrained and equipped with the knowledge and skills in weapon handling through months of rigorous regimentation defined by global standards.

    ” These ones are ready to be engaged.

    This is a worthy step taken to curb the challenges of vandalism and other vices hampering the peace and development of the Federal Capital Territory in particular, and the Nation as a whole. 

    “With this new set of trainees, the Command is better positioned to surpass our achievements so far in the fight against vandalism and the protection of lives and property.

    “Let me congratulate the personnel passing out today. That you are standing here today strong and gallant despite the tough exercise, is a sign that FCT can trust you, Nigeria can rely on you for protection. Remember, to whom much is given, much is expected.

    “In the discharge of your duties, always remember the rules of engagement, be professional in handling your riffles, protect yourself, protect your riffle, protect lives and property.”

    Oil theft: NSCDC operatives arrest two teenagers in Abia

    Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested two suspected oil thieves and destroyed multiple illegal refineries in Ukwa West local government of Abia state.

    The NSCDC operatives were acting under the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad to check the activities of oil thieves and economic saboteurs.

    A statement from the Public Relations Officer of the Corps in Abuja, Babawale Afolabi, said the operatives stormed a swampy forest at Umuorie/Umukala community in Ukwa West LGA of Abia State to destroy illegal refinery sites located inside the creek with over 20 local drum ovens in active operations.

    Afolabi said the Commander of the Intelligence Squad, DC Appolos Dandaura, restated the commitment of the Squad to end nefarious activities of economic saboteurs in the area.

    “This arrest is one of the numerous ongoing operations aimed at checkmating all forms of illegal oil bunkering activities and crude theft in Abia State.

    “We swiftly acted on the credible intelligence information at our disposal and while combing the entire area we stormed a swampy forest where an artisanal oil refinery site was located; you need to see the way these criminal-minded suspects were tapping and siphoning crude oil from the installed wellheads domiciled around the pipelines by the NPDC at Umuorie in the ASA/Ibuzor axis of Ukwa West LGA of the State”.

    DC Apollos explained further that while the suspects sighted our operatives, they fled but two of them were apprehended.  He gave their names as Endurance David, 16, and 13-year-old Abadiedot Micheal Anieke.

    He hinted that among the exhibits recovered from the scene were several sizes of metallic galvanized pipes, illegally connected to siphon crude oil, dug-in reservoirs, large quantities of crude oil stored in dug-in pits, different sizes of metal and plastic buckets, funnels, among other items.

    He said further investigations have commenced on the matter, while the suspects would be prosecuted on completion of investigations.

    Abuja NSCDC deploys 3500 for independent celebration

    Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has deployed a total of 3,500 personnel to provide security in the FCT for Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary celebrations.

    The Command disclosed this in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Samuel Idoko.

    Idoko said it was to ensure public safety, protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, protection of public and private properties, and ensure that there is no form of unrest in the Federal Capital during the celebrations.

    Also deployed are special squads including Armed Squad, Special Crack Squad (operation Adaka-su), Female Strike Force, Anti-Counter Terrorism Squad, Agro Rangers, and undercover personnel, Idoko added.

    According to him, officers and men of the Command were deployed to cover all the nooks and crannies of the FCT including all the Area Councils as well as the city centre.

    He said the Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, while addressing personnel at the Muster parade charged all personnel to ensure the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure as well as the safety of residents of FCT during the independence celebrations.

    “The government and residents of the FCT expect so much from the corps to have a peaceful celebration. The Command must ensure the safety of public and private properties in Federal Capital.”

    “FCT being the seat of power and the host to diplomatic headquarters of countries of the world means the Corps must be highly professional in the discharge of their duty to avoid any form of infraction.” Dr Odumosu noted.

    He enjoined the personnel to carry out their operations within the ambit of the NSCDC’s Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) handed over to them.

    NSCDC nabs three suspects for illegal diversion

    • 35 tons of fertiliser intercepted

    The Plateau State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three suspects in connection with diversion of a truck load of fertiliser procured by the office of the National Security Adviser, allegedly being diverted to an unknown destination along Barkin Ladi road, Plateau State.

    The State Commandant of NSCDC, A. B. Barunde, in a news conference, at its headquarters in Jos, said the officers from the state command intercepted the truck  while on routine patrol and apprehended three suspects with 35 tons of Granular Ammonium Sulphate on their way to deliver the products on September 21, 2024.

    According to him, the name of  the suspects arrested are Hamza Abdullahi (truck driver 1), Male, 25, from Zallaki Bassa LGA of Plateau State.

    Others include Yahaya Kasim (truck driver 2), Male, 29, from Zallaki Bassa LGA of Plateau State and Abdulsamad Ibrahim (Truck Assistant), Male, 20 from Zallaki Bassa LGA of Plateau State.

    The NSCDC commandant said exhibits recovered consist of a truck with registration number EPE478XA 35 tons of Granular Ammonium Sulphate (GAS) fertiliser.

    Investigations by the NSCDC also indicated that the Waybill for the consignment clearly indicate that the Granular Ammonium Sulphate Fertilizer is an NPK blending input, procured by the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority in the office of the National Security Adviser for the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative Programme.

    The Commandant also said the fertiliser are given to the blenders at very subsidised rates to blend and produce NPK Fertiliser at affordable rates for farmers for food production.”

    He pointed out that the products had an inscription boldly written on the bags “NOT FOR SALE BUYERS BEWARE”.

    “The waybill for these products shows that it was allocated to GUARANTEE fertiliser company, Kano State, to blend NPK, but it was diverted by the suspects before they were arrested.

    “This is a sabotage to the government food security programme and is unacceptable to the NSCDC under the able leadership of our C.G. AA Audi.”

    “Investigation is ongoing to unravel those behind this sabotage and prosecute those culpable.

    “The Corps shall continue to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to ensure that the National Food Security Programme of Government is sustained,” the NSCDC commandant said.

    Abuja NSCDC arrests five suspected vandals

    Operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command have arrested five suspected vandals at two different locations in Abuja city centre.

    This was disclosed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Samuel Idoko.

    He said: “Two of the suspects, Suleiman Ibrahim, Male, 17 years, from Kano State, and Abubakar Zakari, Male, 22 years also from Kano State were arrested around Wuse Market Bridge with iron poles by the operatives of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) Department of the Command on routine patrol

    “The duo were trailed from the Arts and Culture Complex, Area 10, Garki, Abuja where they had vandalized the iron poles and were moving it to where they would sell to already known buyers.”

    Idoko explained in a statement that the arrested vandals are currently undergoing interrogation that would lead to the arrest of the buyers of vandalised infrastructures in the city.

    He said operatives of the anti-vandal unit of the Command acting on a tip-off, also arrested three suspected vandals around Durumi 2, Pantaker market, Abuja.

    Idoko said the suspects, Aliyu Danladi, Male, 37 years from Kano State, Jamilu Abdulrahaman, Male, 25 years from Zamfara State, and Usman Ibrahim, Male, 38 years from Sokoto State, were arrested at about midnight while attempting to move suspected stolen and vandalised items to the place where they would be sold.

    He said investigations revealed that the suspects are part of a syndicate and are always in possession of items suspected to have been vandalised or stolen.

    He listed items recovered from them as three Electronic billboards, two Solar batteries, one Gas cylinder, one Generator set, one Refrigerator gas cylinder, and one Iron hammer.

    Others are one Big Iron scissors, one Air Conditioner gas pipe, an Abuja vehicle plate number, two Iron Pinches, one Machete, and two Plastic drums.

    The FCT Commandant of NSCDC, Olusola Odumosu, called for the regulation of pantaker markets in the FCT as they have become notorious places where vandalised and stolen items are sold.

    “If we must rid the FCT of scavengers and vandals who are sabotaging the efforts of the government on infrastructural development, then, there is an urgent need to regulate pantaker markets in the Federal Capital Territory,” he said.

    Five suspects including a 30-year-old Yahoo boy have been paraded by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja Command for offences bothering on Internet fraud and vandalisation of government infrastructures.

    The 30-year-old Yahoo suspect, Efe Joseph, was apprehended by NSCDC operatives while trying to escape from Top View Hotel, Wuse, Zone 5, Abuja, on Wednesday after he lured a hook-up girl, Olivia Ijeoma Chukwuemeka, into the hotel for an illicit operation.

    The video of the Yahoo boy who tied his victim with Cellotape inside the hotel immediately went viral, with warnings to viewers that the girl narrowly escaped being killed for ritual by her Yahoo boy.

    But addressing newsmen in Abuja on Friday, the Commandant of the FCT Command of NSCDC, Dr Olusola Odumosu said Efe Joseph dispossessed his victim of her phone to gain access to her bank account and defraud her.

    “After striping her naked and tying her with cellotapes, Efe dispossessed her of her phone and took off”, Odumosu said.

    Odumosu explained that NSCDC operatives within the hotel vicinity noticed Efe’s suspicious movements and sought to interrogate him, but he took to his heels.

    “The suspect took to his heels after sighting our gallant officers who chased him, caught him and was led back to his hotel room, where the naked girl was found tied hands and legs with semi-transparent adhesive tape (Cellotape).

    “The victim, Olivia Ijeoma Chukwuemeka, who hails from Abia State was immediately rescued from the situation where she had been stripped naked, bound, hands, feet and mouth.

    “The command’s investigation unit immediately swung into action.

    “Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect, Mr Efe is a serial fraudster (yahoo) and a thief, who specialises in luring ladies on dating sites one of which is ‘‘Codded runs” into hotel rooms with the intent to robbing them of their phones and making a withdrawal from his victims’ bank account.

    “Investigation also reveals that the suspect operates between Port Harcourt, Lagos, Benin, and Abuja,” Odumosu said.

    Odumosu however said the video in circulation was not shot by the NSCDC team who arrested Efe, asserting that they were only aware of its existence as it went viral on social media.

    While he said Ijeoma was not the first victim of the suspected Yahoo boy, Odumosu warned young Nigerian girls to stop patronising dating sites because of the activities of ritualists and fraudsters.

    Odumosu also said the Command arrested four vandals in the Sheda area of the FCT who specialised in the theft of armoured cables and electrical equipment and appliances.

    He gave their names as Usman Ibrahim, Theophilus Oche, Danladi Auwal, and Ado Alqasim.

    He said after thorough investigations have been concluded, all the suspects would be handed over to appropriate authorities for prosecution.

    NSCDC arrests suspected oil thieves in Rivers

    Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested seven suspected notorious oil thieves in Rivers State. 

    According to reports from the Headquarters of the Corps in Abuja, one of the suspects was a high profile person reputed for massive oil theft and vandalisation of pipelines in the Niger Delta region. 

    The Public Relations Officer of NSCDC in Abuja, Babawale Afolabi, attributed the arrest to crack operatives of the NSCDC’s Commandant General Special Intelligence Squad( CG’s SIS), saying the Squad acted on tip off to achieve the feat. 

    During the sting operation, one 43-year-old AbdulRauf Lawal and six others were arrested at Adobi Swampy Forest in Odagwa, Etche Local Government Area of the Rivers State, Babawale said in a statement.

    He said the achievement was in continuation of the Corps’ resolve to salvage the nation’s economy from crude oil thieves. 

    Babawale said: “The CG’s Special Intelligence Squad acted on a tip-off and stormed the forest where the criminal elements had re-launched their nefarious operations of illegal oil bunkering by constructing a massive surface trampoline reservoir and loaded it with stolen crude oil that was syphoned from the installed well-head 10.

    “In furtherance; these unscrupulous elements still mounted two separate local ovens inside the thick and swampy forest of Adobi community in Odagwa Town, Etche LGA of Rivers State.

    “During the raid, the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad operatives were able to discover many surfaces of Tampauline reservoirs and local cooking ovens ladened with large quantities of stolen crude oil already syphoned through connection to an illegal refinery site around the Imo/Rivers 11 Flow Station in Adobi Swampy Forest at Odahwa Etche Local government area of Rivers State.

    “In the course of the operation, a very notorious and most wanted pipeline vandal and oil thief was captured alongside six other suspects for their different levels of involvement in an offence of illegal dealings in petroleum products ranging from boiler, carrier, and buyer of the stolen crude oil”.

    Besides Abdulrauf Lawal, ‘( the ring leader), and most wanted oil thief, others arrested are Okechukwu Princewill, Samuel Chukwuma Nwogu, Ndubuisi Emmanuel, Samuel Okon Ebong, and Happiness Monday.

    Babawale listed items recovered from the scene  as large quantities of stolen crude oil filled inside the boat, a big wooden boat, many 6-inch industrial hoses that were used to illegally connect to the installed well-head, several instruments and tools abandoned inside the artisanal oil refining camp situated inside the swampy forest, and newly purchased drums.

    Audi, who noted that he had ordered the deployment of 6,433 of his men, said its

    personnel have responsibilities to ensure law and order before, during and after the elections, charging them to be impartial while discharging their responsibilities.

    In addition, Audi, who also warned his men, urged them to remain apolitical, professional and disciplined while on election duties.

    Audi said the personnel have responsibilities to ensure law and order before, during, and after the elections and charged them to be impartial while discharging their responsibilities.

    In addition, Dr Audi charged them to remain apolitical, act professionally, and be disciplined while on election duties.

    The NSCDC boss in a statement signed by the public relations officer of the Corps, Babawale Afolabi, said NSCDC has a vital role to play in the protection of critical national assets and Infrastructure.

    He said they should work alongside other security agencies to ensure the security of election materials, both sensitive and otherwise, during the exercise.

    He further said that 607 Special Forces would be deployed from the National Headquarters, which comprises the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, Special Female Squad, Anti Vandal Squad, Chemical Biological Radiological, and Explosive Unit, while Kennel ( K9) Unit has also been mobilized for the governorship election.

    “Our deployment for the Edo Governorship Election will cover all nook and crannies, including flash points; since we do not have a general election, we have enough personnel to deploy across Wards, Polling units, Collation centres, INEC office, and other areas.

    “All Personnel deployed are to work in synergy with other security agencies to ensure peaceful conduct of the election; the special forces and Antivadal squad are to ensure the protection of government facilities and infrastructure with more attention paid to the identified flashpoints and volatile areas; notably, the Undercover officers have been deployed few days to the election to maintain round the clock surveillance and provide up to date intelligence report and real-time security situation from all the 18 local governments in Edo States.

    “Let me use this opportunity to enjoin the politicians not to heat the polity unnecessarily; you are also advised to shun all forms of violence, thuggery, snatching of the ballot box, and any other forms of electoral malpractices that could disrupt the peaceful conduct of the election.

    “It is very vital to also warn in strong terms that Parents and Guardians should keep their children from being used as instruments of violence or being sponsored by desperate politicians to cause mayhem and electoral violence as those arrested would be charged accordingly in compliance with the extant laws”, the NSCDC boss stated.

    He directed the Deputy Commander General in charge of Operations; DCG Philip Ayuba, to ensure the overall supervision, monitoring, and effective coordination of the deployed personnel before, during, and after the elections

    Abia NSCDC arrests child trafficker/baby factory operator in Aba

    The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abia State Command, has arrested a 64-year-old man, Mr. Nnanna Michael in connection with operating illegal baby factories and child trafficking in Aba.

    The command said two women, identified as Miss Doris Nelson (23) from Gombe State and Miss Ugochukwu Winner (21) from Ihitte Uboma in Imo State, were rescued from Michael’s residence.

    Nelson was said to have given birth on September 9, and sold her baby.

    The other women, Miss Winner, is pregnant.

    In his statement, the NSCDC command said, Michael, a father of four and a former worker at a motherless home, admitted to harbouring expectant mothers, taking care of them until delivery, and selling off their babies.

    He alleged that Doris Nelson was introduced to him by a contact from Abuja.

    After giving birth to a baby girl, Michael was said to have sold the baby for N1.1 million, promising Doris N500,000, which she was said to have received N100,000 already.

    Further investigations, according to the command, indicated that Winner was introduced to Michael by Evangelist First Samuel, in Aba.

    The agreement entered by the parties was for Mr. Michael to buy the baby after delivery and resell it.

    Preliminary investigations by the command further indicated that Michael had been in the illicit business for long and had been leveraging his contacts from his previous work experience at a motherless home to find buyers and sellers.

    Michael, Michael, a native of Arochukwu Local Government Area, allegedly admitted to selling one baby last year and two this year before his arrest.
