    NSCDC nabs three suspects for oil theft in Anambra

    • Launches manhunt on adulterated petrol dealers

    Three suspects have been arrested and paraded in Anambra State by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence (NSCDC), for oil theft

    They were conveying 1,625 litres of adulterated diesel also known as Automotive Gas Oil in Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government of the state.

    The suspects, Okechukwu Okeke (28) from Ojoto, Idemili South LGA; Emeka Chukwuma (34) from Akili – Ozizor, Ogbaru LGA, both in Anambra State and Ifunanya Ike (29) of Mbano LGA of Imo State, were arrested on Thursday, March 28, 2024 along Atani road.

    Parading the suspects at the State Command, State Commandant, Olatunde Maku said the suspects were nabbed by the Joint Operating Team of Anti-vandalism Squad of the Command headed by ACC Chinenye Chinweze and the Nigerian Navy.

    He said the suspects were conveying the products in two shuttle buses, one a white coloured bus with plate number Anambra AWK 429 XY and an ash-coloured bus with registration number Anambra GDD 277 XB.

    He said the suspects would be arraigned after investigations were concluded, vowing to step up the fight against crude oil theft, illegal oil bunkering and petroleum products black market racketeering in Anambra State.

    The NSCDC boss called on the public to assist the command in its renewed vigour to stamp out illegal oil refining activities in the state through provision of intelligence on illegal oil bunkering activities within their domains.

    He said, “This arrest was made possible in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy and preliminary investigation revealed that the illegally refined products were loaded at Ogbakuma and headed to Okoti community, both in Ogbaru area.

    “I want to commend the Nigerian Navy for their support in the fight against criminality in the state. This type of synergy is what is needed to wage a full-scale war against perpetrators of the heinous crime.

    “NSCDC as the lead agency in the protection of critical national, state and local government assets and infrastructure is known for its zero-tolerance in crude oil theft and illegal bunkering activities.

    “We remain focused on freeing Anambra State of illegal petroleum products racketeering and other related criminalities.”

    NSCDC raids illegal oil bunkering site in Abia

    The Special Intelligence Squad (SIS) of the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi has raided an illegal refinery site in Abia State.

    NSCDC in a tweet on its X official said they raided the illegal bunkering site located at Ubeaku Waterside in Ukwa East Local Government Area of the state.

    The Commandant’s Special Intelligence Squad during the raid destroyed cooking pots, tanks and drums.

    The statement by the agency has it that over 22,000 liters of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) were destroyed in the raid.

    Our correspondent reports that the NSCDC Special Intelligence Squad also uncovered and raided massive illegal oil bunkering sites where they arrested 5 suspects in Rivers State as well.

    The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence (NSCDC) in Anambra state has apprehended and paraded three individuals for oil theft.

    The suspects were caught transporting 1,625 litres of adulterated diesel, also referred to as Automotive Gas Oil, in Odekpe in Ogbaru local government area of the state.

    The arrested individuals include Okechukwu Okeke (aged 28) from Ojoto, Idemili South LGA; Emeka Chukwuma (aged 34) from Akili-Ozizor, Ogbaru LGA, both in Anambra State; and Ifunanya Ike (aged 29) from Mbano LGA in Imo State.

    The arrests took place on Thursday, March 28, 2024, along Atani road.

    Parading the suspects at the state Command, the state Commandant, Olatunde Maku Maku disclosed that the suspects were apprehended by the Joint Operating Team of the Anti-Vandalism Squad of the Command, led by ACC Chinenye Chinweze, in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy.

    He revealed that the suspects were transporting the illicit products using two shuttle buses: one white-coloured bus with license plate number Anambra AWK 429 XY, and an ash-colored bus with registration number Anambra GDD 277 XB.

    Maku affirmed that once investigations are concluded, the suspects will be prosecuted. He emphasized the commitment to intensify efforts against crude oil theft, illegal oil bunkering, and petroleum products black market activities in Anambra state.

    The NSCDC chief urged the public to support the command’s renewed determination to eradicate illegal oil refining by providing intelligence on illicit oil bunkering activities in their communities.

    He said: “This arrest was made possible in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy and preliminary investigation revealed that the illegally refined products were loaded at Ogbakuma and headed to Okoti community, both in the Ogbaru area.

    Easter festivity: NSCDC Commandant pledges adequate security for Abia residents

    The Abia State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Usman Ishaq Alfadarai has assured the people of Abia and residents of adequate security of lives and property during the 2024 Easter celebrations.

    Commandant Alfadarai gave the assurance after the Command’s Quarterly Operations Strategy Review meeting held at the NSCDC headquarters in Umuahia, the Abia state capital.

    Handing a fresh charge to Officers and Men of the Command to scale up security during the Easter celebrations after the quarterly review meeting, the State Commandant said: “The Quarterly Operations Strategy Review meeting affords us the opportunity to critically evaluate our operations in the last few months, make adjustments where necessary and or launch entirely new operations based on available intelligence.

    “This is what we have done and I am glad to announce to us that we are doing very well but there is still room for improvement.

    He applauded the undercover operatives of the corps in the state for the actionable intelligence information they have provided which has necessitated the launch of a new operation to tackle a new crime dimension with a view to improving on the security of the State.

    ”I want to assure the general public that we are fully committed to our mandate of securing lives and Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.

    “The Management after the crucial quarterly operations strategy Review meeting has concluded plans to launch a new operation which beyond the Easter festivities and its attendant security and traffic concerns will ensure a safer environment for economic growth and development of the State.” Commandant Alfadarai said.

    The Abia NSCDC boss thereafter directed Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, and Heads of Tactical Units to be on standby and ensure a hitch-free Easter Celebration in the State.

    He further stated that strategic deployments have been made with special attention to worship and event centres, Motor Parks, Malls, and other flashpoints.

    According to the State Commandant, the action complies with the directive of the Commandant General; Ahmed Abubakar Audi to emplace necessary measures to tackle the envisaged increased pressure on security on one hand and in human and vehicular traffic on the other during the Easter celebration but insisted that personnel must be guided by global best practices in carrying out their assigned duties.

    He however warned that disciplinary measures as contained in the Corps’ Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be meted out to those who may go contrary to the rules of engagement.

    While felicitating with the Christian faithful as they commemorate the 2024 Easter celebration, Commandant Alfadarai enjoined them to emulate the life of sacrifice, peace, and love as exemplified by Jesus Christ adding that the period offers a time of sober reflection and prayer for God to heal our land.

    He solicited the continuous support of the general public by providing useful information to enable the security agencies to serve them better.

    NSCDC arrests five at illegal oil bunkering site in Rivers

    The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Rivers State has arrested five suspects at illegal bunkering sites in Odagwa community, Etche Local Government Area.

    The spokesperson, Olufemi Ayodele, while parading the suspects yesterday, said the sites operated 10 refineries with about 500,000 litres of crude oil contained in 50 illegal reservoirs.

    He said the NSCDC would continue to fight against crude oil theft, illegal mining, illegal dealings in petroleum products, among others.

    He said: “Based on credible intelligence the Commandant-General’s Special Intelligence Squad (SIS) swung into action and uncovered 10 illegal local refineries in a forest located at Odagwa Community, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State. Five suspects were caught illegally refining crude oil.

    “During an operational tour across the large forest, about 10 different cooking pots of 50,000 litres capacity were seen with one big pumping machine, receiver tanks, 25 rubber hoses used for pumping crude oil, and many long galvanized pipes with unqualified litres of crude oil and refined Automotive Gas Oil stored in six very large reservoirs and other 20 smaller reservoirs dug on the ground.”

    Ayodele identified the suspects as Favour Chukwu, Desmond Umeh, Godwin Amos, Bineace Galion, and Goodnews David. They have been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

    The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Rivers State command, has uncovered massive illegal bunkering sites at Odagwa community, Etche Local Government Area of the state.

    It was gathered that the Commandant-General’s Special Intelligence Squad, which made the discovery also arrested five suspects in connection with the economic sabotage.

    Parading the suspects in Port Harcourt, the Rivers Command Spokesperson, Superintendent Olufemi Ayodele, said the sites operated 10 illegal refineries with an estimated 500,000 litres of crude oil contained in 50 illegally constructed reservoirs.

    He said that the NSCDC would continue to work assiduously in the fight against crude oil theft, illegal mining, and illegal dealings in petroleum products amongst others across the country.

    He said: “The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has reiterated over time that all acts of economic sabotage would be fought to stand still as suspects arrested would face the full wrath of the law irrespective of their sponsors.

    “In furtherance, the CG gave a marching order to the Special Intelligence Squad charging them to be more thorough and results-oriented in their operations.

    “Based on credible intelligence the CG’s SIS swung into action and uncovered 10 illegal local refineries in a forest located at Odagwa Community in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State where 5 suspects were caught in the act of illegal refining of crude oil”.

    He added: “While conducting an operational tour across the large thick forest about 10 different cooking pots of 50,000 litres capacity were seen with 1 Big Pumping machine, Receiver Tanks, 25 rubber hoses used for pumping crude oil and many long galvanized pipes with unqualified litres of crude oil and illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil stored in 6 very large reservoirs and other 20 smaller reservoirs dug on the ground.”

    He said the names of the suspects arrested, who had been handed over to the Rivers State Command for further investigation and possible prosecution were Favour Chukwu, Desmond Umeh, Godwin Amos, Bineace Galion, and Goodnews David.

    The Rivers State Commandant Basil Igwebueze also condemned the unrepentant act of unscrupulous elements who tapped into the Oil Well Head of Heirs Energies and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) located around Imo River 2 Oil and Gas field at Odagwa in Etche, through different channels.

    He said the oil thieves inserted their galvanized pipes and syphoned crude oil while processing the same within the premises without recourse.

    He thanked the Commandant-General for the commissioning of the Special Intelligence Squad, who he said had been working relentlessly across the states of the federation to combat the menace of illegal dealings in petroleum products, crude oil theft, and vandalism of railway lines amongst others.

    He said: “The uncovering of this massive illegal oil bunkering site is a landmark achievement and an indication that the NSCDC as the lead agency in the protection of all critical national assets and infrastructure will continue to combat crude oil theft with a renewed vigour even as we work in synergy with sisters security agencies to salvage the nation’s economy from saboteurs.”

    “Let me reassure you that thorough investigation has commenced to unravel those behind the scene while all suspects arrested in connection with this act of vandalism and crude oil theft would be charged to a Court of competent jurisdiction and their sponsors or cartels would be trailed and brought to book without compromise”.

    FCT Command of NSCDC deploys 5230 personnel for Easter celebrations

    The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Olusola Odumosu, has ordered the deployment of 5,230 personnel across the nooks and crannies of the FCT for the Easter celebrations.

    The deployment, according to Odumosu, is to ensure the maintenance of peace and order across the FCT and its environs during the period.

    While addressing principal officers at the Command Headquarters at Wuse, Zone 5, Abuja, Commandant Odumosu, said the intelligence report indicated that there is a need to take proactive measures against breach of peace during the period.

    He noted that the command has deployed NSCDC operatives around the FCT for surveillance and intelligence gathering to foil any planned attack anywhere.

    In a statement by the command Public has Relations Officer,  Idoko Samuel, the Commandant said all special squads such as the Armed Squad, Female Strike Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Special Crack Squad (operation Adaka-su) and Agro Rangers have been deployed to ensure the maintenance of law and order.

     Odumosu said: “The corps is committed to ensuring the safety of Critical National Assets as well as the lives and properties of residents of the FCT.

    “There is no room for carelessness and overzealousness while carrying out your duties during this season. You must abide strictly by the operational order, harassing innocent residents who are going about their lawful business will not be tolerated.”

    He assured the residents of the Federal Capital that they can enjoy the holiday season without threat to their safety as the Command is providing security in all places of worship, recreational centres, markets, Shopping malls, motor parks and other flashpoints during the holiday season.

    He warns miscreants, vandals and other mischief makers to keep off Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, stating that personnel of NSCDC will not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law on anyone caught or found culpable.

    NNS Delta hands over 10 suspected oil bunkerers to NSCDC

    The Nigeria Navy Ship, NNS-Delta, Friday, handed over ten suspected illegal oil bunkerers to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

    Addressing reporters, the Commander, NNS-Delta, Commodore Muhsin Abba, represented by the Base Operations Officer, Commander Patrick Ali said the suspects were arrested on March 8, this year while perpetrating the illicit act at Watson Jetty, Edjeba in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

    The suspects together with the exhibits reportedly recovered from them including two tug boats, two barges and nine storage tanks were paraded to journalists before the handing over to officials of the NSCDC for further investigation and prosecution.

    Speaking on the arrest, the Navy Commander explained that the NNS-Delta got intelligence report on the illegal operations in the area and swiftly deployed operatives to the jetty to clamp down the activities.

    He said, “On 8th March, 2024, we got intelligence of suspected illegal oil bunkering operations happening at Watson Jetty at Edjeba in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

    “Our men were deployed to the location and we conducted raids which led to the arrest of 10 suspects, two tug boats, two baggies and nine storage tanks.

    “As part of Navy functions toward nation building, we remain resolute on freeing our areas of operation from all forms of illegal oil theft and related criminalities.

    “We thank all government agencies that support our operations, as well as the whole of the society whose contributions to our efforts have been phenomenal.”

    Responding, while taking over the 10 suspects and the exhibits, the NSCDC Commander, Warri Anti Vandals Patrol, Abdullahi Mustapha, a Deputy Superintendent of Corps, representing the State Commandant, Commander Agbola Suleiman, assured that “they would be thoroughly investigated for possible prosecution.”

    • Four suspected kidnappers, informant held in Ondo

    Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have foiled attempts by some persons to begin the production of locally-made rifles and pistols in Abuja.

    A statement by the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, said the NSCDC Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation put the suspects under Surveillance and Monitoring and were able to apprehend them.

    The statement reads: “Acting on a tip-off that a group of individuals were manufacturing semi-automatic rifles and pistols at Moshood Abiola National Stadium area in Abuja, the Directorate acted swiftly and arrested seven suspects. They are Amos Iyawo (29), Jonah Mannaseh (27), Ezekiel Nannim (20), Naifa Pando (F, 26), Euphemia Peter (26), Faith Gadang (F) and Philemon Karam (F, 26).

    “Their confessional statements identified Iyawo as the team leader and who recruited others. He also said none of the rifles or pistols have been sold as production just began.

    “One of the suspects also confessed that he found the locally made pistol while on operations with the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) at Durumi in Abuja.”

    Afolabi added that items recovered from them were five already fabricated rifles, one pistols, one unfinished rifle, seven empty cartridges, two boots, rods, welding machine, filling machine, two searchlights, three pliers, shovel, cutlass and axes, hunters ID card and belt and other exhibits.

    He said the suspects would be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

    Operatives of the NSCDC in Ondo State also arrested an alleged kidnapper, Dairu Abdullahi, at Eti-Ose River Forest, Owol Local Government Area.

    Abdullahi was arrested after a gun duel. The NSCDC operatives stormed the forest in response to a distress call.

    It was gathered that Dairu and his gang collected N6.2 million ransom from their recent victim before he was arrested.

    Also arrested was one Uyobon Jim who served as informant to the kidnappers. He was also engaged in marijuana cultivation.

    Spokesman of the Ondo NSCDC, Aidamenbor Daniel, said another three suspected kidnappers were arrested at Abusoro camp, Ipele Forest Reserve, Owo council while attempting to kidnap their victim. He gave their names as Isiaku Jubril (37), Nura Idris (30) and Mohammed Sulieman (50).  

    Items recovered from the suspects include two locally made guns, three cutlasses, four mobile phones, and one NYSC uniform.

    He said the suspects would be prosecuted after investigations have been concluded while the narcotic suspect would be handed over to the NDLEA.

    NSCDC rescues wandering Anambra teenage boy in Ebonyi

    A 13- year old boy, Goodluck Onwe has been rescued by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Enugu State.

    NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, Okadigbo Edwin who disclosed this in a statement said the victim was rescued while wandering the streets of Abakaliki.

    He said the victim had since been reunited with his family in Anambra State.

    He said, “The little boy was seen wandering the streets of Abakaliki before he was rescued on the 4th of February, 2024 at about 1300hrs by operatives of NSCDC Ebonyi State Command.

    “Investigation revealed that the said boy stayed with a relative in Abakaliki but ran away from home with an intent to return to his parents who resides at Peter Okonkwo Street Aguleri, Anambra East LGA, Anambra State.

    “Subsequently, NSCDC Anambra State Command was contacted by Ebonyi State Command to trace the origin and parents of the Child.

    “In response, the Command made a frantic effort to locate his parents for identification and collection. After a detailed verification process, the boy has been handed over to Mr. Onwe Sabastine, his father.”
