Group alleges plots to undermine NSCDC operations

A Yoruba Apex Youth organisation, Igbimo Odo Yoruba Afenifere, has raised the alarm over an orchestrated plot to undermine the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and its leadership.

This, the group said, is part of the plot by some desperate politicians, to destabilise efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in addressing the nation’s security challenges.

The group described the plots as a deliberate smear campaign by those it called mischief makers hellbent on tarnishing the hard-earned reputation of the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr Abubakar Audi.

In a statement by its Secretary General, Olalekan Ajasin, the Apex Yoruba youth organisation, said the recent campaign of publications and planned protest against the management of the NSCDC in a section of the media were intended to ridicule the corps.

He further said these mischief makers and agent provocateurs donning the garb of public officers hide under the umbrella and cloak of anti-corruption war to persecute their preserved enemies with contrary views.

The group urged Nigerians to disregard the innuendos orchestrated by fifth columnists, salute the gallantry, patriotism, new sense of direction, and determination to ride the country of vandalism and criminal elements and therefore passed a vote of confidence on the hierarchy of the corp, led by the Commandant General, Abubakar Audi.

“Nigerians are wiser now and would resist attempt by anyone, to jeopardize current efforts by the NSCDC in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria,” the group said.

It also urged the individuals behind such plot to allow the CG and his team at the NSCDC to concentrate in meeting their mandate of tackling the security challenges confronting the country.

Maku named the first three suspects, staff of RSS, arrested at Kwata Junction Awka, while a member of G7 AVG security outfit was arrested at G7 Plaza St Joseph Road Awka.

Ex-NSCDC boss warns against moves to merge Corps with police

A retired Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Desmond Agu, has warned against moves to convince the Federal Government to merge the Corps with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

Agu, who until his retirement, was a commandant in six States, urged the Federal Government to shun any individual lobbying for such meger saying it would worsen the security challenges in the country.

Describing the security challenges as multifaceted, Agu said coordinated multiple approaches were needed to confront them adding that the NSCDC has filled significant part of the void.

Desmond, who spoke in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, said it was obvious that persons seeking the merger were ignorant of the roles of NSCDC as a special purpose security vehicle.

He said NSCDC’s special roles of protecting and safeguarding critical national infrastructures and monitoring the activities of private security companies among others would be undermined by such merger.

Agu recalled that the Federal Government’s white paper on the Orosonya Report recognised the special roles of NSCDC and called for  strengthening the corps to enhance its performance as an independent entity instead of merging it with any other force.

The former NSCDC boss said: “We must kill the idea of merging the NSCDC with the Nigeria Police Force because doing so will worsen the security challenges in the country.

“NSCDC was created by the Constitution as a special vehicle to tackle unique and critical security challenges affecting mostly the national economy. The corps is designed to protect critical security infrastructures such as oil pipelines, electrical installations among others.

“It is important to note that any attempt to merge NSCDC with the police will blur these critical roles and slow down the ongoing recovery of the National economy. Those, who are promoting this idea for whatever reason should jettison it because it will not do the country any good.

“Since its establishment, NSCDC has been professionally discharging it’s responsibilities, building public confidence in its activities. What the corps needs is better financing to keep performing it’s critical roles and not this merger”.

“Be careful of the types of people that promise you a better future abroad, don’t be desperate because some of them end up ruining your lives. They deceive you and collect huge money from you that there are ready made jobs, whereas, you may end up in slavery or forced to become sex workers.

“If you must travel abroad, follow the right channel that’ll give you rest of mind, don’t allow somebody to seize your international passport abroad, and place you under an oath that you’ll regret,” he warned.
