  • Ogun NSCDC rescues suspected kidnapper from being lynched

    The Ado-Odo/Ota Divisional Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) yesterday rescued a suspected child kidnapper from being lynched by irate mob in Ota, a suburb of Ogun State.

    The woman, named ‘Sade’,’ was caught, about 9 am, at Agbajowo Community in Ado/Odo Ota Local Government, near Faramed Hospital, on Ilo-Awela Road.

    The Ota NSCDC Divisional Commandant, Idowu Adesola, who confirmed the report, said: “The suspected child kidnapper was, in the early hours of Wednesday, September 19, about 0909 hours, rescued by NSCDC, Ado-Odo/Ota Division from being lynched by irate mob, which wanted to kill and set her ablaze.

    “The suspected, ‘Sade’ in her late 30s, claimed she came from Mile 2 in Lagos. She was caught roaming around some houses within Agbajowo community.

    “She later settled down in a house within the neighbourhood, where she claimed she wanted to have rest in its balcony.

    “An alarm was raised by some people, who suspected her movements. While interrogating her, an Android phone,  sweets, chin-chin, cooked rice, gala, among others, used to entice children, were found in her nylon bag.

    “After much interrogation by the community chairman and other leaders, everyone was convinced the young lady has a sinister mission. The area boys on the scene wanted to lynch her.  NSCDC intervened, and later handed her to Sango Divisional Police Command for more interrogation.”

    An eyewitnesses said the woman was caught with an Android phone, sim cards, and others.

    According to her, the woman quickly chewed and swallowed some of the items to avoid further questions.

  • NSCDC apprehends six in Cross River

    Cross River State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has arrested six suspected illegal miners in Biase Local Government Area.

    Its Commandant, Mr Stephen Lar, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Calabar that the suspects were arrested at a mining site on Monday.

    Lar said the command had declared zero tolerance for illegal mining due to the increasing activities of unlicensed miners in the state. According to him, NSCDC will ensure the nation’s economy is not sabotaged.

    He said: “Mining is the statutory responsibility of the Federal Government, anybody who engages in mining must obtain a licence from the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.

    “We were informed of these illegal activities through a tip off in Biase Local Government Area of the state.

    “Illegal mining has become a lucrative activity in that area and my men swung into action and arrested these people in the act.

    “We are going to carry out an intensive investigation to find out from the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel if they have license to operate or not. After that, we can prosecute them in the court of law to serve as a deterrent to others’.”

    The commandant told NAN that the command had reduced vandalism and oil bunkering in the state, saying the command was now handling illegal mining.

    “The eagle eye of NSCDC is everywhere, residents in Cross River should shun all acts of illegality because the law will not respect anybody found wanting.

    He said since he took over two months ago, he had arraigned 24 suspects for crimes, particularly in the oil sector.

    “We have achieved a lot during this short period that I resumed work here; I must commend all the officers and men of this command for their efforts in fighting all forms of illegality.

    One of the suspects told NAN he worked with one of the mining companies in Biase.

    “My company did not ask me to go in search of the precious stones and I don’t have any licence to operate.”

    I only got information that there is a new target area that has large precious stones, that was why I had to take some guys along with me to the place. The area where I got the precious stones does not fall within my company’s area, I only went there to get them and sell in order to buy food to eat,” he said.

    Cross River Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it  has arrested six suspected illegal miners  in Biase Local Government Area of  the state.

    NSCDC Commandant in Anambra, Mr Stephen Lar, told our reporter on Wednesday in Calabar that the suspects were arrested at a mining site on Monday.

    Lar said that the command had declared zero tolerance for illegal mining due to increasing activities of unlicensed miners in the state.

    According to him, NSCDC was saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that the nation’s economy is not sabotaged.

    “Mining is the statutory responsibility of the Federal Government, anybody who engages in mining must obtain a licence from the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.

    “We were informed of these illegal activities through a tip off in Biase Local Government Area of the state.

  • Eid-El-Kabir: NSCDC deploys 1,500 personnel in Ondo state

    The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), says it has deployed 1,500 personnel in Ondo state to protect lives and property during the Eid-el Kabir festival.

    Mr Pedro Awili, NSCDC State Commandant, disclosed this in an interview with our reporters on Saturday in Akure.

    Awili said that the deployment was in line with the directive and operational order from the NSCDC Commander-General, Abdulahi Gana to roll out for proper monitoring and protection of people of the state.

    According to him, the security agency will be on the street to further protect lives and property; and our men will be on standby day and night during and after the Muslim festival.

    “So, for this year Eid-el Kabir, 1,500 of our men have been deployed in order to ensure that no criminal element is allowed to operate across all the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.

    “As usual, we are doing this in collaboration with other security agencies. This is part of social responsibility of the command to protect people of the state.

    “Meanwhile, we have all agreed that there no stone will be left unturned and we are going to ensure that whoever commits crime will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” he said.

    The commandant warned that whoever intends to commit crime should relocate to other state, saying his command would not tolerate any criminality in the state.

    “For those who intend to commit crime. We want to remind them that Ondo State is now a safe haven for everybody and there is no hiding place for criminals,” he said.

    Awili, who urged the Muslims faithful to be security conscious during their celebration, advised them to show love to adherents of other faiths

    “Let me appeal to our Muslim brothers and sisters that they should not take laws into their hands because this is time to show love and extend their love to Christians, while Christians should also extend their love to the Muslims” he said.

  • Oyo NSCDC arrests vendors of new naira notes

    The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, yesterday, paraded 10 people for selling the nation’s currency notes in an operation that lasted two days, across various sites in Ibadan, the state’s capital.

    The culprits were paraded at the Commands headquarters Office, Agodi Secretariat road, Ibadan.

    They allegedly contravened the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, Section 20, which outlaws counterfeiting, hawking, selling or trade in Naira notes, coins or any other note, issued by the apex bank.

    The detainees include, Dotun Wahab (34), Kunle Oladipupo (35), Tijani Abodun (32), Eniola Waheed (22) and Olanrewaju Adepoju (35).

    Others are Obisesan Olalekan (31), Gbenga Omowaye (40), Samson Ojewola (24), Akintola Gboyega (37) and Anifat Abiodun (38).

    Over N1 million fresh banknotes, comprising various denominations, were recovered from the suspects.

    The State Commandant, John Adewoye, said investigations have commenced on the matter, to ascertain the source of the new naira notes.

  • Absence of witness stalls NSCDC’s illegal connection suit

    The prosecution of one Kadiri Siaka by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), over illegal electricity connection was on Friday stalled due to the absence of a prosecution witness.

    Siaka was docked in a Wuse Zone 6 Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, on July 4, on a count charge of illegal electricity connection.

    When the case came up for hearing, NSCDC’s counsel, PureHeart Agabaenwere, told the court that the witness he intended to examine was not in court.

    Aganaenwere urged the court to step down the case pending when the witness will be in court.

    The Chief Magistrate, Theresa Otu, however, adjourned the case until Aug. 27 for definite hearing.

    The prosecution had alleged that the defendant trespassed into the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) property and illegally connected electricity into his shop.

    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in like sum.

    The offence contravened the provisions of Section 286 sub (2) of the Penal Code.

  • NSCDC boss assures private security bodies of co-operation

    The Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Gana Abdullahi, has promised a robust relationship with various licensed security organizations in Nigeria.

    Gana Abdullahi said this at a meeting with the chief executives of security companies at Sheraton Hotel, Lagos during an event tagged: An Evening with the Commandant General.

    Throughout its existence, the meeting became the first time that a commandant general of the NSCDC has ever sat down to a thorough meeting with the chief executive officers of the security companies in Nigeria.

    At the meeting, Gana Abdullahi, who was appointed by President Mohammadu Buhari on July 17, 2015, told his audience that  he is throwing open his doors to welcome the security companies to work together and ensure a cordial security synergy between government and the private sector.

    As a way of moving forward, Gana Abdullahi announced to his eager audience that henceforth private security companies can renew their licences online which will create the needed access to renewal without the usual bottlenecks and red tapism.

    The information brought about excitement among the chief executives and gave them a relaxed atmosphere to ask for more. As a body, they laid before the commandant some of their challenges which include the incursion of expatriates into our industrial security space.

  • NSCDC generates N4m revenue in Oyo state

    The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC ), Command in Oyo state says it generated about N4 million as revenue from registration of private guard companies between January and June 2018.

    The Public Relations’ Officer of the command, Mr Olusegun Oluwole, disclosed this on Thursday in an interview with our reporter in Ibadan.

    Oluwole said the anti-fraud unit of the command also recovered N26.8 million from fraudsters which has been returned to the owners in the months under review.

    He said 731 approved private guard companies are currently operating in the state and some of them have been undergoing training with the command.

    Oluwole said the state commandant of the corps, John Adewoye, has vowed to sanction private guard companies operating illegally or failed to adhere to the rules and regulation guiding their operations in the state.

    He further said that anti-vandalism unit of the command also apprehended two tankers loaded with 66,000 litres of petrol, adding that the drivers abandoned the tankers and ran away.

    Oluwole said that investigation was on going at arrest the drivers as well as the owner of the product.

    The spokesman said the command has been mounting regular surveillance on NNPC pipelines to ensure that they were not vandalised.

    “The command’s anti-human trafficking and child protection unit treated 16 cases, while the crisis management and disaster unit handled nine cases.
    “The peace and conflict resolution unit handled 90 cases.
    “We are able to achieve these successes because the welfare of officers, training and retraining are paramount in the mind of our commandant, ’’ Oluwole said.

  • NSCDC to deploy 5000 personnel to protect farms in Borno

    The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on yesterday said it would deploy about 5000 personnel from its Agro-Rangers Unit to protect farmers and their investment from attacks by criminals, especially kidnappers.

    The Commandant-General of the corps, Abdullahi Muhammadu, disclosed this at a news conference in Maiduguri.

    Muhammadu said the deployment was to forestall attacks on farms and to boost farmers’ confidence in carrying out their activities without fear.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NSCDC Agro Rangers Unit is an initiative of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Obge and his Interior counterpart, Abdulrahman Dambazau.

    He explained that the establishment of the unit followed the recommendation of a committee headed by the Director, Joint Services in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Noah Auta, which was inaugurated in 2016 as a result of the farmers and herders clashes.

    Gana said that the 5000 armed personnel were trained by the Nigerian Army on weapon handling and were set to be deployed to guard farms and ranches.

  • NSCDC deploys 1,200 personnel to liberated Borno councils

    The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 1,200 personnel to restore civil authority in liberated local government areas of Borno State.

    Commandant-General Abdullahi Gana, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri, said about 1,100 of the officers were from Borno and the others from Yobe and Gombe corps.

    He said: “I am here in response to the directive of the Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), that we should deploy men to facilitate the return of civic authority communities liberated from Boko Haram.

    “The move is aimed at building confidence and resilience of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to return home. It is also to reassure them that peace has returned so they can go back and continue their farming activities.

    “I am also here to inaugurate the movement of our men. We did it in 2015, when we deployed about 1,000 personnel to seven liberated communities.

    “So this is the second time and we want to ensure that the liberated councils are properly secured,”

    The officers deployed include special armed squad and counter-terrorism squad; anti-riot squad; bomb detection and disposal unit, Intelligence and detection unit, as well as rescue and medical team.
