    Understand that money isn’t everything

You should understand that it’s not always about money. To get into your desired field or dream job, you’ll probably need to gain some experience. This could be entry level or even unpaid. Weigh your options carefully before choosing one job over another or worse still quitting your job. You should be prepared to start from the bottom.

    Live within your means
learn to manage whatever money you are paid. It is for a limited period of time. If you live above your means, you will get into trouble. At this point, you’ll probably be used to having limited funds since you got stipends during your service year.

    Remember: it’s never too late.

    Once again, Congratulations!

NYSC: 16 corps members to repeat service in Anambra

Sixteen members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Anambra are to repeat their service year while three others will serve various terms of disciplinary measures.

The Anambra NYSC Coordinator, Mr Ebenezer Olawale, who made the disclosure on Thursday in Awka, said no formal passing out ceremony was held in the state.

Olawale added that certificates were issued at the various local government NYSC offices.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 2, 158 corps members successfully concluded their service year and were issued with discharge certificates.

NAN also reports that seven deserving corps members won the Governor’s Award, while four went home with the Chairman’s Award as the youth members passed out on Thursday.

The coordinator congratulated the outgoing youths but regretted that 19 of them were to face disciplinary measures, with 16 repeating their service, while three would serve the extension of between two and four months.

On the upcoming November 18 governorship polls in Anambra, the NYSC coordinator said that the body still had enough manpower to take care of its expected role in the election.

“There are no fewer than 8,000 corps members currently serving in the state,’’ he said.

Olawale noted that his office would work with the NYSC offices in neighbouring states to Anambra to take care of any shortfall in the provision of personnel for the election.

He said the discharged corps members who wished to take part in the election were at liberty to stay back but no one was under compulsion to do so.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the NYSC Brig.-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, will visit Anambra to address corps members ahead of the governorship election.

Olawale told NAN that Kazuaure would hold a one-day interface with the corps members on Nov. 7 alongside heads of other security agencies in Anambra at the Alex Ekweme Square in Awka.

According to him, the director-general’s visit was largely to speak to the corps members who would serve in ad-hoc capacity during the election on the need for them to be neutral.

2, 045 corps members to pass out Thursday in Kwara

A total of 2, 045 corps members are expected to pass out from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme after the completion of the mandatory one year national service in Kwara.

  • El-Rufai seeks more funding for NYSC

El-Rufai seeks more funding for NYSC

Gov. Nasiru El-Rufai of Kaduna State on Wednesday called for improved funding for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to make it function effectively.

El-Rufai made the call when the leadership of NYSC, led by its Director General, Brig.-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure paid him a courtesy visit in Kaduna.

Kazaure is in Kaduna for a 3-day pre-orientation workshop for the 2017 batch ‘B’ corps members.

The governor said the scheme should be properly funded as it serves as avenue of exploring the country’s diversity and strengthening its unity.

“So, whatever the NYSC scheme needs to successfully take care of corps members, for them to go wherever they want to be in Nigeria, should be fully funded.’’

The governor however frowned at situations in which corps members refuse postings to places they had never been to in the country.

“From what I hear, many young people now don’t like going to states other than where they will be comfortable.

“They think places where they have never been to are hostile communities and they don’t want to go there.

“But I will like to use this medium to appeal to our young people to be adventurous.

“NYSC will make you go to places you have never been because that is how you will know more about Nigeria.’’

El-Rufa’i advised the NYSC management to do more in posting corps members to areas new to them.

“This is what I will like to see the NYSC do, instead of fixing postings; just allow the computer to post people based on where they have gone to school,’’ he said.

According to him, posting corps members to where they have never been to was the only way to bring young Nigerians together so they can understand the nation’s problems and challenges.

El-Rufa’i thanked the management of NYSC for choosing Kaduna as venue for the national workshop and expressed the hope that the forum would boost the economy of the state.

He added that the development was an indication that the security situation in the state had improved.

Earlier, Kazaure said the choice of Kaduna State, to host the event, was in appreciation of the support and hospitality the scheme enjoys from the government and its people.

The director general assured that the scheme, under his leadership, would continue to build on its solid foundation, as well as come up with initiatives that would promote national integration.

No Corps member had twins for me, it is a rumour – Amosun

Governor Ibikunle Amosun on Friday morning broke his silence on what he considered as the avalanches of rumours and falsehood being peddled against him by people bent on running him and his administration down.

Amosun cited the case of a lady on National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who was rumoured to have had twins for him in less than a year ago and said the rumour gained so much currency that his Mother – In-law had to call him to confirm if what she heard about a ‘second wife’ having twins was true or not.

The Governor who debunked the rumour as “concoction of idiots” at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, during a Town Hall meeting of stakeholders for the 2018 Budget preparation, said no lady or girl friend had twins for him.

The meeting was organized by the state’s Ministry of Budget and Planning for the purpose of collecting the inputs of all stakeholders and build them into the preparation of the 2018 Executive Appropriation Bill but Amosun used the avenue to clear air on rumours being circulated against him.

He said has been married to his wife, Mrs Olufunso Amosun, in the last 26 years and had never kept a girl friend, let alone having one that delivered twins for him, adding that the twins issue also got to the notice of his wife.

He noted that task of keeping one wife is even challenging today in Nigeria and had no plans to double such challenges with additional baggage.

The Governor also vowed to smoke out those peddling rumours and falsehood against him, saying he would send them to jail where they rightly belonged.

He noted that those purveyors of falsehood could beat James Hadley Chase in “fiction concoction.”
