    •Lagos  empowers 2,613 women entrepreneurs with N2.1b

GOVERNORS Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Seriaki Dickson (Bayelsa) and Ayodele Fayose (Ekiti) have hailed the contributions of women to the society and nation-building.

They spoke at the opening of the 17th National Women Conference organised by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) in Lagos with the theme: “She creates, she transforms”.

The governors took turns to celebrate the doggedness, dexterity and creativity of women and their notable contributions towards building a better society.

In his goodwill message at the event, Ambode lauded the resilience of women in their different spheres, noting that women are naturally-gifted with skills and talents that make positive difference and impact on their generation.

He said: “Our women are constantly creative; making something out of nothing. Creativity has become very essential to succeed in today’s world because we face new challenges everyday – at home and at work. As the woman creates and transforms, she positively impacts the family, the workplace and the nation.

“With the female population in our country today, it is clear that our women have the capacity to positively affect the Nigerian economy and are already doing so.”

He was optimistic that the conference, aside celebrating the resilient and dynamic nature of women under diverse situations, would go a long way to unleash the creative and transformative energies of more women.

Ambode, who restated his administration’s commitment to supporting female entrepreneurs, added that as at September 2017, no fewer than 2,613 female entrepreneurs, who run Medium and Small Scale businesses have been funded through the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund to the tune of N2.1 billion, assuring that more would be given before the end of the year.

The governor congratulated the first female mechanic, Sandra Aguebor, who was presented with the Inspirational Woman of the Year Award, saying she had dared to succeed in a career many see as a sole reserve for men.

Emmanuel, who was guest of honour, lauded COWLSO Chairman and Lagos State Governor’s wife Mrs. Bolanle Ambode for sustaining and improving the COWLSO conference, which started 17 years ago.

The governor said there was need for women as liberator of the world to be appreciated by every man for their contributions to growth at all times.

On the theme of this year’s conference, Emmanuel urged women to live their lives by creating and transforming people and things around them without minding the shortcomings, adding that it was important for them to keep hope alive.

Also, Dickson said the role of women in transforming life could not be under-estimated, saying that it was imperative for women to always be appreciated and celebrated.

Dickson and Obaseki hailed Lagos State for the initiative, saying that they would replicate same in their states for the benefit of women.

On his part, Fayose said life without women would be full of crises, saying that it was important for women to be given opportunity to be in the drivers’ seat in the country.

In her welcome address, Mrs. Ambode urged women to speak up against the barbaric practice of female genital mutilation, saying that the campaign must start from the home-front, churches, mosques,  offices and the communities.

Mrs. Ambode said: “Female genital mutilation is evil, it is wicked, it is anti-social and unjustifiable. In fact, it is a crime against women. We must devote time for enlightenment and awareness, especially among uneducated mothers. We must stand together against it, until the practice is totally eradicated in our country and the world.”

She urged woman to resist the temptation of pursuing economic empowerment at the expense of taking good care and paying attention to their children, stressing that children who do not enjoy parental care, easily grow to become potentially dangerous youths and threatening the peace of the society.

“The rising trend of leaving the girl-child entirely in the care of housemaids, neighbours or strangers in pursuit of income or for flimsy reasons, should be discouraged.

“We must desist from and discourage child-labour, child-abuse and fight child trafficking with all our strength. We owe it a duty to give good parenting to our children and indeed all other children put in our care. We must give them hope and allow them see the positive side of life, as a way of bringing back good morals and societal stability,” Mrs. Ambode said.

In her keynote address, the Vice President’s wife Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo urged women to work hard to transform their children and wards into greatness and create a safe and secured society by inculcating the right virtues in their children.

She particularly urged the womenfolk to draw inspiration from women who had performed creditably well in their chosen profession, and endeavour to leave their footprints on the sands of time.

Mrs. Osinbajo said women must speak up against rape and all forms of abuse against women and children, and also speak in defence of the downtrodden and less-privileged in the society.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of the Inspirational Woman Award Mrs. Aguebor by Mrs. Osinbajo and the unveiling and beautiful rendition of the COWLSO anthem.

  • Obaseki lauds cooperation, unity in Sobe

Obaseki lauds cooperation, unity in Sobe

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has assured that his administration will continue to work for the good of all in the state, saying the primary essence of governance is to bring happiness to the citizens.

He said his administration would take advantage of opportunities in the agricultural sector and provide requisite support to communities ready to open up their land for agricultural investment.

He said the state was driving economic growth by encouraging investments in agriculture and allied industries so that Edo would not only become self-sufficient in food production but also diversify its revenue base.

Obaseki, represented by Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu, at this year’s Sobe Day  in Sobe, Obaseki had expressed happiness at the unity in Owan West Local Government Area as demonstrated by the huge support and presence of guests at this yearly celebration.

He noted that the state government identified the resolve of Sobe people, who are ready to welcome investments in agriculture, and stepped in to provide them with the necessary support to expand their operations. He commended Sobe community for contributing to economic development by actively promoting and investing in agriculture.

According to Obaseki, the community’s appeal for qualitative health care and education aligns with his government’s priorities, adding:’’Primary healthcare and basic education are part of our priorities as an administration and we are working to develop primary health care centres in the state as well as laying a good foundation in basic education for our children at the early stage in their life.’’

He said: “The primary essence of governance is bringing happiness to the people, which isthe utilitarian essence of governance. You don’t constitute mortal danger to your people and you don’t drive people to desperate solutions. When all these are on ground, obviously there won’t be much problem.  I am particularly happy with the unity of our people of Owan West as demonstrated by the presence and support of guests such as State House of Assembly member Hon. Victor Ojo Asein, Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Reginald Okun,  All Progressives Congress Chairman, Mr. Tunde Omoruan and Angelina Aigbokhae at this year’s Sobe Day celebration.”

Chairman of the occasion Prof Smart Uhakheme urged the people to be alive to their civic responsibility, especially as it affects choosing their political leaders during elections and holding them accountable.

According to him, Sobe Day has come to stay as it has not only occupied a major spot on the community’s festival calendar but it has also become a permanent feature of their lives.

“We now plan our annual leave or vacations around it. In fact, many people come home from America and other faraway places for Sobe Day celebration than during xmas or New year. Also, it has become a shining example, which other neighbouring communities emulate,”  he said.

Uhakheme noted that time had come to refocus efforts on setting a new agenda which should include economic development and effective political participation. Achievement of these two goals, he said, will put the community in a strong position to tackle the most pressing issues which include security, health care and management of resources. ‘

’As a community we must get involved in the political process. It is important for all of us to participate actively. By doing so, we can affect the outcome any election and bring about the desired change. Perhaps, more important, effective participation can forestall the general tendency of putting round pegs into square holes,” he added.

His Royal Highness Anthony Ero Aleburu 1, the Odion-Ibiado of Sobe, called for the continued maintenance of peace, security and unity among the people, noting that it is only in the atmosphere of peace and unity that Sobe community can develop as government cannot do it alone.

“It is on record that most of the development efforts in Sobe were done by our illustrious sons and daughters. We can still do it again if we are united. It is on this light I call on those still aggrieved to come and join the fold because the more we are the merrier,’’ he added.

Sobe Forum President-General, Mr. Tony Akerele, who called on state government to provide adequate health facilities for Sobe lamented the non-functioning of the state owned health centres in the community. He therefore called on the state government to consider establishing a general hospital in the community, which he said, will serve all the adjoining communities in the area.

Akerele pleaded that the primary, junior and senior secondary schools in the community should be adequately staffed and equipped for maximum results. “Our secondary school is in need of laboratory equipment for the teaching of science subjects. Once we educate our teeming youth population each will be able to confront poverty and rebuff cultism,” he said.

He commended the prompt response by the governor to the community’s request for more teachers to the community secondary, noting that Sobe is glad that the state has planned to construct the abandoned Sobe-Ora road project. He, however, also appealed for the construction of Sobe Market that was demolished and abandoned for years.

Chief launcher and APC leader (Owan East) Alhaji Abdulganiu Lawani and other guests made hand some donations towards the health project.

The event witnessed presentation of awards by the Lagos-based Ohiame Social Club to Apostle Funsho Osoro and Hon. Jimfred Aigbologa Obaidiku for their selfless sevices to the community.  Also, over N1 million worth of small scale business equipment, such as two motor cycles, four hair dryers, four grinders, four sewing and two vulcanising machines wre won through raffle draws.

Among guests who attended the event were representatives of Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, and Acting Chairman Owan West Local Government, Dr. Owolabi,  the SSA to Governor, Hon. Oni Enahoro; Hon. Tony Ohimai Ikhianvbode, Chief Isewede Ovude, Alhaji Sufiunu Igbafen.

  • Assembly okays Obaseki’s N2.3b loan

    Assembly okays Obaseki’s N2.3b loan

Lawmakers in Edo State House of Assembly have approved  Governor Godwin Obaseki’s request to secure a loan of N2.3 billion from Bank of Industry (BoI), to buy buses for Edo City Transport Services (ECTS).

The loan, according to the governor, is to buy 75 44-seater buses at N30.8 million each.

He told legislators that the loan had a five-year repayment period, with less than five per cent interest rate.

Majority leader and member  from Orihonmwon South Roland Osoro, who moved the motion for the loan approval, said it would boost the services of the transport firm and enable the governor to execute the transport master plan.

Speaker Kabiru Adjoto said the request was satisfactory, as it is meant to revitalise ECTS operations.

He described as affront failure by contractors handling dualisation of Benin-Auchi-Okene Highway to honour lawmakers’ invitation.

Adjoto said the Assembly would sanction contractors who failed to execute road projects after collecting mobilisation fee from the Federal Government.

He said Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company and Mother Cat Nigeria Ltd must honour the House invitation on October 23 to explain why they abandoned the contract.

The Speaker said contempt for the legislature was a serious offence under the law, adding that the Assembly will not succumb to threat or intimidation.

He noted that the slow pace of work on Benin–Auchi Road has inflicted pains on the people.

Gelegele Sea Port: Committee submits Technical Report Obaseki

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has received the technical report on the proposed Gelegele Seaport, which is envisioned to serve as a key artery for the state’s economic diversification efforts.

The governor received the report at the Government House, Benin City, on Wednesday, from the Technical Committee on the actualization of the Gelegele Sea Port, led by its chairman, Engr. Greg Ero. Obaseki commended the committee for a job well done and noted that the project was a critical infrastructure in the state.

He stressed the role of water transportation as a major driver of economic activity, noting that moving goods through the waterways remain one of the fastest means to grow the economy.

According to him, the Gelegele Seaport is essential in view of the incoming investment to the state, as the setting up of a sea port will enhance the evacuation of agricultural produce in a cost-efficient manner to both the local and global markets.

He said the move to establish the port is apt and in line with the Federal Government’s economic recovery plan, which stipulates that states develop economic plans that will stimulate exportation.

“We have travelled to various countries, especially Asia, to attract investment that will revamp our competitive advantage in oil palm and rubber. Edo State is a logistic hub for this country. From here, goods can be efficiently moved to various states and distributed across the country.”

Noting that the state government would ensure that the report guides the implementation of the project, he said, “As a government, we want to assure you that the report is critical. We will immediately commence work on the recommendation and seek expert impute in building an infrastructure of this magnitude.”

The chairman of the committee, Engr. Ero said his team worked on the terms of reference it was given to prepare a report on the port that would open Edo up to the world, adding, “We visited Gelegele community, relevant offices and locations. We gathered information and data from various sources, including reports on previous assignment commissioned by the Federal Government on Gelegele.”

Ero said the committee took a holistic view of the project and addressed in great details, the location of seaport, sea route to the Atlantic Ocean, and critical issues of port viability required to pass a business case test.

  • ASUU, PDP blame Obaseki’s policy for crime rate

ASUU, PDP blame Obaseki’s policy for crime rate

No negotiation with criminals –  Governor

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Benin chapter and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State have blamed Governor Godwin Obaseki policies for the rising crime rate in the state.

Three policemen were killed last month during the abduction of the Managing Director of Ogba Zoo and Nature Park, Dr. Andy Ehanire while ace Edo musician, Osayomore Joseph, was abducted on Tuesday.

Both men are yet to be released.

Several other persons including Catholic Priests have been abducted in different parts of the state.

A Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, University of Benin (UNIBEN), Prof. Paul Otasowie, was shot dead on Wednesday.

Reacting to the killing of Prof. Otasowie, the Chairman of ASUU, UNIBEN chapter, Prof. Julius Iyasele, condemned the killing and blamed it on high level of insecurity in the state

Prof. Iyasele said terror was unleashed on the people following the disbandment of Community Development Associations (CDAs) without an alternative for the members.

He said: “The state government stopped CDAs and there is no alternative to them. These boys (CDA members) are people who are used to spending big-time money. You blocked area boys and there is no alternative; you have simply unleashed terror on the people.

“The action (outlawing of CDAs) is good but what we are saying is that you should have provided an alternative that is so simple to get.

“As it were, citizens of Edo State and Nigeria at large are under siege because within the space of one or two months, a number of our colleagues have been kidnapped or murdered in cold blood. A few days, a colleague from Ekiti State University, who is a council chairman in one of the polytechnics in Bayelsa, was shot at the Benin bypass.

“The bullet pierced through the stomach of the driver and came out from the other side. The boy was just lucky. And they said that they had just left a police checkpoint on the bypass when it happened. I don’t know whether we have security agents in the state.

“Yesterday, one of our colleague’s in-law who visited at Ekiadolor was also picked by kidnappers. When they (family) went to drop the money to release the person, from the experience of the victim, the people (kidnappers) were with sub-machine guns because they had bullets strapped around them.”

On its part, the PDP said the rising insecurity in the state was most likely a direct consequence of the new policy thrusts of Governor Obaseki.

It said Governor Obaseki did not analyse the situation to know when to throw a large number of poorly educated, unskilled but politically exposed, used and then dumped men and women without an alternative source of income into the labour market at a time the country is experiencing recession.

A press statement signed by its Publicity Secretary in the state, Chris Nehikhare, reads: “The ‘We will partner with you’ government in Edo State should stop chasing shadows and tackle substance. The result is a spike in crime.

“He should spend more time at home, engage the populace that are local and show more respect to Edo residents and citizens. There is a popular Nigerian saying ‘wetin you dey find for Sokoto dey for shokoto.”

But Governor Obaseki said his administration would not be forced to the negotiation table by criminal elements and organised crime overlords.

He said law and order, as well as the liberty of the law-abiding Edo citizens and residents are not for sale.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, the governor urged Edo people to remain calm and vigilant.

  • Obaseki, lawmakers experience pains on Bénin-Auchi-Lokoja highway

Obaseki, lawmakers experience pains on Bénin-Auchi-Lokoja highway

WHAT the Benin-Auchi-Lokoja highway is a death trap and an eyesore for over three years is not news.

What is news is that politicians and leaders do not experience the pains the masses go through on that road, because they avoid it.

The reason much attention has been shifted from its deplorable state is that our leaders and politicians travel to their villages and destinations either through Ondo or Delta or take the new roads built by former Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

Commercial vehicles plying the routes from Benin to Ekpoma-Auchi-Abuja have increased their fares by over 50 per cent because they take longer routes.

Apparently peeved by the worsening condition of the road, lawmakers in the Edo House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Kabiru Adjoto, travelled through the road as a way of protesting to the Federal Government.

Adjoto said the protest was to show solidarity and share in the pains experienced by travellers and motorists.

From Benin to Ekpoma through Uhumwode Local Government takes 45 minutes but to get to their destination on time, lawmakers took another route, spanning three councils.

The lawmakers made a stop at Ekpoma, headquarters of Esan West, to inspect the bad section of the road. Ekpoma axis of the Benin-Auchi has been unmotorable for over three years.

Principal Resident Engineer of the Ekpoma road, Ishaku Mamri, who received the lawmakers, said Dantata and Sawoe construction firm was mobilised to the Ekpoma axis of the road for palliative works to address challenges on the road.

Project Site Supervisor for Dantata and Sawoe, Suleiman Nasiru, said the initial contract awarded to the firm was from Agbede in Etsako West to Ewu hill in Esan Central. He told lawmakers that the Ekpoma axis was recently awarded to the company to address perennial challenges in the area.

The journey back to Benin through the Benin-Auchi highway made lawmakers feel the pains and agony of motorists.

Their convoy got stuck in bad section… At a point, it was a lorry that towed the vehicles out of a ditch.

Narrating his experience Adjoto described it as bad and unpalatable.

“You can see where we went through to get to Ekpoma. If this is what motorists go through, then it is not a good experience. Three times our vehicles got stuck; a tanker had to help us out.

“We will continue to shout until the Federal Government respond by getting the contractors to site. RCC has worked only 14 kilometres and it decided not to go beyond the fly-over. Dantata and Sawoe is just working at the Ewu hill section.

“It is our view that the contract awarded to Dantata and Sawoe, Mother Cat and RCC should be revoked. Raji Fashola is a man that we respect much. He is doing wonderfully as a minister, but on this Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi-Okpella road, there is need to revisit the performance of the  contractors. They are not competent

“We are dissatisfied with the federal controller of works and we have resolved that the contractors can no longer deceive us.

“The present condition of the road was unacceptable to residents in the state, who travel through Ondo or Delta to get to their destination. The protest on the road was to show solidarity and share in the pains of travellers and motorists.

“Our oversight functions have doubled. We are now together as a team. It is unacceptable for Edo residents to travel through Ondo State when coming from Edo North.

“We are not satisfied with the pace of work and quality of jobs done. We are moving through that road. We know Edo people are suffering.” He said.

Last week, Governor Godwin Obaseki travelled to Edo Central to inspect 10 road projects as well as the failed portions of the Benin- Ehor -Ekpoma- Auchi Expressway. To avoid delay in his journey, Obaseki went through Okwo and Okha Villages in Uhunmwode to avoid the failed portions on the Benin-Ehor axis.

Obaseki lamented that the Edo axis of the Benin-Ehor-Ekpoma-Auchi Expressway, is in a scandalous state, wondering why the two former ministers of Works from Edo could not use their influence to make Federal Government dualise the road.

“It is a tragedy that Edo State had the opportunity to produce two ministers of Works, who are from this area, but they failed to dualise the road, which is the main artery connecting Edo State with the northern and other parts of the country.

“It is really unfortunate. We will do our best and will continue to appeal to those who are in charge to come to our aid,” he said.

    Obaseki cuts traders tax

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki  has granted Oredo traders a 50 per cent reduction in the yearly levy as tax waiver, after their protest against an increase in the charges.

Obaseki, who was represented by his deputy, Mr Philip Shaibu, spoke yesterday in Benin at a meeting on the issue at  the Government House.

He promised that the Harmonised Local Government Tax and Levies Law would be reviewed to meet international best practices.

The governor noted that  the local governments gave an equal tax levy to traders based on sizes of their shops.

But he said investigation showed that most of the original shops were partitioned into two.

The governor explained that although the local government acted in accordance with the law, the law also empowered to the governor to grant tax waivers to last 25 days.

He said those whose shops were partioned would pay N25,000, and those in complte stores N40,000, while those in warehouses remained in accordance with the existing law.

Obaseki called on the traders to make input on the review bill before it gets to the Assembly.

He appealed to their leaders to explain the situation to their members on the advantage of the tax waiver window, assurance them that the law will be amended to resolve issues raised.

Leader, Coalition of Traders and Artisans, Mr Collins Oheziua, promised to take the message back to their people, but appealed to the government to consider more tax reduction to enable more traders meet up with the payment.

  • Obaseki seeks international coalition to end slavery

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki is seeking partnerships with international organisations  to end slavery, in its other manifestation.

Obaseki spoke while commemorating the International Day for Remembrance of Slave Trade and its Abolition in Benin.

The International Day for Remembrance of Slave Trade and its Abolition is set aside by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

This is to remember the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.

The maiden edition of the day was celebrated in Haiti on Aug. 23, 1998.

Obaseki said: “While Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade in human beings ended over 200 years ago, slavery has refused to go away.

“Slavery still thrives in several other forms.

“Millions of children, teenagers and even adults, being sold daily across the world by human traffickers to greedy masters and mistresses, who use them for cheap labour and illicit sex trade.”

The governor, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr Crusoe Osagie, decried the negative backlash of human trafficking on the society.

He listed them as the erosion of age-old progressive values, such as hard work, integrity and self-worth.

Obaseki said international coalition was needed to put an end to the de-humanising practice.

“In Edo, our administration is committed to the fight against human trafficking as many Edo youths have lost their lives to the illicit trade.

“We have set up an Anti-human Trafficking Task Force to go after human traffickers,” Obaseki said..

He said his administration would support the Federal Government’s plan to extend the whistle-blowing policy to human trafficking.

The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, which started in the 16th Century by the Portuguese, ended in 19th Century.

Historians put the numbers of Africans transported to America at over 12 million between 16th and 19th centuries.

•Edo governor eulogises the late justice at thanksgiving service

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki yesterday said the late Supre Court Justice Andrews Otutu Obaseki waited for the confirmation of his election at the Supreme Court before dying.

The governor spoke at a thanksgiving service in honour of the patriarch of the Obaseki family at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Benin City, Edo State capital.

The governor, who led other members of the Obaseki family to the thanksgiving, said the late Justice Obaseki lived a life worth emulating, as he represented the essence of the Obaseki family.

He explained that the essence of the Obaseki family is justice, truth, discipline, fairness, education, hard work and the fear of God.

The governor thanked God for giving the family the opportunity to honour their father.

Governor Obaseki said the late justice was active after retiring from the Supreme Court in 1991, and was relevant till his death.

”After retiring as a justice of the Supreme Court, he took on the responsibility of training judges at the National Judicial Institute (NJI). He later returned home and played an active role in the palace of the Oba of Benin as the Obaseki of Benin Kingdom,” he said.

The governor noted that the late justice was a prayerful man and served as a cloud that covered him, stressing that he will be greatly missed by the family.

”He was prayerful; he waited for me to win at the Supreme Court and died two days after, and for me that is profound,” Obaseki noted.

Delivering a sermon, titled: “Entering the kingdom of God through our works” the Bishop, Anglican Diocese of Benin, Revd. Peter Imasuen, taking his reading from Matthew 25: 1-34, called on the congregation to live fulfilled lives that affect those around them positively, knowing that their works will be tried on the last day by God, who is the Judge of all Judges.

He called on Christians to be ambassadors of Christ, live disciplined lives and make heaven their focus, as these are sure ways to inherit the kingdom of God, which is the final destination for Christians.

Speaking about immortalising the late Justice, the governor said besides the scholarship the Obaseki family instituted at St. Peter’s Anglican Church to immortalise him, he had been immortalised in several ways, such as the auditorium of the National Judicial Institute named after him.

He added that the Oba of Benin honoured him with a hereditary title: “The Obaseki of Benin Kingdom”, stressing that he will be remembered for so many things.

The eldest son of the late Justice, Edosa, said the shoes left by his father will be too big to fill but promised that he will do his best to unite the family and ensure that his father’s legacies live on.

Dignitaries at the event include Edo State Head of Service Mrs. Gladys Idahor; Justice Adah N. Ehigiamusoe (who represented the Chief Judge of Edo State, Justice Esohe Ikponmwen); Justice Pat Elumeze; Justice Okeaya-Inneh, Majority leader of Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA) Asoro Roland; Lawani Damian.

Others are top palace chiefs; Esogban of Benin Chief David Edebiri; Edobayokhae of Benin Chief Osemwegie Ero; Uwayeoba of Benin Chief Solomon Ogbewe; Obasogie of Benin Chief Eduwu Ekhator Obasogie; Nobabor of Benin Chief K.O. Oteghekpen; and Obobaifo of Benin Chief Esosa Eghobamien.

Forum alleges plot to discredit Obaseki

There are plots to dent the image of Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, Benin Integrity Forum, has alerted.

In a statement by its Chairman, Ehima Omoregie, it said the plot is sponsored by agents of destabilisation.

“They met somewhere in Benin City, where the plot was hatched to, among others, blackmail some top government functionaries to soil the reputation of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

“The plot, which hopes to score cheap political points  should be seen as antics of failed politicians.

“I have incidented this with various security agencies but call on Edo people to watch out for such malicious publications since these reactionary elements have, in the last eight months, tried to distract Governor Obaseki, essentially in social media. We also call on these blackmailers to desist.”
