Oborevwori commission’s varsity, road projects, assures Deltans of funds management

Delta State has literally become a complete construction site, all thanks to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori who has been commissioning various projects in different locations across the state.

As part of activities marking his first 100 days in office, the governor unveiled some of his successfully completed projects.

At the Isoko South and North Local Government Areas yesterday, the governor commissioned some projects, even as he assured Deltans of government commitment to the management of funds in the running of the state.

Governor Oborevwori who made this statement while commissioning projects in University of Science and Technology and 2.6km Enwhe-Uwheru road project phase 2, said the government is determined to offer Deltans meaningful development as part of his More Agenda.

Oborevwori spoke shortly after the inauguration in the Enhwe community, when he was hosted by High Chief Victor Wayles Egukawhore, an indigenous marine and oil magnate, as well as Chairman De-Wayles Group of Companies.

The governor while discussing areas of partnership with his host commended Egukawhore, “for his deep involvement in numerous human development projects within Delta State and the broader Southsouth region.”

Oborevwori said the commitment of his administration is to see that projects started by the last administration of his predecessor are not abandoned or become wasted of funds, saying that he has promised Deltans that he will consolidate on the already established projects.

In his words, “This university was established when I was a speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly. Immediately after the establishment, the government began the process of improving the facilities of the university in line with its new status.

“The university has five reasonable structures on ground but some additional structures were needed for its smooth running. This ultra-modern furnished administrative building comprises a fully furnished office for the Vice Chancellor, Deputy, Bursar, Registrar and their staff.

“Others are 2.km interlocking internal roads, University Guest house with 21 rooms and squash court, and Principal Officers Staff quarters. Some of the projects are already.”

“ I therefore appreciate the immediate past Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa for his courage and vision in establishing the three new universities in the state.”

On his part, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof Nyerhovwo Tanukari, noted that, Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, commenced with 45 academic programmes in six faculties, all duly approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, has urged Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to ensure the kick-off of infrastructural developments, particularly the Ayakoromo Bridge across Ijaw kingdoms in Delta State.

The group in a statement in Warri yesterday, said the advice was necessary in view of the approval of some infrastructural projects, which included three flyovers, to the tune of N78billion, in Warri and Effurun, during the State Executive Council meeting on Tuesday.

The statement was signed by Chairman, Secretary and Information Officer, Dr. Doubra Okotete, Olu Derimo and Lugard Izoukumor of the IYC Western Zone, which comprises Delta, Edo and Ondo states.

It hailed the governor for approving the projects, but expressed displeasure that critical projects such as the Ayakoromo bridge, which had been a subject of campaign promises, as well as the Ogulagha-Odimodi Road and permanent site of the School of Marine Technology, Burutu, all in Ijaw areas, were not prioritised for commencement.

However, admitting that the Oborevwori-led government is new, the body urged the governor to, in no distant time, do the needful as the projects will not only create employment for youths, but also attract investment and boost commercial activities.

overdue projects, we urge the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to swiftly initiate the necessary steps for the implementation of these projects.
