He underscored the importance of technical and vocational education as a solution to youth unemployment, emphasising that such institutions would equip graduates to become skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, and employers, rather than job seekers.

The governor hailed the institution as a flagship investment in technical education by his administration.

“In just two years, we’ve delivered landmark projects without borrowing or burdening the people,” he said, describing the college as a prime example of effective resource management, with contractors paid promptly to ensure timely completion.

Senator Ede Dafinone representing Delta Central, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is poised for overwhelming victories for President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori in the 2027 general elections.

He spoke in Sapele, during the inauguration of the Sapele chapter of the Okpe, Sapele and Uvwie Federal Constituency (OSU), held at the Sapele Local Government Council Secretariat.

Addressing party members and supporters, the senator said the APC was aiming for massive votes, not narrow margins, to boost the constituency’s political relevance and attract development.

He said larger voter turnout in Sapele would determine the level of attention the area would receive.

He urged party members to maintain unity and show loyalty to the state and federal governments, noting that sustained support for President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori was key to delivering dividends of democracy at the grassroots.

Dafinone congratulated the newly inaugurated OSU executives and assured them of his support, enjoining them to secure clear APC victories across all wards.

OSU Coordinator, Chief Solomon Ighrakpata, said the group was formed on April 4, 2025, to mobilise support for the performing federal and state governments, drawing members across political and ethnic lines.

Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in Delta, Kingsley Esiso, said OSU’s mission was to ensure Governor Oborevwori’s re-election in 2027, urging2 grassroots mobilisation, party registration and voter engagement.

Delta APC Deputy Chairman, Chief Paulinus Akpeki, said the large turnout reflected growing confidence in the party as it consolidated ahead of the next general elections.

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has described technical and vocational education as a critical tool for addressing youth unemployment, saying graduates of such institutions will emerge as skilled professionals, entrepreneurs and employers of labour rather than job seekers.

The governor spoke on Monday at the inauguration of the Model Technical College, Omadino, in Warri South Local Government Area, describing the institution as a flagship investment in technical and vocational education by his administration.

Oborevwori said some achievements were best appreciated when seen rather than spoken about, noting that within two years, his administration had delivered landmark projects without borrowing or imposing additional burdens on the people of Delta State.

“Even I am often amazed at how much we have been able to achieve within two years without borrowing and without burdening the people. This project we are commissioning today is a clear example of prudent management. Contractors were paid promptly, and that is why delivery was timely,” he said.

The governor disclosed that academic activities had commenced at the college before its formal commissioning, a development he said underscored the facility’s readiness and full functionality.

According to him, the college represents a major milestone in advancing technical and vocational education in the state, reflecting clarity of vision, strategic planning and disciplined execution.

He noted that the institution’s internal road network, administrative blocks, classrooms, workshops and laboratories demonstrated his administration’s commitment to quality education.

Oborevwori commended his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for initiating the project and said his administration ensured its completion to the required standard.

“Today, I am pleased to see a beautiful and solid edifice standing proudly. We give God all the glory. Any student, lecturer or staff member would be proud to be associated with this institution,” he said.

The governor also praised the quality of training at the college, citing the confidence and articulation of a student who spoke earlier at the event as evidence of effective teaching and learning.

He emphasized that modern educational infrastructure was essential for a conducive learning environment, improved student performance and enhanced teacher effectiveness.

“With the high-quality facilities provided here, I am confident that students of this college can compete with the best anywhere in the world. All workshops and laboratories are fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities,” Oborevwori added.

Reaffirming his commitment to education under the MORE Agenda, the governor assured Deltans that his administration would continue to upgrade educational infrastructure across the state to ensure access to functional education and globally relevant skills.

He, however, urged the management, staff, students and host communities to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities, stressing that government property represented the commonwealth of the people and must be protected from vandalism and neglect.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Technical Education, Mr. Smart Ufoh, described the Omadino Model Technical College as more than a modern technical school, calling it a bold statement of purpose and a symbol of transformation.

He said the institution had 12 classrooms and nine fully equipped workshops, alongside two hostel blocks, staff quarters, a principal’s lodge and a corps members’ lodge to ensure a conducive learning environment.

Other facilities include a dining hall, clinic, spacious school hall, football pitch and basketball court, as well as support infrastructure such as a generator house and operational quarters.

Ufoh disclosed that academic activities commenced in September 2025 with the admission of Junior Technical One students to prevent the facilities from lying idle, adding that the response from Omadino community and beyond had been overwhelming.

Also speaking, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Hon. Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, commended the governor for his people-centred leadership and development projects across the state.

He described the commissioning of the college as a landmark achievement, alongside major projects such as the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges, extensive road networks, improved drainage systems and the near-completed Warri Modern Stadium.

Agbateyiniro said development projects had reached all parts of the state within three years, adding that the people of Warri South remained firmly behind the governor ahead of 2027.

The Olu of Warri, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III, thanked Oborevwori for his commitment to the development of riverine communities and urged him to sustain investments in schools, bridges, roads and jetties across riverine areas.

Oborevwori swears in six judges, earns against erosion of public trust in judiciary

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday warned that the erosion of public confidence in the judiciary poses a grave threat to peace, law and order, stressing that when citizens lose faith in the justice system, they may resort to self-help, a situation capable of plunging society into chaos and anarchy.

The governor gave the warning in Asaba during the swearing-in of six newly appointed judges for the Delta State High Court and the Customary Court of Appeal, urging members of the Bench to uphold the highest standards of probity, fairness, courage and impartiality in the discharge of their constitutional duties.

Those sworn in as judges of the Delta State High Court are; Justice Otite Jonah Akpobaro, Justice Jereoma Sam-Oligida, Justice Irene Boeye Ukuli and Justice Otome Benjamin Adamidenyo, while Justice Bridget Onome Ojeikere and Justice Stella Ovuorieroro Okah were sworn in as Justices of the Delta State Customary Court of Appeal.

Oborevwori said the stability of any democratic society rests heavily on a credible, transparent and independent judiciary, noting that justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done.

According to him, only a judiciary that acts without fear or favour can sustain public trust, guarantee justice for all, and preserve social harmony in the state and the nation.

Speaking further, the governor explained that the appointments were made strictly in line with Sections 271(2) and 281(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which empower state governors to appoint judges on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC).

He disclosed that the Delta State Judicial Service Commission nominated candidates for consideration by the NJC, which carefully screened and approved those found suitable for appointment.

Oborevwori congratulated the newly sworn-in judges, describing their elevation as a vote of confidence in their legal knowledge, integrity, professionalism and discipline.

“As you begin this new journey as privileged members of the Bench, I expect you to uphold the same spirit of hard work, commitment, excellence and high ethical standards that qualified you for this noble office,” the governor said.

He cautioned judges to resist all forms of temptation capable of compromising judicial independence, stressing that during adjudication, it is often the judge, rather than the litigants, who is ultimately on trial in the court of public opinion.

Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the justice delivery system in the state, describing the swearing-in ceremony as another milestone in efforts to build a judiciary that is functional, fast, fair and accessible.

He noted that appointment of the additional judges would help decongest courts, reduce delays and bring justice closer to the people, particularly those in rural communities.

He also outlined several reforms and interventions undertaken by his administration to support the judiciary, including the approval for the construction of judges’ quarters across the state, renovation of magistrates’ and customary courts, and the digitisation of the Laws of Delta State, now accessible on the state government’s website.

The governor further disclosed that virtual court hearing facilities have been installed in High Courts in Asaba and in correctional centres in Warri, Ogwashi-Uku and Sapele, supported by solar installations to ensure uninterrupted proceedings.

He added that plans were underway to introduce automated court recording systems to improve accuracy and speed in judicial proceedings.

Highlighting broader justice sector reforms, Oborevwori said the state had introduced the Delta State Criminal Information System, a centralized digital platform for criminal profiling, case management and offender tracking using biometric data, including fingerprints and DNA.

He explained that the initiative would enhance public safety, accountability and crime prevention, while complementing virtual court hearings conducted directly from correctional centres.

The governor also announced that, for the first time in the history of the state, a career civil servant, Mr. Omamuzo Erebe, Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, attained the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2025, describing the feat as a reflection of the quality of Delta State’s public service.

Responding on behalf of the newly sworn-in judges, Justice Bridget Onome Ojeikere, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for his support and respect for judicial independence, pledging that the judges would discharge their duties with integrity and without fear or favour.

The ceremony was attended by top government officials, members of the legislature, judiciary and other stakeholders.

…orders arrest, prosecution of anyone caught with firearms

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has directed security agencies to arrest and prosecute any individual found in possession of firearms or attempting to disrupt peace in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor gave the directive on Tuesday while receiving the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Police Command, CP Aina Adesola, and his management team during a courtesy visit to Government House, Asaba.

Oborevwori described the posting of CP Adesola to Delta State as a homecoming, noting that the police chief was well acquainted with the state, having previously served in key operational positions within the command.

He said the relative peace currently enjoyed across the state was a reflection of the collaboration between the police and other security agencies, adding that the new Commissioner has displayed experience, professionalism, and a deep understanding of the terrain.

“I am very happy that you are here because you know this terrain very well. You have served here before, and we saw your impact. For the few weeks you have been here as Commissioner of Police, Delta State has remained peaceful, and we are proud of your achievements,” the governor said.

Recalling the security situation prior to 2023, Governor Oborevwori noted that the open display of firearms by youths and criminals was once prevalent but had since been decisively curtailed.

He declared that such acts would no longer be tolerated in the state. “Before now, people brandished firearms openly and caused fear. Since 2023, that has stopped, and it will never happen again in Delta State,” he assured.

The governor commended senior officers within the command for their dedication and professionalism, singling out ACP Aliyu Shaba and the former Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, for their outstanding roles in tackling gun violence in previously volatile areas of the state.

As the state approaches another election cycle, Oborevwori charged the police command to remain firm and proactive, stressing that anyone found in possession of firearms or attempting to breach the peace must face the full weight of the law.

Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, has called on Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to embrace inclusive leadership and prioritise good governance as key strategies for consolidating the gains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Omo-Agege made the call on Friday while delivering remarks at the Delta APC stakeholders’ meeting at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba, stressing that unity, inclusivity, and people-oriented governance were critical to securing a “resounding victory” for the party in future elections.

It was Omo-Agege’s first attendance at a Delta State APC stakeholders’ meeting since Governor Oborevwori defected to the APC, and his first visit to the Government House, Asaba, in almost 19 years, marking a significant moment in the party’s efforts to solidify its presence in the state.

Speaking directly to the Governor, the former gubernatorial candidate emphasised the importance of carrying along his supporters who mobilised for the party in the 2023 general elections.

“As the Leader of the party in the State, Mr Governor’s leadership is critical to the collective progress of the party and good governance in the State,” Omo-Agege said.

“As a firm believer in service to our people, I am ready to work with the Governor and other leaders to ensure this party thrives and delivers bold and sustainable benefits to our people.”

He reminded stakeholders of his extensive political following across Delta State, noting that over 240,000 Deltans voted for him in the 2023 governorship election, a support base he described as vital to the APC’s future electoral fortunes.

“It is indisputable that as the immediate past governorship candidate of this party, I am privileged to have a huge organic political following in our state,” he said.

“I have no doubt that our Governor, as the party’s leader in the State, will take the initiative to ensure the inclusivity of my hundreds of thousands of faithful, diehard grassroots supporters in the party who made this possible and remain ready to mobilise for APC.”

According to him, such inclusivity would “undoubtedly help our party secure resounding victories in future elections at both state and federal levels.”

Omo-Agege also commended Oborevwori for personally inviting him to the stakeholders’ meeting, describing the engagement as timely and pivotal for the party’s future.

Reaffirming his loyalty to the APC, the former lawmaker said the party had grown into a formidable platform in Delta State and pledged his continued commitment to its growth.

“Without question, we have built the APC as a formidable political platform in Delta State, and we remain wholly committed to its continued success,” he said.

    …call for massive grassroots mobilisation

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has expressed concern over the poor turnout recorded during the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the state.

He urged stakeholders to mount an aggressive grassroots mobilisation ahead of the second phase in January 2026.

The governor spoke on Wednesday at a sensitisation and advocacy forum organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in collaboration with the Delta State Government at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.

Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, Oborevwori described the figures from the first phase as “deeply disappointing,” noting that just over 76,000 registrants fell far short of Delta State’s population strength and democratic potential.

He warned that voter registration is the gateway to democracy, stressing that without it, credible and inclusive elections are impossible.

Calling for urgent action, the Governor charged traditional rulers, political leaders, religious bodies, civil society groups, youth and women organisations, market associations, and the media to take the CVR campaign directly to the grassroots.

He made a special appeal to youths and first-time voters, describing them as the lifeblood of democracy and urging them not to surrender their future to apathy.

Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing a secure and enabling environment for INEC to discharge its constitutional duties, expressing confidence that the second phase of the exercise would record a dramatic turnaround.

Earlier, Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, said the engagement was convened in response to rising voter apathy and declining civic participation.

He warned that citizens who refuse to register and vote ultimately lose the moral authority to question governance outcomes, stressing that democracy thrives only when the people participate.

Emu urged stakeholders to energise their communities and encourage eligible residents to enrol.

In his presentation, the Delta State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Sir Etekamba Udoh Umoren, outlined the timeline of the first phase of the CVR, which commenced with online pre-registration in August 2025, followed by physical registration across local government offices and the display of the voters’ register for claims and objections, in line with the Electoral Act 2022.

He explained that the CVR accommodates first-time voters, those who missed earlier registrations, applicants seeking correction of personal details, replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and those wishing to transfer their registration.

The REC announced that the second phase of the CVR began on January 5, 2026, stressing that voter registration is a civic duty and a cornerstone of democracy, not merely an administrative exercise.

He also cautioned against registration offences such as multiple registrations and providing false information, noting the legal penalties attached, while assuring of INEC’s commitment to neutrality, transparency, and peaceful conduct of the exercise.

The sensitisation programme, which featured a roadwalk show, was attended by key stakeholders, including the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo; members of the State House of Assembly; Hon. Francis Waive, member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu Federal Constituency; traditional rulers, market women, civil society organisations, community leaders, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), ALGON, and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), among others.
