Odemwingie good for Swansea – Laudrup

Swansea boss Michael Laudrup has said Osaze Odemwingie would fit the bill as the club shop for a striker before the transfer deadline, MTNFootball.com reports.

Laudrup watched his team fire a blank at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday as Roberto Soldado’s penalty condemned Swansea to another defeat after last week’s 1-4 loss to Manchester United.

According to South Wales Evening Post, Landrup said he believes the club would land Osaze, who is a summer transfer target for Swansea City and two other EPL sides, Stoke City and Cardiff City.

Swansea manager has hinted that West Bromwich Albion outcast Odemwingie is a strong option as he bids to add one last player to his new-look squad.

“We want to add one more who can give us that in a certain part of the game or in certain games,” Laudrup said.

“And he (Odemwingie) is a player with pace who knows the league.”

The Danish legend is keen on the 32-year-old Nigeria international, who is surplus to requirements at ‘The Baggies.’

There are now suggestions that Swansea has tabled an offer of close to £2 million for Odemwingie.

    Stoke, Cardiff bid for Odemwingie

West Brom Albion has received offers of about £2 million from Stoke and Cardiff for Osaze Odemwingie with Swansea prepared to pay a little less.

WBA has previously rejected bids of £1.5million for the 32-year-old, but these latest offers could pave the way for his exit, according to Birmingham Mail.

Osaze has not played any part for Albion since his return to pre-season training, with the club making it clear there is no way back for him.

The Nigeria international has been sidelined since his well-publicized fall-out with the club last season – which started with his failed move to Queens Park Rangers and continued with a series of Twitter meltdowns.

Although ‘The Baggies’ are not prepared to let him go on the cheap, club officials are mindful that his age and contractual situation will drive his price down.

MTNFootball.com reports that Osaze has less than 12 months left on his current contract with Albion.

  • Verification: Edo teacher ‘can’t read own certificate’

oshiomoleIt was a drama of sorts during the verification exercise of primary school teachers’ certificates in Edo State on Tuesday as one of the teachers in the state, Mrs. Augusta Odemwingie, could not read a sworn affidavit she tendered as part of her credentials.

Mrs. Odemwingie teaches at Asologun Primary School, Ikpoba Okha local government area of Benin City,

Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who paid an unscheduled visit to the State Staff Training Centre venue of the exercise was appalled that a teacher could not read, saying “if you can’t read, what do you teach the pupils? What do you write on the board?”

The Chairman of the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Comrade Patrick Ikosimi, who was also at the screening to monitor the exercise, said the woman’s failure was “an embarrassment.”

On arrival at the centre, the governor took time to peruse some of the teachers’ credentials and documents presented.

When Mrs. Odenwingie took her turn during the exercise, the governor who listened to her defence asked her to read the affidavit she presented.

She stuttered and read the affidavit as if a kindergarten was learning to read, to the consternation of everybody around.

    West Ham joins Odemwingie’s chase

West Ham United is looking to capitalise on the failure of Crystal Palace and Fulham to secure the service of Osaze Odemwingie.

The out of favour West Brom striker was rumoured to be on the verge of moves to Ian Holloway’s side and Martin Jol’s side, but both fell through, MTNFootball.com reports.

That has left the door open for Sam Allardyce to add some panache alongside Andy Carroll, according to The Times.

West Ham officials have turned their attentions to the Nigerian, having failed to agree terms with the former Chelsea striker Kalou – who reportedly wanted assurances of a starting role within the Hammers attack for next season.

Al Nasr of Dubai is also considering increasing the initial offer for the former Lokomotiv Moscow striker.

Al Nasr owners had asked WBA to inform them what they considered to be an acceptable fee by Tuesday, after their initial bid of £850,000 was rejected.

But that deadline has now passed without further communication from ‘The Hawthorns,’ leaving ‘The Blue Wave’ to look elsewhere for summer recruits.

Dubai club sets deadline for Odemwingie

Dubai-based team Al Nasr has issued West Bromwich Albion an ultimatum over the transfer of Nigeria striker Osaze Odemwingie.

Al Nasr, who had a bid of £850,000 for Osaze rejected last week, is understood to have now given WBA until the end of the Tuesday to name its price for the player, MTNFootball.com reports.

Al Nasr believe Odemwingie should be available for £1m, but The Baggies’ is holding out for a bid of £2m for the Nigeria international, who joined the club from Russian Premier League side Lokomotiv Moscow in a £2.5m deal in August 2010.

Newly promoted Crystal Palace is understood to be showing an interest in the forward, while reports in the Middle East say Sunderland and Fulham are also in the mix for a deal.

Osaze was disciplined by WBA for trying to force a move to Queens Park Rangers in the January transfer window after falling out with club officials.

He has only made seven appearances for ‘The Baggies’ since then, all of which came from the substitutes’ bench.

    WBA wants £2m for Odemwingie

English Premier League club, West Browmwich Albion, has slapped a £2 million (about N493 million) transfer tag on Nigerian striker, Peter Odemwingie.

The forward has endured a difficult last seven months since unsuccessfully trying to force a transfer to Queens Park Rangers in January, supersport.com reports.

He had been fined, made to use a different dressing room from the rest of the squad, left out from the club’s pre-season tour and compelled to train with the club’s youth team.

Another Premier League club, Crystal Palace, has shown strong interest in Odemwingie but the latest bid for the 32-year-old’s services came from Dubai-based club, Al Nasr.

Al Nasr tabled an £850,000 (about N210 million) bid for the attacker but West Brom is holding out for £2 million.

With the forward spending more time away from football at the highest level, he took to Twitter to reveal his new passion – Golf.

“I think I need some antiGolf tablets cos the desire to play is getting too much hahaha greetings to everyone ! Brum still hot like in Hawaii,” he tweeted via @OdemwingieP.

Odemwingie joined the Baggies in 2010 but it seems he has finally reached the end of the road at the Hawthorns.

    N125m delays Odemwingie’s Palace move

A fee of about N125 million has continued to hold back Peter Odemwingie’s move from West Bromwich Albion to Crystal Palace, futaa.com reports.

The Nigerian striker runs out of the Baggies contract in the next 12 months, but Palace has expressed the desire to buy the player, who has since fancied a move away from the Hawthorns.

Palace is unwilling to offer more than N500 million (£2million), while Albion hold out for closer to N625 million (£2.5million), hence the deal to Palace is still some way from being completed as both clubs haggle over the fee.

The 31-year-old Nigerian international would jump at the chance of a move to Selhurst Park but he would have to wait while the two clubs try and reach a compromise.

    Eagles’ stars want Odemwingie back

Several players of Nigeria’s Super Eagles have declared that they would not mind having controversial West Bromwich Albion attacker, Peter Odemwingie back in the team, Supersport.com reports.

Odemwingie last featured for Nigeria in a 2013 Nations Cup qualifying game in Kigali, Rwanda in February 2012.

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi hinted in an interview this week that Odemwingie could get an unlikely recall to the national team.

“For (Odemwingie), he still has a place in the team. I’m not looking for an apology from him. (Odemwingie) is somebody that I like very well and he knows that. The thing is, it’s about the team that I’m worried about,” Keshi said.

Inter Milan midfielder, Obiora Nwankwo has now praised Keshi for “this bold step” and believes Odemwingie’s return would bode well for the African champions.

“Having Odemwingie back in the national team would be a big plus. With all due respect to all the strikers in the team who have been working hard, Odemwingie is a very experienced striker who knows his way to goal,” said the 21-year-old currently on loan at Romanian club, CFR Cluj.

Nwankwo added that experience plays a big role in teams winning matches when the stakes are high and insisted that Keshi’s recent declarations are nothing short of a masterstroke.

“Talent alone is not just enough to win games. You need experience and that’s where you need people like (Vincent) Enyeama, (Joseph) Yobo, (John) Mikel Obi and Odemwingie.

“The coach has acted like a father and we must respect that,” he said.

Enugu Rangers midfielder, Sunday Mba also added his voice to the issue and explained that Odemwingie’s potential and long years as a professional footballer would “help the team.”

“As footballers, our job is to go out there and play but experience is important in this game and I think Odemwingie would help the team in this regard,” he said.

  • Osaze begins rehabilitation

    Osaze begins rehabilitation

Nigerian international, Peter Odemwingie got a rare run out for West Bromwich Albion in the club’s 0-1 loss to Manchester City in the Barclays English Premier League on Tuesday night.

The 31-year old was drafted in after 76 minutes at Eastlands and came close to scoring in the 82nd minute but his effort whistled wide.

Five minutes later, Odemwingie was again in the thick of action as he won a free kick at the edge of the City penalty area after a foul by Sisenando Maicon. The direct free kick taken by Billy Jones was however blocked by Joleon Lescott.

Odemwingie was again booed by the pockets of WBA fans at the Etihad Stadium as they continued to vent their spleen on the forward after his failed bid to force a move to Queens Park Rangers in January.

The West Bromwich Albion manager, Steve Clarke had revealed at the weekend that he changed his mind about fielding Odemwingie in the club’s 2-3 home loss to Wigan after he was roundly booed by the fans as he warmed up for the game.

It was the Nigerian’s first appearance for WBA since March 30. Despite not starting any game for WBA since January, Clarke continues to insist the Nigerian is still fully in his plans.

“He is not frozen out. I don’t do that to my players. My relationship with Peter and all the players is good. He has been waiting patiently for his opportunity. I think that opportunity will probably come between now and the end of the season and he is fired up,” he said.

However, Odemwingie can now leave WBA if a suitable deal can be reached with another club. The Nigerian still has 12 months left on his current deal.

Botched transfer fallout: Osaze sacks agents

Nigeria striker, Osaze Odemwingie, has sacked his agents, he said on his Twitter account.

The 31-year-old striker was the centre of attention on transfer deadline day when mixed messages saw him drive to London believing he was due to sign for Queens Park Rangers, MTNFootball.com reports.

West Bromwich Albion denied a deal had been struck and manager Steve Clarke said just two weeks ago that the Nigerian international should seek new representatives.

“I have sacked my agents. They are at my gate begging for permission to negotiate a comeback. I told them to seek permission from authorities,” Odemwingie tweeted.

Odemwingie, who was reportedly fined two weeks’ wages over the transfer deadline saga, traveled with the WBA squad on Monday as they beat Liverpool in an English Premier League fixture, but watched the game from the stands.
