Group raises concern over misleading online content to malign Ododo, Yahaya Bello

    …urges investigation by security agencies

The APC Media Advocacy Network (AMAN) has urged security agencies to investigate the circulation of online content allegedly designed to create tension between the Presidency and the Kogi State Government.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, the group expressed concern over a surge in misleading videos, messages and publications on social media, presented as coming from supporters of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo or former Governor Yahaya Bello.

AMAN warned that the materials were capable of sparking misunderstanding among key political actors, noting that the videos were being circulated to create the impression of division within the party.

The group’s spokesman, Wisdom Ohalete, alleged that credible intelligence had linked the attacks to a faction of APC members led by a serving federal lawmaker who had vowed to destabilise the peace and unity the party currently enjoys in Kogi State.

He urged the Presidency to be on alert, saying some individuals were orchestrating a media onslaught meant to sow disharmony between the Presidency, the Kogi State Government and former Governor Bello.

The group further accused certain political actors of exploiting the situation to advance personal interests ahead of the 2027 elections, adding that the misleading materials were being widely circulated across WhatsApp, Facebook and other platforms.

AMAN also raised concerns that some content creators were being sponsored to produce inflammatory materials capable of heightening tension.

It urged security agencies to identify and apprehend those behind the messages to safeguard peace and stability in the state and within the party.

The group confirmed that one of the creators linked to the controversial videos had been arrested and was assisting investigators.

It appealed to stakeholders to refrain from actions that could escalate tensions and to support efforts aimed at strengthening party unity.

Reiterating the importance of preserving the cordial relationship between the Presidency and the Kogi State Government, AMAN urged the public to verify information before sharing it online.

  • Ododo: Silent work, loud results

    Ododo: Silent work, loud results

    By Ayo Olododo

I was among those who initially doubted the ability of the present Governor of Kogi State, Usman Ahmed Ododo, to deliver when he succeeded Governor Yahaya Bello amidst the heated debate over power rotation in the state. Like many others, I kept a distance, watching from the sidelines.

However, recent developments compelled me to take a fresh and objective look at his administration. What I found was both surprising and revealing.

In June this year, Governor Ododo achieved what many thought was impossible — he cleared ₦90 billion of Kogi State’s debt. For the first time in years, Kogi became debt-free, regaining fiscal independence and stability.

With this healthier financial footing, the government has sustained prompt payment of salaries and pensions and is already making arrangements to commence payment of gratuities. Civil servants now work with renewed confidence, knowing that their government delivers on its promises.

In the health sector, the Ododo administration has introduced the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme, making medical care more affordable and accessible to families across the state. This is a bold step towards achieving universal health coverage for all Kogites.

Education has also received an unprecedented boost. The government has made schooling completely free from primary to senior secondary level. In addition, the state now pays for NECO, JAMB, and BECE examinations — ensuring that no child is left behind because of financial constraints. This is practical empowerment for the next generation.

On infrastructure, the pace is equally impressive. The Lokoja International Market is nearing completion and is set to become the largest market in Northern Nigeria, expected to open vast opportunities for trade and job creation.

Two landmark projects are also in advanced stages — the Kogi Airport, scheduled to commence operations in December, and the Kogi Free Trade Zone, which will serve as a major magnet for investors and industries.

Across the senatorial zones, the transformation is visible.

In Kogi West, construction work continues at the Kogi State University, Kabba, where new lecture halls and facilities valued at ₦17 billion are springing up. Erosion control projects are ongoing in Kabba and adjoining communities, while the College of Education (Technical), Mopa, is set to be flagged off next week.

In Kogi Central, the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) has witnessed remarkable expansion with the completion of the Senate Building, Faculty of Medicine, sick bay, and new student hostels. Urban renewal projects are also reshaping major towns across the district.

In Kogi East, construction and rehabilitation works are progressing on critical roads and erosion sites, including the Idah Township Road, Akpa Erosion Project, Oguma Road, Omala Road, and Ayangba Township Road.

These projects — spread across all three senatorial zones — show that development under Governor Ododo is inclusive, balanced, and quietly effective.

Indeed, “Silent Work, Loud Results” is not just a slogan. It is the reality of a governor who has chosen to let his performance, not propaganda, do the talking.

Ododo, Okpebholo to conduct APC Ekiti Gov primary

Kogi Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo and his Edo counterpart, Monday Okhepebolo will on Monday conduct the consensus affirmation congress for the emergency of Governor Abiodun Oyebanji as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate.

The Ekiti Governorship election is slated for June 20, 2026.

The affirmation followed the adoption of the Governor as the only aspirant after the voluntary withdrawal of one of the two cleared aspirants, Mrs. Atinuke Omolayo Oluremi, leaving Governor Biodun  Oyebanji as the sole contender.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the party party in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Barrister Felix Morka penultimate Tuesday announced the change from direct primary to a consensus arrangement in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, and the party’s constitution.

According to Morka: “The All Progressives Congress announces its decision to now adopt the consensus mode for the conduct of its governorship primary election in Ekiti State.

“The change from the earlier indicated direct primary to consensus mode was necessitated by the voluntary withdrawal of one of the two cleared aspirants, Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo.

“In a letter to the party, Mrs. Omolayo conveyed her decision to withdraw from the contest and endorse His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, as a consensus candidate. She also expressed her support for any arrangement adopted by the party in nominating its flag bearer in accordance with the law.”

The party also notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the change, which he claimed was in fulfillment of  Sections 84(9) and (11) of the Electoral Act for adopting the consensus mode of primary election.

Morka announced that a Special Nomination Congress will hold on Monday, October 27, 2025, to officially ratify the consensus candidate.

To this end, the party has constituted a 10-man Ekiti State Committee on Consensus Mode Primary to conduct the ratification exercise by 10 am at Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

Members of the Gov. Ododo-led committee include Okpebholo – Deputy Chairman and Hon. Taiwo Sunmonu will serve as Secretary.

Ododo commissions road, hospital projects in Ekiti

Kogi Governor Usman Ododo said his counterpart in Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, has demonstrated capacity, which indicates that he was well prepared to govern the State.

This, he said, continues to reflect in Oyebanji’s excellent performance across all sectors in the last three years.

Ododo posited there are verifiable and convincing evidence that Governor Oyebanji has fulfilled the social contract he signed with the people of the Ekiti State.

He spoke in Ilawe Ekiti on Tuesday while commissioning the 21- kilometre Ikere-Ilawe road and the renovated General Hospital, projects of the Governor Oyebanji administration.

Addressing the large crowd of residents that thronged the venue of the ceremony, Ododo, who was the Special Guest of Honour, applauded Oyebanji for hiring the services of local contractors to execute some of the road projects.

The Kogi Governor stated that such extreme display of leadership speaks volume of Oyebanji’s unflagging belief in the development of human resources that are available to the country.

“With what I have been briefed, this road started in 2022 through self-financing under the last administration, but could not  go far due to some difficulties. Once a leader is focused and forward looking, his vision will outlive transitions.

“With your governance and leadership in Ekiti,  you have demonstrated that government is about vision and performance. With what I have seen and the solid support you are getting from Ekiti people, it is evident that you came solidly prepared for governance.

“Even your opponent knew that you have performed well and they knew that BAO has bowed their heads with great performance. Ekiti and Kogi States do not just share common boundaries, we share a history and close ties of brotherhood and the development of our people.

“Let me assure you that all the progressive governors are behind you and I hope that you will continue with this tempo till 2030. We have the same vision, which is to serve the people and nothing more.

“I want you to remain focused and don’t be distracted by the confusion being caused by the members of the opposition. You are a quiet person, but your actions speak louder in your performance. I am proud of your achievements,” Ododo said.

Oyebanji described the completion of the road as a jinx-breaking expedition, saying whatever he has achieved in Ekiti could be hinged on the enigmatic economic reformations being carried out at the federal level by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Oyebanii stated further that his administration has not borrowed a dime to fund any of the capital projects being undertaken for the benefit of the masses. He thanked the president for making more resources available to the subnational.

“I have not borrowed a dime to fund any of the capital projects going on in Ekiti State and this is because of the audacious reforms being carried out by President Tinubu that has made more monies available to states”.

Ododo reaffirms commitment to peace as FG launches community-based peace structures in Kogi

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining peace and eliminating criminality across the state, emphasizing that ongoing efforts are focused on ridding communities of criminal elements and strengthening local security systems.

He made the declaration on Wednesday during the inauguration of the Presidential Community Engagement Peace Initiative (PCEPI) in Kogi State.

The event was organized by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central), Abiodun Essiet, who explained that the Federal Government, through the PCEPI, is establishing community-based peace structures aimed at deepening grassroots participation in peacebuilding, promoting inclusion, and complementing the work of security agencies.

The inauguration brought together over 200 stakeholders drawn from Kogi’s 21 local government areas, including traditional rulers, youth leaders, women groups, and representatives of security agencies, to strengthen collaboration in maintaining peace and social stability across the state.

Ododo urged residents to stop aiding criminals by supplying them with food and materials, stressing that such actions undermine the state’s security efforts.

“When we stop supplying them with the things they need in the bushes, the criminals will abandon their evil trade,” the governor said.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Folashade Arike-Ayoade, Ododo appealed to youths to shun crime and embrace hard work as the only path to sustainable success.

He also commended the facilitator of the initiative, the Presidential aide, Essiet, for her dedication to promoting peace and social cohesion in Kogi and across the North Centrals region.

According to Essiet in her remarks, the initiative reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to community-driven peacebuilding in line with Nigeria’s obligations under the United Nations Universal Periodic Review (UPR).

The project, ‘Promoting Community Peace and Strengthening Social Cohesion in North Central Nigeria’ according to her, is implemented in partnership with the International Communities Organisation (ICO).

“The core purpose of these structures is to strengthen the link between government and the people by creating platforms for dialogue, information sharing, and conflict resolution.

“They will serve as channels for communicating and sustaining federal interventions, ensuring that communities are informed, engaged, and involved in decisions that affect them,” Essiet said.

She explained that the initiative builds on earlier stakeholder consultations, including a capacity-building workshop in Abuja where participants analyzed insecurity trends and developed sustainable peace strategies.

The Presidential aide also noted that her office has held Citizens’ Assemblies and town hall meetings across the North Central region, including Lokoja and Idah, to gather community perspectives that have since informed federal decisions on infrastructure, human development, and security.

She disclosed ongoing collaboration with the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) to ensure peacebuilding translates into visible improvements in livelihoods, infrastructure, and community resilience.

“Building social cohesion is not a one-off event; it is a continuous journey that calls for unity, openness, and solidarity. When no one is left behind, development becomes sustainable and peace becomes lasting”, she said.

Traditional rulers, including the Ejeh of Dekina and Chairman of Dekina Traditional Council, Dr. Usman Oba’i, commended the initiative, pledging the continued support of community leaders toward sustaining peace and security across Kogi State.

Ododo: I am committed to public welfare

Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo has said that he is committed to the welfare of the people.

He flagged off a series of sweeping reforms with the launch of expanded health insurance coverage, revitalization of primary healthcare centres across the state, and new incentives for medical personnel.

Ododo described the initiatives as “a major step towards making quality healthcare accessible, affordable, and sustainable for every Kogite.” He assured that his administration remains committed to strengthening healthcare infrastructure while prioritizing the welfare of health workers.

In line with this commitment, the governor announced a N300,000 allowance for medical doctors posted to rural areas of the state to encourage service in hard-to-reach communities. He also revealed plans to sponsor the training of 100 medical doctors annually in partnership with the Federal University, Lokoja; Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba; and the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, as part of government’s long-term strategy to address manpower gaps in the health sector.

Ododo further disclosed that doctors’ quarters would be built in strategic parts of the state, while qualified Kogites would continue to benefit from new appointments into the healthcare system.

While assuring support to health professionals, the Governor stressed that security remains critical to the wellbeing of citizens. He raised concerns over the security risks posed by trailer parks at Zariagi and Osara, which, according to intelligence reports, had become hideouts for criminal elements disguised as truck drivers.

The Governor gave operators of the parks a one-month grace period to vacate the locations, after which no trailer will be allowed to park there or in any other unauthorized area of the state, particularly during hours prohibited by law. He directed security agencies to ensure full enforcement of the order, saying the measure is necessary to deny criminals any safe haven and strengthen security operations across Kogi State.

Governor Ododo expressed gratitude to development partners, including the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, CIHP, AHF, Malaria Consortium, and Marie Stopes International, for their support in improving healthcare delivery in Kogi State.

Reaffirming his administration’s focus on people-centred governance, the governor said: “Together, we are building a Kogi State where good health is a right, not a privilege; where security is guaranteed, and where every citizen has a fair chance to live, work, and prosper”.

He noted that criminals are being intercepted and decimated with the support of the Federal Government and that of the National Security Adviser.

Omodara further disclosed plans to establish a Forward Operation Base (FOB) in Egbe to address insecurity in the area, while warning local collaborators and saboteurs that government will deal with them decisively.

In his remarks, His Royal Highness, Oba Ayodele Irukera, the Elegbe of Egbe, appealed for more security presence, stressing that as a border community, Egbe is highly vulnerable to attacks.

He apologized for the recent road blockade staged by youths, describing it as a reaction to the insecurity in the area.

“It is inhuman for five people to be killed in just one day,” he said, calling for urgent measures to strengthen security in the community.

A youth representative, Engr. Olugbenga David, urged the government to carry young people along in its security strategies, and called for the deployment of more personnel, including trained forest guards, to the area.

Kogi ‘ll never experience devastating flooding, erosion again – Ododo

Gov. Ahmed Ododo of Kogi on Saturday vowed to keep the people of the state  safe by deploying the needed Infrastructure to curb impending flooding and erosion threats.

Ododo gave the assurance in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr  Kingsley Femi Fanwo, in Lokoja.

The governor said that the deployed infrastructure were designed to provide lasting solutions to ecological challenges across the state.

He said that his administration is determined to change the face of Kogi with solution-tailored infrastructure that guaranteed safety, sustainability, and improved quality of life for the people.

“Our drains are working as designed. Rainwater is being efficiently collected and channeled away, reducing the risk of flooding. Within minutes of heavy rainfall, the water is soaked away, leaving communities safe and accessible,” he said.

According to him, the government is leveraging the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project to strengthen flood control measures and reclaim land previously destroyed by ecological challenges.
