  • Landlady in court for alleged assault on lawyer

    A 45-year-old landlady, Grace Okoro, was yesterday arraigned at an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for alleged assault on a lawyer.

    Okoro, who lives at Ketu in Lagos, is facing a charge of assault.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court the accused committed the alleged offence on August 24 at her home.

    Ihiehie said the complainant, Mr Ajibo Okudilichukwu, reported the case at Alapere Police Station.

    He said the accused and her daughter harassed and fought the complainant when he went to enquire about a matter concerning his client.

    “On entering the compound, the accused and her daughter attacked the barrister, and ordered him to get out of the compound.

    “The accused bit the complainant’s hand and used her long finger nails to inflict injuries on his face, while her daughter tore his shirt,” he said.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    Magistrate E. Kubeinje granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum, and adjourned the case till November 6.

  • Suspected cultist gets N50,000 bail

    A 35-year-old man, Junior Ubah, was on Thursday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly belonging to a cult known as Eye confraternity.

    The accused is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and belonging to an unlawful society.

    Ubah, who claimed to be a clearing agent at TinCan Island Ports, Apapa, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The Prosecutor, Police Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie told the court that the offences were committed on July 30 at Fadeyi off Lagos-Ikorodu Expressway.

    Ubah and two others still at large were caught with a truck loaded with stolen excavators belonging to a Chinese company, he alleged.

    According to him, the accused, who was arrested by a police patrol team at midnight of July 30, was later taken to the Alausa Police Station,
    Ikeja.

    The offences contravened Sections 42 (9) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje granted, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    She said the sureties must show proof of means of livelihood with an evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government for two years.

    The case was adjourned until Aug. 28.

  • Applicant jailed for impregnating 12-year-old girl

    An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Monday, ordered the remand at Ikoyi prison of an unemployed, John Owika, for allegedly impregnating a 12-year-old girl.

    The Magistrate, Mrs T. Akann, who ordered the accused to be remanded in prison, adjourned the case until July 27, to await the advice of the state Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

    Owika, who resides at Mofowoku St, Alapere, in Lagos, is facing a count charge of defilement of minor, an offence that carries a 14- year prison term on conviction.
    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Mr Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the accused committed the offence at his residence sometime in April.

    Ihiehie alleged that the parents of the girl noticed some sudden changes in her behavior and walking steps which made the girl’s mother confront her daughter.
    “The girl’s mother said as she threatened her daughter with a cane she cried bitterly and confessed that the accused, who is their neighbour, has been sleeping with her and she has been having pains in her vagina.

    “She said the girl also confessed that it all started in late April when he sent her on an errand and when she came back to deliver the message, he dragged her into his flat and removed her pants.

    “The mother of the girl with tears in her eyes told the police that her daughter struggled with the man crying but all to no avail as he covered her daughters’ mouth and defiled her.

    “After having his way the girl saw blood and cleaned it herself as the accused threatened to kill her if she ever told her parents.’’

    The prosecutor alleged that since the first incident, the accused had slept with the girl at least 10 times and of each time, gave her between N200 and N500.
    He further told the court that a pregnancy test allegedly confirmed the girl to be pregnant.

    The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    Girl docked for rice, vegetable oil theft

    A sales girl, Sylvanus Blessing, who allegedly stole bags of rice and vegetable oil valued at N793, 000, was on Thursday docked before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court.

    Sylvanus, 21, who works at No. 21, Ogudu Road in Ojota area of Lagos, and resides at Ogba, is facing a charge of stealing.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Ihiehie Lucky, told the court that on December 11, the complainant, Mrs Nnamdi Francisca, owner of the shop, reported the case at Ogudu Police Station.

    Ihiehie said that the complainant discovered that her shop had been broken in and goods worth over N700, 000 were missing.

    “The sales girl has been working with the complainant for over four months and has been with the shop keys since then,’’ he said.

    Ihiehie said on December 10, the accused dropped the keys with the second sales girl and disappeared.

    In the process, the complainant discovered that many bags of rice and a gallon of grounding oil were missing during the period the accused was in charge of the shop’s keys.

    “In all, 30 bags of 50kg rice, 20 bags of 25kg of rice, 10 bags of 12 kg of rice, 15 bags of 5kg rice and 25 litres of vegetable oil were missing in the shop.

    “The total value of the items stolen in the shop is N 793, 000,’’ he said.

    The offence contravened Section 285 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

    According to reports, The accused risks seven years imprisonment upon conviction.

    The accused, has however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against her.

    The Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule Amzat, granted the accused bail of N100, 000 with two sureties, who must be gainfully employed.

    The case was adjourned until January 29, 2018.

  • Man charged for attempting to kill policeman

    Man charged for attempting to kill policeman

    A 24-year-old man, Bashiru Felix, charged with attempting to kill a policeman, Sgt. Friday Ale, while he was carrying out his lawful duty, on Friday appeared at an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
    Bashiru of Tolly- Ogudu Road, Lagos State, is facing a five-count charge bordering on attempted murder and causing grievous harm.
    Bashiru was accused of pushing a police man out of the police vehicle in motion and hitting his head hard on the ground.
    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the offence was committed on May 21 along Ogudu Road, Ojota, Lagos.
    Ihiehie said the complainant, Ale, attached to Area H, Ogudu Command, reported the matter at Ogudu Police Station.
    He said the complainant reported that on May 21 the Area H commander gave an order for raiding black spots notorious for Indian hemp, smoking, hooliganism and cultism.
    “A team of police officers were organised by the area commander to raid a black spot located at Tolly.
    “The accused, who was among those arrested, pushed Sgt. Felix Ale out of the moving vehicle in a bid to escape.
    “The officer became unconscious as he sustained grievous wound at the back of his head and some other injuries on his body.
    “The accused was later apprehended by another police officer who chased him with a motorcycle.’’
    The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
    However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
    The Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat, admitted the accused to N200, 000 bail with two reliable sureties whose addresses must be verified.
    The case was adjourned until July 5.

  • Men arraigned for robbing people of phones, N225, 000 at motor park

    Four men were on Thursday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly robbing people of phones and N225, 000 at a motor park.

    The accused — Benjamin Segun, 34; Kamoru Adeyemi, 40; Ajayi Oladele, 27; and Akanimodo Adekunle, 33 — are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Ihiehie Lucky told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 5 at New Motor Park, Ojota, Lagos.

    He said the complainants — Mohammed Ali and Olawale Kupoliyi — reported the incident at Ogudu Police Station  on April 6.

    According to him, at about 11. 00 p.m. on April 5, the complainants (a trader and a driver) were returning home when the accused waylaid them.

    “They collected a sum of N175, 000 from Mohammed Ali and 3 phones, while from they robbed Olawale Kupoluyi of N50, 000.

    “They also collected an Infinix phone valued at N25, 000, a Techno phone vaued at N9, 000, a pair of  jeans trousers and also collected the trousers he was wearing and left the scene in pants.”

    Ihiehie said the accused were arrested the following day by the Chairman of the motor park, who handed them over to the policemen on patrol.

    The offences contravened Sections 166, 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

    The four men, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The Magistrate, Mrs O.S. Amzat, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

    The case has been adjourned until June 6 for mention.

  • Father docked for assaulting nine years old daughter

    A 40-year-old father, Olawoyin Olaogun, was on Friday docked at an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for physically assaulting his daughter.

    Olaogun was brought before Magistrate Sule Aminat for beating his nine-year-old daughter mercilessly, causing her serious grievous harm.

    The prosecutor, Cpl Lucky Ihiehie, said the accused, who resides at 7, Shoyemi Maidan, Orile Mile 12, Lagos, committed the offence on March 2, at his residence.

    he News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the case was reported to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) by neighbours.

    The team coordinator, Mrs Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said that the team informed the family unit of Ketu Police Station, thus leading to the arrest of the accused.

    “According to the abused child, her father battered her because she left their door opened, thereby suspecting that a charm had been poured in his apartment by an unknown person.

    “So, he battered me severally that our neighbours had to call the attention of the team,” she said.
    The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted a N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

    Magistrate Aminat adjourned the case till March 30 for further hearing.

    NAN reports that the team had taken the child from the family to a welfare home for proper care.

     

  • Nine-year-old sent to remand home for allegedly defiling minor

    A teenager and a nine-year-old boy, who allegedly defiled a four-year-old girl, were on Thursday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

    The court has sent the accused to a remand home until next date of adjournment.

    The duo is facing a two-count charge of child defilement and indecent acts.

    According to Police Prosecutor Ihiehie Lucky, the accused committed the offence on Feb. 24, 2016 at their parents’ apartment.

    He said the complainant, Mrs Edet Mercy, who lives in the same compound with the accused, had reported the incident at Ketu Police Station.

    “The accused defiled Mercy’s daughter on Feb. 24.

    “The girl told her mother that the accused used to finger her and that it started last year.”

    The offence contravened Sections 134 and 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 134 prescribes two years for indecent acts, while Section 137 stipulates life imprisonment for child defilement.

    A large number of family members attended the proceedings presided over by the Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat.

    Both pleaded innocent of the offences.

    The magistrate granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each.

    She said one of the sureties must deposit N25, 000 into the court’s Chief Registrar’s account, while the other surety must be a blood relation of the accused and must be gainfully employed.

    Sule-Amzat ordered that the accused should be remanded at the Children Remand Home at Oregun, Lagos.

    Further hearing has been fixed for March 16.

     

  • 50- year-old man docked for defiling minor

    A security guard, Mikemon Solomon, who allegedly raped a nine-year-old girl, on Wednesday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

    Solomon, who lives on Midou Road, Mile 12,  is facing a one-count charge of defiling a child, an offence which attracts life imprisonment, if found guilty.

    The prosecutor, Ihiehie Lucky, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 3, on Aishat Street in Mile 12, Lagos.

    The victim reported the accused to her stepmother, and the victim’s brother subsequently lodged a complaint at the Ketu Police Station.

    “She said that the accused had offered her money on several occasions, but she refused to collect.

    “On March 2, she was coming from their shop and the accused offered her money again, but she refused to collect it.

    “The little girl said that when she refused, the accused held her on the neck and dragged her to a corner and raped her.

    “Blood was coming out as she went home crying, and told her stepmother, who went to report the incident to the elder brother.”

    The prosecutor said that the action of the accused contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, and the Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties.

    She said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation, adding that both sureties must deposit N20, 000 each into the Chief Registrar’s account.

    The court adjourned the case to March 27, for further hearing.
