Ogun govt assures Fusengbuwa ruling house of fair process in Awujale selection

The Ogun State government has assured the Fusengbuwa ruling house of Ijebu-Ode that it will not allow intruders or outsiders to interfere in the process of selecting the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

Speaking on Tuesday, the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Hon. Dare Alebiosu, said the Fusengbuwa ruling house has capable princes to handle its internal affairs, stressing that other ruling houses would not be allowed to meddle in the succession process.

Alebiosu gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to his office in Itoro by elders of the Fusengbuwa ruling house, including three monarchs: the Dagburewe of Idowa, Oba (Barr.) Sikiru Okuribido, the Saderiren of Isonyin-Ijebu, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Salami; and the Onirete of Irete, Oba Abdul-Ganiyu Awokoya Yusuf.

Responding to a formal request by the Fusengbuwa Olori-Ebi, Otunba Lateef Adebayo Owoyemi, for government intervention to stop other ruling houses from meddling, Alebiosu said, “Government won’t allow or encourage any unbecoming act.”

He further emphasized that Ijebu-Ode is not a “Banana republic” and pledged to convey the ruling house’s concerns to the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

Alebiosu said, “I heard you saying that some other ruling houses are trying to interfere or meddle in the affairs of Fusengbuwa or engage in some kind of smear campaign. I want to assure you that the government is on top of everything, and we won’t allow or encourage any unbecoming act; this is not a banana republic.

“And so we won’t allow anything of such to happen, I will report back to the Governor. We won’t allow any interloper; each ruling house has its turn, and now it is the turn of Fusengbuwa, so no interloper will be allowed. The Fusengbuwa has lots of capable people, so we will ensure that the right thing is done. I will study all your documents and get back to you when I am back in town.”

Speaking earlier, Olori-Ebi of Fusengbuwa ruling house, Otunba Owoyemi commended Governor Abiodun for successfully setting up an Administrative Board of highly eminent and credible Ijebu-Ode High Chiefs, to pilot and oversee the Awujale Palace affairs and responsibilities over the entire Ijebu people, pending the successful appointment and enthronement of the 59 Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebu Land.

The former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) used the avenue to passionately appeal to the government to convene an urgent meeting of three other Awujale Ruling Houses – Fidipote, Gbelegbuwa, and Anikilaya – and prevail on them to leave members of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House alone to resolve their differences by themselves.

Otunba Owoyemi said, “We would also appeal to you to please convene an urgent meeting with the leaders of the three other Awujale Ruling Houses, Fidipote, Gbelegbuwa, and Anikilaya, and request them to please leave us in Fusengbuwa Ruling House alone to resolve our differences ourselves, and they should please not continue to fan the embers of discord or promote the diabolical efforts being made to destabilize our Ruling House, by deliberately pouring fuel on the fire lit by a dissident unit, trying to undermine and destroy the entire family.

“Fusengbuwa Ruling House had never interfered in the affairs of any of the three Awujale sister Ruling Houses, and in the name of Almighty God and reverence for our noble ancestors, stop meddling in the affairs of our House, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.

“These interlopers are unwittingly setting a very bad and dangerous precedent for others to follow in the future and with clearly foreseeable disastrous consequences.”

Opposition party crying wolf after heavy fall, says Ogun govt

The Ogun State Government, on Sunday, described the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a party in disarray that cannot win any election in the state again.

The government was reacting to a statement by the opposition party, alleging rampant violence during the Federal Constituency by-election in Sagamu, Remo North, and Ikenne, and accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the Nigerian Police, and the Department of State Services (DSS) of direct assault on the democratic rights of the people.

In a statement by the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the Ogun State Government described the PDP as a party adept at crying wolf, saying that the party, by its dark antecedents of electoral fraud, violence, and suppression of people’s rights, cannot teach Nigerians democratic tenets.

“What Ogun PDP knows best is crying wolf after bringing total chaos into governance and reaping total rejection by a weary populace.

“We believe, firmly, that every suspect enjoys the presumption of innocence, but it is at least instructive to note that it was PDP leaders who were arrested for an alleged vote-buying plot on Saturday, not APC members.

The governor stated this on Sunday while addressing press at his residence in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government area of the state, adding that the celebration of the victory encompasses the reflection on the journey that heralded the victory.

He explained that the victory did not come by chance but a product of dedication, commitment , teamwork, and absolute trust in God, saying his team from the onset resolved that the election would not be an ordinary contest but an opportunity to showcase the strength of APC, the resilience of the people, and the clarity of  shared vision.

Addressing journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Sunday, Sanusi urged the Reps member – elect, Elegbeji, to remain humble in victory and embrace her co-contestants as partners in building the nation to greater height.

Ogun Govt, Daniel row over land escalates

The gulf between the Ogun State Government and former Governor Gbenga Daniel over alleged contravention of building regulations by the latter widened yesterday.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development Tunji Odunlami justified the issuance of compliance notices to 58 property owners in Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu local government areas of the state.

He said the government plans to aid urban development and control land use in public interest’ with its physical planning laws and regulations.

Odunlami told reporters yesterday at a news conference at the Olusegun Osoba Press Centre, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, that the goal of the ongoing regularization in the Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode axis is not to victimize any law-abiding citizens but to ensure that development laws are obeyed.

The commissioner said the physical planning regulations are enforceable at any time and for all time, on all developments in the state including developments that preceded the law.

But the one-time governor accused the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led of double speak and being on a vengeance mission.

Daniel argued that administration has no moral right to paste notices on people’s properties if it had not pasted same on his Iperu country home residence.

According to the former governor, Prince Abiodun’s private house built on a major federal road (Iperu- Ode Remo Road) has no setback.

He wondered why the same notices were not pasted on it “if the Dapo Abiodun-led Ogun State Government had no ulterior motive in targeting him and his properties.

He said that the Aseludero Court Hall in Sagamu was the place where Dapo Abiodun’s hand was raised up by him in the build-up to the 2019 governorship election and endorsed before a mammoth crowd of political supporters and associates, wondering why the property had just contravene building regulations six years after Abiodun came into power.

Daniel spoke yesterday at the Aseludero Hall within his Aseludero Court private residence in Sagamu through his media aide Steve Oliyide.

Oliyide spoke with reporters in the company of Akogun Kola Onadipe, a building specialist, who served as a commissioner under Daniel as governor of the state.

Insisting that the governor is “persecuting” him “politically”, the governor claimed that the people, not the governor will determine his political fate in 2027.

He was referring to his ambition to seek re-election as Ogun East senator in 2027.

According to him, the electorate have been upporting his political career since 2003.

He warned that the on-going political persecution by the governor under the guise of alleged building laws contravention, could plunge the state into “chaos” if he not properly guided.

”Does his house in Iperu, facing the Iperu – Ode – Isara Road has approved setback? That house should be demolished. If the administration had not pasted any notice of contravention on his property, it does not have moral right to demolish any property in the state”, he said.

Yesterday in Abeokuta, Odunlami said it was wrong for any property owner to create an impression that he was being deliberately targeted by the government.

He said that the notices, sent to 35 property owners in Sagamu and 23 in Ijebu-Ode council areas, are aimed at verifying the permit status of all types of developments, including houses, schools, hospitals, and other commercial buildings.

The commissioner urged Daniel, like owners of other affected properties served with such notices, to approach the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority, an agency of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, to present relevant documents in conformity with existing building laws and regulations.

He said: “It is pertinent to note that this is a daily routine and ongoing activity of this agency and is devoid of witch-hunting, and therefore not designed to harm the interests of any individual.

“It is a simple and transparent approach that is known and adopted worldwide, including in most states in Nigeria. What we are currently doing is no exception.

“This exercise has been done in Abeokuta and is now extended to Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode, where there is no fuss except this one. It is also going to be carried out in Ota and Ilaro, where we also have GRAs.”

Ogun govt threatening to demolish my private residence, others, Daniel cries out

Former Governor Senator Gbenga Daniel on Saturday raised the alarm that Governor Dapo Abiodun – led State Government has marked Asoludero Court, his private residence built in 2004 in Sagamu for demolition for allegedly contravening building regulations.

Daniel, who represents Ogun East in the 10th National Assembly, also named  Conference Hotel Sagamu built in 2013 and the Annex erected since 2015 as his other properties designated for demolition.

The structures located in Government Reservation Area (GRA) Sagamu, according to the notices were constructed without permit and adequate setback among other contraventions.

The Nation report that days after Senator Ibikunle Amosun came to power in 2011, his administration also threatened to bring those structures down for alleged contravention.

In a statement on Saturday through Steve Oliyide of the Otunba Gbenga Daniel Media Office, the former Governor described the latest step by the State Government as “political persecution” on the watch of Abiodun.

He revealed that at about 4pm on Friday, some people claiming to be agents of the government of Ogun State posted “Notices of Contravention, Quit and threats of demolition” on his residential and commercial properties in Sagamu.

Noting that the action is not an isolated incident, he alleged the latest act of persecution followed a similar pattern of illegal demolitions allegedly carried out by Abiodun’s administration, citing demolition of DATKEM Plaza Ijebu Ode, a property belonging to his wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel in the midnight of September, 2023 by thugs believed to be working on the orders of the Governor.

According to him: “We strongly condemn this latest act of political persecution by Governor Dapo Abiodun, as evidenced by the recent issuance of these Notices which were dated August 8, 2025, as a clear demonstration of the governor’s malicious and vindictive abuse of power, hiding behind a newly-enacted law retroactively to target a political opponent.

“The documents, concerning these properties cite “suspected” offenses related to construction without adequate permits (which is laughable). This is a ludicrous and flimsy excuse, as the properties in question have been in existence for many years. For instance, the Asoludero Court was built in 2004, while the Conference Hotel Sagamu was built in 2013, and the Annex since 2015. The governor’s administration is now attempting to use the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022 to demolish buildings that were legally constructed long before the law was even in existence.

“This action is not only politically motivated but also a blatant disregard for due process and the rule of law. The Notices in themselves are clear breaches of procedures which allows adequate time intervals between Notifications on contraventions, Quits and the penalties, if indeed there was any, is not a demolition or a threat of it. Governor Abiodun’s administration has completely bypassed this procedure, issuing a “Notice of Contravention” and a “Notice to Quit” simultaneously, with an immediate threat of demolition. This is not a legal process; it is a thuggish tactic designed to intimidate and inflict damage.

“It is worth noting that this is not an isolated incident. This latest act of persecution follows a similar pattern of illegal demolitions carried out by Governor Abiodun’s administration. We recall with disgust the illegal demolition of DATKEM Plaza Ijebu Ode, a property belonging to the wife of Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Yeye Olufunke Daniel in the midnight of September, 2023 by thugs believed to be working on the orders of the Governor as no government agent will be sent on such assignment at ungodly hours of the night, even on a weekend on equally flimsy excuses. The matter is currently in court, and the state has already lost several applications at the Ogun State High Court and another at the Court of Appeal in Ibadan, a clear indication that their actions lack legal merit.

“Governor Dapo Abiodun is taking political vindictiveness to a shameful and dangerous level, without any regard for extant laws or common decency. We call on all well-meaning citizens, human rights organizations, and legal bodies to stand with us in condemning this egregious abuse of power. We will not be silent in the face of this injustice and will use all legal means at our disposal to ensure that Governor Abiodun is held accountable for his lawless actions.”

However, attempts by The Nation to contact the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning for reaction have not been successful.

Strike: Our meeting with Ogun govt inconclusive, says Labour

Activities in Ogun State Government agencies – schools, local governments, hospitals and judiciary have remained paralysed for three days, as Organised Labour yesterday sustained its directive, asking workers to stay away from their duty posts.

The meeting started around 5:30pm and ended a few minutes after 9pm without any decision reached.

It should not be seen as working on the platform of someone but to initiative grow from strength to strength, that is the best way to honour him.

To avert environmental degradation and restore public sanity and hygiene, the Ogun State government has given traders at the popular Kara Market in Isheri Berger a 100-day ultimatum to relocate to the Ogere International Market along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The ultimatum, which will expire on December 31, is to allow for a phased movement as the market will cease to exist in that location. The government has plans to demolish it.

Announcing the order, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Dr Sam Olugbenga Oyeleye, said the state government is inundated with reports of unhealthy disposal of wastes and other environmental nuisances from the market as well as open defecation on the median and road setbacks, despite the provision of public toilets by the government.

The Ogun State Government, on Saturday, described as a total fabrication the claim that Governor Dapo Abiodun called Nigerians sore losers over the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest.

Rather, it said, the governor was talking about certain losers of the 2023 elections who were cashing in on the dissent of Nigerian youths to destabilize the country, adding that the chaos that greeted the protest in several parts of the country had vindicated his position.

Ibara Regeneration Scheme: You can’t resell your land, Ogun govt tells allottees

Ogun State Government has warned allotees of Ibara Regeneration Scheme not to sell their land once allocated, as doing so would defeat the purpose of the scheme.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abeokuta at the weekend, Commissioner for Housing Jagunmolu Jamiu Omoniyi said the state government intended to give the state a world-class new city that would be the pride of all.

He said the plan of the state government was to recreate Banana Island or Parkview Estates in Ogun State, with Ibara scheme as the starting point.

He said the current administration’s vision was to revolutionise housing, adding that the caveat attached to the allocation mandated allottees to start building immediately, while any attempt to resell the land would be met with revocation.

Omoniyi said: “This administration intends to create another estate that will be better than Banana Island. We want to create another Abeokuta where our sons and daughters, who live abroad, Lagos or Abuja, can find a place they can call their own, instead of sleeping in hotels whenever they visit.

“The agreement is that you will not buy the property for speculative purposes. We will not allow anyone to buy and resell the plots. As a matter of fact, 60 days from today, you must start developing your plot. If you don’t, there is an agreement under oath everyone has signed to. We will revoke the plots no matter how highly placed you are. If you deviate from the agreement, we will go ahead, revoke and reallocate to another person.”

Giving a background of the Ibara Estate, Omoniyi said 232 bungalows made up of two and three bedrooms were built at the creation of Ogun State to provide accommodation for civil servants, who were moved from Ibadan, noting that the location was chosen because of its closeness to Oke-Ilewo, where the state secretariat was located then.
