Ogun PDP to Ladi Adebutu: Stop bringing our party to disrepute

The Ogun State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has urged its 2023 governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, to desist from acts that are capable of bringing the party into disrepute.

The party, in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Saturday by the State Publicity Secretary, Austin Oniyokor, quoted the State Chairman, Dr. Sikirulai Ogundele as saying, “The Party has noted with grave concern the tension and division that have been caused by the arranged conferment of the Asiwaju of Odogbolu chieftaincy title on one of our members and the 2023 governorship candidate of our party, Ladi Adebutu, on Thursday, 31st October, 2024.

The party had advised that instead of wasting millions to procure a chieftaincy title at a time when many people in the community, like most Nigerians, could barely feed, he should have channeled such resources to some enduring and enabling initiatives.

“Although we reckon that he has taken to our advice and promised to build a skill acquisition centre for the community, it was most embarrassing to learn that the Odogbolu Alaye-in-Council, Palace Chiefs, and eminent community leaders were opposed to the arranged conferment of the Asiwaju of Odogbolu title on Hon. Adebutu and boycotted the ceremony. This, it was learnt, led to the event being held in the sitting room of the Alaye of Odogbolu, Oba Adedeji Olusegun Onagoruwa.

“Little wonder the pictures and videos that were shared only had Hon. Adebutu, his wife, and their hangers-on. The sitting room was empty as there were no kingmakers and no palace chiefs; even eminent citizens from the town boycotted the event.

Ogun PDP crisis deepens as parallel chairmen, others emerge

The crisis rocking the Ogun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Saturday as the party produced two State chairmen and other state executive members.

While the group loyal to the 2023 governorship candidate of the party, Ladi Adebutu which gathered at the Abeokuta Sports Club, produced Abayomi Tella as State Chairman, the coalition led by governorship aspirant, Chief Jimi Adebisi Lawal (JAL); the Deputy Governorship candidate, Abdulkadir Adekunle Akinlade; and the immediate past State Chairman, Dr. Sikirulai Ogundele, which held its own congress at the NeuGate Exclusive Hall, Agbeloba, Abeokuta, the state capital, produced Dr. Sikirulai Ogundele as the State Chairman.

While the Ladi group had Sunday Solarin as the State Secretary, the Lawal-led group produced Alhaji Salisu Abdulwaheed Oloruntola as the State Secretary.

Both Ogundele and Solarin were the immediate past State Chairman and State Secretary respectively. However, they now belong to opposing camps.

Also, while a journalist, Austin Oniyokor emerged as the State Publicity Secretary at the congress held by the Lawal group, the Adebutu group had Adebayo Kayode, an architect, as its Publicity Secretary.

The same situation applies to the other 36 state executive positions that make up the elected state executive officers.

This development is coming on the heels of the dispute that has dogged the Ward and Local Government Congresses held on the 31st August, 2024 and 14th September, 2024 – in the build up to the state congress.

The party held parallel ward and local government congresses across the 236 wards and 20 local government areas.

In Ogun State, there are two major factions. The one led by Adebutu and the coalition led by the trio of Lawal, Akinlade, and Ogundele.

It was gathered that in all the wards and LGAs, two sets of executives emerged for the 17 ward exco positions in all 236 wards and the 18 available Exco positions in each of the 20 local government areas

The foundation for the parallel congress was said to have been laid by the alleged refusal to use the registers authenticated by the national leadership of the party for the Ward Congress which is in favour of the Lawal-led group.

This is so because the Adebutu group refused to submit its registers to the national leadership of the party for authentication ahead of the congresses.

The authenticated registers, it was learned, consist of names of the delegates to the Ward Congress (i.e. those to vote and be voted for at the elective congress)  in line with Section 8 (10) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017).

The issue has become a subject of litigation before the Federal High Court in Abeokuta which has adjourned the matter till 15th October, 2024, for the hearing of the preliminary objection and originating summons.

The court had on Friday, warned the party against undermining the integrity of the judicial process.

Delivering a ruling in Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/134/2024 between Chief Folorunsho Iseoluwa Akande and Ors. v. PDP and Ors., the Hon. Justice Abiodun Adeyemi said, “On the issue of preserving the RES which is the major fear of the Plaintiffs, the RES in this matter is not perishable like food, nor is it irreparable like pulling down a building. The subject matter relates to party congress and the recognition of members in compliance with certain laws. I am fully aware of the powers vested in the Court to set aside any act done outside the provisions of the law. I believe it is better for the Court not to make any positive orders until the issue of Jurisdiction is settled.

  • Ogun PDP plots to regain power in 2027

Ogun PDP plots to regain power in 2027

The leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State believes it has identified what went wrong in previous elections and is ready to bounce back in the Southwest state. ERNEST NWOKOLO reports.

The Ogun State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed strong optimism that it will bounce back in 2027. Its chairman, Sikirullai Ogundele, made the remark recently, emphasising its unwavering dedication to return to ideal democratic principles. Ogundele said the party has identified why it keeps losing elections since 2011 and has also fixed the problem. He disclosed that the party is wooing past governors and credible people who left the chapter for other political parties to return home, boasting that encouraging responses were already coming from that direction.

Ogundele based his optimism on the fact that the party had been able to identify what went wrong in the previous elections. He added that it is now prepared to right the wrongs of the past. His words: “Immediately after the losses, we went back to the drawing board to ascertain why we have been losing elections. We successfully identified some facts that have been leading to those losses and now we have swung into action to put everything in order. The major factors that have been keeping credible people away from the party have been that they perceived the Ogun PDP to be in the pocket of one person, and I’m not going to mention a name, and they believe the PDP was not independent enough to create an enabling environment for them to run their ambitions. Now we are getting so many of them convinced that this party is not in the pocket of anybody any longer.

“The national organs of the PDP are in the knowledge of this perception and they have put correction to it. The party must be seen to be independent of its activities which we have successfully achieved today. We are now working on the credible people who are willing to come and rejoin PDP, and most of them are joining, including the past governors. We are working on them and we are also working on their followers to join PDP.

“The PDP was winning in 2003. We polled about 800,000 votes to win in the 2003 general elections and Otunba Gbenga Daniel emerged as the governor. In 2007, we won with nearly the same figure but when we mismanaged the disagreements, rancours, skirmishes and rows in the party when it was badly managed, people broke out to join other political parties. Out of all the parties they joined – PPN, ADC, ADP, and Labour Party among others. People like Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and Dapo Abiodun left the PDP.

“So, in 2027, we are looking forward to having these people back on board the train of PDP. We have gotten them convinced that there will be a level playing ground for them to run their ambitions and it is not going to be one person that will nominate ‘who will this, who will that’s in Ogun PDP any longer. So, that is the position we are in now. I can confidently tell you that come 2023, we are winning and the All Progressives Congress (APC) is also campaigning for us through their empty noise of no significant impacts on the lives of Nigerians and the poor handling of the economy. People are convinced that they are not voting for the APC again.”

But, to achieve its ambition, the party would have to put its house in order this time around. Today, it is embroiled in so many unresolved crises, which may rob it of the virility to play the role of a robust and credible opposition party in the state. The genesis of the crisis could be traced to the struggle for the party’s soul among its chieftains with vested interests. Although the origin of what ails Ogun PDP dates back to the build-up to the 2011 governorship election, the current crisis afflicting the party may ascribed to the grievances arising from the May 25, 2022, party primary and the toxic environment created by the idea of financing the party by a single individual or group.

While the party was in power between 2003 and 2011, getting lifelines from members in elective and appointive positions at all levels to run its affairs and retain a modicum of party supremacy was not difficult at the time but the tide changed adversely after it lost power. With its loss of power both in the state and at the centre, the burden of oiling the machinery of the party fell on individuals with deep pockets and a heart of giving but it came with a price.

As a result, the Ogun PDP allegedly became an appendage of whosoever pays its bills, sorts out its multiple court cases, caters for members’ needs and keeps them from being poached by other political parties. Financiers like the late Senator Buruji Kashamu, while alive,  allegedly used this opportunity to influence the chapter to his advantage. For instance, he influenced vital decisions of the party, such as who became members of the state executive and who ran for what office on the tickets of the party. It was on this premise that Adebutu lost out to the late senator in the tussle for the party’s 2019 governorship ticket.

With the demise of Kashamu in 2020, Adebutu renewed his ambition to govern the state and rejigged the party which had suffered so much haemorrhage on many fronts due to the exit of Kashamu. Many agree that Adebutu brought life back to Ogun PDP, and made valuable sacrifices across the 20 local government areas and three senatorial districts to reawaken members’ and supporters’ faith in the party once again. But his leadership of the party triggered another round of power tussle and division in the party, leading to the resurgence of three other separate camps –  Segun Seriki/Bamgbose, Segun Showunmi and Jimi Lawal  – all having ambitions to run for the 2023 governorship.

This set the stage for the wrangling that followed as they tried to outwit each other to clinch the governorship ticket. Three separate party primaries were held producing parallel candidates for the governorship seat, National Assembly and state house of Assembly seats even as allegations of violence and manipulation of delegates list particularly also trailed the primary that produced Adebutu as the party’s governorship candidate.

Sowunmi emerged as the factional governorship candidate of his camp, while the Seriki/Bamgbose camp equally had its separate candidates for the various elective offices. Jimi Lawal, who contested alongside Adebutu walked out halfway into the process, citing violence and manipulation of the process as reasons for his action. The party became more polarized.

However, on September 27, 2022, a Federal High court sitting in Abeokuta ruptured the hope of party members and supporters when it gave its verdict nullifying the May 25, 2022 primary and asked Adebutu to desist from parading himself as the party’s governorship candidate. It then ordered a fresh primary within 14 days to accommodate all sides. This followed the application of some aggrieved members, especially the Seriki Bamgbose camp, which approached the court for redress of the primary process, it alleged, shortchanged them.

The adverse judgment also had a vicarious effect on the party’s three senatorial candidates, nine House of Representatives candidates and 26 State House of Assembly candidates. In the ensuing confusion arising from the multiple court judgments over the May 25, 2022 primaries, Lawal’s camp conducted another primary purportedly in obedience to the court order but without authorisation by relevant organs of the party. The said primary purportedly produced Lawal as the party’s governorship candidate. This development brought the number of factional governorship candidates to four.

This led to the suspension of Lawal by the leadership of the state chapter. Also suspended were the quartet of the state financial Secretary, Bola Odunmosu, Ijebu North Local Government chairman of the PDP, Tope Ashiru, Kola Akinyemi and Bashiru Ajadi for aiding and abetting the illegal primary. that produced Lawal. The affected persons were suspended at the end of the State Working Committee (SWC) meeting of the PDP which was chaired by the Acting State Chairman, Chief Taiwo Akinlabi.

All hopes of bouncing back to power were dashed for the chapter when the Supreme Court sitting in Abuja on January 19 dismissed the appeal by the party’s governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, seeking to upturn last year’s re-election of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

It was a fiercely contested election and the PDP was hoping to return to power,

12 years after it was dislodged by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Governor Abiodun of the APC winner of the election, which had Adebutu and Olubiyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the closest challengers.

At the end of the election, Abiodun and Adebutu were separated by 13,915 votes. The APC flag bearer polled 276,298, the PDP’s Adebutu 262,383 votes. while Otegbeye of the ADC recorded 94,754 votes. But Adebutu, who was not pleased with the declared results, kicked against it. He claimed that he won the election and took exception to the cancellation of results in 54 polling units spread across Remo North, Sagamu, Ifo, Abeokuta South, Egbado South and Ado/Odo/Ota local governments, describing it as “disenfranchising of the electorate” in his strongholds by the INEC.

It was on the strength of the alleged injustice of results cancellation in 54 polling units and other issues that, Adebutu and PDP approached the state Governorship Election Petition Tribunal to challenge Abiodun’s election to reclaim what he described as the mandate freely given to him by the electorate. But the former federal lawmaker lost the battle at the Tribunal. Not satisfied, he proceeded to the Appeal Court in Ibadan to challenge the judgment of the Tribunal affirming the victory of the governor and lost again.

Still not satisfied, Adebutu headed for the Supreme Court. He had hopes that the outcome at the apex court would be favourable. His expectations received a further boost with the outcome of the governorship appeal at the Supreme Court concerning Kano State where the verdict at the apex court nullified the concurrent decisions of the two lower courts, which earlier sacked Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

But, such expectations did not come to pass. The implication is that the PDP has more work to do to displace the APC in the Southwest. For eight years when the party held sway in the state between 2003 and May 28, 2011, it was the political party to beat and its candidates at the time were the envies of other politicians but all that was lost when the progressives under the banner of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) sacked it and took over power in 2011 and has remained in power till date.

This was followed by a gradual exit of members of the party (PDP),  as they joined the ruling party. Some of her notable political stars who could revive it to sanity, harmony and power have either passed away or said bye-bye to partisan politics.

  • ‘People are deserting Ogun PDP’

    ‘People are deserting Ogun PDP’

The former Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Bayo Dayo, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He explained why people are deserting the party in the Gateway State.

The event which  held at St. Mathew’s Anglican Primary School, Ward 3, Ojowo Ijebu-Igbo, in Ijebu North Local Government had in attendance chieftains of the All Progressives Congress in the state, led by the Secretary to the State Government,  Tokunbo Talabi who represented the Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Others were  member of House of Representatives for Ijebu East/Ijebu North/Ogun Waterside Constituency,  Adegbesan,

Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Alhaji Ademola Balogun, former Deputy Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly,  Tokunbo Oshin and Chief Laide Osifeso.

The Secretary to the Government, Talabi, disclosed that having Engr Bayo Dayo joined the ruling party is a big plus for the party in Ijebu North Local Government and the state at large.

Talabi said: “Engr. Dayo’s political capacity and prowess is huge. He is the type of politician whose experience cannot be wished away or underestimated. He has been in the game for a very long time.

“He is a politician that I have known for a very long time, he is a firm believer in the use of politics as an instrument to serve and make good difference in the lives of the people.

“We are happy to have Engr Bayo Dayo and his supporters in APC and we believe that this will mark the beginning of many great things to come for the party and the state in this new year”.

On why he decided to abandon his former party, Dayo said he could no longer afford to stay in a party that has thrown discipline to the pigs.

He said: “PDP is now a party of no discipline where five governors  are putting their legs in many political parties without caution. I no longer want to be a member of such party where the leaders cannot discipline themselves”.

Dayo described his defection as a reunion with his old political allies, explaining that he had actually known Gov Dapo Abiodun for a very long time.

He said: “God is reuniting us today with our brothers and sisters in APC many of whom we have been together for many years including our Governor, Dapo Abiodun.

“I am a grassrooots politician and that is why I said  this defection  will hold at my Ward 3, Ijebu Igbo and not Abeokuta or anywhere. I understand the dynamics of politics clearly, I have been in PDP for over 25 years but I must say that I have been very well impressed with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the government of Gov Abiodun.

“President Tinubu is the most experienced politician to lead us and the only President that is investigating his own minister, he is really making the southern part of Nigeria very proud.

“Gov Abiodun too has been committed to efforts that are geared towards making life more comfortable for the residents. For instance, Gov Abiodun constructed the Ilisan-Ago Iwoye that was abandoned for over 10 years, likewise Molusi road among other good works he is doing across the state.

“I didn’t inform anybody when I joined PDP, I have nobody to inform if I am crossing to the ruling party, I am old enough to decide on my next move politically and like I said I can’t continue to stay in a party that no longer cares about discipline

“I am here with four ward chairmen of PDP in Ijebu Igbo among other chieftains of the party because they see the quality in me and I am sure we wouldn’t regret this step, my followers are with me anytime and we are here in APC to join hands with Gov. Abiodun in taking Ogun State to higher ground”, he said.

  • Ogun PDP faction adopts Akinlade

Hon. Ladi Adebutu faction of the People’s Democratic Party ( PDP ) on Thursday afternoon adopted Hon. Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) as its governorship candidate for the Saturday gubernatorial election in Ogun state.

The deal was sealed at the Park Inn, Abeokuta, the state capital, with the factional Chairman of PDP in the State, Hon. Sikirullai Ogundele.

Ogundele told reporters that the faction found Akinlade more credible and competent to govern the state than other contestants.

  • Appeal Court ruling: I remain PDP’s Ogun candidate – Kashamu

The Senator representing Ogun East Chief Buruji Kashamu on Thursday dismissed media reports that he had been ousted as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.

Kashamu said he remains the party’s candidate despite a December 18 judgment of the Court of Appeal in Ibadan, which set aside an order by the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, that was favourable to Kashamu’s faction of the party.

The lawmaker added that he had appealed the judgment because of his belief that the appellate court erred.

Reacting immediately after Tuesday’s judgment Kashamu’s counsel, Ifeoma Esom, said: “His (Kashamu’s) candidature is predicated on the judgment of Justice I. N. Buba of the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court. That judgment is still subsisting and there is no appeal whatsoever against that judgment.”

During an interaction with journalists on Thursday, Kashamu added: “The Court of Appeal said in its judgment that the matter before it was not a pre-election matter.

“Hence, it could not have pronounced on the nomination of candidates, let alone sacking me or anyone for that matter.

“That was not the prayers of the PDP and its officers who are the appellants in the matter and so such a prayer could not have been granted.”

He explained that some people had “erroneously said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) accepted our list of candidates for the 2019 general election based on the interlocutory orders of the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, which have now been set aside, then our nomination as candidates of the Ogun State PDP has been nullified.

“That cannot be true because the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court had in a full and final judgment delivered on the 24th of June, 2016.

“Not satisfied, the other group appealed. On the 4th of May, 2017, the appeal was dismissed.

“Still not satisfied, they asked the Court of Appeal to relist the appeal.

“Again, on the 11th of July, 2018, the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal in a well-considered ruling held that the appeal remained dismissed.

“It is the refusal by the Court of Appeal to relist the appeal that is now pending at the Supreme Court.”
According to him, the two orders granted by the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, in Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/114/2018 were made in a judgment enforcement proceedings.

“The first was in relation to the National Convention held between October 5 and 6, 2018. The second order was for INEC to accept, process and publish our list of candidates for the 2019 general election. “Clearly, the request to set aside the orders of the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, has been overtaken by events.

“The National Convention has come and gone. INEC has also complied with the orders of court and the subsisting judgments.
“So, how does the decision setting aside the orders of the Federal High Court affect us?”

He noted that INEC, “has since communicated its decision to recognize and deal ONLY with the Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led Ogun State PDP Exco to the national leadership of our party.

“In the 25th of October, 2018 letter written by the INEC, it was emphatically stated that its decision to accept the list of candidates submitted by the Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led Exco was predicated on three court suits, namely FHC/L/CS/636/2016, FHC/L/CS/1556/2017 and FHC/AB/CS/114/2018. It is only the interlocutory orders in FHC/AB/CS/114/2018 that were set aside.

“The full and final judgments in FHC/L/CS/636/2016 and FHC/L/CS/1556/2017 in favour of the Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led Ogun State PDP Exco which are yet to be set aside. “It should also be pointed out that based on the judgments in FHC/L/CS/636/2016 and FHC/L/CS/1556/2017 in favour of the Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led Ogun State PDP Exco, INEC had in an earlier letter dated 12th April, 2018, informed the PDP of the commission’s compliance with the two judgments of the Federal High Court.”

Kashamu took a swipe at the PDP national headquarters for taking sides in the internal crisis in Ogun State chapter of the party.

According to him, what the party should have done was to mediate between the feuding parties with a view to finding a lasting solution to the crisis.

He said if the party was interested in winning in the state, it should be seen trying to bring the feuding parties together rather than taking sides with one against the other.

  • ‘Court of Appeal didn’t declare Adebutu Ogun PDP guber candidate’

The Kashamu/Abati Campaign Organisation in Ogun State has said that the judgment of the Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Tuesday did not declare Hon Oladipupo Adebutu as the governorship candidate of the PDP in Ogun State.

A statement issued by the campaign organization in response to the judgment said contrary to the “ false news being spread by our opponents, the Court of Appeal did not declare Honourable Oladipupo Adebutu or anyone for that matter as the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.”

“ That was not the prayers of PDP who are the appellants in the matter and so such a prayer could not have been granted, said Austin Oniyokor, the campaign organisation’s spokesman.

The Court according to him, specifically held that it was not a pre-election matter where the nomination of candidates is in issue since the matter was filed by the Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led Ogun State PDP and not aspirants.

“Having held that it was not a pre-election matter, the Court of Appeal could not have made a pronouncement on the validity or otherwise of the nomination of candidates for the 2019 general election.

“What is more, the 25th of October, 2018 letter written by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) emphatically stated that its decision to accept the list of candidates submitted by the Engr.

Adebayo Dayo-led Ogun State PDP Exco which are yet to be set aside and do not have any subsisting appeals against them still remain.

“It should also be pointed out that based on the judgments in FHC/L/CS/636/2016 and FHC/L/CS/1556/2017 in favour of the Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led Ogun State PDP Exco, INEC had in an earlier letter dated 12th April, 2018, informed the PDP of the commission’s compliance with the two judgments of the Federal High Court.

“The extant judgment of the Court of Appeal in this appeal does not finally determine the matter. That is why it ordered that the case file should be returned to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for reassignment of the case to another judge who will hear and determine the originating summons.

“Flowing from the above, we wish to reassure our teeming supporters, party leaders and elders, friends and associates that nothing has changed. The nomination of Senator Buruji Kashamu and all other candidates of the Ogun State PDP based on the valid and subsisting judgments mentioned above has not changed.

“Finally, our lawyers have taken steps to immediately appeal the judgment of the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court.’”

  • Breaking: Appeal Court sacks Kashamu, others as Ogun PDP candidates

The Ibadan Division of the Appeal Court, on Tuesday December 18, 2018 sacked Senator Buruji Kashamu and other ‘candidates’ in the Adebayo Dayo-led faction of the Ogun State PDP.

The three-man appeal panel set aside the judgment of a Federal High Court in Abeokuta which threw up Kashamu and his factional members as the authentic PDP candidates.

The panel headed by Justice A. B. Bada, resolved the four issues raised for determination in the appeal in favour of the PDP, saying the appellants were not properly served in the case at the lower court which breached their rights to fair hearing.

Both Justices Bada and N. Okoronkwo agreed with Justice H. S. Samani who read the lead judgment.

The judgment is expected to have removed the cloud over governorship candidates of Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu and the National Assembly and Ogun State House of Assembly candidates for the 2019 election.

The PDP had dragged the Adedayo Bayo-led faction to the appellate court to challenge the lower court judgment which threw up its candidates.

They prayed the court to set aside the judgment on the grounds that they were not properly served before judgment was delivered and that the lower court judge was wrong in his judgment.

  • Ogun PDP crisis deepens

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Friday, in Abuja, presented Ladi Adebutu with the symbolic party flag, to enable him contest the Ogun State governorship election on the party’s platform.

The party leadership also presented similar flags to Jimi Agbaje to fly the PDP governorship flag in Lagos State, while Seyi Makinde was also presented with the flag for the Oyo State governorship contest.

While presenting the flags to the candidates, the national chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, said the party had submitted Adebutu’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as required by law.

Secondus declared Adebutu as the party’s authentic governorship candidate for Ogun State.

Responding to the development, Buruji, who was recently recognised by INEC as the party’s governorship candidate in the state based on the a ruling by a Federal High Court, said that Secondus should be held responsible “for breach of public peace and safety should there be a breakdown of law and order in Ogun State” in the build up to the 2019 general election.

The Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, urged the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, the  Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), Yusuf Magaji Bichi, to take cognizance of Secondus’ conduct which, according to him, is capable of causing tension and a breach of public peace.

Kashamu spoke in a statement he issued at the weekend following the presentation of the Ogun State PDP governorship flag to a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, in Abuja, on Friday.

He said the AGF, IGP and DG, SSS should refuse the temptation to allow “some misguided politicians” to take the laws into their hands and continue to act contemptuously of valid and subsisting court orders and judgements while hiding under the cloak of politics and politicking.

The lawmaker noted that ,”The desperation showed by Secondus is only typical of a mercenary who is hell-bent on delivering on the job he has been paid to do. His latest action was done in utter disregard to the Party’s Constitution and subsisting judgment of courts – from the High Court to the Supreme Court – which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has since complied with.

“It is a sad commentary on our democratic institutions that the National Chairman of our Party, Prince Uche Secondus, could preside over such a disgraceful exercise because he could not do it at the South-West zonal rally held on Thursday seeing the trouble such an illegal act could have caused. The shame is on Secondus and his co-travellers because they had to run to Abuja where they purportedly presented the Party’s flag to the impostor in an office whereas such an event is usually done openly and with fanfare.

“What is more, even if PDP presents 10,000 flags to Adebutu, it does not change the fact that the courts have pronounced the Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led Ogun State PDP Exco as the only party structure recognized by the law in Ogun State. It is merely ceremonial. It does not change the lists of candidates accepted, processed and published by INEC. It cannot change the verdicts of the High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.  It cannot also change the wide acceptance of our aspiration by the good people of Ogun State and beyond.”
