    Ogun Police arrest motorcycle rider conveying wife’s corpse in sack

    The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a motorcycle rider conveying his wife’s remains in a sack.

    According to the Public relations Officer of the command, Omolola Odutola, a Chief Superintendent of Police (DSP), the suspect, Godonu Lowe, a native of Omolende Village via Idogo, was arrested at about 1 pm on Wednesday while ferrying the body out of the community on a motorcycle.

    He said the Divisional Police Officer in Ilaro had received credible information that Lowe was about to take the corpse out of the community, following which the police acted swiftly and intercepted the suspect, and a sack tied to the back of his motorcycle was untied.

    The content was then discovered to be the corpse of an adult female later identified as his wife.

    Odutola said the body bore marks of violence and bleeding around the neck, suggesting a foul play.

    “A blood-stained cutlass was recovered at the crime scene. The prime suspect was taken into custody while the remains of the victim have been evacuated to the State Morgue in Ilaro for preservation and autopsy,” he added.

    Commending the anonymous informant, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to help the force in crime prevention and detection.

    He emphasised that even the slightest suspicion reported to the police could save lives.

    Ogun police arrest 2 Cameroonians for alleged kidnapping, human trafficking

    The Ogun Police Command has arrested two members of a Cameroonian human trafficking syndicate allegedly involved in luring and kidnapping unsuspecting victims under the pretext of visa processing.

    Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Friday.

    Odutola said the suspects, identified as Ndzana Kamga Isidore and Tingue Stephen, were apprehended by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit at Mowe.

    She said they were arrested following a distress call from a Cameroonian victim who escaped captivity.

    She explained further that the victim was deceived from Cameroon into Nigeria on Sept. 29 by one Donald, who is also a Cameroonian, and promised to help her secure a Canadian visa.

    “Upon her arrival at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, she and her 23-year-old sister were taken to  Mowe area in Ogun  where they were held hostage.

    “Following credible intelligence, our tactical team stormed the criminal hideout at Pakuro, Mowe, and rescued one victim, Kengne Maeva, unhurt.

    “Two suspects were arrested at the scene, while the principal suspect, Donald, is currently at large,” said Odutola.

    According to her, preliminary investigation revealed that the victims’ family members had paid a ransom of 3.6million CFA Francs into the bank account of the fleeing suspect, Donald.

    According to her, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered sustained surveillance on similar criminal trends and directed tactical commanders to collaborate with community leaders and development associations to report suspicious foreign nationals renting apartments.

    Odutola reiterated that the Ogun Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and will continue to ensure that criminals find no hiding place in the state.

    Ogun Police arrest alleged fake police officer

    The Police in Ogun, has arrested a 52-year-old man, identified as Harry Collins, for impersonating as a police officer, on the Long bridge, Warewa, in the state.

    A statement by the spokesperson of Ogun Police Command on Saturday in Abeokuta, Omolola.Odutola said the suspect was arrested fully dressed in  police uniform with a sergeant rank.

    Odutola said the suspect was apprehended on Feb.20, about 2:10 p.m. during a reconnaissance patrol led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations..

    “The patrol team became suspicious of suspect’s presence on the  bridge and conducted an immediate arrest,” she said.

    Odutola said upon interrogation, Collins was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for his impersonation as this raised suspicion about his activities.

    She further said investigations were ongoing to determine his motives and any potential criminal involvement.

    “The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation; the Police Command in Ogun State further warn the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individual,” she said.

    Ogun Police worried over missing persons

    There is a surge in the reports of missing individuals across all age groups in Ogun, the State Police Command alerted yesterday.

    The Command also expressed grave concern that while only a small fraction of these missing individuals are located, a significant number regrettably do not return home.

    It however assured that proactive steps were being taking to step up public awareness about the disturbing trend which it described as unprecedented.

    The Command urged residents to prioritise their safety by maintaining a heightened sense of security to avoid falling victims.

    Command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Omolola Odutola, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) who raised the alarm, stated that the Commissioner of Police, (CP) Lanre Ogunlowo, has outlined measures to keep the residents informed about this pressing issue.

    CSP Odutola stated that following insights gained from rescued individuals, the command advised parents to refrain from using commercial transportation services for their children with unfamiliar persons.

    Ogun police rescue three Indians, one Nigerian

    The Ogun State Police Command has rescued three Indians, and a Nigerian identified as Ola. 

    The four were abducted last Sunday night, near Delabo Junction by unidentified armed men riding in an unmarked Toyota Venza who accosted the victims who were riding in a grey Toyota Rav 4 jeep with registration number AGL 16 JE.

    It was learnt that the armed men fired four shots at the driver’s side tyre and another at the rear side of the driver, forcing the vehicle to stop. Thereafter, they abducted the occupants and fled towards Ijebu-Ode.

    Commissioner of Police for Ogun State (CP), Abiodun Alamutu, who broke the news yesterday, at a briefing at the Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, said through a covert operation, the gunmen were located in a bush at Ogere and in the ensuing gun battle, the squad eliminated two of the gunmen while others escaped with injuries.

    Alamutu said items recovered were 109 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, five AK-47 rifles, eight AK-47 magazines and two cell phones.

    “The anti-kidnapping squad’s superior firepower led to the elimination of two suspects, while the remaining criminals escaped with injuries, leaving behind their weapons. The victims, later identified as one Nigerian and three Indian nationals, were safely rescued unharmed and reunited with their families.’’

    “Recovered items include 109 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, five must AK 47 rifles, eight AK-47 magazines and two cell phones.

    “The Ogun State Police Command remains dedicated to safeguarding lives and property, a primary duty for us. A rapid response team has been deployed to enhance security along the Sagamu-Benin route. We encourage the public to report individuals displaying gunshot wounds under reasonable suspicions,” he said.

  • Ogun Police launch ‘Operation Puff Adder’

    To ensure adequate security of lives and property in the State, the Commissioner of Police (CP) in Ogun State, Bashir Makama has launched ‘Operation Puff Adder’.

    The launch of the special crime combat operation is in line with the operational directive of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu towards ensuring adequate security across the country.

    The commissioner said the police  in the state will not tolerate any form of breakdown of law and order in the state.

    He said the operation became necessary in order to assure investors of safe environment to operate and invest in Ogun State.

    Makama warned policemen in the State to exhibit professionalism when carrying out their duties and warned that he would not condone any act of indiscipline.

    He noted that cultism, ritual killings and kidnapping are some of the major crimes in the State.

    The police boss assured residents that the new special operation would reduce crimes to its barest minimum and warned those planning to engage in criminal activities to desist from it.

  • Ogun Police dismiss 19 officers, demote nine others

    Ogun State Police Command yesterday disclosed that five inspectors, seven sergeants and seven corporals serving in the state were dismissed between July 2016 and June this year for various offences.

    It added that two Inspectors, five sergeants and two corporals were demoted in ranks, while 11 others were seriously reprimanded within the same period.

    The Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, who made this known while briefing reporters at the command’s headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on successes recorded in crime fighting and prevention, also revealed that four officers had been arraigned in court after dismissal.

    Iliyasu said the disciplinary measures were taken against the affected officers to impress it further in the consciousness of people that “no erring police man will ever go unpunished”

    Iliyasu also paraded 25 crime suspects -including Muritala Babatunde and Taiwo Rasaq who allegedly bludgeoned two undergraduate students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago – Iwoye on June 1, 2018, and buried them in a bush near Oru.

    Also paraded was Prophet  Akinlalu David, who contracted another prophet, Idowu Alabi; Friday Salako and Nesto Fashehun to help him use his 13 year – old son, Peter Akinlalu, for money rituals in order to overcome financial challenges buffeting him in the last couple of years.

    Items recovered from some of the suspects are: 15 Pump Action Guns, four AK 47 riffles, local shot guns and live cartridges.

    The police yesterday said adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure Nigerians enjoyed hitch-free Sallah holiday.

    This is just as they warned miscreants, criminal elements to repent or be apprehended.

    Lagos Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal said the command would embark on a show of force today to reassure residents of its readiness to confront criminals.

    Noting that the exercise would begin 6am and end 4pm, Edgal said it was designed to send a clear warning to criminal elements that the police and sister agencies would give no room for evil and anti-social acts.

    “The operation is to assure residents of the readiness of the command to provide adequate security throughout the Sallah holiday and beyond.

    “Members of the public are advised not to panic when they see policemen marching through their streets with security assets. The operation is not to cause fear or intimidation. Any inconvenience caused by this operation is not intended.  We seek the cooperation of residents while the activity lasts.”

    His Ogun State counterpart Ahmed Iliyasu has directed the deployment of elaborate tactical and undercover detectives to strategic places across the state with the mandate to stop person(s) who would want to cause panic, fear.

    According to the Commissioner, specialised units have also been put on alert to contain any violent crime, adding that he has directed 24-hour surveillance at all prayer grounds, recreational facilities in the state.

    Fleeing notorious robber killed in Ogun

    A fleeing member of a robbery gang who shot and injured the former Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogbere Division, Mr. Adeyinka Akingbade, was shot dead on Christmas Day during a gun duel with policemen in Ijebu – Ife, Ogun State.

    The suspect, who fled to Delta State after shooting Adeyinka, was placed on the wanted list of the Ogun State Police Command.

    The former DPO was shot and gravely injured by the gang during one of their robbery operations at Itele- Ijebu where policemen had gone to engage them in gun duel.

    The injured officer is still recuperating at an undisclosed hospital in Ogun State.

    The state police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a statement that police got a tip – off that the suspect was sighted in a drinking joint in Ijebu – Ife but on getting to the location, he had left.

    Abimbola added that further search led the police to his house where he was shot dead during gun duel between him and policemen.

    “Luck, however, ran on him on Christmas day when police operatives received information that he was sighted in a beer parlour at Itawade area of Ijebu Ife.

    “Upon the information, the policemen swiftly moved to the place, but before getting there, he had left the place.

    “He was however traced to his in- law house where the police operatives caught up with him. Having realized that the game is up, he brought out a pistol and started firing at the policemen.

    “The operatives were left with no other alternative than to fire back consequence upon which he was shot dead.

    “Recovered from him are a locally made pistol, a matchet, assorted charms and a Toyota Highlander jeep with two different registration numbers,” he stated.

    Police kill five suspected kidnappers in Ogun, rescue victim

    The Ogun State Police Command said on Wednesday that five suspected kidnappers were shot dead on Tuesday night during a failed attempt to collect N100 million ransom.

    The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this while parading the corpses of the suspected kidnappers at the Egba Owode Divisional Police Headquarters in Obafemi-Owode local government area of the state.

    Oyeyemi said the kidnappers had engaged the police in a gun duel during the rescue of the victim who had been in captivity for five days.

    He said the suspects on Friday waylaid the victim, dragged him out of his car at gun point and took him to a forest where they kept him for five days.

    The spokesman said the kidnappers contacted the victim’s family and demanded the sum of N100 million.

    Following the development, he said the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ilyasu, gave a marching order for the victim’s rescue and the arrest of the suspects.

    He said the police raided the gang’s hideout in the forest, adding that five suspects died in the ensuing shootout while one escaped with bullet wounds.

    Oyeyemi, however, said the fleeing gang member would soon be arrested.

    The victim, Stephen Adesokan, said he was driving on the Ajura-Ogere road in Obafemi-Owode local government area when the suspects accosted him.

    Adesokan, the orderly to the Divisional Police Officer of Ibara Divisional Police Headquarters in Abeokuta, was full of gratitude to God and the command for rescuing him.

    “The bandits emerged from a nearby bush and at gun point forced me out of the car.

    “They led me into a bush and we started trekking for about an hour.

    “They later declared to me that they were kidnappers and ordered me to speak to my family through the phone that I am in their custody.

    “They took the phone from me and spoke with my family demanding for N100 million before I could regain my freedom.

    “Failure to pay, they said, would result in my death,” he said.
