  • 11 arrested for cultism in Ogun

    At least 11 persons, including three females, suspected to be members of a cult group have been arrested by the police in Ogun State.

    The suspects, said to be responsible for the reign of terror in Ijeja area of the state, were rounded up in their hideout while planning to launch another attack on the neighbourhood.

    The suspects are – Abayomi Agbefolaju (25), Alaba Ayoade (17), Olamide Abdul Rasheed, Hakeem Ayoola (21), Olaoye Gbolahan 21) and  Adebayo Julius (21).

    Others are – Taiwo Sodiq (22), Teniola Imoleayo (22), Miss Adesina Aminat (20), Miss Seun Odemuyiwa (18) and Miss Kehinde Adunoye (18).

    The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspects were arrested last Sunday and listed one UTC axe, one UTC cutlass, some blue berets, charms and other dangerous weapons as items recovered from them.

    According to Abimbola, the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed that the suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for investigation and prosecution.

    THE police in Ogun State have arrested a cemetery worker, Oluwatoyosi Akorede with two human skulls.

    Akorede, an attendant at Ayepe Cemetery, was arrested on Sunday night at Isale Oko in Sagamu by a patrol team, led by Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Moses Aduroja.

    It was gathered the suspect may have got the skulls by exhuming bodies.

    The Nation learnt he confessed the items were for a ritual.

    Police spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi said Akorede was being interrogated.

    “The Commissioner of Police Ahmed Iliyasu has directed that the suspect be transferred to the command headquarters, Eleweran in Abeokuta for further investigation,” Oyeyemi said.

    The police have arrested two suspects, Ademola Oladunjoye and Olawale Idowu, who attacked and robbed a woman on Ilogbo Road at Otta, Ogun State on Democracy Day.

    The suspects were apprehended by police operatives attached to the Quick Respond Squad at Otta Area Police Command, who responded to a distress call.

    Police spokesman in Ogun State Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed this, said the operatives recovered one Sterling SMG rifle and one cut-to-size double-barrel gun with various calibre of ammunition from the suspects.

    Adejobi added that a Toyota Camry car marked LAGOS KTU 808 AS was recovered from them.

    According to him, other members of the gang escaped with one Honda Pilot SUV with Registration number LKJ 621 EA.

    Other items recovered from the robbers include charms, mobile phones and clothes.

    Also, police operatives attached to Agbado Division of the command foiled a robbery attack on Church Street in Agbado area of Ifo on Democracy Day after a gun duel with suspected bandits.

    The suspects managed to escape with bullet wounds, but two cut-to-size guns with ammunition were recovered from the site.

    Police Commissioner Abdulmajid Ali appealed to healthcare providers – orthodox and traditional – and the public to look out for people with bullet wounds and the stolen Honda Pilot with which the fleeing members of the robbery gang escaped.

    According to Ali, they should assist with information that could help the police in arrest of the suspects and recovery of stolen vehicle.

  • Anisulowo: Police offer N5m reward to informants

    The Ogun State Police Command on Monday pledged N5 million reward to anyone with information on the abduction of Senator Iyabo Anisulowo.

    Anisulowo, a former minister was abducted last week at Sawonjo/Iganokoto area of the state.

    A statement signed by the state command’s spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), urged the informant to either contact the state Police Commissioner, Abdulmajid Ali; the spokesman, Adejobi or the officer in charge of Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), Gbenga Megbope.

    He said: “The Ogun State Police Command has offered N5 million reward to any informant(s)  who has useful information for the police on the kidnap of Senator Iyabo Anisulowo.

    “The Commissioner of Police Ogun State, CP Abdulmajid Ali, made this declaration on Monday in Abeokuta after a security meeting with some officers of the command and security chiefs.

    “Other security chiefs at the meeting included the Commander 35 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army, Alamala, Abeokuta, Brig. Gen. S. Danwalis and Director, Department of State Service, Ogun State, Kabir Sanni.

    “The Commissioner of Police appeals to the public for support by providing useful information that can assist in the rescue of the kidnapped victim.

    “Anyone with reliable information can get across to the Commissioner of Police Ogun State, CP Abdulmajid Ali, on 09020911911;  PPRO Ogun State, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi on 08081774631; officer in charge of SARS,  CSP Gbenga Megbope on 08081766937, or any security  agency around.

    “CP Abdulmajid Ali assures any informant of adequate confidentiality and security as every information on this will be made confidential.”

     

  • Anisulowo: Police deploy ICT experts for rescue operation

    Three days after the abduction of former Minister of State for Education, Senator Iyabode Anisulowo, by gunmen, police in Ogun State moved Information and Communication Technology (ICT) experts to Ilaro, the headquarters of Yewa South local government area of the state to track down the kidnappers and rescue the ex-minister unhurt.

    Senator Anisulowo was kidnapped by gunmen on Wednesday along Sawonjo/Iganokoto Road in Yewa area of Ogun State and her whereabouts had remained unknown.

    Governor Ibikunle Amosun on Thursday visited the Ilaro home of the Anisulowos and assured that the ex-minister would be found and rescued unhurt.

    The state police command said on Friday morning that the state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, ICT experts and other senior police officers have relocated to Ilaro for the rescue operation.

    Ogun police recover murdered boy’s head

    The Police in Ogun State have recovered the head of a two-year-old boy, who was killed on April 12 in Mowe, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.
    Bashir Ibrahim allegedly raped the boy’s mother and murdered the boy, running away with his head.
    He was arrested in Mowe on April 16.
    Police spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi said Ibrahim confessed to the crime, but did not say what he wanted to do with the boy’s head.
    Adejobi said, on Tuesday, Ibrahim took the police to a bush in Mokola, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where the boy’s head, wrapped in a bag, was recovered.
    The Adatan Police Division has arrested four suspects in connection with the murder of a suspected mentally-ill man, Kazeem Akindele (35).
    Akindele was murdered on Tuesday by a mob on Onikola Street in Abeokuta for allegedly attempting to kidnap a 19-year-old woman.
    Fausat Ogunbiyi, Mariam Yahaya, Blessing Joseph and Nurudeen Adebayo were said to be part of the mob.
    Adejobi said the suspects would be charged to court soon and warned the people against jungle justice.

    Ogun police arrest 21 robbery suspects, recover 22 vehicles

    The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police yesterday said it has arrested 21 robbery suspects and recovered no fewer than 22 vehicles.

    The long haul of the robbery suspects was achieved by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Command.

    The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), who made this known to reporters, said the suspects and vehicles were at the SARS office, Magbon, Abeokuta, adding that some of the suspects have confessed to committing the crime.

    The Police Image maker also said four other robbery suspects were killed last Wednesday at Ija-Ofa area of Abeokuta while the gang were attempting rob a businessman of the sum of N5million. He said pistol, cartridges, pump action rifle, AK 47 rifle and charms were recovered from the suspects.

    Adejobi said: “Ogun Police Command will not relent in its effort to make the state crime free. All the formations in the command are working round the clock to ensure the safety of the people of the state, especially this ember months.

    “The arrest of these robbery suspects is a signal that the state is battle-ready to deal decisively with criminals who want to make the state their hideouts.”
