    • Kaduna, Jigawa governors: it’s uncalled for

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and the Ohanaeze Ndigbo yesterday dissociated themselves from the protest being planned by some shadowy groups.

Also yesterday Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani cautioned North’s youths to shun call for protest.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), however, urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address grievances being expressed by those planning the protest.

ACF National Chairman Mamman Mike Osuman said the indices that track human progress, including poverty, illiteracy, health, and security of life and property, tend to place the North at the back.

He dissociated the group from the proposed protest,  saying that it is ill-timed and counter-productive.

Osuman said: “We at ACF remain committed to articulating and defending the interests of the peoples of the North through our various activities. One such was the recently constituted Technical Committee that reviewed the 1999 Constitution (as amended) by the ACF.

“The report of the Technical Committee formed the basis of ACF’s submission to the joint committees of the National Assembly on Constitution review. Our input will be formally made available to the Northern Governors’ Forum.”

The ACF chair spoke during a meeting with the Kaduna State governor.

Sani urged Northerners to shun what he described as toxic politics and join hands to pull the region back from the brink.

The governor advised them to reflect on  insecurity, which has retarded regional development, instead of embarking on protest.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, pan-Igbo socio-cultural group, maintained that the people of Southeast will not participate in the protest.

    Ohanaeze: Igbo won’t join protest

Ohanaeze said in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, that Nigerians should understand that the current economic situation will not last forever.

According to the group, “tough times never last, but tough people do.”

The statement reads: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo seizes this opportunity to reiterate our position with respect to the widely publicised nationwide protest scheduled for the days of August, 2024.

“On February, 20, 2024, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, directed the Igbo not to join in the protest against President Bola Tinubu.

“The Igbo leader explained that “Igbo youths and youths from other ethnic groups at various times expressed their dissatisfaction with events in the country.

“It is clear to us that when youths from other tribes of the country are involved, they are reprimanded and forgiven; but when the Igbo youths are involved,  they are arrested, incarcerated and even charged for serious offences. For example, the arrest and detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu generated a lot of problems for the Igbos among others.

“Emphatically, the current hardship in Nigeria is the comeuppance of Igbophobia. It is an unavoidable outcome of an orchestrated injustice, marginalization, callous conspiracies, corporate shenanigans and ethnic bigotry against the Igbo.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo believes that there can never be peace, progress and national development when there is a deliberate government policy of injustice, tantrums and brimstones against a vibrant, capacious, resourceful, resilient and populous ethnic group such as the Igbo.

The group reacted to a remark by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga,  that “the malcontents planning to stage nationwide protests are supporters of Peter Obi and that Obi “should be held responsible for whatever crisis that emanates from the protest.”

Ohanaeze also objected to Onanuga’s remark that  Obidients are “plotting to unseat President Bola Tinubu under the guise of protests,” thereby convening the impression that “the Igbo are the propellers of the forthcoming nationwide protest”.

Ohanaeze said:  “Ohanaeze Ndigbo views Onanuga’s dispositions towards anything Igbo as unthoughtful, loathsome, cantankerous, uncouth, repugnant, inflammable, repugnant and full of deep-seated hate.”

Tinubu not against North, says Sani

Sani dismissed the insinuation that President Tinubu is against the North, saying that it is false and absurd.

He explained that President Tinubu is doing his best to salvage the economic situation, adding that he has been giving uncommon support to state governments in the North to address many challenges.

He attributed the rumour that Tinubu is against the North to the antics of some political manipulators, who are only interested in  feathering their nests.

Sani explained that in 2022, the Federal Government, through the National Bureau of Statistics, launched its most extensive measure of multi-dimensional poverty, which revealed that most poor people are in the North.

He said: “The survey revealed that 63% of persons living in Nigeria (that is about 133 million people) are multidimensionally poor. 65% of the poor (that is 86 million people) live in the North, while 35% (nearly 47 million) live in the South.

Read Also: Southeast won’t participate in protest, says Ohanaeze

“The North is not faring any better in the area of Education. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) puts the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria at 18.3 million. Out of this outrageous number of out-of-school children, about 70% are in the North.

“This is quite disturbing and must worry all of us who still care for the North and Nigeria in general. Insecurity in the North has retarded developments in the critical sectors as a lot of farmers cannot access their farms.

“Food insecurity now confronts us directly. Child and maternal mortality are on the increase. Our infrastructure has decayed and the moves to address our infrastructural deficits are equally threatened by insecurity.

“From this very disturbing picture, it is clear that the Northern Nigeria faces an existential threat. This is therefore, a time for all hands to be on deck to pull the region back from the brink. It is a time when our people must close ranks, fashion a Marshall Plan for the North and move decisively to change these negatives.”

Sani lamented that despite the indices, what is prevalent in the North is the promotion of toxic politics, opposition for opposition’s sake, and “pull him down syndrome.”

He observed that some Northerners indulge in endless blame games, devoid of attempts at soul searching or introspection.

Sani said: “We have failed to ask ourselves some vital questions. Where did the rain start beating the North? Who are those complicit in the underdevelopment of the North? What have we done individually and collectively to find solutions to the challenges facing the North?

“We must take a hard look at ourselves, tell ourselves some home truths, and move together to fashion a common strategy to address our developmental challenges and confront the criminals making life unbearable for our people.”

Sani said ACF has a major role to play in building the required consensus for the best approach to tackle the multifaceted challenges facing Northern Nigeria.

He said ACF should make efforts to refocus the attention of Northerners from toxic politics to development.

Police Commissioner to Abuja residents: Shun protest

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, urged residents of Abuja to ignore the protest.

He said the protest may be hijacked by  criminals bent on destroying the

new infrastructure recently put in place by the FCT administration and President Bola Tinubu.

The commissioner spoke on the protest while parading suspects who allegedly killed retired Brigadier General Uwen Harold Udokwerre in Abuja on June 22, 2024.

He said: “Lions do not destroy their den. We have toiled so much to ensure and provide security for the FCT. In the cause of this, we have gone to Kaduna, we have gone to Kogi, we have gone to Nasarawa to fish our criminals who came to disturb the peace of Abuja.

“In this process, we have lost officers. Last week we lost two officers, the previous week, we lost one officer over efforts at providing security and safeguarding residents. We don’t want to lose any more person.

“So please, don’t allow the destruction of what the minister and Mr President are doing. We have been in this FCT, we know when there are changes, roads, infrastructure. I am pleading with residents, do not join this protest.

“We don’t want miscreants to come from outside the FCT to come and start destroying them. We will go back to square one where we were before. I plead, I beg of you, do not join this protest.

“Let us continue collectively to make FCT safe. Let them go and do what they want to do. But not with us. Act maturely. Act maturely. Act like people who appreciate. Even the loss we have been losing to ensure your safety. Use it to appreciate us. If you give it to us, we will be very happy. We will continue to provide security for you.”

NLC, NANS CAN not part of protest

Jigawa State  branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)  and NLC  also disassociated themselves from the protest.

They said they would not join the protest during their meeting with Governor Umar Namadi in Dutse

The governor said protest will not resolve the economic crisis, urging the youths to be patient with the government.

CAN leader Rev. Father Maurice Hassan said: “CAN in Jigawa State is not and will not be part of the protest. We want peace. I am appealing to the government to find a solution. People are in serious situation”.

NLC Chairman Sunusi Alhassan said: “We are not and will not be part of this protest because our national secretariat is not party to it.

Also, the President of Jigawa State NANS Comrade Abdullahi Garba said student would not allow any selfish individual or group to use them to distablise the peace of the nation.

    Justice Forum urges calm

A group in the  the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Justice Forum, urged t to alcalm down, embrace dialogue and shun violence.

It’s leader in Ikeja Division, James Faleke,  said in a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Razaq Ajala, that the youths should shun disgruntled elements who want to use them to achieve a self-serving agenda.

Faleke recalled the ENDSARS protest in Lagos that was hijacked by disgruntled elements, lamenting that it led to loss of innocent lives and destruction of property.

He said: “We all witnessed how innocent lives and properties worth billions of Naira were lost during the so-called ENDSARS protest a few years ago in Lagos when a genuine agitation turned into violence.

“There is need for us to thread softly with the development in Kenya and other similar incidents across the world where genuine agitations have been hijacked by agents of devil and have resulted into loss of innocent lives and several properties destroyed.”

Faleke,  who chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Finance, said   the policies Tinubu il administration have started yielding dividends.

He added: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration has just approved a new minimum wage for the civil servant which is more than 100%.

“He has equally removed the duties payable on essential food items, payment of student loans among other efforts by the government to put the Economy back on track,” he said.

“We appeal to Nigerians to continue to support Mr. President in his resolved to institute a sustainable economy model that will benefit all.”

Faleke urged National Assembly members, state lawmakers,  ministers, commissioners, council chairmen and other party leaders to educate and sensitize the populace on the needs to understand President Tinubu’s policies and be patient with the government.

Southeast won’t participate in protest, says Ohanaeze

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has reiterated the position of Ndigbo, particularly the people of the southeast that they would not participate in the planned nationwide protest against President Bola Tinubu’s government.

Ohanaeze stated this in a statement on Monday, July 22, lamenting that the planned nationwide protest is an outcome of the current economic situation in the country.

In the statement issued by its national publicity secretary, Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, Ohanaeze requested the Igbo not to join the nationwide protest, as according to the group, “Tough times never last but tough people do.”

The statement read: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo seizes this opportunity to reiterate our position with respect to the widely publicized nationwide protest scheduled for the days of August 2024.

“Emphatically, the current hardship in Nigeria is the comeuppance of Igbophobia. It is an unavoidable outcome of an orchestrated injustice, marginalization, callous conspiracies, corporate shenanigans, and ethnic bigotry against the Igbo.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo stands on a firm wicket based on reason, history, and experience, to state that “there can never be peace, progress, and national development when there is a deliberate government policy of injustice, tantrums, and brimstones against a vibrant, capacious, resourceful, resilient and populous ethnic group such as the Igbo.

“On Saturday, March 25, 2023, during the occasion of one year in the office of Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the Governor of Anambra State, the former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo condemned the persistent aversion to the people of southeastern extraction, which he described as Igbophobia. Obasanjo added that unless Nigeria throws its doors open to merit and full inclusion of the Igbo in national affairs, the country will continue to flounder and grope in the dark.”

Let’s unite to tackle obstacles hindering Igbo progress, Obid igbo tells Ohanaeze

An elder statesman and Igbo leader, Dr Chike Obidigbo, has called for the unity of Igbo to give room to tackling the obstacles hindering the progress of the Southeast region.

He says it’s time to bring all the sociocultural organizations like Ohanaeze Ndigbo, political leaders in the Southeast, and other leaders together for a possible solution.

The front-line Industrialist, while speaking with The Nation, Saturday, declared that the disunity in Igbo land was a calculated plan by some powers, especially, Britain to cripple Igbo.

“In the Southeast, despite the 25 years of unbroken civil rule, elections have always provided opportunities for those who are interested in the internal subjugation of Igbo land to impose leaders on the people.

“This undemocratic programme, which started from Anambra State and manifested in Imo State, has always defined elections in the Southeast.

“I say this of a fact because I contested governorship elections in Anambra State and I knew the level of interest shown by powerful individuals from outside the zone on who becomes governor of every Igbo state

“The political emasculation of Igbo seems to be the most proficient political strategy handed down by the British to ensure their continued influence on the sociopolitical life of its former West African colony,” Obidigbo said.

Continuing, the elder statesman said Britain had remained steadfast in intervening in Nigeria’s affairs as if Nigeria was her entitled source of livelihood and Ndigbo her major obstacle to drawing her entitled benefits.

“This undue antagonism against Igbo is not limited to politics but goes down to economic activities, especially, trade, commerce, and industry

“Having identified some of the various obstacles to Igbo progress, it behooves on our leaders, particularly, Igbo political leaders,(which I doubt genuinely exist), Igbo socio-cultural organizations, and Igbo Think Tanks, to sit down and fashion out workable course of action to free us from these heavy man-made burdens.”

Obidigbo, further said that the Igbo must realize that the progressive nature of Ndigbo elicits envy, jealousy, suspicion, and outright hatred which according to him could culminate in death.

    • Laud Enugu assembly for passing bill

The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has advocated progressive ranching laws in the Southeast geopolitical zone and other states in Nigeria to permanently address the constant farmers’ herders’ crisis.

The Acting National Youth Leader of Ohanaeze, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, made the call during a press briefing at the end of the just concluded Igbo Youth Leaders and Stakeholders’ Convention that was held last Friday at Nike Lake Hotel, Enugu.

Okpalaezeukwu disclosed that the convention commended the Enugu State House of Assembly for pioneering the enactment of a public ranching bill in the state and urged other states in Nigeria especially in the Southeast to toe the same path.

Okpalaezeukwu commended President  Bola Tinubu for appointing a vibrant youth leader, Comrade Ayodele Olawande as the Minister of State for Youth Development, whom he said participated in the convention.

“We salute the courage of the governors of the Southeast in curbing the menace of insecurity in the region, however, we urge them to inculcate the Igbo youth in the security structure of their various states,” he stated.

The Ohanaeze youth leader also told journalists that the convention acknowledged the unparalleled patriotic contributions of Igbo businessmen and investors in diverse fields of the Nigerian economy since Inception.

He, however, stated that they seriously condemn the continued unwarranted destruction of Igbo businesses and investments across Nigeria by state and non-state actors.

  • Ikwerre is Igbo, says ex-Ohanaeze scribe

Ikwerre is Igbo, says ex-Ohanaeze scribe

A former Secretary-General of the Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Dimm Uche Okwukwu has insisted that the Ikwerre ethnic nationality in Rivers State is part of the Igbo nation.

Okwukwu in a statement in Port Harcourt, countered the position of the Ikwerre socio-cultural group, the Iwhnurohna Progressive Organisation (IPO) that the Ikwerre is not Igbo.

He said: “God created the Igbo of which the Ikwerre are a proud part, and the ethnic-cleansing re-creations by man since the civil war should come to a close. Ikwerre are neither ‘Igboid’, nearly, almost, related to, like, resembling or partly Igbo; the Ikwerre are Igbo, originally and entirely till eternity.

“We understand that with the current prospect of a Rivers Igbo becoming the Ohanaeze President-General come January 2025, everything is in high gear in some circles to undermine this possibility of reuniting the Igbo, with one fifth columnist after another procured to vow non-Igboness of Igbo-speaking Rivers peoples, just in order to breach the Ohanaeze constitution and deny the Rivers Igbo the PG rotation.

“Hence, of all Igbo groups, the re-assembling now of efforts to restart de-Igbonizing those along the Igbo contiguity to the coast is quite understandable. But, those Ikwerre elements who derive pleasure in extracting the Ikwerre from their kith and kin should address or answer the following before the Ikwerre, Igbo, Nigeria, and the world”.

Tracing the history of Ikwerre as Igbo, Okwukwu said: “We the Igbo, including the Ikwerre have related with Europeans at least since the 15the century and the interactions are well documented.

“Those ‘we are not Igbo’ or “we are no more Igbo’ traitors and fifth columnists among us should show Nigerians and all the world, a single document, not even two or more, where the word ‘Ikwerre’ exists in the Igbo, Eastern, European or Nigerian lexicon or records before the early decades of the 20th century as a distinct ethnic group, race, unrelated to igbo.

“This sudden outburst is selfish only manufacture for economic and political ends. As late as 1957, Chief Joseph Wobo stated before the Henry Willink commission that ‘Ikwerre’ are Igbo and, from Port Harcourt to Onitsha is Igbo land. Based on evidence before it, the commission found that Ikwerre are Igbo.

“Let them point to a single document in Benin history that remotely mentioned ‘Ikwerre’ or ‘Iwhnurohna’ as people they either knew or related with at any point in the history of the great Benin peoples.

“This is important because one of the many insults that the Ikwerre and other Rivers and coastal Igbo peoples are humiliated with by some of their own is procuring all manner of pliable entities to concoct falsehoods of Ikwerre or other riverine Igbo departing Benin during the reign of Oba Ewuare (1440-1473), This is the nonsensical narrative that the “we are not Igbo” champions like Dr. Okahchukwu force through the throats of Ikwerre youths.

“Countless records exist about Igbo presence from Igweocha down to the coast, long before Ewuare. In effect, Dr. Okahchukwu and cohorts are inadvertently revealing that it was the ‘Ikwerre Benin migrants’ that met the already thriving  Igbo in meridional Igboland and not the other way round as falsely implied by self-contradicting entities like Dr. Okahchukwu, who commanded the Igbo to mind ‘their five states;’ in his educated illiteracy equating political with ethnolinguistic boundaries”.

Okwukwu added: “Yes, there was a civil war, in which coastal ports and broad sea lanes, especially Port Harcourt to Bonny were blockaded to preclude rebel arms importations; there was Abandoned Property too that seized what was developed with scarce, often borrowed funds.

“Not a single Rivers Igbo leader, be they Amabibi Nsirim, Emmanuel Aguma, Francis Ellah, Jackson Mpi, Nwaobidike Nwanodi, Obi Wali, Eze C.C Nwuche and Dr. Eze Nwala all of them close friends and allies of Zik never supported those ethnic-cleansing programs against both the Rivers Igbo that refused to purge themselves of the sins of being Igbo and their hinterland kith and kin that the world thought were the sole targets.

“For emphasis, ‘Okachikwu’ ‘Okahchukwu’ Dibia should be bold to tell us his name before the igbos changed it. His recent outburst exhibit ignorance and hate. Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President General, (Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide) Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide and Ndigbo deserve an apology from Okachikwu  Nwa Dibia, as Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu only stated the obvious and reaffirmed what Ikwerre great sons and daughters Amabibi Nsirim, Chief Emmanuel Aguma, Eze Jackson Mpi, Nwaobidike Nwanodi SAN, Obiajunwa Wali, had said in the past.

“Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu Ahajiagi-Mba Ndigbo is a respected igbo son striving hard for igbo unity and progress, He deserves an applause not condemnation”.

No plans to apologise over 1966 coup, says Ohanaeze

The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has  denied allegation by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) that he intended to apologise to the Fulani race for the killing of Sir Ahmadu Bello and Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa during the 1966 coup.

Iwuanyanwu, who spoke in Owerri, the Imo State capital at weekend said it was unfair and unjust to accuse the Igbos of being responsible for the coup.

He declared Ohaneze Ndigbo would never apologise for something they did not do.

“I was shocked to read a voice mail message which was circulating all over the country and all over the world alleging that we held a meeting in Enugu and that the meeting was poorly attended where the decision was taken that we are going to Sokoto to apologise to the Fulanis over the death of Ahmadu Bello and Tafawa Balewa and other Northerners.

“They abused me and insulted me. I read it and I was sad. I don’t expect that somebody or a Christian will come out and tell a complete false story against me. I never said anything like that.”

He explained the recent retreat in Enugu was actually a meeting of committees established for the development of Igboland and the issue of apologisinb to the Fulanis was never discussed.

He emphasised that the Igbos were not responsible for the 1966 coup, which he described as a purely military affair.

“Igbos didn’t kill anybody or leader but the Igbos were killed. So, as far as Ohaneze Ndigbo is concerned, Igbo did not have any business with that coup, that coup was purely a military affair like other coups that occurred in the country,” he said.

Iwuanyanwu expressed disappointment and pain over the lies against him, stating that he had always worked to bring dignity to the Igbos and Nigerians.

“It pains me that people will tell naked lies just to bring down a man of my status, a man who for over 60 years had laboured to build a name. I have served Igbos and Nigerians in various capacities and at every stage I have been aware that I’m an Igbo man and I have done everything to bring dignity to the Igbos.

“We didn’t invite the governors because we felt that the Governors are so busy to leave their states affairs to attend committees meeting, but it was well attended.

The call followed concerns by some Igbo in the diaspora at the Second World Igbo Conference about its perceived inaction regarding Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s continued detention.

Speaking at the conference held at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), a former chairman of the World Igbo Congress (WIC) and Emeritus Professor of Microbiology, Tennessee State University, Nashville USA, Prof. Anthony Ejiofo, had questioned the Ohanaeze’s effectiveness in advocating for Kanu’s release and urged for more proactive measures.

Also, another diasporan and President of American Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID), Dr. Sylvester Onyia, echoed Prof. Ejiofo’s views when he addressed the Conference during the second-day plenary session.

President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu defended the group’s position, refuting the claims of indifference by some diasporan groups.

He emphasised the organization’s ongoing efforts to address Kanu’s situation through legal and diplomatic channels.

Iwuanyanwu urged Ndigbo in the diaspora to seek clarifications before making unfounded claims, highlighting the importance of accurate information and informed discourse.

Iwuanyanwu’s position was also re-echoed by the special guest of honour at the two-day event and President of the Council of Igbo States in the Americas, Dr Josephine Uzoamaka Aguoji.

She acknowledged the spirited efforts being made by Ohanaeze to defend the rights and privileges of Ndigbo in Nigeria and elsewhere and encouraged Chief (Dr.) Iwuanyanwu to remain resilient and dogged in maintaining the commendable trajectory.

Apex Igbo sociocultural group, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has lauded President Bola Tinubu on the release of the 137 school children abducted on March 7, 2024 in Kuriga, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The Igbo group also extended felicitations to Kaduna Governor Uba Sani over the feat.

The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who gave the commendation on Tuesday, in a statement by Alex Ogbonnia, the spokesman of the group in Enugu, described the release of the children as “very heartwarming”.

He lauded President Tinubu for insisting shortly after the abduction that government would not negotiate with the kidnappers, adding that Ohanaeze was elated that “this is a new development, indeed a paradigm shift from the previous deplorable relationship that had existed between the kidnappers, bandits and miscreants on one hand and the Nigerian governments on the other.

“The Igbo Leader enthused that the courage, tenacity, commitment, content and character displayed by Mr. President towards a ransom-free release of the school children is an indication of several greater things to come. Evidently, the notorious double dealers, collaborators, bandit apologists, negotiators and unrepentant accomplices to the kidnappers will soon be put out market.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo appreciates the roles played by the locals, the good people of Kuriga community and the Chikun local government area to achieve the exceptional success. This goes to reinforce the Ohanaeze Ndigbo position on the need to restructure the Nigerian security system to reflect degrees of autonomy at state, local government and community levels.

“This is because the local security operatives are very conversant with the local terrain, topography, language and cultural cosmology of their environments and are best placed to combat crimes in their various jurisdictions. In practical and comparative terms, there is hardly any known federal system that operates a central security architecture.”

Speaking shortly after receiving the award at the group’s 2024 General Assembly in Awka, Ohanaeze leader in the Southeast, Okeke-Ogene, expressed joy that an organisation with a little beginning could boast of men of timber and caliber as a result of years of sacrifice by the founding fathers.

He said: “The elders went back to memory of the reason behind forming this association which is not based on money, but on self recognition and self service.

“I started early to be involved in community service, which attracted to me an award of Grand Commander on service to the community by the Willie Obiano-led government.

“Today, the association has crowned it with an honour of Grand patron. I didn’t lobby for it. I’m the most senior PG both past and present, outside late Chimezie Ikeazor, SAN. I helped in forming the association.

“I’m also the oldest serving executive, 26 years still counting and the only one in history of Ohaneze that has served three different national offices.

“I believe you must be willing to learn to grow, that’s why they refer to me as encyclopedia. I’ll always see myself as the least person in any organisation I belong because I want to tap from the knowledge of others.

“The most recognised service is the one elected by the community, because there’s no rigging. You can rig election of any political party, but you can’t rig that of town union.”

CP Adeoye appreciated the body for finding him worthy of the recognition, pledging increased commitment to their responsibility.

He said: “I feel humbled and the same time gratified and fulfilled that the past Presidents General of over 179 communities in Anambra State found me worthy for an award of excellence in security architecture.

“It’s a recognition I cherish because it validates and recognises the modest efforts the Police command has put in towards serving the people.

“This, we’ve done in synergy with sister security agencies. Incidentally, I coordinate all the security agencies in the state, both military and paramilitary.

“In essence, the award is not just for me or the police, but for all the entire security services operating in the state.

“Not only do we function as federal government agencies, but we collaborate with state vigilante groups and local communities and town unions. So it’s a robust partnership where everyone work for the security of the state.

“This award coming from a body that offered it is significant because they represent the aspirations of the people of the state at the grassroots.

“It’s not an elitist award, but grassroots oriented; simply lending voice to the saying that the voice of the people is the voice of God. We see this award as the people themselves speaking who we take seriously because they’re the reason for our existence.

“Just as the constitution stipulates that security and welfare of the people are sole responsibility of government. When these things are lacking, it means government has failed.

“But in Anambra State, government hasn’t failed. Rather it has lived up to its expectations in meeting the people’s aspirations for security.

“Since the environment is security friendly, it makes it easier for people to achieve their lives ambitions. That’s why we’re elated at the award, feeling that efforts we put in as a duty, not as favour is being recognised.”

National President of Association of Past President General of Anambra state (APPS), Mazi Omife Omife praised Okeke-Ogene for his selfless service and commitment to the association.

He said the Ohanaeze boss was honoured with the award together with others for distinguishing themselves in their respective areas of endeavours.
