  • NBC bans Olamide, Wizkid, Lil Kesh, others

THE Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation, as the body vested with the responsibility of vetting the quality of songs aired on Nigerian media since its establishment in 1991 by the 1992 Act 38, and Act 55 of 1991 as amended, has again placed a ban on some songs from being played on Nigerian media.

Citing lewdness and debauchery as reasons for censoring the works in question, the organization has put its ‘Not to be broadcast’ label on the following songs by popular Nigerian music acts; Olamide’s Don’t stop, Reminisce’s Tesojue, Naeto C’s Tony Montana featuring D’banj, Phyno’s Yayo ,Wizkid’s In My Bed , Iyanya’s Gift featuring Don Jazzy, Lil Kesh’s Gbese, May D’s Ibadi, Olamide’s Bobo, and Falila Ketan.

Even though the songs in question are the rave right now, they will not be played on Nigerian television and radio stations, but will continue to air on websites, and cable channels like Sound City, MTV Base, and Hip TV, in addition to clubs, and places f entertainment.

The Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation, in its memos to heads of stations clarified that their labeling reveals how the parastatal rates content.  And says that free to air channels could not therefore air songs that contain profanity, violence, and vulgarity. Furthermore, like the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NBC avers that songs like Davido’s Fans Mi promote ostentatious living, indecent exposure, and drug trafficking.

How Pop, R&B artistes rank on social media

The impact of Social media on the Entertainment industry in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized, given that entertainers (Musical Artistes) were among the first Nigerians who embraced the new media and have remained on top of the list of users in Nigeria and across the world.

Some started earlier and still struggling to gain much followership, depending on how soon such an artiste understood the tricks of each social media platform and apply same in order to connect with fans.

However, some other artistes came on much later and are doing very fine with a good number of followers on these platforms.

No doubt, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are very important platforms that have been engaged by these Celebrities to carry their fans along.

Below is how they rank on Twitter and Instagram:

  • Don Jazzy, Olamide back to the trenches

Don Jazzy, Olamide back to the trenches

There are indications label owners Don Jazzy and Olamide might be back to their last quarrel, following the sudden disappearance, from their Instagram handles, of pictures taken at their reconciliation meeting.

Fans are however linking this development to a message posted by Teebillz, Tiwa Savage’s husband on January 23, purportedly challenging some comments made by Olamide during the heat of their quarrel.

Recall that Olamide, on January 1, had walked out of the Headies stage in protest, after the Next Rated award category was announced in favour of Don Jazzy’s artiste, Reekadobanks, claiming his artiste, Lil Kesh, deserved the laurel instead.

Teebillz wrote: “After you have produced more than 10 major artists with back to back hits for over 10 years and still relevant then you can compare yourself to this guy @donjazzy until then I advise you mind your production and keep working hard #SMD #FactsOnly #Reminder

This is coming a few days after Tiwa Savage released the video of her street-esque track ‘Standing Ovation’ which Olamide who features in the song also promoted by posting pictures from the music video as well as snippets of the video on his Instagram page.

All those posts have now disappeared, even though it was observed that Don Jazzy deleted images from his Instagram page first, leaving only a logo of his Supreme Mavin Dynasty.

If the artistes are resuming their quarrel, observers reason that it is to undermine the effort of Nigerian business mogul, Aliko Dangote, who convened a peace meeting for them a few weeks ago.

  • Olamide promotes Dab on Instagram

    Olamide promotes Dab on Instagram

Hip hop act Olamide is in the news again. This time, he is featured in a new song, Oya Dab, by DJ Enimoney which dropped last week. And as part of the promo for the song, Olamide has however gone on social media to give the new video, which comes with a new dance move some hype.

Throughout the weekend, Olamide, on his Instagram page, he posted different pictures of fans striking the ‘Dab’ dance pose.

The pose which sees people bend down and throw one hand sideways to the sky while the palm on the other hand closes the eyes has been going viral. The song is produced by B Banks.

It will be recalled that Olamide started 2016 on a controversial note when on New Year Day, he made snide remarks concerning the Headies’ decision to award Reekado Banks of Supreme Mavins Dynasty the award of ‘Next Rated Artist’ instead of Lil Kesh who is signed on to his YBNL label. A response by Don Jazzy was followed by a flurry of inflamed tweets by Olamide aimed at the SMD boss.

However, with the rift settled by the next day, Olamide was, few days after, host of SMD as he featured on Tiwa Savage’s new video, Standing Ovation, off Tiwa’s latest album, R.E.D.
