    ‘Change your operational tactics’

A former lawmaker in Osun State House of Assembly, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has admonished Service Chiefs to change their operational tactics to tackle insecurity.

Oyintiloye in a statement yesterday in Osogbo, Osun State capital, noted that the security chiefs acted swiftly to protect Nigerians amid rising security challenges ravaging the country.

The chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) said recent killings and abductions of innocent Nigerians by terrorists in Kwara, Kebbi, Niger and other parts of the country were becoming unbearable.

He said: “The recent killings and abductions of worshippers and students have thrown many families into distress and made the country appear largely unsafe.

“I want to passionately appeal to the Service Chiefs to do everything within their power to rescue the abducted children and also stop the senseless killings by the terrorists across the country. Many communities have been made desolate due to the mass displacement of people and killings.

“Parents, families and relatives are currently in a state of devastation due to violence, mass abductions, especially of school children, and killings by the terrorists.

“If it means the Service Chiefs changing their operational tactics to get things right, they should do so without hesitation because Nigeria is bleeding and time is running out,” he said.

Oyintiloye also said that there was no doubt that the security agencies were working hard to keep Nigeria safe.

He, however, said the spate of killings and abductions of school children in the past few days called for serious concern and a change in security operational strategies.

The APC chieftain also called on President Tinubu and the National Security Adviser (NSA) , Nuhu Ribadu, to discreetly identify those who might be sabotaging the efforts of the military in the fight against terrorism and prosecute such persons.

“The President and the NSA should discreetly identify those sabotaging the efforts of the military in protecting Nigerians for prosecution.

“Those saboteurs within the system must be identified and flushed out before they do more damage. There are distressing reports suggesting internal sabotage and external collaboration. This must be decisively dealt with.

“The way and manner in which the efforts of the military are being thwarted calls for serious concern and should be investigated,” he said.

Oyintiloye, who commended the President for his efforts to protect the country, said Nigeria had the capacity to win the war against terrorism with the support of all stakeholders.

Don’t succumb to politicians’ intimidation, harassment, Osun ex-lawmaker tells INEC boss

A former lawmaker in Osun State,  Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged the newly-appointed Chairman of  Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, not to succumb to intimidation and harassment while discharging his duties.

Oyintiloye, a member of All Progressives Congress (APC), who was a member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), in a statement yesterday, also enjoined the INEC boss to demonstrate a high level of courage and integrity in the face of intimidation from politicians, especially opposition parties, ahead of the off-cycle and general elections.

He advised Amupitan not to disappoint Nigerians and to resist all forms of undue pressure from politicians, who might seek to blackmail the commission to discredit valid electoral processes.

He said the commission under Amupitan’s leadership must act in line with the established rules and regulations, as well as acceptable standard of practice, to avoid committing errors in the face of pressure from politicians.

“All eyes are on the new INEC boss, and I want to advise him to stay focused and resist all forms of pressure that can undermine the integrity of the commission. Amupitan must ignore all forms of negative criticism and ensure he abides by the laid-down rules and regulations for the conduct of free and fair elections.

“Those who lost elections will continue to undermine the efforts of the commission towards conducting credible elections for their own personal gain, but the INEC boss must fear no one. He must apply the rules without favour,” he added.

Oyintiloye hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Amupitan for the job, saying his choice could not have been a mistake.

The APC chieftain said Amupitan’s appointment by the President showed he was a man of integrity and honour with capacity to sanitise the electoral processes.

He, however, noted that the November 8 Anambra governorship election and the 2026 governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun state would be a litmus test for Amupitan.

Congratulating him on his appointment, Oyintiloye said all eyes were on the new INEC boss to protect the integrity of the commission.

Be more ruthless in dealing with insecurity – Osun ex-lawmaker tasks Service chiefs

A former Osun State lawmaker, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on the Service Chiefs to adopt a more ruthless approach in dealing with individuals and groups involved in violent crimes across the country.

Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the call in a statement on Sunday, stressing that while security agencies have made commendable efforts to curb insecurity, more decisive action is needed to end persistent killings, especially in parts of the North.

The former member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council expressed deep concern over the rising cases of attacks by suspected bandits in Kwara, Borno, Zamfara, and Niger states. He urged security leaders to take bold and uncompromising steps against both perpetrators and their sponsors.

He lamented that many Nigerians continue to live in fear despite ongoing counterterrorism efforts, and urged the Service Chiefs not to relent until terrorism and banditry are completely eradicated.

“There is no doubt that the Service Chiefs are doing their best to stop the killings by bandits,” he said, “but they need to be more ruthless with them until they quench the insurgency in our land.”

Oyintiloye also cautioned against internal sabotage within security formations and advised the military and other agencies to fully deploy their available human and material resources to restore public confidence and ensure lasting peace across the country.

“I will also urge them to look inward and fish out those who might be working against their relentless efforts to crush the activities of the terrorists in the country completely. This is very important to restore public confidence in the security agencies.

“People are tired, and many of them are living in fear of the unknown due to the activities of those perpetrating violent crimes in the country,” he said.

Oyintiloye also highlighted the need for the service chiefs to involve local security networks in intelligence gathering to tackle the menace.

Oyintiloye further said that the security agencies should also target the financial backbone of terrorist groups in the country to complement their efforts.

He, however, commended President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly for providing the needed support and budgetary allocation for the security agencies to reduce violent crimes in the country.

He predicted that with the cooperation of all stakeholders, acts of faith, patriotism, honesty, and a positive mindset on the part of Nigerians, the country would defeat the menace of insecurity in due course.

‘Enforce executive order on prices of drugs’

A former lawmaker in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to direct full enforcement of the executive order on reduction in prices of essential medical consumables and machine.

Oyintiloye, a member of the defunct All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), in a statement yesterday said despite the President’s executive order in June 2024 aimed at easing the financial burden of patients regarding drug prices, many life-saving drugs were still priced very high.

noted that the order, which introduced zero tariffs, excise duties and VAT on specified machinery, equipment and raw materials to reduce production costs and enhance local manufacturers’ competitiveness, had yet to yield the desired results.

He said although the Nigeria Customs Service announced in March 26 that it had begun the implementation of the executive order, drug prices had continued to soar.

He lamented that despite the move, prices of critical drugs such as Insulin, Metformin and Exforge, among others, were still very high.

Oyintiloye added that while prices of medicines such as Augmentin and Ventolin inhaler had slightly dropped, many other important medicines were still priced very high.

He urged the President to “ensure the full implementation of the executive order to enable local manufacturers reduce drug prices.”

The APC chieftain said many Nigerians were still struggling to cope with the surge in drug prices.

”I want to appeal to the president to see to the implementation of his executive order on drug prices for the benefits of Nigerians. There is no doubt that the president is doing everything within his power to provide quality health care delivery to Nigerians. I am optimistic that he will see to this.”

Ex-Osun lawmaker warns coalition leaders against inciting remarks

A former member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has cautioned leaders of the coalition using the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform against making unpatriotic statements targeting President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian state.

In a statement released on Sunday, Oyintiloye warned that the coalition’s rhetoric ahead of the 2027 general elections was unnecessarily heating up the polity and stoking national tension, despite the elections being nearly two years away.

He particularly condemned a recent statement reportedly made by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, which called for violent protests to effect a change in government before 2027.

Describing the remark as unpatriotic, Oyintiloye said, “What the country needs now is to build on democratic gains, not to provoke unrest through inflammatory comments.”

While acknowledging that forming political coalitions is a common and legitimate practice in democracies, Oyintiloye stressed that using such platforms to incite citizens against the government should not be tolerated.

He urged political leaders to prioritize national stability and democratic progress over personal or partisan ambitions.

“Many coalition leaders are hungry for power and are ready to get it at all costs, not minding the negative implications of their actions on the country. We don’t have any other country except Nigeria, and it would be unwise to destroy it with our utterances and unguided actions due to power hunger.

“What the country need now is patriotic leaders who can support the present administration to work together in building a better future, create wealth, sustain peace, stability and progress, “he said.

He urged opposition leaders to support the president in moving the country forward and stop causing unnecessary tension.

Ex-Osun lawmaker urges Tinubu to prevent crisis over council chairmen reinstatement

A former member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and prevent a potential crisis following the reinstatement of council chairmen by a court ruling.

In a statement on Sunday, Oyintiloye expressed concern that a recent Court of Appeal judgment— which dismissed the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s application for the relisting of its suit — is being misinterpreted by the Osun State Government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as overturning an earlier ruling delivered on February 10, 2025, which reinstated the APC chairmen and councillors.

He warned that the alleged misrepresentation of the judgment could spark unrest across the 30 local government areas of the state if not swiftly addressed before Monday.

The former lawmaker declared that the APC chairmen and councillors, who have since resumed duties at their various council secretariats, would resist any attempt to forcefully remove them.

Oyintiloye urged President Tinubu to order the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to the state to forestall any breakdown of law and order.

“We don’t want any bloodshed in the state again and that is why I am calling on President to intervene swiftly to avoid loss of lives. The open declaration by PDP members to invade the council secretariats in the state on Monday can lead to mayhem and that is not what we need at the moment.

“Both the state government and the PDP must be cautioned against causing crisis in the state due to wrong interpretation of the court ruling.”

Defections not Tinubu’s fault, Ex-Osun lawmaker tells PDP, opposition parties

A former member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has cautioned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition parties against blaming President Bola Tinubu for the recent wave of defections into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement on Sunday, Oyintiloye, who previously represented Obokun State Constituency on the APC platform, said the opposition should focus on addressing internal issues within their parties rather than pointing fingers at the president.

He argued that the defections were driven by ideological alignment and personal conviction, not coercion, as some have claimed.

“The movement of members from one party to another is not unusual in a democracy. What we are witnessing is largely due to unresolved internal disputes within the opposition parties,” he said.

Oyintiloye maintained that the APC’s appeal was growing, while opposition parties continued to lose members due to what he described as long-standing internal wrangling and lack of internal democracy.

He urged leaders of the affected parties to reflect on their internal structures and work toward genuine reconciliation, rather than accusing the ruling party of interference.

“So many defectors claimed that they were sidelined, undermined, unfairly treated by their former parties, leaving them with no option but to switch to a party with a sustainable transformation agenda.

“This season of political recalibration that is leading to the growing number of Nigerian politicians defecting en masse to the ruling APC is an indication that the party has shown courage in being capable of transforming the country through the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of the president.

“Mr. President has shown commitment to prioritise national development and create a more viable platform. That is winning members into the APC fold,” he said.

He predicted more defections from the opposition parties, especially PDP, warning that “PDP should not blame the President or APC for its lack of cohesion.”

He also dismissed insinuations in some quarters that the wave of defections of members of the opposition parties to APC could lead to one party system.

Ex-lawmaker urges President to tackle contributory pensioners’ plight

A former lawmaker in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to look into the plight of contributory pensioners.

Oyintiloye, one of the leaders of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, in a statement yesterday, said delayed or non-payment of pensions, inadequate funding and corruption within the pension scheme had led to hardship and financial stress for pensioners.

The member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) said since the Federal Government enacted the Pensions Reform Act (PRA 2004), which introduced the Contributory Pension Scheme, pensioners had not been treated fairly by, especially, many previous administrations.

He lamented that many retirees were often paid between 25 and 50 per cent of the lump sum after retirement, noting that many civil servants, who had served the government in their prime, would end up being subjected to untold hardship and poverty after retirement due to delay or non- payment of retirement benefits due to them by the government.

Oyintiloye lauded President Tinubu for approving N758 billion bond in February to clear 16 years pension liabilities.

He said more still needed to be done to save pensioners from poverty after retirement, leading to illness and untimely death.

“I want to appeal to the President to look into the plight of pensioners under the Contributory Pension Scheme. The 2004 Pension Act should be reviewed to enable pensioners live a decent life after retirement, Oyintiloye added.”

  • Withdrawal of services by Osun council workers uncalled for, says APC chieftain

Withdrawal of services by Osun council workers uncalled for, says APC chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has described the withdrawal of services by local government workers in the state as pathetic and unfortunate.

Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, noted that the action of the workers had paralysed local government administration in the state and inflicted pain on the people at the grassroots.

The APC chieftain, speaking with reporters yesterday in Osogbo, appealed to workers to return to work and save the local government administration in the state from total collapse.

Oyintiloye, a member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), lamented that the provision of essential services in the last one month at the local government level in the state had been crippled due to the withdrawal of services by the workers.

He said clinics, primary health care centres, marriage registries and administrative offices at the local government had been shut, thereby subjecting expectant mothers, students and potential couples, among others, into untold hardship.

Oyintiloye said many expectant mothers at the grassroots could not access their routine antenatal programme, while many applicants who needed documentation necessary to apply for jobs could not also access the secretariats.

He said since there were elected council chairmen, there was no point for the local government workers for absconding from work.

Oyintiloye called on the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NUGLE) in the state not to allow themselves to be used to frustrate local government administration.

According to him, since union is supposed to be apolitical, it should uphold the tenets of their creation, which is to serve all government in power.

Oyintiloye said the council chairmen would liaise with security agencies to ensure workers were protected upon resumption.

The APC chieftain said the perceived crisis in councils had been put under control by the security agencies, adding that there was a peaceful atmosphere for workers to resume at their duty posts.

He, however, lauded members of a faction of NULGE under the aegis of Association of Concerned Local Government Staff for their willingness to resume work today.

Oyintiloye said their commitment to the well-being of the people at the grassroots would be appreciated by the people.

He advised the state government not to engage in divide and rule means to destroy the local government administration.

News Agency of Nigeria reports that NULGE had directed local government workers to withdraw their services from February 17, following political crisis between the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party over a Court of Appeal judgment on councils’ administration.

Ex-lawmaker decries LG workers’ strike, urges immediate return to work

A former lawmaker, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has described the ongoing strike by local government workers in the state as both “pathetic and unfortunate,” warning that it has plunged council areas into administrative paralysis and inflicted severe hardship on grassroots residents.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), appealed to the workers to immediately resume duties to prevent the total collapse of local government operations.

He lamented that the month-long strike had crippled essential services, including clinics, primary healthcare centres, marriage registries, and administrative offices, leaving pregnant women, students, and intending couples stranded and suffering due to the disruption.

Oyintiloye urged all stakeholders to work toward a speedy resolution, emphasizing the urgent need to restore normalcy in the affected council areas.

Oyintiloye said that many pregnant women at the grassroots could not access their routine immunisation, while many applicants who needed documentation necessary to apply for federal jobs could not also access the secretariats.

Oyintiloye called on the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NUGLE) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state not to allowed themselves to be used to frustrate local government administration in the state.
