Ex-lawmaker urges NJC top robe Osun judge

A former lawmaker, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged the National Judicial Council (NJC) to investigate Justice A. A. Aderibigbe of the state High Court for granting a counter order despite Appeal Court verdict reinstating sacked council executives.

It will be recalled that Justice Aderibigbe granted the prayers of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) declaring council seats vacant and directed Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) to conduct local government election despite Attorney General of Federation and Inspector General of Police (IGP) warning not to conduct the poll.

Oyintiloye in a statement yesterday described the order of the High Court sitting in Ilesa as illegal, saying “it was at variance with the advice given by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, that Governor Ademola Adeleke should not to proceed with the conduct of the election.

The ex-lawmaker, who represented Obokun State Constituency, said “the order of Justice Aderibigbe is strange. I want to appeal to the NJC to investigate Justice Aderibigbe for bringing the judiciary to ridicule with the judgment he delivered on February 21, recognising vacancies in Osun local governments after the Court of Appeal had returned the unjustly sacked elected chairmen and councillors elected in the October 15, 2022 election.

He queried: “Can the order of the state High Court supersede a judgment of the Court of Appeal? Where and when did Justice Aderibigbe sit to give the order? “Why is it that it was the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice that presented the order of the court to journalists? Can a judge deliver a judgment without persons whose interests (the reinstated APC chairmen and councillors) not being made parties to the suit?’’

The APC chieftain subsequently urged NJC to thoroughly investigate Aderibigbe to keep intact the sanctity of the judiciary, adding that that the order granted by the judge had raised questions about court hierarchy, which the Council must provide answers to.

Former Osun lawmaker urges Tinubu to investigate 2024 national grid collapses

Former Osun state lawmaker, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on President Bola Tinubu to launch a thorough investigation into the 12 national grid collapses recorded in 2024.

In a statement on Sunday, Oyintiloye expressed concern over the frequent grid failures, describing them as a significant threat to the country’s economic growth.

He stressed that the persistent power outages negatively impact businesses and daily life across Nigeria.

“The incessant collapse of the national grid is worrisome. I believe that a presidential investigation will uncover the root causes and provide lasting solutions to this recurring issue,” said Oyintiloye, who formerly represented the Obokun State Constituency and served as a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in 2023.

He further questioned the rationale behind the collapses, given Nigeria’s abundant resources.

“The country is blessed with all the resources needed to keep the grid running. Why does it collapse so often? This embarrassment must stop, and sanity must be restored in the power sector for the sake of our economy. If sabotage is at play, an investigation will expose it,” he added.

He called for decisive action to restore confidence in the nation’s energy infrastructure.

    ‘Don’t incite Nigerians to violence’

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State,  Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has appealed to politicians to guard against utterances that could incite Nigerians into violent protest against the government.

He said any politician hiding under the current temporary hardship in the country to incite the masses against constituted authorities should be regarded as an enemy of the country.

The APC chieftain spoke yesterday with reporters in Osogbo.

Oyintiloye, a member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), said what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu needed ‘’at this period is prayer and support of Nigerians to enable him stabilise the economy for the benefit of the masses.’’

He said the economic challenges the country was passing through required the understanding and collaborative approach towards finding solution to them and not inciting comment that could lead to public unrest.

Oyintiloye, who noted that the president was doing everything possible to turn the economy around, said it would amount to being unpatriotic for anyone, no matter how highly placed, to incite the masses into a protest.

He called on security agencies to be on the alert and ensure that anyone attempting to incite the masses to wreak havoc was made to face the law.

“There is no doubt that the economy is not in its best shape, but this is just temporary.

“The president is working assiduously to ensure that the economy is brought back to shape for Nigerians to enjoy.

“While we are waiting for that, I do not think inciting the masses against the government is the best way to go.

“I will strongly advise those politicians who are calling people to protest against the government to desist or be ready to face the law,” he said.

Oyintiloye appealed to Nigerians to be patient, saying the effect of some of the policies of government may be harsh at the moment, predicting that the outcome will be better for all.

Cholera: Ex-lawmaker warns governors against diverting N260b PHCs’ revitalisation fund

A member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC),  All Progressives Congress (APC), Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has warned governors against diverting the N260 billion Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) revitalisation fund released by the Federal Government to them to tackle cholera outbreak.

Oyintiloye, who described the gesture as timely, sought prudent management of the huge cash.

Speaking to reporters in Osogbo, the Osun State capital yesterday, Oyintiloye said with the recent outbreak of cholera, PHCs must be well equipped to rescue the situation and that the money had been earmarked for their revitalisation.

He noted that many PHCs lack the capacity to provide essential health care services with the challenges of inadequate equipment, poor conditions of service, lack of essential drugs, among others.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Pate, had on May 24, this year said N260 billion had been earmarked for the revitalisation of PHCs across the country.

According to Pate, the money is available at the state level “for the revitalisation of their primary healthcare centres.”

Oyintiloye, however, appealed to governors not to divert the money, but to use it wisely to equip the PHCs to curb the spread of cholera and other diseases.

He said with the recent report that the death toll from cholera outbreak has hit 40, PHCs, which are always the first point of call for people in the period of emergency, must be strengthened.

The APC chieftain said the disclosure by the minister that plans were underway to expand the PHCs from 8,300 to 17,000 through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency and make them functional to deliver essential services, was also commendable.

Oyintiloye, however, expressed worry that, if the fund, which is already at the state level, is not monitored, it could be diverted and the PHCs might not have the needed capacity to tackle the cholera outbreak.

He, however, urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure that a strict measure was put in place for the effective utilisation of the money.

Meanwhile, Director, Environmental Health, Ministry of  Environment and Water Resources, Lagos State, Mr Akeem Olaewe has urged residents to heed the directive, control and prevention measures by the government to curtail the spread of cholera.

Olaewe said this yesterday during the fumigation of hostels in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp, Iyana-Ipaja in preparation for the NYSC 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Orientation Course.

In Osun State, the state government has denied recording 13 cases of cholera.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Health Matters, Dr. Adekunle Akindele,  said: “13 samples collected so far. All 13 samples sent to the laboratory, of which 13(100 per cent) were negative, 0 positive and no pending result. Cholera RDT kits and transport media have been strategically distributed to some health facilities across the 30 LGAs.’’

In Imo State, the Commissioner for Primary Health, Social Services and Health Insurance, Dr. Prosper Ohayagha Success, allayed fears of cholera.

Ohayagha stated that test results from all 27 local government areas have come out negative.” When we heard of the report of the 28 suspected cases in the 27 LGAs, we did a test and came out negative. We don’t have any outbreak yet, it was a suspected case,” Dr. Ohayagha told The Nation.

Still, Imo schools have been put on red alert with schools prepared to tackle it.
