Oliseh met with NFF president Amaju Pinnick in London on Tuesday.

“An offer has been made, and there is understanding, but we have to work out the final details of the agreement in a few days. Of course, the Executive Board has to give approval for his appointment based on the final terms to be agreed,” said Felix Anyansi-Agwu, chairman of the NFF technical and development Committee.

NFF plans consortium of coaches for Eagles

The Nigeria Football Federation plans to hire a consortium of coaches for the Super Eagles, the federation’s president, Amaju Pinnick, has disclosed.

Former Super Eagles skipper, Sunday Oliseh, has been widely touted to replace the sacked Stephen Keshi, but Pinnick has now told africanFootball.com the NFF want to do something different as regards the top coaching post for the Eagles by hiring a team of top coaches.

“Yes I am going to have a meeting, but it’s not just with Oliseh. It’s going to be a collective meeting with others. We are setting up a team (of coaches),” Pinnick told africanFootball.com

“It could be a foreign technical assistant, it could be a consortium of coaches, but we see this as an opportunity to deviate from the norm.

“We want what is best for Nigeria, that is why we have been speaking to a lot of people.

“We do not want to go through that usual way of collecting CV’s and interviewing. We know what we want and we want to go for it.”

Pinnick further disclosed the NFF plan to announce its decision later on Wednesday.

“Later today we would let Nigerians know our direction,” he said.

    •Says Eagles now all-comers show
    •Laments empty stands during matches

Sunday Oliseh has expressed displeasure with the prevailing culture in the current Super Eagles team and has branded the team as an all-comers’ affair.

“The pressure is less now not as it used to be. It’s way easy to play for Nigeria now and is one of the reasons why we are not performing,” he explained to www.footballlive.ng.

The former Eagles anchor man said the team play under unfettered conditions unlike the tense pressure that accompanied matches involving the team back when the Super Eagles’ matches were played in the National Stadium Lagos.

“Imagine those days, playing in front of a hundred thousand people and after 20 minutes on the pitch without a goal the fans start sing ‘ all we are saying give us one goal’, that was pressure.

“You had your family in Lagos with their future and yours in your hands, that was pressure, you play at the World Cup or Nations Cup and you can’t be second best, that is pressure. So, now it’s easier to play, God blessed us with a golden generation and we didn’t appreciate them enough,” he concluded.”

  • Oliseh joins Kuban Krasnodar

With a statement on its official website, Russian Premier League club FK Kuban Krasnodar has announced the hiring of Liberia National Teamer, Sekou Oliseh, from rivals CSKA Moscow.

The financial terms and duration of contract the 24 – year – old winger signed have not been disclosed by the Russian champions or the buying club.

Since the arrival of Super Eagles winger Ahmed Musa at CSKA Moscow, Oliseh has seen his first team opportunities limited ,and even had to spend the last 18 months on loan at PAOK, Greece.

After that agreement came to end this summer, the poster boy of the Lone Stars returned to Russia to sign for Kuban, who formally paid the wages of Dele Adeleye and Abdulwaheed Afolabi.

Sekou Oliseh also holds a Nigerian passport after he was adopted by FC Ebedei founder, Churchill Oliseh.

Amodu, Oliseh in line for Eagles job

Former coach Shuaibu Amodu and ex-captain Sunday Oliseh are in the front running to replace Stephen Keshi in the short and long-term, KickOffNigeria.com understands.

Keshi, whose contract as Nigeria coach lapsed with the country’s elimination from the World Cup, has not been offered a new deal and is not likely to be, despite reports to the contrary.

Instead, Technical Director Shuaibu Amodu, who has had three spells as Nigeria coach, is expected to be put in temporary charge while the NFF shops for a replacement.

The first name being considered is former captain Oliseh. Despite his limited experience, NFF bosses have been impressed with his knowledge of the game and his name came up for discussion immediately news of Keshi’s stepping down became public.

Top NFF officials however told KickOffNigeria.com that nothing had been decided yet, and the Federation will take its time in picking a suitable replacement.

What is certain, however, is that the relationship between Keshi and the NFF is fractured almost beyond repair.

The last straw was the coach’s announcement of his resignation without first informing the NFF as a courtesy.

  • Oliseh defends African sides

    Oliseh defends African sides

Ex-Nigeria International Sunday Oliseh has defended Africa Players conduct over bonuses at the 2014 World cup in Brazil.

Cameroon,Ghana and Nigeria all had issues with their players over appearance fees and bonuses during the tournament.

However, Oliseh believes the row is not enough to judge them as non committal to their national team course due to their unique cultural background, and their financial responsibilities stretch far beyond their own ends.

“I would refute the suggestion that African players are not as committed, in fact I’d say they are more committed, When you look at the responsibilities African players have to carry, the culture is a familiar one. It’s built around families.

“If you are earning €100, it’s not just for your wife and kids, it’s for your wife, kids, brother, cousin, aunt, sister and sister’s brother. School fees for this and that. In one kind of way, we are drained. But it’s a drainage we accept and do not complain about.

“So when African players come to the World Cup, it’s not all about money, it’s because of the fact that most of them have (been made) certain promises and these promises have not been fulfilled. It’s very easy to apportion blame but it’s a general thing because the situation is different. My mailbox is full with questions about this issue.”

The former Super Eagles captain who had 63 caps for Nigeria and is now a member of the FIFA technical group at the ongoing World cup feels an African team can win the World cup if on field issues are addressed properly.

“We have the quality. Ghana were within one penalty (in a shootout) of reaching the semifinals four years ago. But what we need is a solution so that everyone is satisfied before the tournament starts. It’s going to be better for everyone if we don’t have to talk about off the pitch issues.

Personally I find it very painful.”

    • Tips Eagles for round of 16

Messi is one of the best to have ever played football. He can do everything except head the ball. The question is how do you stop him? You can’t really if he’s on a good day. What we need to worry about is, is Messi going to be healthy come 2014? If he is healthy, we have a problem. But we have nothing to fear – for the first time in a long time we feel we have nothing to lose,” said the 39-year-old ex-Nigerian midfielder while on CNN analysing the World Cup draw.

These terse words from former Nigeria captain, Sunday Oliseh underlined the respect and fear that he has for one of the country’s 2014 World Cup teams, Argentina and their magic man Lionel Messi.

Oliseh, is quite confident that the African champions will paddle through their 2014 FIFA World Cup group to reach the round of 16.

Oliseh said he is “ecstatic” like his countrymen following Friday’s World Cup draw in Bahia, Brazil that pitched Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Group F alongside Argentina, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iran.

The member of the FIFA Technical Study Group took time to talk on Nigeria’s opponents ahead of next year’s World Cup.

“The Nigerians are ecstatic, myself included, because we have Iran in the group – with all due respect to them I think we should be able to negotiate this encounter. We’ve also got Bosnia, who are playing for the first time in the World Cup finals as a nation. Our chances are pretty bright and it’s looking interesting,” Oliseh told CNN.

The former Borussia Dortmund and Juventus man also spoke of the prospect of the Super Eagles coming up against Lionel Messi. He also reeled out the qualities of the FC Barcelona talisman.

Oliseh then warned that all 32 nations know “what is at stake” at the Mundial and believes it is not time to start celebrating or despairing over favourable or unfavourable draw.

“Every team going there knows what is at stake, it’s no joke. You can dance to Copacabana (now because of the draw) but come six months your opponents might dance and that’s the danger,” he warned.

Oliseh made 63 appearances for Nigeria and scored four goals. He also played in two World Cups in 1994 and 1998 when he scored a stunner against Spain.

Technical Study Group: FIFA explain Oliseh’s role in Dubai

As the curtain fell on the FIFA U-17 World Cup UAE 2013 last night, the world’s football governing body has moved to explain the role of former Super Eagles star, Sunday Oliseh is the Technical Study Group.

In a release its official website, FIFA revealed that the Technical Study Group also known as the experts help monitor matches at international tournaments and identified the latest footballing trends.

Speaking on their role at the FIFA U-17 World Cup UAE 2013, Head of FIFA’s technical division, Jean-Paul Brigger said:

“Our main goal is continual improvement of the game,” explained Brigger, also a former Swiss international who scored four goals in 35 appearances for his country alongside claiming a Swiss championship and five-time Swiss Cup winner, after been named player of the season in 1992 with FC Sion, and coach of the year in 1995.

Explaining further FIFA stressed that Oliseh and seven other members in the group that includes the likes of

Abdul Jalil Sh. Ahmad Bader (Kuwait), Jean-Marie Conz (Switzerland), Teofilo Cubillas (Peru), Abdullah Hassan Abdullah (UAE), Gines Melendez (Spain), Jean-Pierre Morlans (France) and Theodore Whitmore (Jamaica) are experts with extensive past experience at the highest level of international football either as national coaches or players.

“Their role is by no means confined to observing individual matches and training sessions at a tournament, as they also consult national coaches to discuss certain aspects of team preparation and training, for example, and to ascertain each team’s expectations of the tournament at hand. The information TSG members gather is then evaluated in a series of in-depth discussions involving a wide-ranging exchange of views. Later, this is summarised in the official tactical and technical analysis of the tournament.

  • Oliseh wants Moses out of Chelsea

Oliseh wants Moses out of Chelsea

Former Super Eagles skipper, Sunday Oliseh, has added his voice to the growing debate on whether Victor Moses should stay on at Chelsea to fight for a jersey or go elsewhere where he is guaranteed more playing time.

Oliseh however favours a move out of Stanford Bridge for the ace Nigerian winger as he posited that Moses needs regular playing time in the run to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

“Victor Moses will be better off leaving Chelsea Now! At least for this season. He needs regular playing time before the World Cup 2014,” Oliseh wrote via his twitter account on Monday.

Oliseh’s advice for Moses is coming on the heels of reported interest by Liverpool in bringing Moses to Anfield first on a season loan deal and perhaps wrap a permanent deal if need be.

Also there have been talks of Everton Boss, Roberto Martinez also seeking a reunion with Moses having worked together at now relegated Wigan Athletic.

Moses made a switch to Chelsea from Wigan back in 2012, but has failed to establish himself as a regular start in the team making 23 appearances in the Premier League.

With the new arrivals this summer, he has fallen further down the pecking order.
