•Player closes in on return to Chelsea

Kenneth Omeruo’s bid to return to Chelsea is getting closer by each passing day after his representative told SportingLife that the Eagles’ defender’s visa to England would soon be ready.

Omeruo was bought by the UEFA Europa League champions in 2011 from Belgian club Standard Liege and was subsequently loaned to ADO Den Haag in the Dutch top flight to gain playing time and experience.

After spending two seasons with the Dutch side, Omeruo is to make a sensational return to Chelsea before the start of this season and after getting the all clearance of Chelsea’s new manager, Jose Mourinho, the Nigerian is working on getting his travel documents sorted to make it to England.

A source, who is one of his representatives, told SportingLife that he is making frantic effort to ensure Omeruo’s visa application is successful having met most of the requirements.

He noted that the participation of the Abia born player in the ongoing FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil would go a long way to convince the British Home Office to grant him a work permit through the special talent arrangement even though he was yet to participate in about 75% of the Eagles’ matches in the last two years.

“Kenneth is Chelsea bound and no one can stop that. We are presently working on the technicalities to ensure he makes a swift journey to England.

“We have sought the consent of Chelsea’s new coach, Mourinho and he said he would like to work with our client. What is left is to get a visa for him and try to convince the British Home Office to grant him a work permit.

“Kenneth’s participation at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa and his inclusion in the FIFA Confederations Cup should put him in a strong position for them to issue him a work permit to enable him begin his Chelsea adventure,” the source said.

The former Sunshine Stars of Akure defender was in the Super Eagles team that beat Tahiti 6-1 in yesterday’s Brazil 2013 FIFA Confederation Cup Group B encounter.

Omeruo hints at Den Haag exit

Super Eagles’ fast rising defender, Kenneth Omeruo (MON) has spoken of his desire to leave ADO Den Haag of Holland for a top club at the end of the current campaign.

“I will leave Den Haag at the end of the season after two years wonderful experience. I will be leaving the club with good tidings having played with club that desires the progress of young footballers no matter where the player comes from.

“Den Haag is doing everything possible to either secure another loan move from Chelsea or even the option of buying me outrightly has also been revealed to me. But I want to move on to a top club. I want to improve on other aspects of my game,” the Abia born defender stated.
