Impressed Chelsea are to extend Kenneth Omeruo’s contract soon, his adviser Conleth Chika Akujobi has informed MTNFootball.com

The contract of the 20-year-old Omeruo at Stamford Bridge will be up in June 2015 and Akujobi has specially revealed that talks are on-going for a new deal for the highly promising defender.

“Chelsea are happy with Kenneth and they will extend his contract as a result,” he said.

Akujobi will join Omeruo from his Dutch base of Rotterdam today for the trip to English Championship side Middlesbrough, where the player has agreed a five-month loan deal. The Nigeria star spent a season and a half at Dutch club ADO Den Haag on loan from Chelsea.

“Kenneth was at Middlesbrough and he liked what he saw there and has accepted to move on loan there till the end of the season,” Akujobi said.

“They were once in the Premier League and so have some great facilities and also have ambitions of coming up again. We will be back at Middlesbrough on Monday to finalise the paper work for his loan deal and he could even begin training with his new club on Tuesday.”

Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni featured for ‘Boro when they were in the top flight.

KESHI REVEALS: Omeruo will leave Chelsea

Nigeria head coach, Stephen Keshi, has confirmed to supersport.com that Kenneth Omeruo, will leave Chelsea on loan.

Keshi said it is imperative for the centre-back to leave Stamford Bridge to secure regular playing time to boost his World Cup chance with Nigeria.

“I know he will leave Chelsea soon and it will be on loan. This is a World Cup year and I’ve told him that he needs to be playing regularly to have a chance of being part of the team to the World Cup,” said the Nigerian manager to supersport.com from Port Harcourt on Friday.

The 20-year-old defender last season spent 18 months on loan at Dutch club, ADO Den Haag and Keshi believes that the spell helped the young centre half’s development.

“Kenneth is an important player for us and he showed that during the (Africa) Cup of Nations. It was good at the time that he spent his time on loan in The Netherlands (with ADO Den Haag after signing for Chelsea) and that helped his career well.

“I believe he will leave Chelsea soon (on loan) to have playing time since this is a World Cup year,” said the former Mali and Togo manager.

Omeruo made his debut for Nigeria in a goalless draw with Cape Verde in a friendly match earlier this year and played a key role in the Super Eagles’ run up to winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

    Swansea battle QPR for Omeruo

EPL side Swansea will battle several Championship sides including QPR for Kenneth Omeruo for a loan deal in January.

The agent of the Nigeria international defender Obinna Emelogu Chukwudi specially informed MTNFootball.com that the latest interest for a loan deal for his player have come from Swansea City and QPR among others.

“There have been some interests from both the English Premier League and the Championship for Kenneth,” Emelogu disclosed.

“From the EPL, we have had the likes of Swansea City and Hull City, while in the Championship we have got Queens Park Rangers, Watford and Huddersfield Town. A decision on where the player will go will only be known in January, but Chelsea would prefer he stays in England and that he joins a decent club on loan till the end of the season.”

The 20-year-old Omeruo, who has been on a season and a half loan at Dutch club Ado Den Haag, has continued to train with the Chelsea main squad and has also featured for the London team’s U21 team and reserves.

  • Mourinho has ‘faith’ in Omeruo

    Mourinho has ‘faith’ in Omeruo

Chelsea defender, Kenneth Omeruo, has been told he has a future at the club by Portuguese manager, Jose Mourinho.

Omeruo spent the 2012/13 season on loan at Eredivisie club, ADO Den Haag where he made 27 appearances in the league.

He opted not to renew the alliance with the Alles Door Oefening and returned to Stamford Bridge instead.

Four months into the 2013/14 season, the 20-year-old has just a handful of youth team appearances under his belt and with several talents at the disposal of the “Special One,” Omeruo’s chances of forcing his way into the first-team look pretty grim.

The centre-half however believes he did not make a mistake not renewing his loan deal at Den Haag and explained that Mourinho has assured him that he will eventually get his chance at Chelsea.

“I did not make a mistake leaving ADO Den Haag. It was time to move on and only injury has slowed me down this season,” Omeruo told supersport.com.

Omeruo injured his shoulder in the summer and after undergoing a surgical procedure to repair the damage, the centre-half made a return to duty and even played for Nigeria in a World Cup qualifying playoff against Ethiopia on November 16.

He believes his career is now back on track.

  • Omeruo: Great feeling to qualify for World Cup

Omeruo: Great feeling to qualify for World Cup

There are few players who, aged 20 years old, have tasted success in a major international tournament as well as helping their side qualify for a World Cup in Brazil, but for Blues defender Kenneth Omeruo, that is precisely the position he currently finds himself in.

It’s been a memorable year for the Nigerian, who last weekend helped his home nation overcome Ethiopia in their World Cup play-off, with the Super Eagles, for whom John Mikel Obi and Victor Moses also played, securing their place at next summer’s finals courtesy of a 4-1 aggregate victory.

It capped a solid period for Omeruo, who, as well as playing every game for the Nigeria side which triumphed at the Africa Cup of Nations last January, started every match during their Confederations Cup campaign, before returning to Stamford Bridge ahead of the new season following a loan spell at ADO Den Haag.

“It’s a great feeling to qualify for the World Cup,” he tells the official Chelsea website. “The last time we didn’t qualify for the Nations Cup, even though I wasn’t involved, I know the supporters didn’t take it lightly, so we knew we had to make it to Brazil, and I’m happy to be part of the team.

“There was quite a bit of pressure on us going into the second leg because we knew how good the Ethiopians were, despite the fact we won the away leg 2-1. We knew they could play and we knew what they were capable of, so all credit goes to our coach because he told us to pressurise them and not let them dictate the pace of the game and it worked perfectly for us.

“Playing in a World Cup is something I always dreamed of as a kid and when I was injured I was just hoping and praying that I would be back in time to play a part. I want to say thank you to the Chelsea medical staff because they made it possible for me to be able to play, so I was very happy.”

Omeruo signed for the Blues in January 2012 and was immediately loaned out to Den Haag, where he stayed for the remainder of that campaign and the whole of the following one.

His displays at the Cup of Nations were made all the more impressive given the fact he had only made his debut for the senior side shortly before the beginning of the tournament in a game against Cape Verde.

Manager Stephen Keshi had seen enough, however, to convince him of the youngster’s abilities, and Omeruo produced a number of mature displays as Nigeria overcame the likes of Ivory Coast and Mali prior to beating Burkina Faso in the final.

“It felt amazing to win the Africa Cup of Nations,” he recalls. “Going to play in Holland was a good decision because it gave me a lot of experience in the Eredivisie. Because of that, I was ready when I got called up for the tournament and I felt I did well, but the fact I was playing regularly for Den Haag played a big part.

“The reaction back home was unbelievable; it was a period in Nigeria when there were a lot of problems, but winning that trophy meant everybody was happy. All the people came out into the streets to welcome us back and it was a big celebration, so it’s something I’ll always remember.”

After 18 months plying his trade and gaining invaluable first team experience in the Netherlands, Omeruo returned to Chelsea and, having recovered from the shoulder injury which he sustained in the Confederations Cup, he made his first appearance for the Blues in last month’s Under-21 game against West Ham United.

Pressed on whether he now feels the benefits of his time in Holland, his response is emphatic.

“Yes I do,” he says. “Den Haag are a really great team for young players; they have a fantastic coach, it’s a very friendly club and they always offer a lot of advice to the youngsters. I would always encourage any player to go there because it helped me develop my game a great deal.

“I didn’t finish the game against West Ham because I’d just come back from injury so I was short of fitness and I had a bit of cramp, but it felt really good to finally pull on a Chelsea shirt. The game ended 3-3 but I was pleased with my performance.”

While his Chelsea journey remains in its infancy, it comes as no surprise that a player whose career has begun in a promising manner is setting his sights high when looking ahead.

“My biggest goal is to play for the Chelsea first team and establish myself as a regular in the side,” he says.

“For now, I just want to concentrate on playing my football for Chelsea but of course I want to make the Nigeria squad for the World Cup in the summer as well.”

  • Omeruo to reclaim Eagles shirt

    Omeruo to reclaim Eagles shirt

Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo is set to reclaim his place in the Eagles starting XI against Ethiopia on Saturday in Calabar, MTNFootball.com reports.

Omeruo has been sidelined by a shoulder injury, which he suffered at the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil, and Warri Wolves skipper Azubuike Egwuekwe has deputised in his absence.

The 20-year-old Omeruo partnered Godfrey Oboabona when Nigeria won a third AFCON title in February.

Omeruo’s change will effectively mean, Nigeria will start with an all-Europe-based cast.

Otherwise, it will be a familiar Eagles line-up by Keshi on Saturday.

Stand-in skipper Vincent Enyeama, who has posted 11 clean sheets for his French Lique 1 side Lille this season, will retain his number 1 shirt against Ethiopia.

Full back positions will be manned by Celtic utility player Efe Ambrose and Elderson Echiejile.

Ogenyi Onazi will pair Mikel Obi in the heart of the midfield while Victor Moses and Ahmed Musa will take charge of the wings.

Emmanuel Emenike will again be given the license to shoot down Ethiopia, while Dynamo Kiev striker Brown Ideye will most likely combine with him in the attack.

“I want to thank all Nigerians for their prayers and especially our coach (Stephen Keshi) who was in touch with me regularly during the period of my injury.”

Omeruo is expected to resume his partnership with Godfrey Oboabona in the heart of the Eagles defence against Ethiopia in Calabar on Saturday.

Kenneth Omeruo has caught the eye of manager Jose Mourinho during Chelsea training, MTNFootball.com reports.

“Kenneth has impressed Mourinho at training with Chelsea and it is looking very good for him now since his surgery for a shoulder problem,” the player’s adviser Chika Akujobi informed MTNFootball.com

“The ‘Special One’ has taken special interest in the player. He wants to give him a chance but first Kenneth must regain full match fitness.”

Mourinho is expected to soon take a decision on the immediate future of the 20-year-old defender, whether he stays put at Chelsea or goes on a short-term loan.

  • Omeruo knows fate today

    Omeruo knows fate today

Injured Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo will on today be given a comeback date after making a remarkable recovery from a shoulder operation.

MTNFootball.com has specially gathered that Nigeria international Omeruo will meet with specialists in London on today for them to assess his recovery and put a date when he could be back in action. Initial diagnosis was that he will be out for eight weeks after the surgery on August 14.

Omeruo’s adviser Chika Conleth Akujobi told MTNFootball.com:”Kenneth is doing very well, he has made a remarkable recovery, even quicker than expected. He will visit the specialists on Wednesday to know when he could return to action.”

The 19-year-old defender has already begun light jogging apart from the Chelsea squad. Akujobi said the only downside for Omeruo is that he misses the Super Eagles. He has thus far missed the team’s wins over South Africa and Malawi.

“He’s of course missing the Super Eagles and he said he can’t wait to join them as soon as possible, but the most important is he is getting better,” he revealed.

Omeruo has used the time on the sidelines to visit Nigeria stars Rabiu Ibrahim and Gabriel Reuben in neighbouring Scotland and also to get to know London better. He has secured a work permit to feature in the English Premier League after a loan spell at Dutch club ADO Den Haag.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is to decide on the player’s future as soon as he is fit again.
