  • You have no moral right to claim Omo-Agege’s seat, ex-Milad tells Emerhor

A former military administrator of Abia State, and National Caucus Member of the All Progressives Congress, AVM Frank Ajobena (rtd) has taken a swipe at Olorogun O’tega Emerhor over his claim that he is now the Senator-elect for Delta central as a result of the ruling of the Federal High Court in Asaba, saying Emerhor has no moral right to claim the electoral victory of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege who emerged winner of the March 23 Delta Central senatorial election.

AVM Ajobena also accused Emerhor of pretending to be in support of a candidate from Delta North senatorial district of the state as the APC governorship candidate during the build-up to the 2019 gubernatorial election.

Following a ruling by a Federal High Court, Asaba that Chief Cyril Ogodo led-Exco was the legitimate executive of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Delta State, Emerhor had described himself as the “senate-elect” for the district, but Ajobena said that Emerhor has no moral right to make that claim.

The former governor said Emerhor worked against Omo-Agege’s emergence for the Senate and didn’t contribute anything but God helped the party, and Omo-Agege was popular enough to attract votes that earned him victory, the margin would have been wider if he had the support of O’tega. So, on what moral grounds would Emerhor be spoiling to take the trophy from that contest?”

Speaking on the status of State Executive of Delta APC, AVM Ajobena said “There are two sides to the court judgement. One side of the story is on the legitimacy of the Ogodo executive. I believe there was justice in that direction. The other side of the story is on whether Emerhor should claim that seat, I don’t think he should take that seat if there is any way the law could interpret it.

Ajobena said Emerhor created confusion among that group (Delta North) to the extent that they could not even come up with a candidate.

“He didn’t want any of them to emerge. Yet, the Ogodo-led executive was to be the platform to present a Delta North candidate for the party with all the northern candidates including Chief Okotie Osiobe except Chief Great Ogboru being on the Mainstream Delta APC platform which was being championed by Emerhor.

“But Emerhor made sure he created confusion among these people and ensured that none of them emerges. At the surface, you will think he is supporting a Delta North candidate but in reality, he wasn’t interested in any of them neither was he supporting Ogboru but was working for himself and calculating for 2023.

“He wants to be governor of Delta State in 2023 and wasn’t supporting any APC governorship aspirant for 2019.

He saw it that if Ogboru emerges, Ogboru will want to do 8 years, so how will that help his cause in 2023. So, to justify what he is doing, he claims to support a northern candidate, but in same way, what is the guarantee that if a northern candidate emerges, he will serve for a one term hence he wasn’t comfortable with that.

  • Comedian I Go Dye congratulates Okowa

In his usual way of lending his voice to political activities in the country, notable stand-up comedian, Francis Agoda, a.k.a I Go Dye, has sent a congratulatory message to governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State for his re-election.

I congratulate you because it’s an overwhelming victory and your personality as a humble man, reflected in Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, not as the executive Governor of Delta state that won you a second chance to be re-elected,” he said, while appealing to oppositions, including Great Ogboru, Emmanuel Uduaghan, Senator Omo Agege and the entire people of Delta State to embrace peace and work together for the development of the state.

At this point, I kindly call on all Deltans, most especially the political class to embrace one another. This should be a moment to build our state and bring about even development in all sectors, irrespective of party affiliations. We should nurture a common goal of unity and develop the state. I appeal to Great Ogboru, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, Omo Agege and all political class in Delta State to work with Okowa to develop the state.”

He has a word, especially for Omo Agege:

I also use this medium to congratulate Sen. Omo Agege, who shall be representing us for the second time, to work effortlessly to drive the course of opening all our sea ports to create jobs for our youths. If in his favor God grants him the honour of becoming the next Senate President, he should work in the path of nobility and accord a friendly disposition to the governor of Delta State. The level of development which is desired in Delta State honestly requires the collective responsibility and support of every one. We cannot achieve the goal of development without cooperation of oneness and above partisan affiliations. Let’s forge on a new path of sacrifice and lasting peace, with just one goal as brothers and sisters. Once more congratulations to you all”, he said..

  • Sen Omo-Agege and senate presidency

OVIE Omo-Agege is doubtless one of the most controversial senators of the 8th Senate. He represents Delta Central. While serving suspension from the Senate last year, he was alleged to have placed himself squarely at the centre of an operation that saw thugs invade the Senate in April 2018, and in the process stole the mace. He had been suspended on April 12, 2018 for his disruptive actions during a consideration of the electoral amendment bill which the presidency was not favourably disposed to. Six days later, he was alleged to have led a band of lowlives to steal the mace in a dramatic fashion. He denied the accusation, but no one believed him.

The controversial senator will be one of the very few senators from the South-South or Southeast in the 9th Senate. Had he been a lawmaker of exemplary conduct, he would have been one of those actively considered for the senate presidency. But not only was he controversial in a strong-arm fashion, and still is, he is also unduly self-serving and servile. Speaking to the press mid-week, he took away from the Senate the responsibility of electing their leaders and placed it grovelingly at the feet of the president. ”Anybody who is going to be Senate President, in the 9th Senate, must be somebody who is loyal to Mr President, the party and the constitution,” he fawned. “The Senate President will be determined by Mr President. Mr President will indicate to us through the party who he wants to work with.”

He offered this position based on the lessons learnt by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) when the party amateurishly let Bukola Saraki seize the senate leadership after the 2015 elections. Both the party and the president were subsequently unable to grapple with the unorthodox, if sometimes rebellious, leadership of Sen Saraki. Had Sen Omo-Agege not been the servile, indecorous lawmaker he had sheepishly grown to become, he would have been silent on whatever role he expected the president to play in the election of National Assembly leaders. Decency demands that whatever input the president would like to make in that important process would be done behind closed doors and with all sense of responsibility. Neither the APC nor the excited Sen Omo-Agege needed to voice those plans.

  • Buhari’ll decide senate presidency – Omo-Agege

The senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege says President Muhammadu Buhari will be actively involved in the process of selecting the next leadership of the Senate.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Warri, Omo-Agege said the President and the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) would avoid the 2015 mistake that led to the emergence of Sen. Bukola Saraki as the president of the Senate.

‘‘Anybody who is going to be Senate President, in the 9th Senate, must be somebody who is loyal to Mr President, the party and the constitution.

‘‘The Senate President will be determined by Mr President. Mr President will indicate to us through the party who he want to work with,’’ Omo-Agege said.

The ruling APC is set to produce the next Senate president after winning the majority of senatorial seats at the upper legislative chamber in the Feb. 23 election.

Asked if APC has zoned the senate presidency to any geo-political zone, the lawmaker said ‘‘I do not know.’’

‘‘But what I can tell you is that we are going to have a Senate that will work with Mr President.

‘‘The era of allowing renegades who rode on the back of Mr President, who rode on the back of the party to go in there and trade the party’s mandate, I think that era is gone.

‘‘I am very hopeful that this time around, Mr President will step in and decide not only the zone that will produce the Senate president and the leadership but also who should be.

‘‘We don’t want to erect another opposition leader in the Senate, as we had in the 8th Assembly.

‘‘There are a lot of us in the Senate who are returning to the next senate who fits into that position. We are so many but any decision the President makes, we will all fall in line and abide.

‘‘We want President Buhari to succeed and it is all in our place, some of us who are close to him, to tell him certain calls he should not make because we know ourselves in the National Assembly and we do not want a repeat of the Saraki saga as we go back to the ninth Senate.’’ he said.

Speaking on the upcoming Saturday’s election, Omo-Agege said the APC stood a chance to win the March 9 governorship elections in Delta, saying ‘‘Delta people are determined not to be in the opposition again.’’

  • UPU greets Buhari, Omo-Agege on victory

The Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his re-election.

A statement by UPU’s President-General, Olorogun Moses Taiga, prayed that Buhari’s second term will bring a fresh breath of air to Nigerians. He urged the President to work towards uniting Nigeria which was “fragmented by the election”.

He reminded President Buhari that he is yet to fulfill the promises he made when UPU and Urhobo monarchs visited him in 2018.

Buhari had promised to look into complaints of the military selling land given to it by Urhobo Communities in Uvwie and Okpe for private use.

Taiga had requested that the unused lands be returned to the host communities.

Olorogun Taiga also requested for increased funding for the Federal University of Petroleum, among other demands, during the 2018 visit to the president.

The union congratulated Senator Ovie Omo-Agege (who represents the Urhobo nation); Francis Waive, member-elect for Udu, Ughelli North and Ughelli South Federal Constituency; Efe Afe, member-elect for Sapele, Okpe, Uvwie Federal Constituency, and Ben Ibakpa, member-elect, Ethiope Federal Constituency, on their election.

It urged them to use their positions to bring more developments to Urhobo land. According to him, UPU looks forward to a formidable partnership with them to quicken development of Urhoboland.

  • Senator Omo-Agege re-elected

Results for the Senate and House of Representatives in last Saturday’s election in Delta state started trickling out on Monday evening.

After a rather slow and tiring process, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released some of the results in the Delta Central and South Senatorial Districts.

  • UPU endorse Buhari, Ogboru, Omo-Agege

The Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) has endorsed President Muhammedu Buhari, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru and Sen Ovie Omo-Agege as candidates for the Urhobo nation.

A statement by the President-General, Chief Joe Omene, and National Secretary Martins Umukoro, including the youth, women and men wings, said the union endorsed Buhari for having picked an Urhobo son as governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Omene, who addressed union members, said Urhobo will not and cannot vote or support anybody and party that plans to sell the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) or any other public property.

He said: “We reject the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Atiku Abubakar because he vowed to sell NNPC, same attitude he exhibited when they bought DSC and NEPA when he was Vice President to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

“Ogboru is the only candidate that is best recognised and accepted by all Deltans. Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is the worse governor Delta State has ever had since its creation.

“Ogboru has been winning election but has always been rigged out because of the PDP powers at the federal level, but thank God that power is no longer there.”

Omene added that the Urhobo nation could not continue to have one tenure senator in the House of Asembly, hence they endorsed Senator Ovie Omo-Agege for a second term because he has performed well and needs to go back as a principal officer in 2019.

  • Omo-Agege empowers 250 women

Member representing Delta Central at the Senate Ovie Omo-Agege, at the weekend, empowered 150 Catholic women in Udu Local Government, with N5 million.

Those empowered were from SS Peter and Paul, Saint Theresa Catholic Church, both in Ughelli, and God’s Delight Gospel Assembly, Udu.

Each woman got N20,000. Speaking while presenting the gift in Ughelli,  Omo-Agege said the empowerment was part of his campaign promises to appreciate those who supported him during in 2015.

Omo-Agege said: “The essence of this empowerment  is to encourage the women who are into petty trades but have no much money, but rather, buy some of the goods on credit with the promise to pay back, but with this N20,000 given to them, they can now get their goods, sell and make their little gains.

“At God’s Delight Gospel Assembly, Udu,  100 women were selected from different branches while at St Peters and Paul and Saint Theresa Catholic Church, Ughelli, 150 were empowered with N20,000 each’’.

Some beneficiaries; Mrs. Geradile Udochi, Mrs. Idiruka Ejiofor, Miss Felix Mabel, and President of Catholic Women Organisation at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church Mrs. Veronica Akpomiemie prayed that God continues to bless Omo-Agege.

The Parish Priest, Rev. Godwin Orovwudje, who also praised Omo-Agege for empowering the women, said the church would continue to pray for him.

Speaking when his campaign team visited Ewu, Okparabe and Arhavwarien wards in Ughelli South, Omo-Agege urged the people to support APC governorship candidate in Delta State, Great Ogboru.

He canvassed votes for President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I approached the President on the state of Sapele/Agbor federal highway and because Buhari is APC President, he quickly approved the reconstruction of the road with N5 billion, and you can also see that the railway project that was abandoned by the past administration has picked up and is functioning as we speak.”

“We all know that it was Buhari’s administration that ensured that the pension of DSC workers were paid, as well as put in motion the resuscitation of the steel plant. He has done much for us and there is need to reciprocate by voting for him.

“I have heard your requests, but I assured you that by my next tenure, your water and solar street light requests will be done. It is the turn of Okparabe, on Arhavwarien Bridge and water scheme, I will ensure these are done as l return back to the house.

“Apart from the bridge, l will also attract Federal Government projects to the area and if Ogboru becomes the governor, all these will become a reality.”
