OMOTOLA plays steamy role in new movie

AS the year 2016 winds down, it seems that Nollywood actress, Omotola Jolade-Ekeinde, may have decided to take her career to a new level. On Thursday, a controversial clip surfaced of the actress in a movie titled ‘Alter Ego’ and her role in the flick has been generating a lot of buzz in the cyberspace.

In the one minute-long clip, the actress portrays a character of a woman with identity crisis. Going by the video, Omotola plays the lawyer with a successful career but has an alter ego who indulges in nasty lifestyles.

The real kicker for viewers is the sex scenes which appear so blatant. The actress is seen ‘doing it’ with different men at different scenes, sometimes clothed, sometimes half-clad and yet, other times, somewhat nude.

Some of the sex scenes have been described by fans as very vivid.

As one of the founding figures of what has come to be known as Nollywood, Omosexy, as she is widely referred to, has been known to be on the conservative side. With over 20 years of experience in the industry, she has not been linked to a movie with bedroom scenes as vivid as depicted in ‘Alter Ego’.

The only time she came close was in the movie, ‘The Prostitute’ produced some years back, co-starring Segun Arinze.

Although the actress admitted having used a body double in the sex scenes, she also revealed that the movie caused a lot of controversies as it threatened her marriage.

    OMOTOLA CELEBRATES TWENTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

IN a world where the age old institution called marriage has become as disposable as the paper on which the certificates are written, star actress Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde has been able to keep her marriage for close twenty years. The diva got married to Captain Matthew Ekehinde in 1996. Their long standing marriage proves wrong the often touted statement that actresses can’t keep a marriage, and a home.

Presently in Honolulu, in the tropical island of Hawaii on vacation ahead of her twentieth wedding anniversary coming up in a couple of days. The diva posted pictures of her and her hubby on Instagram. The marriage of Omotola and her pilot husband is blessed with four children; two daughters and two sons,

Omotola is blessed with looks that belie the fact that she is the mother of four grown kids, and has credited her choice of husband, and her decision to marry at the tender age of eighteen as two of the secrets of her successful marriage. Apparently believing that had she put of getting married, she would probably still have been single today. As she once said, “If I hadn’t been married earlier, I probably would not be by now. I don’t know if any other man would have been able to handle me the way my husband has done. It is not because I am a bad person. I am actually a very strong woman. I consider myself to be lucky to remain married. I don’t care much about it. I don’t even want to think about that because I got married early. What I always tell people is that all fingers are not equal. The fact that I got married early does not mean that my own child will get married early. My mother didn’t marry early. So it is not hereditary. But if my daughter wants to get married early and I like the guy and if I see that he is responsible enough, why not?”

Despite Djansi’s ‘insult’, Omotola shows she’s friends with Ghanaians

Barely a week after her colleagues lashed at Ghanaian filmmaker; Leila Djansi for referring to Nollywood as Adolf Hitler, Nigerian actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde took her 38th birthday celebrations to Accra, Ghana, where she made merry with other female celebrities.

Actress Stella Damasus it was who first slammed the Ghanaian producer for disparaging Nollywood, in an attempt to praise the new crop of Nigerian filmmakers for their inventiveness. Others followed suit in a renewed battle of supremacy between the film industries of Nigeria and Ghana.

In defense of Nollywood, Damasus had listed Omotola amongst the Nollywood actors she believed were insulted by Djansi’s utterance.

According to the actress who is now based in the United States, Djansi’s statement amounts to an insult to the likes of Kenneth Nnebue, Tade Ogidan, Kingsley Ogoro, Segun Arinze, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Genevieve Nnaji, Funke Akindele, and others who have taken Nollywood to its present position. She added that one of the factors that made Djansi’s 2011 film, Ties that Bind, strong was because she used “one of our best – Omotola Jalade Ekeinde.”

But at Omotola’s birthday bash last Sunday, the birthday girl did not show any any ill feeling. Although Djansi was not at the birthday bash, guests in attendance include Penelope Jones-Mensah, Ellen Thomas, Joselyn Dumas, Becca, Victoria Michaels, Bouchra Ait-Amar, Pierrette Vordzogbe among others.

While speaking to the local press during her visit, the actress made headlines for saying she cannot share space with award-winning American actress, Taraji P. Henson who plays Cookie Lyon on the hit Fox show, Empire.

Omotola while responding to speculations she is auditioning for a role in Empire, was reported to have said, “Is that a rumour in Ghana?” she asked.”Oh U.S? Maybe they want me to be in “Empire.” But then they would have to remove Taraji, because I’m a diva, I can’t share space with her.”

Empire is a TV series that revolves around Hip-hop artist and CEO of Empire Entertainment, Lucious Lyon, and his family. The series stars Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Jussie Smollett, Grace Gealey, Ta’Rhonda Jones, Kaitlin Doubleday and Bryshere Y. Gray among others.

Popular Nollywood star Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, star musician D’Banj and others are involved in a campaign seeking an end to abuse of women and the girl-child.

The campaign, being championed by ONE.org, involves nearly seven million people taking action to end extreme poverty and preventable disease.

They intend to achieve this with the theme, ‘Poverty is Sexist’ and a remix of the song: ‘Strong Girls’, which is about women’s empowerment and justice, written by Arielle T, Blessing, Gabriella, Judith Sephuma, Selmor Mtukudzi, Vanessa Mdee, Victoria Kimani, Waje and Yemi Alade . The remix will feature D’Banj, Diamond, Banky W, Femi Kuti, Bono and will be produced by Cobhams Asuquo.

Our message is loud and it’s impossible to ignore, I hope that our leaders are listening.” Omotola said.

  • Omotola, others unite to fight poverty

Omotola, others unite to fight poverty

An outstanding line-up of top women musicians from across Africa including Waje, Omotola and YemiAlade have joined forces with ONE to create a brand new song called Strong Girl, a rally cry to empower girls and women everywhere.

Nine artists from seven African countries came together in South Africa earlier this month to write and record the track. They were joined by Nollywood superstar actress and activist OmotolaJaladeEkeinde, who stars in the Strong Girl video. The women are calling for action because poverty is sexist, and we won’t end it unless world leaders act now to help girls and women reach their full potential. The track and video was released on May 13, 2015 along with a global day of action amplifying the songs message and recruiting thousands worldwide to the fight for justice.

This year, new global goals to end poverty will be set by world leaders. To be truly transformative, the goals must focus on the countries and the people that are worst off, and that includes girls and women. Evidence shows that investing in girls and women helps their families, communities and whole economies too.

Talented Nigerian singer, Waje has said the campaign means a lot to her. “This is one of the most profound things I have done in my life. I am doing this for the African woman so she doesn’t have to die in childbirth. I am doing this so that girls in rural Africa can complete primary school education. I am doing this because it is the right and smart thing to do. Empowering girls and women is an idea whose time has come”.

Also speaking as regards the campaign, top Nollywood actress, OmotolaJalade said “I am fortunate to be a young woman living her dreams and a trailblazer of my generation but I also recognize that many women and girls are not so fortunate. Women and girls are disproportionately affected by the injustice of poverty and inequality. But when we invest in women and girls, we increase and accelerate the chances of overcoming extreme poverty”.

On International Women’s Day, ONE published a policy report that revealed the scale of the gender gap in the world’s poorest countries, and how unlocking the potential of girls and women could transform lives. ONE’s call to action is already backed by more 36 of the world’s most powerful women, including Beyoncé, Meryl Streep, Lady Gaga, Angelique Kidjo and other leading women from the worlds of business, arts, politics and activism. They have written an open letter to Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel and African Union Commission Chair NkosazanaDlamini-Zuma, who both host crucial summits in the coming months that should set us on a path to agreeing Global Goals that put women’s empowerment at their heart.
