    Ondo APC hails PDP defectors

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has praised former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members-Senator Ayo Akinyelure and Dr. Pius Ogunyinkanmi- for joining the progressives.

The party saluted their courage and their resolve to align with the Federal Government’s change agenda and determination to work with the APC to change the administration in Ondo State next year.

A statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, said: “We assure them that the APC is open, ready and prepared to accept them into its fold and treat them with all the respect they deserve.

“This present move by these gentlemen and their supporters should serve as an encouragement and eye-opener to all progressives still in the PDP and other parties to do the needful- join the APC.

“We urge them to take action now by joining hands with us to end the strange rule of one man in the state.”

    Ondo APC women demand slot

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Forum in Ondo State has pleaded with party stakeholders to consider a woman as the deputy governorship candidate.

They advocated 35 per cent political appointments, assuring that the party would win next year’s election.

The women spoke yesterday when they hosted a governorship aspirant from the North Senatorial District, Chief Bukola Adetula, at the state secretariat in Akure.

The woman leader in the Central District, Mrs Lola Sesay, noted that women constitute the largest proportion of voters in the country.

She said: “We should demand that 35 per cent be set aside for women and this must be adhered to. We should also demand the removal of artificial barriers against women participating in politics.”

Adetula urged APC leaders and supporters to “shine their eyes” ahead of next year’s election and support the person that could lead them to the promised land.

The aspirant promised to provide jobs and basic things of life through visionary leadership.

Ondo APC to govt: get more teachers

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has criticised the government for failing to employ more teachers.

The party, in a statement by its spokesman, Steve Otaloro, said if steps were not taken by Governor Olusegun Mimiko, the  educational system would collapse.

The statement said despite the National Certificate of Education (NCE) holders withdrawn from local councils and deployed to schools, there still remained a wide gap to be filled.

It said: “The number of such ‘hurry-hurry’ teachers can be likened to a situation when a spoon is used to fetch water into the Atlantic.

“In most of the schools only the headteachers and some three or four teachers are available in schools where there ought to be between 15 and 21 teachers. One would then wonder what kind of knowledge is being imparted on these pupils.”

On the N3,000 levy imposed by the government on the pupils of the mega schools, APC called for its cancellation, saying such a step negated its so-called “Caring Heart” slogan.

I’ll unite Ondo APC, says minister-designate, Daramola

The Minister- designate from Ondo State, Prof. Omoyele Daramola, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for counting him worthy to serve the nation.

Daramola also told reporters on phone in Akure, the state capital, that he holds no grudge against his adversaries who criticised his nomination.

While expressing his appreciation to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for standing by him during his screening by the National Assembly, he promised to contribute his quota to the development of Nigeria and leave indelible achievements during his tenure.

He said: “I hold no grudge against anybody; I have forgiven my adversaries. I thank those who stood by me and those who did not support me during the screening by the Senate. Nigeria needs to move forward. APC as a party must continue to progress.

“We need to sustain the current tempo of credibility, peace and popularity APC as a political party now has in Ondo State. All hands must be on deck if the party must move forward. I will forever be grateful to President Buhari and the leadership of my party for this gesture.”

    •Suspends spokesman

The All Progressives Congresss (APC) in Ondo State has expressed reservation over the appointment of Prof. Omoyele Daramola as the state’s nominee for ministerial position.

In a statement issued at the weekend after the end of its State Working Committee (SWC) and signed by the Secretary, Rahman Rotimi, and Youth Leader, Babalayo Olutayo, the APC leaders said while President Muhammadu Buhari has the prerogative to appoint anybody of his choice, they, however, kicked against the choice of Daramola as the ministerial nominee from the state.

The SWC said it would forward its stance on Daramola’s appointment to leaders of the party in the South West leaders for onward transmission to the president.

And in another development, the Ondo APC has suspended its Publicity Secretary, Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya.

His suspension, sources say, might not be unconnected with his reaction to the appointment of Daramola as a ministerial nominee.

Adesanya had on behalf of the party hailed the president for Daramola’s appointment, a statement that did not go down well with some party leaders in the state.

Daramola hails from Ode-Aye in Okitipupa local government of the state. He contested the state chairmanship position against the incumbent, Mr. Isaac Kekemeke, but lost.

Sources at the APC leaders’ meeting said Kekemeke maintained that Adesanya’s reaction was contrary to the stand of the party on the ministerial nominee.

Ondo APC: Akinyelure promises credible primary

The National Vice Chairman (South West) of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Chief Pius Akinyelure, has assured all aspirants jostling for the governorship ticket of the party to contest next year’s governorship election in Ondo State of a free, fair and credible primary election.

Akinyelure said the party has laid precedence in picking its presidential candidate through a transparent primary election.

The APC chieftain spoke with reporters at the party’s secretariat in Akure, the state capital, shortly before attending a meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC).

Akinyelure said there will be no imposition in the party, saying the party would always follow due process in choosing its candidates.

He urged party supporters to rally round and work assiduously to facilitate its victory in the 2016 governorship election.

  • Ondo APC decries Okada ban

    Ondo APC decries Okada ban

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has criticised the ban on commercial motorcycles, popularly called Okada, in Akure, the state capital.

A statement by its Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Adesanya, said Governor Olusegun Mimiko cannot ban Okada riders without enabling laws by the House of Assembly.

This action, he said, must pass through public hearing, due consultations and sensitisation with relevant stakeholders and the public.

The statement said: “We reject the governor’s actions and pronouncements in its entirety. It is draconian, illegal, null and void, and we are sure, it will not stand the test of time.

“We, therefore, call on the Commissioner of Police, Isaac Eke, to stop the arrest and harassment of the people.”

  • Ondo APC to PDP: Apologise to Nigerians for bad governance

Ondo APC to PDP: Apologise to Nigerians for bad governance

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to apologise to Nigerians for inflicting what it called “bad governance and mismanagement of the country’s resources for 16 years, and most particularly in the last six years.”

In a statement made available to reporters in Akure, the state capital, the Publicity Secretary of the party Abayomi Adesanya, said with the huge mess inherited by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government, nothing short of tendering an unreserved apology by Jonathan and his party would assuage the pains suffered by Nigerians for 16 years.

The party added, “Jonathan and PDP brought this country into domestic and international odium and disrepute, serious economic crisis, insecurity, unemployment, unprecedented corruption at all levels, abuse of state apparatus (Military and Police), disobedience of court orders, religious crisis and ethnicity, among others.

“But rather than for PDP and Jonathan to be remorseful and apologetic, they were making unwarranted excuses and cover- up that is baseless and insulting to the sensitivity of Nigerians.”

It added, “It is laughable listening to the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, saying his party was considering 30 days before appraising President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

“Only of recent, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, disclosed that the current administration under Buhari has increased Nigeria’s foreign reserves from $29 billion to $31.89 billion in just one month.

“What more, the anti-graft bodies that were hitherto moribund, are now active and responsive, docking former governors and bureaucrats.”

Ondo APC raises alarm over ‘distressed’ Govt House

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has raised the alarm over what it has described as the imminent collapse of the Government House, Akure, the state capital.

The House was built during the Second Republic by the first civilian Governor of old Ondo State, the late Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin.

The party said the Olusegun Mimiko administration awarded a N450million contract to revive the disctressed building.

The APC said the reconstruction and rehabilitation were poorly handled as the contractor failed to use quality materials.

“The building has been facing all sorts of challenges, mostly attributed to engineering failures,” it said.

Its Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Adesanya, said the manner in which the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government had handled some sensitive projects was appalling.

It emphasised that Mimiko ought to have complemented the legacies of his predecessors by giving the state a befitting Government House that would stand the test of time.

On the alleged relocation of the governor and his family to his Ondo home town, the statement said the movement was uncalled for since the Government House has more than two luxury edifices.

“The governor has ulterior motives and these should be investigated. Akure remains the seat of power and should be officially and legally recognised as such.”

But a government source said the APC was being mischievous.

It said rather than raise unnecessary insinuations, the party should face its multifarious challenges and mind its business.

The source maintained that the Government House has no defect.
