Ondo APC condemns Mimiko’s residency card

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has accused the government of exploiting unpaid civil servants and the masses of N2,000 to obtain residency card, ‘Kaadi Igbe Ayo’.

In a statement in Akure by its Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Adesanya, the APC said: “The over-hyped Kaadi Igbe Ayo project is another conduit pipe deliberately built to siphon public funds by the Olusegun Mimiko-led administration in Ondo State since 2009.

“Over N5billion of tax payers’ money has been reportedly spent on the project without corresponding benefits for the good people of Ondo State, yet civil servants and the poor masses are being forced to pay additional N2,000 to obtain the valueless and unlawful card.

“The Ondo State APC wishes to draw the attention of the public, especially the people, to the anti-people and wicked policies of the Mimiko-led administration, which have assumed a dangerous trend.

“Governor Mimiko is now forcing the civil servants to pay N2,000 each, to obtain ‘Kaadi Igbe Ayo’. The Ondo APC sees the action as unlawful and a mere duplication of biometric records. This card is valueless, ineffective, and a misplace priority.

“It is another wicked act of Mimiko to extort money from the same civil servants who he has been denying salaries and other entitlements for months.

“This card is a duplication of effort and a waste of resources as the card carries almost the same information as the National Identity Card and the National Driver’s Licence.

“Governor Mimiko should know that, what the people desire is better life, good road network, job opportunities, revamping our moribund industries, accountability, urbanisation of our towns and villages, potable water, affordable and accessible health care services, prompt payment of salaries and entitlements of workers and pensioners.”

The party said the development was a clear act of betrayal, adding that” when the governor started the project, he promised to make the card free. Why the compulsory fee now? Is the government broke, and wants to raise money at all cost?

“These acts of wickedness and exploitation show the PDP-led administration as an anti-people government.

“ Mimiko and his team should realise that in countries where residency card is operational, it is the benefit attached to the card that really matters, not the card itself.

“ The Mimiko administration has subjected workers to poverty, sack, retrenchment, non-payment or delay of salaries since 2009. The governor must account for the over N5 billion spent on this project.

“We empathise with our civil servants and the people in this period of hardship that the administration has hatefully subjected them to.

“Ondo State civil servants and the people should find relief in the fact that, soonest, the APC-led system will present them the opportunity to vote out this bad government and its allies.”

But the government claimed that the card has shown that over 70 per cent beneficiaries of the state health care system are non-residents.

Commissioner for Health Dayo Adeyanju and the Chairman, Civic Data Centre,  Tunde Yadeka,  said this at the weekend when they toured health facilities in Akure.

  • Ondo APC to harmonise exco, elders’ forum

Ondo APC to harmonise exco, elders’ forum

The Elders Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State yesterday called for restructuring of the party.

The meeting conveyed by the Forum’s Chairman, Senator Olorunnimbe Farukanmi, in Akure North Local Government called for unity among party leaders and supporters.

A six-man committee was raised to harmonise the Isaac Kekemeke-led executive committee with the Elders Forum.

The Forum lamented that despite the calibre of experienced politicians in the Elders Assembly, they were not carried along.

The six elders assigned to meet with the National Vice Chairman (Southwest),Chief Pius Akinyelure, are Chief F.I Ayegbusi, Senator Titus Olupitan, Bola Ilori, Ademola Adegoroye, J.M Adu and Dr O. Akintade.

The Chairman, APC Campaign Committee, Prince Olu Adegboro, said everything must be done to unite the party, especially its state leadership and the Elders Forum.

  • PDP planning to rig Saturday’s polls, says Ondo APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State yesterday alerted to plans by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to manipulate Saturday’s election.

At a briefing in Akure, the state capital, yesterday, the APC Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, said: “It has come to our notice that a planned and well-coordinated effort is about to be activated to manipulate and rig the March 28 Presidential and National Assembly elections in Ondo State.

“The PDP is the architect and mastermind of this plan and the purpose is to contrive victory for its candidates.

“This alleged plan by the desperate powers in government is to involve some unscrupulous workers of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the bad eggs of Army formations in Akure and Okitipupa, the Navy command in Igbokoda, the police and other security agencies in the state. Hired militants and sponsored thugs are also substantial parts of the plot.

“We are bringing this to the notice of these organisations as well as residents because we were witnesses to the shameful acts of sabotage, dishonour and corruption, which pervaded the April 2011 and October 20, 2012, elections in Ondo in which over 150,000 illegal names were injected into the voter register.

“There will be last minute arrest of prominent APC and non-partisan popular grassroots community leaders across the 18 local governments on trump-up charges. A dress rehearsal of this had been operated in Ofosu,Igbindo, Asantan  and parts of Owo Local Government.

“During voting, they plan to create crisis and violence in the deep waterside villages of Ilaje and Apoiland as well as other rural areas of Odigbo, Ondo East, Ondo West, Idanre, Ifedore, Owo, Akoko Northwest and Irele.

“They are delaying transportation of results materials from the hinterland to local government collation centres till nightfall to create a fertile ground for violence and manipulation.

“They will use hired thugs and armed militants in military and police uniforms to hijack materials at key waterside villages in Arogbo, Sabomi, Igbotu, Kiribo, Ugbo and Mahin.

“We wish to put INEC, police, Army Navy and the DSS on notice that all eyes are on them.”

  • PDP plans to unleash terror on our leaders, Ondo APC alleges

AHEAD of next Saturday’s presidential elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the weekend alleged that some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Idanre local government area of Ondo State are planning to unleash terror on its leaders before and after the elections.

The party further alleged that some of its leaders have been pencilled down for assassination, arrest and kidnapping before the elections.

These leaders include Chief Pius Akinyelure, its Deputy National Chairman; State Deputy Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin and the Chairman of the party in Idanre local government, Chief Ojo Alalabiaye among others.

Addressing reporters at the party secretariat in Idanre, the APC chairman, in Idanre alleged that the meeting where the plot was hatched was held at Ala, the ward of Dr. Kola Ademujimi, Chief of Staff to the state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.

The APC chieftain further alleged that some PDP chieftains have paid huge sums of money to thugs to hijack the voting process and rig the elections in favour of the PDP in the community.

But in his reaction, the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, who is also an indigene of the town, denied the allegation, saying APC leaders in Idanre have no electoral value to threaten the PDP in the area.

He said, “There have been no political violence in Idanre; these APC leaders have no electoral value. In the last governorship election in the state, their party came a distant third and since then, nothing has changed.”

  • Ondo APC tackles Mimiko over unfulfilled promises

The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, for failing to deliver on his campaign promises prior to his re-election five years ago.

Addressing reporters in Akure, the state capital at the weekend, Publicity Secretary, Mr. Abayomi Adesanya, lamented that development of the state has stagnated since the advent of the present administration in the state six years ago.

According to him, while the Mimiko-led government succeeded in deceiving the people with some “cosmetic projects” in its first term in office, its second term has been characterised by massive failure with no verifiable achievements to point to.

Abayomi said, “Governor Mimiko and PDP members have no reason to celebrate six years of no visible achievement. The last six years has been characterised with pains and suffering boldly written on the faces of the people. The last six years is that of unemployment, unwarranted retrenchment, infrastructural decay, economic depression and backwardness.”

Recalling some of the unfulfilled promises of the governor, Abayomi asked, “Where is the six-lane road Mimiko promised the Akure people?  Why did he abandon all the projects, which the late Dr. Olusegun Agagu-led administration could not complete?

Famodun listed other projects promised by Mimiko to include Owena Water Dam, the Olokola Free-Trade Zone, the OK-LNG Plant, the uncompleted Akure Township Stadium at Araromi and the refinery, all of which have not come to fruition.”

Further lamenting the present poor condition of many roads in the state, Famodun added, “Almost all roads in Akoko land are in a state of disrepair; our local government areas headquarters have become mushrooms and reduced to mere looting centres. Workers’ salaries are not paid as at when due, while the Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC) set up to develop the oil producing areas communities of the state has nothing to show for the several billions of naira accruing to it for six years.”

  • Aspirant donates computer sets to Ondo APC

An aspirant for the Akure North State Constituency in the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr Leye Akinola has donated four sets of computer and printers to the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

He said the donation was to facilitate administrative convenience and easy passage of information to relevant agencies for the growth of the party.

Receiving the items, the state Chairman of the party, Isaac Kekemeke praised the donor for the gesture, even as he promised to make good use of the facilities.

Kekemeke, who was Secretary to the State Government (SSG), reiterated that there would be no imposition of any candidate on the electorate in the choice of candidates for the 2015 general elections.

He further said the party would abide by the wishes and aspirations of the people in the state and would not bow to any external interference.

According to him, those who claimed to have been endorsed by the leadership of the party outside the state are merely spreading falsehood, noting that it is an attempt to frustrate other aspirants within the party.

The chairman re-assured all aspirants as well as members of the party of level- playing field.

He appreciated God for the rising fortune of the party in the state within the shortest time.

Kekemeke revealed that prominent politicians in the state are set to join the APC soon.

Speaking with reporters shortly after presenting the computer sets, Akinola said: “The gesture was informed by my desire to contribute to the development of the party. I was also motivated by the commitment and the developmental drive of Kekemeke to the APC. I decided to run for the position so as to contribute my quota to the development of the people of my local government in particular and the state in general.”

He said he is aspiring as a party man and not as ‘group’ man, noting that he does not belong to any group but only to the APC as a party.

He said he decided to run for the position so as to contribute his quota to the development of the people of his local government in particular and the state in general.

He explained that he had executed projects that impacted positively in the lives of the people of his town.

Akinola promised to do more for APC both at state, local and ward levels for the development of the party.

  • ‘Ondo APC ready to accept LP, PDP members’

‘Ondo APC ready to accept LP, PDP members’

THE Ondo State All Progressives Congress (APC) is ready to accept progressives from Labour Party (LP) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the planned defection of Governor Olusegun Mimiko.

APC said as Mimiko prepares to join the PDP from LP, serving commissioners, House of Assembly and National Assembly members have opened talks with it.

With the development, the party Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, said the “long time confusion” over the identity of true progressive politicians has now ended.

The party chieftain, who spoke in Akure, the state capital, at a meeting with party leaders, described the move as a welcome development.

He stressed that the party members should be ready to harvest politicians from LP and PDP.

“Before now, there was confusion among the people as to who is a true progressive as LP usually laid claim to being a progressive political party,” Kekemeke said.

The former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) said the future of APC, which was bleak as a result of the confusion between LP and APC, has brighten with the planned  move by Mimiko to the “conservative and reactionary’s fold.”

He said: “By that singular act, which is divinely orchestrated, the confusion created in the minds of the people has been removed. The battle line is clearly drawn, with the progressive on one hand and the pseudo-progressive, pretenders and reactionaries on the other hand.

“The line is drawn between those who want the Southwest and the Yorubaland to suffer marginalisation and those who insist that the Southwest cannot play the second fiddle in the politics of Nigeria.

“It is drawn between those who said that the present unacceptable affairs of this country are the best that ever happened and therefore, should be continued, and those who insist there should be change for the better.”

Lawyer Kekemeke said since the dividing line has become clear, all true progressives, both in PDP and LP, have indicated their intention to take side with the state’s “only truly progressive platform.”

The legal practitioner said: “A number of them have vowed that they will refuse to be infected by the political Ebola. I think the people of this state are wiser and can no longer be deceived by this survivalist action.

“We are ready and prepared as a party to welcome all true progressives into our party with an assurance that our party is all inclusive and will provide equal and fair access to its platform by all for the realisation of their political aspirations.”
