    Police arrest ‘Okada rider’ for raping five females at gunpoint in Ondo

    The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a suspected serial rapist and armed robbery suspect, Olamipekun Elegbeleye, for allegedly sexually assaulting and robbing several women in Akure, the state capital.

    The suspect, a commercial motorcyclist otherwise known as “Okada Rider,” was said to have lured his female victims under false pretences before attacking and raping them at gunpoint.

    Confirming the arrest in a statement on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said the suspect was apprehended following credible intelligence and technical tracking by operatives of the Command.

    According to him, one of the incidents occurred on November 21, 2025, at about 11:30 a.m., when the suspect allegedly offered a female victim a ride on his TVS motorcycle to Afunbiowo Housing Estate, Oke Aro.

    He, however, reportedly diverted into a nearby bush where he sexually assaulted the victim at gunpoint and dispossessed her of her valuables.

    According to him, police investigations later revealed that the suspect allegedly used the same method and location to assault and rob four other female victims.

    “The suspect reportedly diverted into a nearby bush where he sexually assaulted the victim at gunpoint and dispossessed her of her valuables.

    “Further investigation revealed that the suspect had, in a similar manner and at the same location, allegedly sexually assaulted and robbed four other female victims.

    “Acting on credible intelligence and technical tracking, operatives of the Command apprehended the suspect at his hideout,” he said.

    Items recovered from the suspect include two SIM cards, two iPhones, a shirt, and Opay and Moniepoint ATM cards believed to belong to the victims.

    Abayomi further disclosed that the suspect allegedly transferred money from one of the victims’ bank accounts into another account without authorization.

    He, however, added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and assured residents that perpetrators of violent and sexual crimes would be tracked and prosecuted.

    Police arrest suspected notorious cultist in Ondo

    Detectives from the Ondo State Police Command have apprehended a notorious cultist, identified as Abdul Boluwatife, for allegedly terrorising residents of Akungba-Akoko and neighbouring communities in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state.

    The arrest was confirmed in a statement on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, in Akure.

    According to Ayanlade, the suspect was arrested on October 15 during a cult initiation ceremony at A.U.D. Secondary School, Akungba-Akoko, following credible intelligence from vigilant residents of the community.

    “Upon receiving information that a group of young men were holding a secret meeting and chanting cult-related slogans within the school premises, police operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene,” Ayanlade said.

    He added that on sighting the police, the suspects fled but Boluwatife was pursued and apprehended. 

    During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to being a member and leader of a cult group operating within Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).

    Ayanlade noted that Boluwatife had long been on the command’s watchlist for alleged involvement in a series of cult-related activities in the area.

    Items recovered from the suspect include a locally made pistol, five cutlasses, a battle axe, a shisha box, two cult berets, five bottles of Squadron gin, a red knife, and a black glove.

    The police spokesman confirmed that the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, adding that efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the cult group.

    He, however, further disclosed that the Anti-Cultism Squad has launched a discreet operation to uncover the full network of the syndicate operating around Akungba-Akoko.

    Man kills father’s female tenant in Ondo

    A 41-year-old man, Odunayo Olomolatan, has hacked his father’s tenant to death at Ode-Irele, Irele Local Government Area.

    The victim, Joy Tale, 22, was killed after an argument.

    Ondo Police spokesman, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the suspect was arrested and was in police custody at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ode-Irele.

    He said the police have begun an investigation into the incident.

    Chairman of the locality, Olajide Akinfe, assured the victim’s family that justice would be served on the suspect.

    Labourer kills employer after stealing kolanut

    A 60-year-old woman identified as Mrs. Adelugba has been allegedly killed by her labourer.

    Adelugba was found dead and her body covered with leaves and palm fronds on her kola nut farm at Laje Camp in Ondo West Local Government, Ondo State.

    It was gathered that the labourer led villagers to where he dumped the body after confessing to the crime.

    Sources said the labourer claimed the ghost of the deceased pressured him to confess.

    It was learnt that the deceased recently hired the suspect to work on her farms.

    She was said to have recently caught the suspect stealing her kola nuts but he begged her not to expose him to avoid him being banished from the village.

    A source said he agreed to pay or had the money deducted from his salary.

    But the suspect killed the woman last Saturday and fled the village.

    According to the source, ‘’It was he who eventually led villagers to the scene, where they recovered Mrs. Adelugba’s remains and took it to the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH) mortuary.”

    Police sources said the suspect has been transferred to the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) in Akure for investigation.

    Security guard arrested for staging own kidnapping, demanding N50m ransom

    A 35-year-old security guard of Rubber Estate in Ose River, Ovia South West local government area of Edo State, Akpooh Edet, has been arrested for staging his own kidnapping and demanding a ransom of N50 million from his employer.

    Edet was apprehended at his hideout by operatives of the Ondo Amotekun corps in Igbotako, Okitipupa local government area of Ondo State.

    The arrest was successful following assistance from the Edo Command of the Department of State Security (DSS).

    Edet was among 22 suspects paraded at the headquarters of the Ondo Amotekun Corps.

    The Amotekun commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye stated that Edet was found at the residence of Libon James, who might have been unaware of Edet’s staged kidnapping.

    The two suspects will be handed over to the DSS for further investigation. Senior Security Manager Oluwole Adesonlu disclosed that Edet has worked for the firm for about 10 years. He added that Edet and his gang initially demanded N50 million, later reducing it to N35 million before settling for N15 million.

    He said: “We discovered that one of my guards was missing. We began the search for him and contacted the DSS.

    “It was during investigation that I contacted Amotekun in Igbotako and Edet was tracked to where he was hiding. Two accomplices were arrested in Edo State and we discovered that it was a self-kidnap to extort money from the company.”

    Man kills friend over N2000 in Ondo

    A 34-year-old man identified as Monday Chukwu has been arrested for killing his 30-year-old friend, Kefa Ofando, over N2000.

    The incident happened at Akintola village in Odigbo local government area.

    Late Ofando was said to have lent the suspect the sum of N2000 and when he demanded for payment, he was said to have been stabbed with a scissors by the suspect.

    Chukwu was among 13 suspects paraded at the Ondo police headquarters for crimes ranging from armed robbery, murder, arson and stealing.

    Meanwhile, a suspected arsonist, Renan Niju of Lapepe, Bolorunduro, Ondo East local government, was arrested for allegedly setting a school ablaze over chieftaincy dispute.

    Niju was nabbed when he revisited the property with lighter and fuel to cause more havoc.

    A four-man gang which specialised in stealing vehicle brain box and other valuables were also paraded.

    They are Ifeanyi Obiefunna, aged 36 years, Joseph Agwu, aged 43, Obinna Uyammadu, aged 32, and Onyeka Okoye, aged 38.

    Agwu, who lives in Akure, served as informant to notify other suspects to come to the state to operate and return to Lagos.

    Ondo Polics Commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, said the suspects would soon be charged to court at the end of the investigation.

    Motorcyclist crushes septuagenarian to death

    A 71-year-old man Dayo Komolafe has been crushed to death in front of his residence by a motorcyclist, Femi Oluwole.

    The incident happened around 8:00 pm at Leo Junction, along Oyemekun Road, Akure.

    Oluwole was subsequently arraigned before an Akure Magistrates’ Court on a three-count charge of reckless driving; causing death, driving without a valid licence and document

    Police prosecutor, Inspector Nelson Akintimehin, said the defendant being the rider of a blue TVS motorcycle with number plate FAB117VO, allegedly drove it on a public highway dangerously and recklessly.

    He said Oluwole had no regard for all circumstances of other road users and caused the death Komolafe in front of his house.

    Oluwole pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    His counsel, Mr. Kehinde Akintelure, asked the court to admit his client to bail on liberal terms.

    Akintelure said family of Oluwole and the deceased were on a course to settle the matter out of court.

    Presiding Magistrate, Kolawole Aro granted the defendant bail to the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.

    He adjourned the case to October 31, 2014 for hearing.

    Man defiles two-year old baby in Ondo

    An Akure Magistrates’ Family Court has sentenced a labourer, Peter Jude, to two years imprisonment with hard labour for sexually assaulting a two-year-old baby.

    The court also ordered Jude to be flogged for two days.

    Jude, 40, was said to have committed the offence on July 14, 2024, at Dele Ojo Camp in Uso, Owo local government area.

    He was said to have been caught on top of the baby and already discharged semen on her vaginal.

    Jude pleaded guilty to the one count charge of indecent sexual assault and begged the court to be forgiven after attributing his actions to the devil.

    The prosecutor, Martins Olowofeso, informed the court that Jude was employed as a labourers by the victim’s father to work in his farm.

    He said the offence contravenes Section 3(1) of the Ondo State Violence Against Persons (Prohibitions ) Law 2021.

    According to the prosecutor, “The mother of the victim detected that there was fluid of semen on her baby’s vagina when he met the defendant on top of her.

    “The defendant was living with the victim’s father. He carried the baby to the room when she was asleep. He pulled down his shorts and tried to penetrate the vagina of the baby. But in the process discharged on her.

    “When arrested, the defendant was transferred to the Gender-Based Unit of the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID), for thorough investigation where he was charged and cautioned.

    “The baby was, thereafter, taken to the State Reference Hospital for medical check-up, where a report was issued and he was subsequently charged.”

    Presiding Magistrate, Mrs B.A Alphonso, convicted and sentenced Jude to two years imprisonment with hard labour.

    According to her: “Taking the prevalence of the offence, the court has to set an example to serve as a deterrent to others.

    “The defendant is hereby, sentenced to two calendar years with hard labour and he should be whipped for two days.”

    How I killed my foster mother, Ondo teenager confesses

    Ondo state police command has unravelled the circumstances leading to the death of a 54-year-old civil servant in the state, Florence Adelayi.

    The decomposing body of Adelayi was found locked inside her apartment at Premier Estate, Okunbadejo street along Oda road in Akure.

    A knife which was reportedly used to stab her several times on the back was found at the scene.

    Her 17 years old niece simply identified as Wumi, who was arrested in connection to the crime has confessed to killing Adelayi.

    The suspect said she killed her foster mother because the deceased always reminded her to take her medication.

    Neighbours said they thought late Adelayi travelled when they did not see her for days even when the suspect was seen roaming the street.

    One of the neighbours said: “We woke up to see some strange black flies coming out of her compound on Sunday morning. But we could not access the compound because the gate was locked from the outside. There was no sign of anybody at home. So, we put calls across to her family members.

    “No one can say what was responsible for her death. The best people can do is to speculate”.

    Another source said: “The deceased came home with the girl from the office on Wednesday, greeted us and drove into her compound. That was the last time we saw her.

    “The woman had been going through a lot to cope with the mental challenge of the girl, which gave her many sleepless nights.

    “She had spent more than N1.5 million on the girl’s illness and refused to take her back to her parents because she would be lonely since she had no child. So, she had been avoiding most of her relatives and friends advising her to return the girl.”

    Ondo police spokesman, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, said it was during interrogation that the suspect confessed to have stabbed her foster mother and locked her up in the house her because she was always disturbing her to use her medication.

    According to her, “The stench oozing out of the house attracted the residents who notified the deceased sister .

    “The sister on arrival peeped through the window and saw the body on the floor,hence police was informed. The corpse at a decomposing state was removed for preservation.

    “Family members claimed the young girl had been under her late Aunt’s tutelage since she was 6 years but developed mental illness in 2023 and was admitted at a psychiatric hospital in the state. The young girl was discharged and handed over to the late woman to continue to monitor her.

    “The psychiatric hospital where she was treated confirmed this claim by providing the Police with her medical history.

    “Suspect is currently in Police Medical facility for safe keeping to avoid injury to herself and others.”

    Ondo fuel attendant hospitalised after 15 days in captivity

    A 30-year-old lady, Temitope Akinbote, who was released after spending 15 days in the kidnappers’ den has been hospitalised.

    Temitope was abducted by gunmen on February 10 by gunmen who stormed the Magbehinwa community, Ilaje local government.

    The gunmen were said to have shot sporadically and dragged Temitope away from the petrol filling station, in Gbabijo, where she worked.

    The kidnappers initially demanded N600m for her release and later reduced it to N10m.

    A source said Temitope, a petrol station attendant, was released at about 4 am on Sunday after payment of N6m ransom.

    She was dropped at a riverine border community between Ondo and Delta States.

    It was gathered that she was rushed to the hospital due to her condition when she was released.

    The head of the family, Mr. Billy Owobo Ogungbamila, who confirmed her release, was silent on how much was paid for her release.

    The source, who insisted that N6m was paid to the kidnappers, said security agencies have stepped up their pursuit of the kidnappers.

    “Yes, of course. N6 million was paid before her abductors released her.

    “They dropped her around Owoye in a community known as Yonrin after the Ubale community within Ondo state. Though we have not set our eyes on the victim, her parents have picked her up and reported to the Marine police at Riverside.”

    Ondo Police spokesman, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the release of the victim and said security has been beefed up in the area.
