OPERATION CRUSH KENYA No replacement for Efe Ambrose

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi will not replace defender Efe Ambrose who has been ruled out of the World Cup qualifier against Kenya due to accumulated cautions.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) disclosed last week that the Scotland-based defender will not be part of the contingent as he is on suspension as a result of accumulated yellow cards from previous World Cup qualifying matches.

Media officer of the team Ben Alaiya said there are no plans to call up a replacement for Ambrose, as the team gets set for next weekend’s game.

“There will not be any fresh invitation to replace Ambrose,” Alaiya told futaa.com.

“We have enough players in camp to play in his position.”

Nigeria, who sit on top of the group with four points, will play Kenya on March 23, 2013 at the UJ Esuene stadium in Calabar.

OPERATION CRUSH KENYA 23 boys battle for Eagles’ shirts

All 23 invited home based professionals save for injured Kano Pillars central defender, Zango Umar opened training Tuesday morning at the Practice Pitch of the Abuja National Stadium in preparation for the March 23 World Cup qualifier against Harambee Stars of Kenya.

Before training commenced, Head Coach Stephen Keshi, told the players to forget about the triumph of the team at the Nations Cup and concentrate on picking a ticket for the World Cup, coming up next year in Brazil. To the new players he said if they show enough readiness to break into the team they will be given the chance.

The training itself was intense, Spartan and very physical, with emphasis on quick and simple play. It lasted for about two hours with all the five coaches of the team playing their assigned roles.

Meanwhile, the coaching crew have decided to replace injured Umar with First Bank of Lagos central defender, Festus Ajah. Ajah is said to have impressed national team scouts in some of his club’s games and now has an opportunity to make an impression at the national team level. He was expected in camp by Tuesday evening on time for this morning’s training session.

OPERATION CRUSH KENYA Anichebe, Ameobi, Obi tipped Nigeria processing Sidney Sam’s document

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi is favourably disposed towards having Shola Ameobi, Victor Anichebe and Joel Obi in his plans for the March 23 game against Kenya in Calabar.

Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi could therefore be one of such players even though he stayed away from the Nations Cup in preference to his EPL club, but Keshi has already said he missed the big, experienced forward in South Africa.

“Honestly speaking, I missed Shola Ameobi (at the AFCON). In the game against Venezuela, he had a different presence in the locker room, he came in with this coaching ability and togetherness, when he talks to these boys they listen. This was the first time he was coming,” said the Eagles coach.

“This was what I was looking for on the pitch, somebody who could talk for me on the field, because I know what I did as a captain on the pitch. He was really, really ready to come, but what was on his contract denied him from coming.”

Other likely stars on the Eagles radar would be Inter Milan midfielder Joel Obi, who was ruled out of the AFCON as a result of a long-term muscle injury, as well as Everton striker Victor Anichebe, who has also been battling injuries. Nigeria are also processing the nationality switch of Bayer Leverkusen winger Sidney Sam.

The Big Boss has also said he will welcome more players who could add quality to his African champions.

Keshi is expected to name his squad for a 2014 World Cup qualifier at home to Kenya later this month, but he said he will always be on the lookout for additions to his team.

“We are open to fresh options for the team. We will allow additional good players in the team, those who can contribute positively to the team,” Keshi said.

“We will give opportunity to them as Nigerians to come and show what they can contribute to make the team better.”

operation crush kenya Emenike still in my plans – Keshi

Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, says he has not given up on the possibility of his top striker, Emmanuel Emenike featuring in the March 23, World Cup qualifier against the Harambee Stars of Kenya in Calabar.

Reacting to news making the rounds that the striker will be out for eight weeks, following an injury copped in the Afcon 4-1 semi-final win over Mali, Keshi said from Abuja, that he feels that the reports may have been exaggerated and will be waiting for final words from medics from both the national team and the Spartak Moscow of Russia.

“Emenike is a very important component of our national team set up and we have to be concerned if he is in form, injured or otherwise and that is why we are a bit concerned about reports that he will not be available for the game against Kenya. “We can never give up about such an important player and we wish him the quickest of recoveries no matter what the medical team anywhere is saying”, Keshi declared.

The Super Eagles supremo praised the consistency of the top striker, declaring that even when he has several other options for Emenike, he’s also hoping that the player makes it on time to the set up ahead of the Kenya World Cup qualifier duel, as he’s trying to build a team that has started to gradually take shape.

Meanwhile former NFA Chairman, Ibrahim Galadima, says he was delighted that the nation won the Nations Cup in South Africa and gradually the autonomy for football management, which he fought in his time as the leader of the football federation is gradually seeing the light of day.

“Yes, Stephen Keshi, who is like a son to me has been very busy and may not have called, same for the leadership of the NFF, but I’m so happy and delighted that we won the Nations Cup and some other things for which we were castigated for are gradually becoming the norms in Nigerian football.

“If we remain focused and avoid unnecessary controversy, we will go very far in not only winning trophies but remaining a force in world football”, Galadima declared.

He urged the NFF leadership to savour their hard earned victory at SA 2013, instead of allowing forces of disunity to put create rancour in the rank and file of the team and the NFF, at a time when celebration should be the hallmark of the nation.

  • Data, top secret to oil operation, says expert

The international oil companies (IOCs), independent operators and marginal fields’operators, all have data that are confidential to them when it comes to oil and gas operations. Nobody wants to give out information because of the need to optimise standards. Everybody wants to manage his data in his own way.”

These were the words of the Manager, Geophysical Operations, Petrodata Management Services Limited, Abu Efosa.

He said because oil and gas operation is highly technology-driven, any information is very important to the operators of the industry – both the majors and independents.

“Any information given out by industry operators is as a result of the fact that they believe it would be useful to the public but any data that has to do with inner operations and processes of the oil company are left for the company. Accessing a company’s data is highly restricted and is dependent on the kind of information one is looking for. Data is very confidential when it comes to oil and gas operations,” he said.

He said operators want their data to remain with them. Consequently, giving out data, he said must be as a result of a relationship and integrity with them over time, which has created the confidence that their data is safe and nobody can have intrusion into it. These he explained, are part of what they put in place to ensure that any data given out is kept top secret and nobody would have access to it.

“All producing companies have where their hydrocarbon comes from and as such every international oil company that is into exploration has data relating to those processes, if such data is given out to a competitor or another operator, he might use it as an advantage to know the source of oil.

“Technology has made so many things easy that each company has a particular place where it gets oil from and if another company gets access to the technology, it would be able to access your of oil, but this development does not pose much challenges as the geophysical operators basically manage data for the oil and gas companies. The geophysical companies, however, must have built integrity with the oil companies. The relationship is based on trust that the data given out to you must be kept confidential.”

Efosa said: “Data is key, not only to oil and gas operations but also to the economy. From sector to sector data is very important, it is the backbone of any company and that is why they are treated with a lot of confidentiality.”

Petrodata, he added, is an indigeneous company, which is primarily in the business of storing data and managing them, adding it has been into oil and gas but has now diversified into other sectors including banking, information technology as well class storage. This, he said, has to do with putting all data, document, seismic, information technology to have backups that can be accessed from any part of the country or world as long as internet services are made available.

He said the class storage services is new in Nigeria but Petrodata management is doing everything possible to getting the public be aware of it, adding that people were yet to embrace it probably because of lack of information.

  • Ajaokuta Steel ‘ready for operation’

The Sole Administrator of Ajaokuta Steel Company, Mr. Joseph Isah, an engineer, has said the company is in a good shape and ready for operation if funds are available.

Isah, who spoke at the weekend during an interview with reporters in Ajaokuta, said this followed the recent technical audit of the steel plant by the Ukrainians, the newly-appointed managers of the company.

He noted that over 74 per cent of steel production globally was done through the blast furnace.

Isah said the blast furnace mode of steel production adopted by the company is the best source of steel making in the world, putting to rest the obsolete nature of the technology.

Quoting from the Ukrainian technical audit report, he said: “The condition of the steel plant’s equipment and facilities is satisfactory. Mechanically, the equipment and facilities are in good condition.”

Mr. Isah stressed that with the volume and quality of steel to be produced in the plant, the only way is the blast furnace.

He urged Nigerians to disregard the insinuation that the plant cannot function.

The sole administrator said the plant was intact and debunked a claim by the people he described as ignorant of steel technology who alleged that it had been vandalised.

According to him, the workers are passionate about the plant and have worked hard to secure the equipment.

“I referred to the above because we need to educate Nigerians that the blast furnace technology of steel making adopted in Ajaokuta is still the best method through which large volumes of steel are produced in the world today,” Isah said.

He added that President Goodluck Jonathan was committed to the completion and operation of the plant, hence his directive for the speedy settlement of the arbitration against the company by the Global Infrastructural Holdings Limited (GIHL), an Indian firm.

He said when Ajaokuta Steel Company is fully operational, it wanted generate over 15,000 direct employment in addition to thousands to be employed informally.

Isah listed other benefits of the steel plant to the nation as enhancing technological growth, acquisition of technical expertise, provision of input for infrastructural development and adding value to the natural resources.

He said as part of plans to re-launch the plant’s lime light, management has concluded arrangement to engage the workforce in productive activities, preserve the equipment and generate revenue to reduce dependency on the government.

He said the management has also initiated joint venture agreements to put the completed mills into commercial operations.

  • Ekiti orders ‘operation show your documents’ to workers

Ekiti orders ‘operation show your documents’ to workers

THE Ekiti Government has directed 2,783 local government workers to produce documents to authenticate their appointments into the service.

In a circular the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Mr David Jejelowo, said 1, 511 of the affected workers were found to have been illegally appointed while 593 and 357 were listed as redundant and  promoted beyond their statutory levels.

The state government had already deployed council workers who had the National Certificates of Education (NCE) and Bachelors of Education to the State Universal Basic Education and Teaching Service Commission.

It was gathered that some workers in the health departments of councils were re-deployed to the new Ekiti State Primary Health Development Agency.

The circular also stated that 320 of the workers had been marked to have overstayed in service.

It stated that such workers had been directed to produce their letters of first appointments, birth certificates, original copies of certificates and their personal files.

But reacting to the development, the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Workers, Mr Victor Adebayo, described the government’s action as surprising.

He, however, said the union would not watch and allow the government to sack workers unjustly.

“Declaring some people as illegal employees in the local government sector without carrying NULGE along is surprising because we don’t know the documents the government is relying upon to do all these restructuring.

“We agreed that we should be carried along in the restructuring, but the government decided to do it all alone and this, to us, does not conform to due process,” he said.

Adebayo appealed to the government to stay action on the matter to douse tension, promising that the union would reach out to its national headquarters on the next line of action.

Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Information, Funminiyi Afuye, clarified that the government was not planning to sack council workers.

He urged local government workers and members of the public to ignore the sack rumour being peddled in some quarters.

Afuye said the state government would continue to respect the agreement reached with the council workers which led to the suspension of the strike declared by the workers last month.

He explained that what the government did after the strike was to right-size by posting some workers to areas where they would function optimally.
