I will deliver Abia to APC in 2027– says Orji Kalu

Sen. Orji Kalu (APC– Abia North) has vowed to do all within his powers to deliver Abia to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Kalu made the vow at Ekoli, Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi while on  annual New Year visit to the  Chairman of the APC Ebonyi, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha.

The Former Abia Governor said he would deploy all within his arsenal to ensure that APC wrestles power from the ruling Labour Party in Abia.

“I will support President Bola Tinubu and the APC gubernatorial candidate in the elections.

“I will put my heart on the field to ensure that the APC wins landslide in Abia, at the election.

“The incumbent Governor, Dr Alex Oti is my friend but I am not discussing politics, only the total victory of the APC in the elections,” he said.

He urged state governors to secure their respective states and not leave such task to President Tinubu.

“When I was Abia governor, I ensured total security of lives and properties.

“There were no cases of kidnapping among other crimes in Abia and this was at a period other states were grappling with heightened insecurity.

“The governors should emulate Gov. Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyii, who has ensured adequate peace and security in the state,” he said.

Kalu noted that he conceived his annual New Year visit to the  Ebonyi APC chairman due to his age long loyalty to him.

“He is an embodiment of loyalty and is someone you can trust with your life.

“I raised him as a child, even when his father was alive and he was part of the success stories I recorded as a governor.

“When I handed him over to Former Ebonyi Governor, Sen. David Umahi, I urged him to give his principal 100 per cent loyalty and he has transferred such virtue to the incumbent governor, Nwifuru,” he said. (NAN)

Tinubu unstoppable in 2027, says Orji Kalu

…backs Trump on killings, insists U.S. targeting jihadists, not Tinubu

Senate Committee Chairman on South East Development Commission (SEDC) and former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is unbeatable in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that no opposition party or candidate poses any real threat to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking with journalists at the National Assembly on Tuesday, the Abia North Senator described the coming presidential race as “Tinubu versus Tinubu,” arguing that the President’s policies are already stabilising the economy and strengthening national security.

“Has he gotten anyone contesting against him? The election is Tinubu vs Tinubu, just like Soludo vs Soludo,” Kalu said.

“Our party is on the ground across Nigeria and fully with the people. We will continue to support the President to make life better for the masses.”

Kalu, who also served as Chief Whip in the 9th Senate, reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to back the President’s economic recovery efforts through legislation tailored to reduce hardship and promote growth.

“Whatever the problem, the Senate is focused on making laws that will help President Tinubu overcome economic challenges. We want Nigerians to eat three times a day,” he added.

Reacting to comments credited to U.S. President Donald Trump on killings in Nigeria, Kalu said Trump “told the truth,” noting that the violence has affected both Christians and Muslims and must be confronted without religious bias.

He said, “If it’s a lie, then what’s the truth? Nigerians are being killed, Christians and Muslims alike.

“There are jihadists who want to destroy Nigeria. We must blacklist them without pity and smoke them out.”

The senator disclosed that he had previously discussed Nigeria’s security situation with two former U.S. Presidents and six sitting U.S. Senators, who expressed readiness to assist Nigeria in combating terrorism.

Kalu suggested that recent airstrikes by the Nigerian Air Force may have benefited from U.S. intelligence support.

He said, “Before Trump speaks, the American intelligence community must have verified their information. You can see that our Air Force is already acting, possibly with shared intelligence from the U.S. That’s how it should be.”

While describing himself as “pro-America,” Kalu blamed much of Africa’s instability on the U.S.-led invasions of Libya and Iraq, which he said unleashed arms proliferation across the continent.

“When you killed Gaddafi and Saddam Hussein, it became a problem. They maintained their borders. After their deaths, arms spilled all over the world, we’re suffering from it today,” he said.

He dismissed claims that the U.S. was targeting President Tinubu’s administration, clarifying that Washington’s concern is focused on terrorist networks, not the Nigerian government.

“Political opponents think the U.S. is after Tinubu’s government — No! They’re going after the jihadists,” Kalu said.

Responding to rumours that Abia State Governor Alex Otti may defect from the Labour Party to the APC, Kalu said neither President Tinubu nor any APC leader has pressured anyone to join the ruling party.

He said, “Nobody is forcing anyone to join. I’ve met my governor, he’s my brother and used to be my banker.

“Whether he joins or not is up to him. But as for me, I’ll work 100 per cent for APC and ensure victory for President Tinubu and all our candidates.”

Kalu also predicted that Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo would eventually join the APC.

“Soludo is a progressive like myself, President Tinubu, and Senate President Akpabio. He has no alternative but to come home, it’s confirmed,” he said.

On the economy, Kalu admitted that while Nigerians are going through tough times, the country’s macroeconomic indicators are gradually improving.

“As a businessman, I feel the pain too. The macro economy is doing well; the micro is still struggling. Foreign investors are coming, but the benefits must reach the people,” he said.

He assured that both the President and the Senate are working tirelessly to revive agriculture and restore food security.

“President Tinubu has put his life into revamping the economy. The Senate is doing its best to ensure Nigerians feel the progress,” he said.

Addressing reports of an alleged plot to unseat the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Kalu dismissed it as a mere internal disagreement.

“There were attempts, but we didn’t allow that to happen. We are one big family, and it’s not going to happen,” he said.

2027: Orji Kalu’s younger brother joins guber race

The 2023 governorship candidate of the All Peoples Party (APP) and younger brother of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu; Mascot Uzor Kalu has officially declared his intention to run for the 2027 governorship position in Abia State.

Kalu, speaking in Umuahia, the state capital on Saturday, during a meeting with various support groups of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said that his decision to contest for the seat of governorship in the state was personal and his love to serve the masses.

The APP 2023 governorship candidate who promised to run an open, transparent and inclusive government if elected governor come 2027, said his reason was that Abia deserves better leadership than what they have at the moment.

According to him, “I was one of the frontline candidates in the 2023 governor’s election. As a democrat, I did not hesitate to congratulate the incumbent, Governor Alex Otti, when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him the winner.

“Although irregularities marred the elections, the outcome represented the change the people had been asking for. For that reason, I did not challenge the election outcome in court.

“I have given the administration room to govern without criticism for over two years. I acknowledge that some progress has been made under the administration. However, the progress remains far from the lofty campaign promises made to Abians during the 2023 electioneering period.

“Abia and Abians deserve more, especially those at the grassroots, including civil servants, pensioners, and traders, and a government built on transparency, accountability, and inclusive progress—a government that serves all and leaves no one behind.

“On behalf of myself, wife and family, I stand before all of you to express my interest for the Abia state governorship ticket under our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the 2027 elections.

  • South East youth leaders endorse Orji Kalu as APC’s face for 2027 elections

South East youth leaders endorse Orji Kalu as APC’s face for 2027 elections

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the apex socio-political youth organisation in the South East, has thrown its weight behind Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North), describing him as the face of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement by its President General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Okey Nwaoru, the group said recent attacks directed at Senator Kalu from “certain quarters” were motivated by his rising political profile and growing influence within the APC.

“Senator Kalu is a transformative leader whose contributions have significantly elevated the standard of governance in Abia North. His dedication to public service, development initiatives and unwavering commitment to the APC have positioned him as a beacon of hope for our people,” COSEYL said.

The group added that the senator’s performance in the National Assembly had set a new benchmark for quality representation since the return of democracy in 1999.

“The people of Abia North are particularly grateful for his impactful leadership. His visionary projects and proactive approach have transformed the socio-economic landscape of our region. It is no surprise that under his leadership, we confidently predict an overwhelming 95 per cent support for the APC in the forthcoming elections,” the statement read.

COSEYL also expressed confidence that Kalu’s partnership with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would yield further gains for the region. “We anticipate that the citizens of Abia North will not only rally behind Senator Kalu but will also vote massively for President Tinubu, recognising the synergy and transformative power of their leadership,” it said.

While dismissing criticisms against the lawmaker as “desperate attempts to undermine a proven leader,” the youth body urged citizens of Abia North to remain united in their support.

“Abia North deserves continued progress, and this can only be guaranteed through continuity of proven, results-oriented leadership. We at COSEYL affirm that 2027 is a done deal. The good people of Abia North are ready to show their appreciation for the dynamic performance of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu,” the statement concluded.

  • Boko Haram backed by political elites to undermine Tinubu, Orji Kalu alleges

Boko Haram backed by political elites to undermine Tinubu, Orji Kalu alleges

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North) has alleged that influential figures within Nigeria’s political elite are fuelling the resurgence of Boko Haram as part of a wider plot to destabilise President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Kalu made the claim during an appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Monday.

According to him, the recent uptick in terrorist activities is not random but politically motivated.

“The political class is behind Boko Haram. They are using terrorism as a tool to fight Tinubu, just like they did with past administrations,” Kalu said.

Pressed to identify those he described as the “political class,” Kalu pointed to a network of politicians, powerful businesspeople, and senior civil servants, alleging they were leveraging insecurity to serve personal ambitions.

“People in the political class are the ones fuelling Boko Haram. This is a political war. Some of them aren’t after money—they’re after power. They want to tear down the system just to grab control, and that’s not how power should be acquired,” he explained.

He further described the growing insecurity in the country as a calculated effort by those disenchanted with current governance, accusing them of deliberately stoking chaos to gain political leverage.

“The insecurity in Nigeria is politically induced. These individuals—politicians, businessmen, civil servants—are not just seeking financial gain. They’re looking to hijack political power,” Kalu added.

The senator called for unity and patriotism among Nigerians, urging citizens to prioritize national interest over selfish political agendas.

“If we consider ourselves friends and patriots, we should care about the ordinary Nigerian. We must work together to build a better country,” he said.

Kalu’s comments come amid rising concerns over renewed Boko Haram activity. Just a day earlier, nine passengers were reportedly killed in Mairari Village, Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State after Boko Haram insurgents detonated improvised explosive devices.

Borno Speaker Abdulkarim Lawan condemned the attack, describing it as “inhumane,” and called on the military to intensify efforts to reclaim Guzamala from the grip of insurgents.

Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum, expressed serious concern over the resurgence of terrorist attacks in the state, urging for swift action to address the security threat.

2027: APC not afraid of opposition coalitions — Orji Kalu

    …lauds Tinubu’s achievements

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has dismissed claims that the wave of endorsements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid is being fueled by fears of potential opposition alliances.

Speaking to journalists from the Senate Press Corps in Abuja on Tuesday, Kalu said the growing support for Tinubu is rooted in his bold leadership style and the transformative policies of his administration.

“The endorsements are not out of fear. They are a show of confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership,” Kalu stated, adding that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains unshaken by talk of coalitions.

“We have no one to fear. APC is the ruling party. We love this country deeply, and many of us are contributing by building industries to create jobs—even outside government,” he said.

Kalu emphasised that opposition criticism is a normal and necessary part of democracy, but warned against misinterpreting it as a sign of vulnerability from the ruling party.

“The opposition must fight. That’s their job. But our job is to deliver, and we are doing our job perfectly well. In the coming years, Nigerians will appreciate what Mr. President is doing,” he said.

On the president’s recent visit to the Vatican, which had sparked debates due to his faith, Kalu explained that Tinubu attended at the personal invitation of Pope Francis whom he described as a personal friend of the President.

“It would have been disrespectful if he ignored the Pope’s invitation. About 1.8 billion Catholics, including myself, appreciate that gesture. In 2027, Catholics will remember that,” he said.

When asked about the Southeast Endorsement and zone’s party loyalty, he disclosed that the Southeast caucus of the APC had long thrown its support behind President Tinubu, even before other endorsements were made.

He pointed to a prior endorsement led by key Southeast figures, including Governors and federal legislators.

“We endorsed him weeks ago, chaired by Governor Hope Uzodinma and co-chaired by the Governor of Ebonyi and the Deputy Speaker.

We initiated the national endorsement,” he said, proudly displaying his attire which he described as symbolic of his support for the President.

Giving his verdict on Tinubu’s Economic Policies,Senator Kalu praised the President for making tough but necessary choices like subsidy removal and exchange rate unification, acknowledging the current hardships but emphasizing that these changes were essential for long-term national stability.

“I’m not a politician. I’m a businessman. And this is the first President who ended the cheap money culture. People made money from nothing before. This President is telling us: make money the right way or don’t make it at all,” he said.

He maintained that Tinubu’s policies are already impacting the macroeconomic level, and projected that their benefits would soon reach everyday Nigerians.

“Tinubu is not just a Southern President. He will be re-elected by both North and South because it’s in the national interest. We don’t want the country to break, we want it to thrive,” he stated.

On his plans for 2027, Kalu reaffirmed his commitment to serving his constituents and Nigeria with integrity and passion.

He said that while infrastructure and education have been priorities, his focus will shift to agriculture come 2027.

“You must love people to serve them. That’s why I work hard. I don’t even keep a bank account. Everything I have goes into helping people—through roads, schools, agriculture, and my foundation,” he said.

Kalu also urged all Nigerian leaders regardless of party affiliation to speak the truth and focus on uplifting the people rather than trading blame or harboring bitterness.

Tinubu is APC’s only candidate for 2027, says Orji Kalu

    • ‘No qualms about President’s second term’

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will complete two terms in office, Abia North Senator Orji Uzor Kalu announced yesterday.

The former Senate Chief Whip spoke last night on a national television political programme.

He said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has no other candidate to fly its flag in 2027 besides President Tinubu.

Kalu, a former Abia State governor, ruled out the possibility of an Igbo presidency in 2027, despite acknowledging the need for one in the future.

“I am not going to discuss anything about the Igbo presidency. But I still tell you there is a need for it,” he said.

“The Igbo must present an acceptable candidate to all Nigerians. No one zone can make a president. President Tinubu was not elected by the Yoruba. He was elected by all Nigerians.”

When asked if he believed the time was right for an Igbo president, the senator instead reinforced his earlier stance on President Tinubu’s reelection bid, stressing that the President’s second term remained non-negotiable.

You can see the repairs he has done to the economy and things are starting to pick up again. This president is not even doing politics. He has never told anybody he wants to run for an election or not.

“But as a party, we have mandated him to run and given him a vote of confidence. The party’s National Executive Council (NEC) has given him a vote of confidence through a motion proposed by the Governor of Imo State and announced by Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, who is the National Chairman of the party. The 12 youths, trained in Data Analytics and Web Development by GetBundi Education Technology, received their certificates at an event held at Chief Okorie’s country home in Igbere, Abia State.

The former governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North in the National Assembly, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, personally handed them the certificates. Three graduates – Bernard Ukachukwu, Ikeweigh Emma, and Elijah Kalu – passed with distinction in Data Analytics.

Senator Kalu in his remarks called on all businessmen and women in Abia State and Nigeria to emulate Chief Sam Okorie in educating the youths, especially in digital technology. He said though the government is doing a lot in this regard, it is Godly and an invaluable gift to humanity for the rich to be compassionate.

Speaking at the event which was graced by other dignitaries, including Chief Chris Uche (SAN), Ezeogo Emeka Onuoha, Eze Uche I. C. Dimgba (Okpotemba 1 of Igbere), and HRH Eze M. I. Also speaking via the telephone, the Founder of GetBundi Education Technology, Osita Oparaugo, thanked Chief Sam Okorie for choosing GetBundi and venturing into a space most people ignore.

“There is no empowerment better than what you have done for these individuals. The skills they have learned will keep them busy and last as long as they live. You have made your brothers and sisters competitive. You didn’t give them fish, you have shown them how to fish. Well done,” Oparaugo said.

Tinubu’s unavoidable reforms will pay-off, says Orji Kalu

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has assured the economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are necessary and would yield positive results.

The Abia-North Senator explained that the revamping of the nation’s laws, some of which are over 100 years old is imperative and inevitable considering its obsoleteness and ineffectiveness to meet the expectations of the current global economic realities.

The former Abia Governor spoke at the Igbere home of a former Abia governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC ), Chief Daniel Eke, where he paid a New Year’s visit, according to a statement by his media aide, Kenneth Udeh, in Abuja.

With reference to the Tax Reform Bills, Kalu commended President Tinubu describing his move as a bold step.

Though he advocated for wider consultations, he faulted mode of its introduction saying that Nigerians were not sufficiently educated before the Bill was introduced.

According to him, for Nigeria to make any meaningful progress like China, the 36 States must be made to compete among each other.

Kalu said: Tinubu is a courageous leader who took the bull by its Horns, I’m not saying this out of sycophancy to gain any favours as you all know I’m an accomplished Politician and Business entrepreneur.

“We need to give the President a chance to carry out these reforms and the Tax Reform is not a bad bill, it is progressive but the problem is that Nigerians were not lectured enough and lack orientation about its many benefits.

“The Tax Reform Bill is not bad but we need to carry other regions along. The other regions need to be educated on what the Tax Bill is all about.

Making reference to China Kalu also explained that the Tax Reform Bills will encourage competition among states which he said will bring about harnessing of State resources and improve productivity.

He said: “We can’t make any headway as Nation if we don’t go the China way, which is competition. Nigerians must face economic competition, each of the 36 states should compete with each other in terms of productivity. That is the only way the entire country can grow and develop like China.

“President Tinubu is trying to ensure that all the states become competitive. A country like China has been growing for the last 35 years at a 10% growth rate which has made it a Great country.

“They are growing not because of human rights but they are growing in competition. We must engage in competition if we want to grow the practice of sharing free money in Abuja cannot continue.

“We must test our resilience. All our laws need reformation. They are over 100 years old but we need to consult with the people. To catch up with other Nations we should build more Universities we are still backward.”

Kalu admitted the sufferings of Nigerians and commended them for their patience, expressing optimism that 2025 would be a year of positive outcomes from the Tinubu-led government’s economic policies.

Kalu said: “President Tinubu is fully aware of the pains that people are passing through and I am also aware but there are some reforms going on and there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“I understand the difficulties and sufferings of our people very well so I urge Nigerians to be patient and know that we are going through a process.”

Kalu reiterated his commitment to enhance his delivery of economic and infrastructural dividends to his constituents.

“I will continue doing my duty as a Senator and that duty is very sacred and I will never compromise. I had to leave my private companies worth millions of dollars to concentrate on my duty as  Senator and my duty is more important.

“I had to show the people of Abia-North a distinguished way of being led by a Senator. I have replicated what I did as a Governor and I have returned the power back to the people to decide on who governs them I have demonstrated as Governor and now as a Senator,” he said.

Eke appreciated Kalu for the visit he also commended the Senator for his legislative impacts in the Senatorial District.

He said: “Other Senators have given frying pans as empowerment but need good roads , employment,  infrastructure,  industries that will employ our people.

“Senator Kalu is not just doing his legislative work he has also established processing companies that will employ our people which is what that matters most. He is doing this in the best interests of our people.”

As senator, I earn N14m monthly, says Orji Kalu

The Senator  representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, yesterday disclosed that he earns  N14 million monthly.

The  lawmaker, who was a guest on Channels, dismissed the belief among some Nigerians that lawmakers are living in affluence while the masses live in poverty.

“I earn N14 million for everything in a month. That is everything encompassing, the overhead, the worker’s salary, everybody,” Uzor-Kalu said.

Uzor Kalu, who is a former governor of Abia State, argued that the N14 million is not enough to buy petrol to travel to his constituency, maintain the constituency office among other things.

Kalu denied that lawmakers are given official personal vehicles, saying that  only the  committees  are given vehicles.

“I am in the Senate and a lot of things are said about the Senators and I sit there quietly and watch, and most of these things are not true. All I know is that committees get vehicles, no lawmaker is given any vehicle,” the Senator said.

On the economic hardship  in the country, Senator Uzor Kalu said it is not peculiar to Nigeria as the impact of COVID-19 is still affecting economies globally.

He said the only reason some countries are no longer feeling the COVID-19 impact the way Nigeria is feeling it is because they have built a robust economy for a very long period.

According to him, President Bola Tinubu is aware of the country’s unstable economy and he’s taking steps to address the challenges.

“The president  knows that Nigerians are suffering and hungry. He is a street person; he knows the street very well.

“The president some nights uses his car to go around and know what is happening in Abuja here,” he said.
