Nigeria’s Osaze Odemwingie was in action for 90 minutes as Stoke City handed Manchester United their first ever defeat in the Premier League, with David Moyes and his men losing 2-1 at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.

Charlie Adam scored a brace in the encounter but United were the first to create a chance when Wayne Rooney let fly from 35 yards out, however his shot was saved by Asmir Begovic at the bottom left-hand corner of the goal.

Rooney had another great chance a few minutes later when Patrice Evra produced a teasing cross, which allowed the England striker to get an effort off towards goal, though the ball crept just too wide to the left of the post.

Robin van Persie was next to try his luck just before the half-hour mark when he got onto the end of a headed pass from Phil Jones, though his effort was blocked on its way to goal.

In a half of few chances, Stoke tried their luck just before the break as Erik Pieters let fly with an effort that flew high and wide of David de Gea’s goal.

United found themselves a goal behind in the 38th minute when Charlie Adam lashed in a delivery towards goal, which perhaps took a slight deflection off of Michael Carrick to elude de Gea and give the hosts the lead.

However, van Persie pulled the visitors level just after the break when he latched onto Juan Mata’s through ball before tucking his finish into the bottom corner.

Parity didn’t last too long, though, as Adam restored Stoke’s lead with a standout individual effort, which saw the midfielder nail a long range effort into the top corner.

Lone frontman Peter Crouch could have extended the hosts’ lead, but he was only able to head straight at de Gea with the goal gaping in front of him, while Tom Cleverley wasted a perfect opportunity to equalise in the closing stages as he sent his shot over following a scramble inside the box.

STOKE VS MAN United: Osaze expects close game

Nigeria’s Osaze Odemwingie is expecting a close game between Stoke City and Manchester United even as he remains confident that it is just a matter of time before he will start doing what he has been asked for – scoring goals.

The 32-year-old Nigerian made his Stoke debut on Wednesday, playing all 90 minutes against Cardiff.

“I’m confident now I’m here that I can score goals straight away. I didn’t get many chances at Cardiff and that will be different here. We have a physical, strong team and that should suit me.

“I thought I was going to score on my debut, but I should have gone for power rather than placement when I had a chance in the second half.

“I wanted to make sure I hit the target, but I should have just blasted it,” the Nigeria international added while stressing that he will do better in the future starting from today’s clash against Manchester United at Britannia Stadium.

“I don’t mind playing centrally or wide. I think I will get chances wherever and I’m confident I can put them away, hopefully starting against Manchester United.

“It will be tough, of course,” he concedes, “but we can look forward to taking on anyone at the Britannia Stadium.

“I wasn’t here when we beat Chelsea, but I saw (the highlights) on television and it was a special performance. That’s what we’ll need again.

“Stoke are strong at home and we have to carry that on. It will be a great atmosphere and I can’t wait to play in it as a Stoke player.

“It’s always a big game against Manchester United, but all our games are important now. We have to start better and we need to pick up points. If we have to fight, I’m prepared to fight,” Osaze said.

Man City vs Cardiff: Osaze’s coach “not daunted” by City

OUT OF FAVOUR Super Eagles forward, Osaze Odemwingie’s boss at Cardiff City, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that he will not have any fear when his side travel to Manchester City today in the English Premier League.

City have won all of their games at the Etihad so far this season, but Solskjaer said that with a bit of luck there is no reason why Osaze and his Cardiff pals cannot end that run.

“We are not daunted by the challenge, we are relishing it,” Sky Sports News quotes him as saying. “When you go to places like the Etihad and Old Trafford you are going to be tested against some of the best players in the world, but we have got our own standards to adhere to.

“You need to ride your luck, but bigger surprises have happened in the world of football, so you have to go up there with the mindset of having a go and taking something from the game.

“We want to be a top 10 club so you have got to go to these places and take something out of the game. We are looking at how we can hurt them.”

Osaze’s Cardiff are currently 18th in the Premier League log.

Osaze prepares nine months old son for football

In his debut Footballers’ Football Column, out of favour Super Eagles striker, Osaze Odemwingie reveals how he has been relishing life as a family man after settling down at Cardiff City. The half-caste footballer is particularly thrilled with the time he has been spending with his nine months old son whom he has started preparing for football by getting him a full Cardiff kit.

“I have already bought a full Cardiff kit for my son. He is only nine months old, but he likes his kit,” said the former West Brom forward.

“This is probably the happiest period I have been as a person. In the time I was on the side at West Brom I really got to know my wife more and we are very happy. Coming to Cardiff has given me football again.n It is going well and I hope it stays that way.

“We are very happy where we live and we have been going out with our two dogs. The other day we ended up in this beautiful, huge park and by the time we got back to the gates we had been locked in. It was a long walk home, but everything is very attractive here.

“I feel very happy right now. I have been through quite a lot this year and so far my time at Cardiff has felt like a new start.”

On the derby against Swansea which was the first time the two teams would clash in the EPL, Odemwingie described the atmosphere before and after the game as incredible.

“The derby was incredible. The atmosphere and noise was amazing – they are the games you love playing. You could feel how important the game was during the build up at the training ground. Everyone was up for that game.

“In the dressing room beforehand, looking at the guys, you could see how important it was. You meet fans around the city and they always mentioned this game – for us to win was wonderful. I’ll never forget the noise when the goal went in and at the end when the referee blew the whistle.

“I played in big derbies before. For West Brom, playing against Aston Villa and Birmingham was always big, but the Wolves games were also always huge too. This game was like that. Every tackle gets the crowd going crazy, every run.

“Thankfully there was no trouble – it was just a great atmosphere. I remember a game I went to in Nigeria, my first ever game as a spectator, and there was a little riot. I was about five years old and there was tear gas and stuff. Thankfully this was just a great atmosphere between the fans and a game both clubs wanted to win.

“After some of the stuff that has been said about the club recently it was just great to go out there and get a result and make everyone happy again.

“After the game everyone at the club was very happy. It was a really joyful moment. We felt we had achieved something. The main goal is still to stay up but it was a special result and now we feel a bit safer.”

Even though, the light skinned star scored his first goal for Cardiff in the EPL game against Newcastle, he revealed that he was still trying to settle down in his new base.

“For me, it has been great at Cardiff. I scored my first goal at the Cardiff City Stadium against Newcastle a few weeks ago and it felt really good to hear the crowd calling my name again.

“I am still settling into the city. Since we moved to Cardiff, to a place called Penarth, we have not fully got ourselves set up. I don’t have any internet and the television is not set up. It’s actually been quite nice, just relaxing with my wife and our son.

“My mum came over from Russia and she stayed with us for a week – she actually said ‘don’t sort the TV, just relax with your family’. It has just been a really nice time, being around my family and talking about stuff, focussing on football.

“I love challenges. I always have. Maybe that is why I have played in so many countries. Coming to Cardiff was a challenge. After what happened at West Brom I want to remind people that I am a football player.

“And at Cardiff we have a big challenge to stay in the Premier League. It is a hard, hard league. We need to show to people who doubt us that we can stay in it. People say we will go down. It is our fight to show they are wrong

“For that reason there is a great energy here. I cannot tell you fully how great that is. It is nice to come to work every day with people who have something to prove, who want to get better.

“Here, there are no players who just sit around and are comfortable. This is like West Brom in my first season there – a real energy. For me, it is a pure joy to be around.

“The fans here have been great for me. A few times in the warm-up the Cardiff fans have given me banter about West Brom and what happened at QPR. I found it funny and liked it – it shows they have accepted me. They have sung my name and that is very special for me.”

    More clubs join Osaze chase

West Ham, Sunderland and Fulham have joined other English Premiership League clubs chasing the unsettled West Brom striker Osaze Odemwingie, MTNFootball.com reports.

The 31-year-old forward has been looking for a route out of “The Hawthorns” for some time, most especially since January’s failed bid to secure Queens Park Rangers’ deal and Crystal Palace is in pole post to land him, MTNFootball.com reports.

MTNFootball.com understands that West Ham United, Hull City, Sunderland and Fulham would all welcome Osaze into their ranks – joining Crystal Palace in the chase for his services.

He still has a year left to run on his contract at WBA, where he is valued at 2.5 million pounds.

The estranged Nigerian international was recently kept away from the first-team squad training on return for pre-season training, fueling more speculations he is closer to the exit door at the club.

West Brom court Aliadiere for Osaze

A looming short-fall in the attacking line up of English Premier League side West Bromich Albion has reportedly saw them considering a possible deal for former Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere.

With reports of on-loan striker Romelu Lukaku heading to the exit doors to seek bigger challenge and the duo of Nigeria’s Osaze Odemwingie and Shane Long also candidates for summer transfers, caughtoffside.com claims West Brom could turn to Lorient striker Aliadiere as a cheap option, with the 29-year-old thought to be available for around £4million.

The former Arsenal youngster having seemed to have finally found a way around his injury-laden career scored an impressive record of 19 goals and 9 assists in all competitions for Lorient this season, putting him in joint fifth place for goals in France’s Ligue 1, and joint fourth place for assists.

With his pre-knowledge of Premiership football, the French striker is expected to easily settle into live at the Hawthorns if the proposed move is finally pursued and sealed but it is not sure if Aliadiere will want to leave his native country for England once more judging by the contrasting fortunes he has enjoyed in opposite sides.
