Edo poll: Oshiomhole wants panel to reject witnesses’ statements

Governor Adams Oshiomhole on Monday asked the Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal to strike out witnesses’ statements in the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the July 14 poll, l Charles Airhiavbere.

This was contained in an application filed by counsel to Oshiomhole, Adeniyi Akintola.

Akintola in the application said the witnesses’ statements have become an academic exercise in view of ruling the tribunal gave on September 27.

He argued that the statements have no bearing on the issues before the court as they related to dispute over academic qualifications.

Akintola also opposed a motion on notice file by Counsel to Airhiavbere, Paul Itua seeking extension of time to allow for more witnesses.

He said the application will serve no purposes, stressing that the ruling of the tribunal has taken care of the application.

Oshiomhole, Uduaghan taking cue from Ogbemudia’

Former minister of state for works and chairman, Project 80 planning committee to organise the celebration of the 80th birthday of General Samuel Ogbemudia, Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi, yesterday gave kudos to Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, for the massive infrastructural development in the state.
Ogiemwonyi, who was fielding questions from journalists at the residence of Gen. Ogbemudia, said, “Looking at the roads and schools, both in the urban and the rural areas, it is quite clear that both Oshiomhole and Uduaghan have taken a cue from our father, Gen. S.O Ogbemudia, who we all know developed the infrastructure we now have as Edo and Delta.
“Let me tell you, whether you like it or not, the two governors are in their mid 50s; they all witnessed the administration of Ogbemudia in Midwest and Bendel state. So, they know what it takes to develop ones state.
“If I look round today, Benin city is taking a new shape in terms of roads, schools. I really have to commend him and his counterpart in Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, for standing for the principles General Ogbemudia is known for.”
