Why we constructed N16.5bn dual carriageway, 10 township roads in Ilesa industrial corridors —Osun govt

The Osun State Government on Saturday said N16.5bn dual carriageway and 10 township roads in Ilesa industrial corridors were constructed to stimulate economic growth, expand business hubs and support start-ups in the ancient town.

Speaking with newsmen during an assessment visit to the road, the Director of Highways, Moruf Ojebode, noted that the road projects were part of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s infrastructure-driven agenda to reposition Ilesa as a major commercial and economic hub in the state.

He added that the improved road network, which totalled 20kilometers eased movement, enhanced access to markets and industrial clusters, and created a more enabling environment for investors and small-scale businesses.

According to him, Ilesa, an ancient city, has never witnessed a dual carriageway before; it was this administration that brought that to the city. We have a dual carriageway that spans from the palace of the Owa-Obokun, to Imo—international brewery to Ilesa—Akure expressway. The total length is 6.2km, which has the width, walkway with solar-powered street lights.

“If you look at the geography of Ilesa, you will discover that the industrial section of it is the road that we have chosen. We have an international brewery and others that are located on the corridor of that road. You will discover that after the completion of that road, those areas and houses have transformed into companies and business hubs.

“That dual carriageway has put Ilesa in the limelight; it has developed the town more by bringing out the majestic uplift of the ancient town.

“We have completed other roads in the town, numbering about 10, namely: Ademoroti, Ogbon Titun, Bonke, Ita Ofa, Atakunmosa market, Imose, Adeti, Oke Ese, Ajimoko and INEC roads.”

The community, through their leaders, lauded the infrastructure interventions and endorsed Governor Adeleke for a second term in office, stating that it resonated with their demands.

The council chairman of Ilesa West, Hon. Oladiti Aluko, advised the residents and road users against activities capable of damaging the road.

Also, a community head, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, said: “All Ilesa indigenes are behind Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term. He has done so well in the area of infrastructure, and we must continue to support his government.”

Similarly, the Vice Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers(NURTW), Abuja Park, Temitope Matthew, said: “This road is beneficial to my members, and we are in full support of this government. We will vote for him massively inthe  2026 guber poll.”

Osun Imam, 3 others arrested as family disrupt Jumu’ah prayer after worshippers lynch car painter

The Chief Imam of Ummu Hanni Adigun Memorial Central Mosque, Ogo-Oluwa area, Osogbo and three others have been arrested by the Osun State Police Command after worshippers lynched a car painter, Najeem Hammed to death.

Following the incident, family members of the deceased disrupted the Jumu’ah prayer at the mosque on Friday.

It was learnt that Najeem, a car painter whose workshop is located at the Jaye area of Osogbo, had gone to the mosque along Ogo-Oluwa area to pray around 6 am on Friday when the incident happened.

A source around the mosque who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that after the early morning prayer, the Imam was preaching when Najeem felt irritated by the words, hence he threatened to attack the clergyman.

“Najeem attempted to use the microphone rod to hit the Imam, but he dodged it. The worshippers took him up, which he resisted. He was dragged outside the mosque, mobbed and left inside the gutter in front of the premises, bleeding.

“Some members of the mosque notified the police at Ataoja Police Division, and they came to carry him from the scene to the police station. He died along the way as a result of the assault.”

When our correspondent visited the mosque around 1 pm, the family members of the deceased were protesting in front of the mosque while the Imam was preaching ahead of Jumah’at prayer, stating that the service can not be held after Najeem was killed in the premises a few hours ago.

Subsequently, Police operative stormed the mosque and whisked the Imam away to the Ataoja Divisional Police Division, as the family members and sympathisers later took over the mosque’s entrance, preventing worshippers from gaining access.

They equally threatened to burn the mosque if any prayer is rendered or any attempt is made to open the mosque.

A family member simply identified himself as Nurudeen, disclosed that “Najeem was beaten to death at the mosque by the worshippers after an altercation ensued in the mosque. He was going to Ibadan this morning, but visited the mosque for Subuhi prayer when he was mobbed to death.

“When we called to ask about his journey, a policeman picked up the call and told us that he had an altercation with some people and was held at Ataoja police station. When we got there, that was when we realised that he was dead.”

Bloodstains were sighted on the fence of the mosque and the plank of wood in front of the mosque.

When contacted, the Osun State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident.

He clarified that the victim was not attacked inside the Mosque but around it. We have arrested the Imam and three others connected to the incident. Further investigation has been launched to unravel the actual cause of the incident.

According to him, the incident happened this morning around 6 am. No suspect has been arrested, but information is on high gear to get those who perpetrated this evil act arrested. The DPO and other Tactical Teams have been deployed to maintain law and order. The corpse has been deposited at the Osun State Teaching Hospital.”

Ojelabi insisted that the deceased was mobbed around the Mosque and not actually inside the Mosque.

Meanwhile, narrating what transpired, a family member of the victim, Alhaji Musbaudeen Daud, said, “The incident occurred on July 26, 2025, at about 4:00 p.m., when Ismail Abiodun, Usman Ademola, and Faruq went to cut grass at Arademi Area, Ikire.

“Abiodun and Ademola allegedly lured Faruq into a remote bush, attacked him, and cut open his abdomen in an attempt to remove vital organs. They removed the victim’s scrotum but fled when the victim raised an alarm.

“Farouq was rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital before he was referred to the University College Hospital (UCH) for further treatment.

“Farouq took permission from his mother before coming to his grandma’s place. He was missing after eating that day. We searched for him, but we didn’t see him till the following day, when the Police came to us and said he had been found, but in UCH.

“We were told that he was kidnapped, and some of his kidnappers have been arrested. The two prime suspects initially arrested by the Police confessed to the crime and said they used to sell the harvested organs to some people at the Owode market in Apomu

“We have spent between 16 and 18 million on Farouq.”

He, however, called for adequate justice for the victim, lamenting that ritual killings have been a recurring issue in the area.

He said three such incidents had happened a few years back without perpetrators of such acts being dealt with.

“We want the intervention of the government on the issue so that this matter will not be swept under the carpet.”

The event featured a Unity Walk led by the Executive Director of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, Engr. Kayode Sowade and other party leaders aimed at fostering cohesion ahead of a planned house-to-house sensitisation campaign for the 2026 Osun governorship election.

Supporters gathered at Iraye Junction, marched through Oke-Amala, and concluded the walk at the palace.

  • Osun denies discovery of 8,452 ghost workers, N13 billion annual loss by consultant

Osun denies discovery of 8,452 ghost workers, N13 billion annual loss by consultant

The Osun State Government has denied discovery of 8,452 ghost workers by the consultant, Sally Tibbot Limited hired for staff audit in January 11 2023.

The government alleged that the consultancy firm, which conducted the exercise between June and December 2023, arbitrarily inflated the number of ghost workers to get more pay for the service rendered.

The Nation recalled the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the firm, Sa’adat Bakrin-Ottun, said the State Government is paying the ghost workers a sum of N13,716,914,129.28 annually with her discovery revealing pervasive payroll fraud within the state’s civil and public service system.

She stated that 125 personnel were deployed during the exercise both on-site and remotely, and expending over N600m to execute the contract.

But Osun State Government through the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, described the claims by the consultant as a subtle blackmail to force a fraudulent staff audit report on the state.

He said those the company claimed are ghost workers were legitimate employees of the state government.

The State Government further proposed to furnish the company with proof of the existence of each of these workers, if the same is required.

However, Alimi noted: “The company did not at any point in time request for such proof nor send an acceptance letter for payment based on about 1,316 workers who were not seen.”

The government noted that the entire saga became more suspicious, especially as company’s fees was based on the amount of money she saves the State government on the payroll, indicating that the company’s claim was based on greed especially going by the consultant’s high handedness, open exclusion of staff during auditing process and deliberate maltreatment of workers that characterised the entire audit processes.

“The state Government further submitted that while it was eager to clean up the state payroll, it can not in good conscience remove legitimate state government employees from the payroll and cannot submit to an audit report that has the potential to further defraud the state government.

“Submitting that it is within its right to review an audit report before implementation, the government noted that the existence of open gaps, verifiable lapses, several battles during the audit process and high number of ghost workers compelled the setting up of a verification committee as a prelude to the implementation of the staff audit report.”

He stressed: “Sally Tibbot Consulting (Nig.) Ltd had declared 8,448 workers as unseen workers while 6,713 retirees were declared as ghost retirees. But the conclusion was arrived at by the company without making any efforts to call each of these workers to ascertain the reason for their absence.

“Upon the receipt of the report of the exercise carried out by Sally Tibbot Consulting (Nig.) Ltd, in order to avoid a situation where an honest worker would be declared a ghost worker only by reason of such worker’s absence from verification, especially if the reason for such absence is ill-health the Osun state Government carried out an in-depth analysis of the report and the following was discovered: Out of the total number of 8,448 workers declared by Sally Tibbot Consulting (Nig.) Ltd as unseen workers, the Osun State Government was able to confirm 8,015 as active workers while 433 workers were found to be unreachable.”

He continued “Also, out of the total number of 6,713 retirees declared as ghost workers by Sally Tibbot Consulting (Nig.) Ltd as unseen workers, the Osun State Government was able to confirm the existence of 5,830 retirees while 883 could not be reached.

“The implication of this is that the percentage claim payable to Sally Tibbot Consulting (Nig.) Ltd reduced drastically by virtue of the fact that the said Sally Tibbot Consulting (Nig.) Ltd attempted to reap where she did not sow by inflating the number of ghost workers/retirees to 15,161 when in actual fact, the unseen workers/retirees are about 1,316.”

“On 23rd July, 2025, the counsel to Sally Tibbot Consulting (Nig.) Ltd wrote another letter insisting that payment should be made on 15,161 as against the about 1,316 workers, claiming that the agreement between the company and Osun State Government did not envisage a re-verification exercise by the government.

“It should be emphasised that the state government stands by the recommendations of its re- verification committee which stated as follows: That the total emolument (gains) to the (Government from the unseen personnel is Twenty-seven Million, Seventy•seven Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty-Seven Naira, Sixty Kobo (N27,077,847.60) only as opposed to One Billion, Three Hundred and Fifteen Million, Three Hundred and Seventeen Thousand, Six Hundred and Sixty-four Naira, Three Kobo (NI318,3 17,664.03) given by the Consulting firm.”

    “That the main Committee was of the conviction that enough time and action have been taken on the re-verification exercise, based on this, it recommends as follows: That the salaries and pensions as well as palliatives of the unseen staff (active and retirees) be permanently stopped with effect from July, 2025;

“That the Consultant be paid the sum of Forty-eight Million, Seven Hundred and Forty Thousand, One Hundred and Twenty-five Naira, Sixty-eight Kobo (N48,740,125.68) representing 159% of the annual gross salaries and allowances the re-verification enabled the Government to save in one year in line with Section 3(3.1) of the MoU between the State Government and the Consulting firm on the exercise.”

Ahead of the Osun State 2026 governorship election slated for August 8, the State Working Committee (SWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rallied the eight gubernatorial aspirants to close ranks and work as a united front ahead of the poll.

The party declared that the emergence of Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) as the party’s flagbearer sent jitters into the ruling party’s camp.

A statement by the party’s Director of Media, Chief Kola Olabisi, on Wednesday disclosed that, raising from APC maiden meeting in the New Year, the state chairman of the party, Tajudeen Lawal, was full of praises for the eight governorship aspirants of the party who embraced the emergence of the choice of Oyebamiji without resorting to crisis, rancour, and animosity.

He said, “Lawal also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, the leadership of Agba Osun, and other important personalities whose roles manifested in the successful emergence of one out of all the qualified governorship aspirants of the party.

“The successful conduct of the party’s governorship election, which culminated in the seamless emergence of Asiwaju Oyebamiji, has sent jitters into the camp of the ruling party and others, as their hitherto sing-song had been that the exercise would be a recipe for imminent implosion.

“Lawal explained that the prevalent peace and tranquility being enjoyed in the party today is due to the successful conduct of the governorship primary election, which was made possible by the embracement of the culture of supremacy of the party by the eight notable aspirants.

“He stated that the names of the eight governorship aspirants who did not allow their aspirations to bring down the roof of the party shall be written in gold in the political history of the party in the state.”

“Otunba Iyiola Omisore, former deputy governor, one-time Senator and former National Secretary of the APC; Omooba Dotun Babayemi, a legal practitioner and businessman; Mr. Benedict Olugbenga Alabi, former state deputy governor; Dr. Akinde Akanmu Ogunbiyi, an insurance magnate; Mr. Kunle Rasheed Adegoke(SAN), a reputable and successful legal practitioner.

“Also, Mr. Babajide Omoworare, a legal practitioner, former senator, former House of Assembly member in Lagos State, and former aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari; Dr Mulikat Abiola Jimoh, former member of the state House of Assembly, and Mr. Babatunde Hareter Oralusi, a development financier, as the governorship aspirants are responsible for sustaining peace in the party.”

“He enjoined the aspirants to continue to inform their lieutenants and supporters on the need for the party to go into the 8th August, 2026, governorship election as an indivisible and impenetrable team with a view to winning the election and chasing Governor Ademola Adeleke back to his Ede country home.”

The statement added that both formal and informal reconciliation exercises are ongoing in the party, but it was imperative for him to single out the governorship aspirants who have proven by their actions and inactions that they are complete party men, come rain or shine.

    …NLC kicks, tags arrest harassment

Four yet-to-be-named Osun State Local Government workers were arrested for allegedly carting away documents and stealing property of council during resumption of duties.

The Nation recalled that members of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) resumed duties after an 11-month strike action following control crisis between executives of All Progressives Congress(APC) and Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) since 2025.

Upon resumption, two workers in Boluwaduro council were arrested by the APC-reinstated chairmen who welcomed the members of NULGE to their duty posts.

It was gathered the top civil servants at the council allegedly smuggled into the premises and packed stationery with some vital documents inside a sack.

A source disclosed that that when they were about to put the loots inside a car when caught and handed over to the police at the premises of the secretariat.

Also, in Egbedore LGA, one council worker was arrested in Egbedore for allegedly stealing documents of the local government area.

Similarly, a worker was arrested in Ayeedaade Local Government Area for stealing a stamp used for local government identification and other vital documents of the council.

Speaking on behalf of APC Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Chief Adegoke Ogunsola disclosed that the resumption of workers was seamless but four workers were arrested for stealing.

“We have a situation in Egbedore, Ayedaade and Boluwaduro councils. Four workers were arrested, they were not harrassed but handed over to police for further investigation.”

Efforts to get reaction from Police Command were abortive as the Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi promised to get back but failed to do so as of the time of filing this report. He refused to pick subsequent calls.

The Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC), Osun chapter led by Comrade Chris Arapasopo and the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) kicked tagging the arrest as harassment of the workers.

Arapasopo in a statement warned against arrest tagging it as harassment of Osun local government workers across Osun state, vowing to take labour action if the situation does not stop forthwith.

    • APC alleges plan to procure court order to stop autonomy

Osun State Local Government workers yesterday day resumed at their duty posts after 11-month strike, amid heavy security deployment across council secretariats.

Members of Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Osun State chapter, embarked on strike on February 16, 2025 after All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) excos laid claim to the control of the local governments.

Our correspondent, who toured some secretariats, observed that there was heavy security presence at the councils, with the patrol vans of police stationed in front of the secretariats.

The reinstated chairmen of APC welcomed workers to their duty posts, as they promised to work with them to strengthen good governance at the grassroots.

Among the councils visited are Olorunda, Osogbo, Orolu, Irepodun, Boluwaduro, Boripe and Obokun.

In Osogbo, the Vice Chairman, Rasak Latona, welcomed back the workers, urging them to work with him to drive the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He berated the 11 months strike by NULGE.

Latona confirmed that over 300 workers resumed at the councils, saying: “So far so good, it has been peaceful and well-coordinated. While coming in, we can see security apparatus at the entrance checking who is supposed to be in, so there won’t be any trouble.”

The President of NULGE in Osun State, Dr Kehinde Ogungbangbe, expressed happiness about resumption of his members across the state.

However, he alleged that police were biased because they allowed the APC council chairmen into the secretariats, contrary to their earlier warning that they would not tolerate the presence of any.

He said: “To my utmost dismay today, I discovered that the police were opening gates for the politicians to enter the local government secretariats. The control crisis still lingers and the case is in court, so politicians ought to stay away from the local governments.”

Speaking on behalf of the APC council executives, Chief Adegoke Ogunsola denied police bias, but noted that security operatives only backed legality.

“We have been at the councils since February last year. The keys of the secretariats have been with us. We opened the door for the returning workers today and police checked all those that went inside the councils.

“The NULGE executives were at the gate to identify their colleagues without identity cards. Some of our supporters that went to the secretariats with us were sent back because they have no business there. We are at the councils and we are operating autonomously.”

Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State branch and APC yesterday raised the alarm over plot to stall governance at local governments.

APC alleged that despite Supreme and Appeal Court verdicts, which backed the reinstated executives, Osun State Government had concluded plans to procure order from Federal High Court and Magistrates’ Court to stall governance at the grassroots level.

Amid the control crisis between council executives of APC and PDP, several court verdicts and cases set room for confusion to decide who is legally backed by the law to be in-charge of the councils.

Executives of APC have been at the councils since last February and council workers who backed PDP excos resumed duties yesterday.

Addressing reporters at the APC state secretariat, ALGON Chairman, Abiodun Idowu, blamed Osun State Government for defiance of apex court verdicts on the legitimate excos of the council.

Also, APC, through its Director of Media, Chief Kola Olabisi, urged the National Judicial Council (NJC) to treat the petition filed against some judges over their conducts in granting orders.

“The entire judiciary of the country is further humbly notified that the judgments in Appeal No: CA/AK/15/2025 and the Supreme Court Suit No. SC/CV/773/2025 have jointly put to rest any purported claim of the Osun State Government over the local government council allocations and subsistence of office of the APC chairmen and councillors.

“This is against the background of the latest self-deceit of Osun State Government, which has returned again to the Federal High Court and the Magistrates’ Court in Suit No. FHC/OS/CS/291/2025 and Charge No. MOS/601C/2025 respectively over the same subject matter already settled by the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.”

Efforts to get reaction from Osun State Government was abortive, as the Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, did not respond to calls and text messages sent to his phone at press time.
