Man sentenced for stealing a microfinance bank N935,000
An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Wednesday sentenced a 29-year-old man, Dotun Akande, to one year in prison for N935.000 belonging to Orisun Microfinance Bank.In a ruling, Senior Magistrate G. E. Akan, however gave the convict an option to pay N20,000 fine.Akande, who lives at No. 28 Ayantunde St., Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, had pleaded guilty to stealing.Earlier, Mr Chudu Gbesi, the prosecutor, had told the court that the accused committed the offence sometimes between May and August, 2016.He said the accused, who was the staff of the Microfinance Bank, collected N935, 000 from customers and refused to remit the money to his employer.The prosecutor said that the convict converted the money to his personal use.Gbesi said that the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.NAN -
Man docked over alleged attempt to defile toddler
A 25-year-old man, Ashofo Monday, was on Tuesday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun over alleged attempt to defile a toddler.
Monday, who lives at No. 23, Ogundele St., Iyana-Iyesi in Ota, is facing a count charge of attempted defilement.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Rosemary Samson, told the court that the accused attempted to defile a three-year-old girl at 3.30p.m. on Nov. 4 at his residence.
Samson said that the accused attempted to defile the toddler by ejaculating on her laps.
She said that the accused was caught in the act by his neighbour, who reported the case at the Onipanu Police Station, Lagos.
Gbesi said that the offence contravened Section 360 of the Criminal Code, Law of Ogun, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs B. S. Abdulsalam, granted the accused N500, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Abdulsalam ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
She adjourned the case until Nov. 19 for further hearing.

Fake herbalist docked for allegedly swindling woman of N14,500
A 25-year-old fake herbalist, Afirosi Akinsola, on Wednesday appeared in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly swindling one Blessing Oladele of N14.500 for the preparation of a “protection” charm for her.
Akinsola who lives at No. 8 Damola St., Atan, Ota, is facing a two counts of obtaining money under false pretense and threat to life.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Oct. 25 at about 10 a. m. at Olounda, Atan, Ota.
Gbesi said that the accused collected N14.500 from the complainant, with a promise to prepare charm for her for protection.

He said that when the complainant asked the accused to return her money when he failed to deliver the charm, he threatened her.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 86 and 419 of the Criminal Code Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr G. E. Akan, granted the accused bail in the sum of N5, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Akan ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
The case was adjourned until Nov. 21 for further hearing.

Three men docked over alleged cultism in Ogun
Three men, Femi Hassan, 39, Gabriel Benson, 25, and Wasiu Ogunjobi, 19, were on Tuesday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court for allegedly belonging to a secret cult, `Eiye Confraternity’.
The accused, of no fixed address, were facing a two-count charge of unlawful possession of firearms and belonging to a secret cult.
The prosecutor, Insp. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the accused persons and others still at large conspired to belong to an unlawful society called Eiye Confraternity.
According to Mustapha, the accused men committed the offences on Feb. 27 at about 11.00 p.m. at Gasline area, Ijoko, Ota.
He said that the accused persons conspired to create fears into the minds of residents by threatening people with cutlass, axes and knife.
Mustapha said the offences contravened Section 3 and 5 of the Secret Cult (Prohibition and Special Provision) Act Laws of Ogun State, 1999.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Matthew Akinyemi, granted them bail in the sum of N200, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
Akinyemi said that one of the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must be gainfully employed.
He also ordered that the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government and their addresses should be verified by the Police.
The case was adjourned until April 4, for definite hearing.

Man docked over alleged theft of Aluminum
A 28-year-old man, Olayiwola Sunday, who allegedly broke into a house and stole an aluminum frame and other valuable items valued at N500,000, was on Friday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.
Sunday, who has no fixed address, is facing two-count charge of stealing and burglary.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on December 7 at about 5.00 a.m at Pen Estate, Lafenwa, Ota.
Gbesi said that the accused broke into the house of one John Adebayo to steal an aluminum frame and other valuable items valued at N500, 000.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 390 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banjo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Banjo said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit of means.
He also ordered that the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government and submit four recent passport photographs to the court.
The case was adjourned until January 31, for hearing.

Pastor docked for duping worshipper of N1.1m
A 40-year-old man, Femi Adewale, was on Thursday arraigned before Chief Magistrate B. B. Adebowale of an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly collecting N1.1 million under false pretences from a worshipper.
Adewale who claimed to be a pastor collected N1.1 million from one Ibukun Aderonmu, with a promise to assist her to solve her spiritual problems.
The accused of No. 22, Farinde St., Ijako, Ota, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Abdulkareem Mustapha told the court that the defendant and others, still at large, committed the offences on Sept. 14 at Ijako area of Ota.
Mustapha said that the defendant and his accomplices collected the money with a promise to help Aderonmu to solve her spiritual problems, an agreement he did not fulfill.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Code Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. B. Adebowale, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said that the sureties must be residing within the court’s jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit of means.
Adebowale also ordered that the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government and submit four recent passport photographs to the court.
The case was adjourned until January 22, 2018 for hearing.

18-year-old docked for stealing Tiger Generator
The police on Tuesday arraigned 18-year-old man, Badmus Quadri in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun over housebreaking and theft of Tiger generator valued at N10,000.Quadri, who lives at No. 18 Ademola Street, Iyana-Ilogbo, Ota, is facing two-count charge of stealing and burglary.The Prosecutor, Cpl. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 4 at about 8 a.m. At Ouse Village, Ota.Mustapha said that the defendant unlawfully broke into the house of Joshua Babalola and stole a Tiger generator valued at N10,000.He said that the offences contravened sections 390(9) and 411(1)(2) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and the Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. B. Adebowale, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.She said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must swear to an affidavit of means.Adebowale also ordered that the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government and submit four recent passport photographs to the court and adjourned the case until January 11, 2018 for hearing. -

Court docked man for N.26m fraud
A 49-year-old man, Ademola Adelesi, who allegedly collected N260,000 under false pretences to supply three trucks of granite to one Olaide Oduwole was on Thursday docked in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.
Adelesi, who lives in Tolani Street, Iyana-Ilogbo, Ota, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining money under false pretences.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 27 at Canaan Land, Living Faith Church, Ota.
Mustapha said that the defendant collected N260, 000 with the pretext of supplying three trucks of granite to Oduwole.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 383(1) and 419 of the Criminal Code Vol.1, Laws of Ogun, 2017.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The chief magistrate, Mrs B. B. Adebowale, granted the defendant bail of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adebowale also ordered that the sureties should provide evidence of tax payment to Ogun State Government and submit four recent passport photographs to the court.
She adjourned the case until January 15, 2018 for hearing.

Man docked for allegedly beating another with plank
A 28-year-old man, Monday Michael, was on Monday charged before an Ota Magistrates Court in Ogun for alleged assault.
Michael, who lives at No. 36, Fadipe Street, Iyana-Ilogbo, Ota, is facing a two-count charge of assault and conspiracy.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused and others still at large, committed the offences on July 25 at about 7.00 p. m. at Iyana-Iyesi, Ota.
Gbesi said that the accused and his accomplices conspired to assault one Jelili Badru by using a plank wood to inflict injuries on his neck.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 351 and 452 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N450,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Banwo said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit of means.
He also said that the sureties should submit four recent passport photographs to the court and show evidence of tax payment from the Ogun Government.
The case was adjourned until Sept. 20, for hearing. -

Man docked for alleged fraud
A 48-year-old man, Wale Akintola, was on Tuesday arraigned in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for allegedly collecting N2.1million under false pretence.
Akintola, who lives at No. 16 Jaiyeola St., Iyana-Ilogbo, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining money under false pretence.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the offences were committed on Feb. 21, 2015 at about 9.00 a. m., at Sona area, Ijako-Ota, Ogun.
Gbesi said that the defendant collected N2.1 million from one Odofin Oladimeji, to construct wall robes and kitchen cabinets in the complainant’s building, which he failed to do.
Gbesi said that the offences contravened Sections 249 and 421 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr. S.O. Banwo, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N 450, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Sept. 11 for hearing.
