President hails Oyakhilome at birthday, lauds global impact of his evangelism

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the founder of Christ Embassy and President of LoveWorld Incorporated, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, on the celebration of his birthday.

The President extolled the popular televangelist for his spiritual leadership and charitable works.

In a message yesterday in Abuja by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Pastor Oyakhilome as “an author, televangelist, and charismatic teacher of the Word whose rare gift of insight and charity has impacted lives across nations”.

Pastor Oyakhilome, who established Christ Embassy, one of Nigeria’s largest Christian ministries, is also author of the globally distributed daily devotional, “Rhapsody of Realities”, used by millions of readers across continents.

The President noted that the central theme of Pastor Oyakhilome’s ministry remains love, stressing that his message mirrors the example of Jesus Christ by promoting compassion, hope, and spiritual transformation.

He acknowledged the international reach of the clergyman’s teachings, saying his ministry has significantly shaped Christian evangelism both within and outside Nigeria.

The President wished Pastor Oyakhilome more strength as he continues what he described as “the Lord’s work,” and prayed for continued grace in his service to God and humanity.

The message concluded by celebrating the cleric’s contribution to the spiritual growth of millions of Christians at home and abroad.

FG faults Oyakhilome, warns against excessive salt consumption

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has cautioned against excessive salt consumption following a viral video where Pastor Chris Oyakhilome advocated increased salt intake.

The ministry, through the Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, Alaba Balogun, emphasised that while sodium is essential for bodily functions, moderation is key.

It recommended a daily salt intake of no more than 5 grams (about one teaspoon) and highlighted the risks of excessive consumption, including high blood pressure, stroke, heart failure, and kidney disease.

The ministry is implementing a national sodium reduction strategy and urged Nigerians to seek accurate health advice from qualified professionals.

The statement reads: “The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has observed a widely circulated video in which a respected religious leader discourages Nigerians from heeding medical advice on salt consumption. While we deeply respect the important role of faith and religious leaders in our society, it is crucial to correct misinformation that poses a risk to public health.

“Salt is not the enemy. Salt contains sodium, an essential mineral that supports vital body functions such as nerve activity, muscle movement, and fluid balance. However, the concern lies in excessive consumption, not in salt itself.

“In line with global best practices, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Nigerian Government recommend a maximum of 5 grams of salt per day (about one teaspoonful). Going beyond this threshold increases the risk of preventable disease and death.

“Research shows that most Nigerians consume more than double the recommended daily sodium intake. This excessive intake is a major contributor to high blood pressure, stroke, heart failure, and kidney disease—non-communicable conditions that continue to claim thousands of lives annually.

“To address this growing health crisis, the Ministry is implementing a comprehensive national sodium reduction strategy. This includes the launch of the National Sodium Reduction Guidelines, which aim to reduce sodium content across all food categories—from processed and packaged foods to meals prepared at home or sold in restaurants and by street vendors. This initiative mandates food manufacturers, regulators, and the public in lowering sodium intake without compromising quality and nutrition.

“We wish to state clearly: Doctors do not lie. Nigeria’s health professionals are trained to offer evidence-based guidance rooted in decades of scientific research and patient care. The presence of regulated sodium compounds in certain medications is not equivalent to dietary salt (sodium chloride) and is safe when prescribed appropriately.

“We reaffirm that faith and science are not at odds—they can and should work together for the well-being of our people. We therefore urge Nigerians to seek accurate health advice from qualified medical professionals and to join hands with the Ministry in reducing the burden of preventable diseases”.

Regard your wife as first daughter, not mate, Oyakhilome advises men

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has advised men to view their wives as their first daughters rather than just their mates.

According to him, when a man sees his wife as his mate, he tends to have high expectations, which can lead to frustration and disappointment when those expectations aren’t met.

On the other hand, if a man views his wife as his daughter, he’s more likely to be gracious, understanding, and forgiving.

Preaching to his congregation, he said this perspective encourages men to approach their relationships with empathy and patience.

He said by seeing their wives as daughters, men can cultivate a more nurturing and supportive attitude, rather than simply expecting their partners to meet certain standards.

He said in part: “Take your wife as your first daughter, more than as your mate. If you take her as your mate you will be offended at the things she does because you expect more from her. If you take her as your daughter, you will be gracious and you will overlook all the nonsense.”

Oyakhilome slams music industry for exploiting church

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy has spoken out against the  gospel music industry, accusing it of cheating the church and using it for personal gain.

He claimed that many singers who got their start in the church choir have gone on to pursue worldly fame and fortune, leveraging their church connections for financial benefit.

Oyakhilome argued that these individuals are often motivated by Satan’s influence, using their talents for selfish purposes rather than serving the church.

He urged followers not to support these artists, warning that they risk going to hell.

The Pastor emphasised that true singing ministry should be rooted in the church and dependent on it, rather than standing alone.

He cautioned that those who follow these self-serving artists are often rebels themselves.

He said: “Probably in the last 40-50 years no one has cheated the church more than the music industry. What most of them has ever done was to use the church.

“And if you look at history, long before the years I mentioned, you will see many worldly singers that started in the church.

“They were in the choir leading praise. They ended up in the world. All they ever did was to use the church to make themselves popular. They either start a church with that opportunity or find a way to use that opportunity to make money.

“Satan enters into their mind to give them ideas how to leverage on the opportunity given to them in the house of God for financial reasons. I’ve told you don’t give them any chance anymore otherwise they’ll go to hell. Try to save them. Many of them who wouldn’t go to church. They don’t know the message, they are exposed to a poetic activity. Most of the things they write sinners can write them, they’ll just be nice.

“When you reprimand them, they’ll go and start another church, why with their popularity. But it’s only a matter of time. Those that gather with them are rebels like them.

“All the singers the Bible talked about were in the choir. No special singing ministry. It is a ministry that is dependent on the church. If it stands alone it dies”.

  • Musings on these Men of God (2)

Musings on these Men of God (2)

Jousting against the malaria vaccine, Oyakhilome has not only incited another  circle of conspiracy theories, he has once again pitted the Christian community against the achievements of science, this is likely to create what is known in health parlance as vaccine hesitancy, discouraging  millions from taking the vaccine and could result in slowing down the pushback  against malaria and other diseases that require such vaccines. Yes , Nigeria is still prone to what scholars largely term  as the absolute dependency on religion and for as large a percentage as 70 percent of Nigerians are absolutely dependent on their religions for thinking and living. That is why in Nigeria, a university will take a whole day in organizing prayer sessions while a visit to most government establishments will witness morning prayer meetings during the time scheduled for work. Such prayer meetings are bound to last depending on the overzealousness of the makeshift church members, sadly such spirituality has failed to transform the country and I recall a Canadian Preacher describing spirituality in Nigeria “as wide  as a river bed but only an inch deep!”

Oyakhilome much to my chagrin insists that those pushing the malaria vaccine have another agenda and that vaccines have never worked! Wow! Just Wow!!

He goes on to challenge the figures and declared without scientific fact nor rigor that malaria had never been the continent’s biggest health challenge, the same continent where 95 percent of malaria deaths all over the world occurs in and children under the age of 5 account account for 80 percent of such deaths!

Malaria is a devastating disease that has plagued humanity for centuries, causing untold suffering and death in many parts of the world. It is caused by parasites of the Plasmodium falciparum , which are transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes. Despite significant progress in combating malaria over the years, it remains a major public health challenge, particularly in developing countries where access to healthcare and resources are limited.

To Oyakhilome, vaccines are a way of depopulating the world and so I wonder why the numerous vaccines in existence hasn’t slowed down the world’s population? If anything seems to be slowing such, it should be attributed to factors like urbanization, knowledge and worsening economic conditions which have forced families to reduce the number of children and not vaccines!

For the malaria vaccine, Oyakhilome has repeatedly hounded Bill Gates , founder of Microsoft and one of the world’s biggest names in fighting diseases in the third world. From wrongly quoting Gates on his comments about improving healthcare services and its effect on parents and an informed choice about reproduction to accusing Gates of owning the World Mosquito Program facility in Colombia where he alleged was producing genetically modified mosquitoes to carry out the task of depopulation! Both allegations were both wrong!

In this controversy, it is commonsensical to give Mr. Gates more credibility and expertise on the topic of malaria, as he has been heavily involved in funding research and programs to combat the disease through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Where lies the basis for Oyakhilome’s assertions? At what point can we justify such grim allegations since his expertise may not be as extensive as someone like Bill Gates who has dedicated significant resources to finding solutions for a number of tropical diseases which include malaria.

Again, Bill Gates is a tech entrepreneur turned philanthropist who has dedicated significant resources to combatting diseases such as malaria through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Gates believes in the power of science, innovation, and evidence-based interventions to address public health challenges. He has invested heavily in research, development, and implementation of tools and technologies to prevent and treat malaria, such as insecticide-treated bed nets, antimalarial drugs, and vaccines.

Bill Gates takes a different approach, emphasizing the importance of evidence-based interventions and public health strategies in tackling malaria. He argues that while faith and spirituality can provide comfort and psychological well-being, they should not be relied upon as the sole means of disease prevention and treatment. Gates believes that scientific research, data analysis, and innovation are essential tools in the fight against malaria, and that investments in research and development can lead to significant progress in reducing the burden of the disease.

Now even if Oyakhilome has issues with the vaccine why not use a number of faith based medical institutions to assert such claims rather than making a mockery of the pulpit and the Church at large?

This debate between Oyakhilome and  Gates on the issue of malaria reflects a broader conflict between faith-based and evidence-based approaches to health and development in developing nations.

It’s not just malaria, I mentioned COVID and his false assertion that it was due to the introduction of 5G technology, then there is the talk against the vaccine for Human Papilloma Virus, HPV which has experienced tremendous success rates.

However, can we imagine the cost, in terms of lives of millions of Nigerians and other nationalities who not only because of poverty and the obvious level of decrepit health infrastructure fall prey to such teachings and deny themselves access to such vaccines?

  • Oyakhilome’s estranged wife disowns reconciliation rumour

Pastor Anita Ebhodaghe has finally come out to refute claims that she reconciled with her former husband and General Overseer of Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, and had rejoined the church. Ebhodaghe, in a statement issued by her solicitors, Attwaters Jameson Hill, on February 8, re-affirmed the dissolution of the clergywoman’s marriage with Oyakhilome and also announced that she would drop Oyahkilome from her name forthwith.

Some individuals who felt concerned about the divorce of the two pastors had been working at reconciling them. That was why it was believed by many when several blogs spun reports that the estranged couple had settled their differences out of court and had got back together.

But in a statement she posted on her blog, Ebhodaghe denied insinuations that she had made up with the televangelist. She stated that with regard to the formal notification of the dissolution of her marriage made by her solicitors earlier this year, nothing has changed, adding that she is no longer a part of Christ Embassy.

She said the clarification became necessary to ensure that no one is misled by the false rumours that are spread from time to time on the Internet.
