  • A word for Governor Oyebanji

    A word for Governor Oyebanji

With the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election date set, the stage is now ready. The key issue is that incumbent Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, aka BAO, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) appears poised to win unopposed. It is much like a candidate in a parliamentary system who is “returned unopposed” due to a lack of challengers.

Currently, Ekiti State lacks a discernible opposition, which is unfortunate, given its longstanding and much-admired focus on human capital development. It would be an astonishing feat if any discernible opposition could coalesce in the coming months to give the governor a close run. While politics is notoriously unpredictable, with events capable of shifting the landscape rapidly, the current outlook suggests that a game-changer is unlikely.

In the thrilling game of Ekiti governance, all the chips are, as of today’s diagnostics, firmly in Oyebanji’s hands. Many people think that this is deservedly so, and those who think so include many non-APC members as well as those unaffiliated to partisan acrimony. With the June 20, 2026, governorship election on the horizon, it therefore seems improbable that the contest will turn out to be a Nollywood blockbuster.

BAO’s calm mien and disposition has undoubtedly smoothed his path to reelection. His leadership style has been characterized by a pragmatic approach which balances idealism with the practical realities of governance. In many ways, his approach to issues of governance bears a striking resemblance to President Theodore Roosevelt’s often-quoted philosophy of “speaking softly and carrying a big stick.”

By wielding this “big stick” judiciously, the Ikogosi, Ekiti State-born consummate politician has made impactful interventions without resorting to force or unnecessarily stepping on toes. A prime example is his initiative to establish, or, revive, as it were, commodity boards and exchanges in the agriculture sector. This initiative portrays astute thinking and strategic acumen.

The establishment of commodity boards in Ekiti State is poised to be a paradigm-shifting move. By introducing minimum farm gate price guarantees, storage facilities, and potentially cold storage facilities in urban markets, these boards have the potential to catalyze a transformative impact on farm productivity. Under Oyebanji’s leadership, critical thinking is being translated into transformative practice, thus yielding tangible benefits for the state.

In his almost three years in office, Oyebanji has made a significant impact on Ekiti State. Key achievements include securing an $80 million AfDB fund for the Ekiti Knowledge Zone (EKZ) project, empowering MSMEs with grants and credit, and restoring electricity to over 20 communities.

Building on these initiatives, his administration has recruited 1,300 primary school teachers, invested N14 billion in the renovation and construction of 203 public schools, and paid N546.9 million in WASSCE examination fees for 16,269 students. Healthcare facilities have been upgraded, and infrastructure projects such as road construction and flood control have been undertaken.

Oyebanji has also cleared salary arrears, strengthened security, and fostered a peaceful political climate. The populace has responded positively to the governor’s initiatives. This positive sentiment is profound, with no signs of widespread discontent or significant protests against government policies. In a state that, in some period, experienced flashes of turbulence, BAO’s leadership has marked a remarkable turnaround.

In an era marked by performative politics, Oyebanji’s commitment to genuine leadership has demonstrated the effectiveness of substance over spectacle. Given his impressive track record, the governor’s trajectory suggests a strong likelihood of reelection, rendering the notion of an ‘opposition’ seemingly inconsequential as their efforts appear futile against his governance paradigm. A properly conducted opinion poll – and there should be one – would most likely place his approval ratings above the 60% mark, underscoring the electorate’s appreciation for his commitment to substantive governance.

Again, the unfolding narrative of Ekiti State’s politics presents a compelling conundrum. The opposition’s ability to coalesce and mount a challenge against Oyebanji’s quietly effective governance will be a telling test of their mettle. Can they transcend their internal fissures and capitalize on the unpredictability of politics to orchestrate a stunning reversal of fortunes? If they get a miracle, it will be quite a blockbuster, one that would highlight the inherent uncertainties of democratic processes.

As of today, the conventional wisdom is that Oyebanji, with steady gains, is coasting home to a clear-cut, decisive victory. However, he would do well to resist complacency and continue working tirelessly to secure his win and fulfill his leadership responsibilities. Complacency can be a treacherous path, and maintaining momentum is crucial.

BAO’s Town Hall meetings across the senatorial districts have been effective, and continuing this engagement with the people will be key to his success. The governor must continue to interact with the people, listen to their complaints, take their questions and provide solutions to their problems. He should even go as far as institutionalizing the meetings on the radio and television stations.

The example of Bill Clinton, who was still firing Executive Orders minutes into the expiration of his tenure as the 42nd US President, illustrates the importance of sustained effort. Even with a weak opposition, Oyebanji must stay vigilant, as the electorate’s attention span is short-lived. By continually highlighting his accomplishments and addressing the people’s concerns, he can build a strong foundation for his leadership.

For those who care to know, Oyebanji’s media strategy has been exemplary; and his media team has demonstrated innovative thinking and a deep understanding of the governor’s vision. Matter-of-factly, the team has elevated the narrative of governance and demonstrated the power of strategic communication.

Nevertheless, a leader’s narrative must be continually reinforced to stay ahead of shifting public opinion. In other words, there’s room for an amplified public presentation of the governor’s achievements, especially as 2026 approaches. It cannot be enough, but mere sufficiency can be problematic.

The experience of former UK Prime Minister John Major serves as a valuable lesson. Despite his impressive performance in office. As Niccolò Machiavelli noted, politics hinges on constant reminders.  Major lost the reelection to Tony Blair due to ineffective communication. Oyebanji would benefit from consistently telling the stories of his impactful initiatives. He must ensure that they remain at the forefront of public discourse.

The stories of MKO Abiola and President Bola Tinubu also speak to the media’s profound impact on historical memory and leadership narratives. While Abiola’s legacy endures despite being ‘The President Who Never Ruled’, Tinubu’s strategic media presence, even after leaving office as Lagos State governor in 2007, has bolstered his influence. Oyebanji can draw valuable lessons from these examples, particularly in harnessing effective media deployment to foster public trust.

Against this backdrop, recent baseless reports of the governor’s alleged ties to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) epitomize the malicious politicking that often surfaces during critical times. Given that these claims aim to drive a wedge between the governor and the president, Oyebanji’s need for consistent and engaging media interactions with the public has never been more pressing.

In politics, visibility is crucial, and proactive media engagement can make all the difference. No matter how acceptable a man may be in the eyes of the people, every genuine leader has opponents lurking in the shadows. Even in the home, there can be saboteurs, malcontents, or others, who – often motivated by personal grievances or disaffection – seek to undermine efforts or create discord.

Just as Nehemiah encountered Sanballat and Tobias, Oyebanji may face unexpected challengers. These adversaries can be relentless, with professional propagandists capable of creating significant trouble. Therefore, the watchmen must remain vigilant while the governor focuses on infrastructure and reasonable politics. The defensive and offensive strategies need to be proactive to counter the misinformation and distractions that will likely arise, including false claims about BAO’s supposed shift to the ADC.

May the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, grant us peace in Nigeria!

APC dismisses Oyebanji, Fayemi’s defection plan

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has dismissed the claim that Governor Biodun Oyebanji and former Governor Kayode Fayemi are planning to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti, the party’s publicity secretary, Segun Dipe, described the reports as “sheer recklessness” and “mindless propaganda.”

Dipe emphasised that the governor and Fayemi are reliable leaders of the party and have no intention of leaving the APC for the ADC.

The APC spokesman noted that the duo has been instrumental in building the APC in Ekiti State and has invested their time, energy, and resources into the party.

He said, “These are our two leaders with no history of disloyalty to the ruling party. They are not turncoats in our party. For anyone to cook up such a lie that they are porting to another party is playing dirty politics and reckless propaganda, which should not be taken seriously by anyone.”

“Along with the first executive Governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, the trio is consolidating our party in the State, and anyone not queuing behind them is not known to the Party.

“Are we thinking of APC in Ekiti without an Otunba, a JKF or a BAO? Not at all. Could we have maintained our stronghold of APC being the living and the ruling party in Ekiti State without the trio of Adebayo, Fayemi and Oyebanji? I doubt it.

“How reasonable is it for anyone to think that Fayemi, as the master builder of the house, would abandon it for a rented apartment, or Oyebanji, as the Number One dweller in the house, would go seeking refuge elsewhere?

“This is thoughtless and mindless of the rumour mongers, whose intentions are still unknown to us”, Dipe said.

Dipe, therefore, urged the public to disregard the false reports and instead focus on the development of the state.

There is no plan by Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his predecessor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, to defect from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the governor’s media aide, Yinka Oyebode, said yesterday.

He said the online report insinuating defection is a false and misleading publication being circulated by some unscrupulous individuals.

Oyebode said in a statement that the tissue of lies emanated from the camp of some disgruntled elements in the state.

He said: “Governor Biodun Oyebanji and the public office holders mentioned in the report, remain firmly rooted in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and have no link, neither do they have any plan whatsoever to join the ADC.

“While Dr Fayemi and other leaders of the party mentioned in the report are eminently qualified to defend themselves, it is on record that Dr Fayemi attended the recent APC Caucus meeting held in Iyin- Ekiti, where the caucus endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji for a second term, a decision that was widely published in the print, broadcast and online media.”

Oyebode said Oyebanji had since 1999 been in the progressive fold, adding that he is one of the very few that has never moved out of the progressive movement in Ekiti State.

He lamented that some mischief makers are trying to weaponise Oyebanji’s association with  Fayemi in a bid to cause a rift between the governor and President Bola AhmedTinubu.

Now that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the date for the primary election, we expect them to be bold enough to come out and sell their candidature to party members and Ekitikete rather than seeking an ignoble way to gate crash.”

Oyebanji swears in new Ekiti Chief Judge

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has sworn in Justice Adekanye Lekan Ogunmoye as the 6th substantive Chief Judge of the state.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony on Monday in Ado-Ekiti, the governor urged Justice Ogunmoye to uphold the Constitution and the law, and carry out his duties with utmost integrity and fear of God.

Oyebanji who described the judiciary as the last hope of the common man, affirmed that his administration would continue to support the judiciary by prioritizing the welfare of its members and giving the Judge all the needed support to carry out his duties diligently.

Acknowledging the long standing reputation of excellent and dignity of the state judiciary and emphasizing the need to preserve this heritage, the Governor urged the new Chief Justice to continually raise the bar of excellent and ensure prompt and efficient service delivery that meet global standards.

The Governor said, “Your Lordship, history will judge you not by the accolades you receive today, but by the legacy you leave behind after your tour of duty. In this position, courage and integrity must be your constant companions. Let it be said in years to come that under your leadership, the judiciary of Ekiti State reached a higher standard—one that ensured justice for all, regardless of status, gender, or circumstance.

While congratulating the new Chief Judge on his deserved elevation, Oyebanji said his administration remains committed to the independence of the judiciary and will continue to support judicial reforms, provide resources for improved infrastructure, and promote initiatives that will enhance the delivery of justice across the state.

“The position of Chief Judge is not a mere title—it is a sacred trust. The judiciary is the last hope of the common man because of the institution that guarantees the equality of all before the majesty of the Law. The institution must therefore, be guided, not by sentiment, fear, or favoritism, but by the Constitution and the dictates of the Law. As the most sacred, conservative and apolitical arm of Government, the Judiciary must be manned by persons of unimpeachable integrity, profound legal knowledge and astute administrative capability. These qualities therefore place upon the occupier of this exalted position, a sacred duty to uphold justice at all times regardless of whose interest is involved.

“I therefore implore Your Lordship to be guided by a sense of duty flowing from your years of experience beginning as a State Counsel, and later the Solicitor-General of Ekiti State and much later a Judge of the High Court. It is delightful that one can attest to your unblemished record as a Judge of the High Court for nearly two decades and your eighth months in acting capacity as Chief judge.

“The Ekiti State judiciary has a great reputation, one of excellence and dignity. This is a heritage we are proud of, and one we must protect and advance. I therefore, wish to say that there is more to be done in order to continuously raise the bar and to ensure prompt and efficient service delivery that meet global standards” the Governor asserted.

Since assuming office as the Governor of Ekiti State on October 16, 2022, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, fondly referred to as BAO, has redefined governance by implementing impactful policies and programmes. From improved infrastructure to enhanced healthcare and economic opportunities, his administration has spearheaded tangible interventions that directly enhance the quality of life for all Ekiti residents.

Guided by a deep commitment to the rule of law, Oyebanji envisions a society that is egalitarian, crime-free, and conducive to human flourishing. This vision is rooted in the belief that individuals should be empowered to reach their full potential, and that the state’s role is to create an environment that fosters growth, development and standard of living.

The governor’s extensive experience, shaped by his broad national and international exposure, has uniquely positioned him in Nigerian politics. This experience has not only honed his exceptional human relations skills but also deepened his commitment to selfless service. It has gone a long way in demonstrating his understanding of the importance of interpersonal connections in governance. His tenure as Secretary to the Ekiti State Government (SSG) under the Kayode Fayemi-led administration showcased his diligence, sincerity, and strong work ethic, earning him recognition and trust, and ultimately leading to his rare privilege of administering the state.

Building on this success, his commitment to good governance has yielded several notable achievements, reflecting his forward-thinking approach. Key among these innovations are initiatives such as annual staff retreats and modern manpower capacity building, increased funding for the education sector, enhanced healthcare delivery, and strategic public-private partnerships. Underpinning these efforts is a deep understanding of the importance of meritocracy and the need to transcend parochial boundaries. In the mould of a modern-day John the Baptist, Governor Oyebanji is widely regarded as a harbinger of a new era, driven by a special mission to bring about positive change.

As an avowed reformer, the governor embodies a unique blend of intellectual breadth, clarity of thought, and an unwavering commitment to truth and integrity. His boldness in defending these values has drawn comparisons to legendary figures of the past, earning him a revered place among the Yoruba Afenifere community. As a result, through his actions and ideals, he inspires a new generation of leaders to strive for excellence and uphold the highest standards of character and integrity.

As a leader, Oyebanji is a beacon of guidance and direction for his people. Through community-based interaction and transformation, he seeks to empower Ekitis by fostering a sense of ownership and participation in the governance process. By engaging with the community and driving meaningful change, he positions himself as a champion of progressive ideals, committed to the betterment of society. This is evident in his initiatives to enhance education, healthcare and social welfare, thereby demonstrating a genuine concern for the quality of life of Ekiti residents.

Ekiti State’s strategic geographic location has made it a hub of economic activity. Farming and commerce are thriving in the region; and this has attracted people from diverse backgrounds. This diversity can lead to a complex societal dynamic. In this dynamic, traditional norms and values are reevaluated and adapted. This phenomenon highlights the importance of embracing diversity. It also emphasizes the need to foster a sense of shared citizenship and community. This is crucial for promoting social cohesion and stability in a multicultural society like Ekiti State.

At its core, the state’s economy was rooted in agriculture, which served as the primary driver of growth and development. The sector’s significance was evident in the occupational distribution and consumption patterns of the people. These patterns highlight the intricate relationship between the economy and the daily lives of citizens. This agricultural foundation highlights the importance of understanding the economy’s underlying structures and the interdependencies that shape its trajectory.

BAO’s administration prioritized ambitious development plans to drive rapid economic growth and development in Ekiti State. A key initiative was the partnership with the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti to boost palm oil production, a crucial sector for the state’s economy. The aim is to harness knowledge and resources to drive sustainable development.

The ‘Bring Youth Back into Agriculture’ programme is a visionary initiative. Its goal is to revitalize the state’s agricultural sector. The programme focuses on six staple crops and provides support to young farmers. Its goal is to enhance food production and achieve self-sufficiency in food supply. To support this endeavor, the state government established dormitories in farm settlements, providing a practical incentive to encourage young people to engage in farming.

In addition, a strategic partnership was forged with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. It’s to ensure that agriculture received the attention and resources it deserved. This multifaceted approach underscores the administration’s commitment to sustainable agricultural development and food security.

On Oyebanji’s watch, the construction industry saw significant growth, with several key roads and bridges constructed or upgraded. Notable examples include the Hospital Management Board–Doctors’ Quarters Road, Ado–Ilawe Road, and Ikere–Ise Road. This focus on infrastructure development reflects the administration’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for economic activity and enhancing overall welfare. By investing in these critical projects, the administration aims to drive sustainable development and improve the quality of life for citizens.

The state government invested in constructing farm roads across all 16 Local Government Areas of the state. Furthermore, its advocacy efforts yielded results, as the Federal Government has given attention to most of the dilapidated federal roads linking Ekiti State to neighbouring states. The state government is also committed to providing quality education. To achieve this, it is building new schools and renovating existing ones. The schools are also equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.

Oyebanji’s government has a vision for a Knowledge-Driven Economy (KDE), recognizing that knowledge is a strategic asset for economic advancement. This understanding is reinforced by the experiences of developed and newly-industrialized countries, where knowledge has been a key driver of economic progress.

Building on this insight, the state government has designed programmes aimed at cultivating a highly skilled workforce, with a focus on incentivizing youth to pursue careers in Science, Technology, and Innovation. A cornerstone of this approach is a comprehensive overhaul of the education system, which includes the introduction of modern tools and resources necessary for producing high-quality graduates who are articulate, skilled, IT-literate, innovative and entrepreneurial.

Ekiti State’s healthcare sector has undoubtedly undergone significant transformations in recent years, with notable improvements in both physical infrastructure and medical services. A critical aspect of the administration’s healthcare initiative was the modernization of Ekiti State General Hospitals, equipping them with cutting-edge diagnostic instruments. Building on this momentum, the Health for All (HFA) scheme was launched as a comprehensive approach to promote the highest possible level of physical, mental, and social vitality. Targeting individuals, families, and communities, the scheme has shown promising results.

But Oyebanji’s impact doesn’t stop there. Beyond healthcare, his administration has been instrumental in driving economic emancipation in Ekiti. His leadership approach has been marked by a commitment to progress, positioning Ekiti as a trailblazer in the region. This transformation underscores the impact of visionary leadership on the socio-economic trajectory of a state.

CNPP slams ex-council chair, others over corruption allegations against Oyebanji

Ekiti State chapter of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has debunked allegations of corruption levelled against Governor Biodun Oyebanji by the former chairman of Ado Local Government Area, Mrs Omotunde Fajuyi.

The ex-council chairman, alongside other members of the Make Ekiti Great Again, had at a press conference accused the governor of corruption, claiming the administration was the worst in the history of the state.

Speaking yesterday in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, the CNPP Chairman, Mr. Victor Akinola, said Mrs Fajui led against the Oyebanji administration, adding that they  were discorted to score cheap political gains, mislead Ekiti people and incite them against the administration.

The CNPP chairman added that those allegations were a ploy to distract Oyebanji, who has turned around the fortunes of Ekiti.

He said the Ado-Aramoko Road, which was allegedly abandoned by the state government, is a federal road, claiming Oyebanji have been mounting pressure on federal authorities to ensure its rehabilitation.

He stressed that the state government has reconstructed two state alternative roads, including Ado-Ilawe-Igbara Odo-Igbara Oke Road and Ilawe-Erijiyan-Ikogosi-Ipole Iloro-Efon Alaaye-Osun State Boundary Road, to provide access to travellers going to Ondo, Osun, Oyo and Lagos states.

The statement read in part, “As partners in the Ekiti project, we will not fold our arms and keep silent when some individuals or groups go to the airwaves to churn out deceit, lies, misrepresentation and distortion of facts all in a bid to score cheap political points. Individuals or groups wishing to occupy positions of power to make positive changes are free to do so by joining any of the registered political parties of their choice, canvass for the votes of the electorate who have the power to speak with their votes.

“The recent press conference addressed by promoters of MEGA can be best described as a tissue of lies, cocktail of falsehood, salad of blackmail and blatant misrepresentation, distortion of facts on what is on ground in Ekiti and a failed attempt to distract a performing Governor in person of His Excellency, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, who has been acknowledged within and outside Nigeria to have positively turned the fortunes of Ekiti around with verifiable indices on ground.

“The CNPP is firmly on ground in Ekiti State and political parties who make up the group has its members in all nooks and crannies of the State where the impact of governance of the Oyebanji Administration is being felt through the implementation of the six-pillar agenda which include Governance, Youth Development and Job Creation, Human Capital Development, Agriculture and Rural Development, Infrastructure and Industrialization and Arts, Culture and Tourism.

“When lies, falsehood, half-truths and misrepresentation of facts are left unchallenged, there is a high risk of them being believed and taken as the gospel truth by the unsuspecting members of the public who are consumers of news on the print media, electronic media, internet and social media platforms. As responsible and patriotic citizens of Ekiti State, we are compelled to debunk the lies churned out by the trio of Abimbola Olawumi, Motunde Fajuyi and Gbenga Babawibe in the press conference they addressed in the name of MEGA. These individuals are non resident in Ekiti so they are not in tune with the reality on ground and that is why they have stayed outside to throw stones at their father’s land and we are in receipt of credible intelligence that they are being sponsored by politicians.

“Their allegation that roads are in ruins, schools are collapsing and hospitals are without beds or medicine are false and far from the truth. Governor Oyebanji has carried out comprehensive rehabilitation, construction and reconstruction of roads in all parts of the state which were inaugurated during the first and second anniversaries of his administration. Vice President Kashim Shettima inaugurated some of the roads in June 2024 while former governors Niyi Adebayo, Ayo Fayose Segun Oni, Kayode Fayemi and other eminent personalities inaugurated roads and other projects during the anniversaries.

“The Ado-Aramoko Road, which was alleged to have been abandoned by the Ekiti government is a federal highway but efforts are on to mobilize the contractor to site with Governor Oyebanji mounting pressure and making contacts with the federal authorities to ensure the rehabilitation of the said road. But the mischievous MEGA politicians failed to tell their audience that the state government has reconstructed two alternatives which are state roads to provide access to those travelling to Ondo, Osun, Oyo and Lagos States. These rehabilitated alternatives are Ado-Ilawe-Igbara Odo-Igbara Oke Road and Ilawe-Erijiyan-Ikogosi-Ipole Iloro-Efon Alaaye-Osun State Boundary Road. Presently, Ikere-Igbara Odo Road is undergoing reconstruction to link up with Ilawe-Igbara-Odo-Igbara Oke Road.

“The Oyebanji Administration has invested in the health sector with new projects at Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), nine General Hospitals and over 200 community health centers across the state. All these health institutions enjoy regular supply of drugs through the Central Drugs Store in Ado Ekiti. We want to state emphatically that the videos of dilapidated schools and health centers shown by the MEGA deceivers are old pictures which do not portray the present realities on ground. Interested persons are free to visit the sites of these projects to conduct a fact check to confirm their present state.

“The CNPP also wishes to state that the present administration in Ekiti State has provided employment for thousands of youths through recruitment into Civil Service, Teaching Service, Local Government Service, Fire Service, Amotekun Corps, Agro Rangers, Anti-Grazing Marshals while thousands of youths are also engaged through the Bring Back the Youths into Agriculture scheme in three clusters across the state to boost food security. All these are verifiable facts any interested person can have access to without let or hindrance.

“The Oyebanji Administration also prioritizes empowerment of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through provision of soft loans through collaboration with Bank of Industry, Bank of Agriculture, Small and Medium Entreprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) and other sister agencies which has boosted the capacity of small business owners, market women and artisans. Besides, the Governor also empowers petty traders and youths with cash to boost their trade and procure tools and equipment through his ‘Ojuse BAO’ initiative.

“We in the CNPP also have the fact that the Oyebanji Administration has spent over N14 billion on the renovation and construction work in 203 public secondary schools under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), a World Bank-assisted project. Another recruitment exercise is ongoing to employ new set of teaching and non-teaching staff into public schools by the Oyebanji Administration.

“The allegation by MEGA liars that the civil servants are overburdened and underpaid is not correct. We recall that Governor Oyebanji started implementing the new minimum wage of over N70,000 with the November 2024 salaries which elicited widespread joy among workers who trooped to the Governor’s Office to show their appreciation shortly after they received alerts. The Governor has also increased subvention to state-owned tertiary institutions while the Legislature and the Judiciary now enjoy financial independence. We are aware that the Governor has not stopped the wage bonus award earlier approved for workers before the implementation of the new minimum wage while the free bus shuttle for public workers and pupils and students in uniform still continues to make life easier for the beneficiaries.

“As Governor Oyebanji takes care of serving workers, the Ekiti CNPP knows for a fact that he also takes care of pensioners. It is on record that Mr Governor regularly pays the monthly pension of retirees and has also paid a backlog of gratuity to many sets of pensioners. Oyebanji’s payment of gratuity peaked with the disbursement of N3.5 billion to 829 beneficiaries, which represented the single largest payment of gratuity to one set of beneficiaries in the history of Ekiti State.

“We understand that Governor Oyebanji embarks on trips to the federal capital but these trips are in the interest of the state and have yielded dividends for the development of the state. The visits to development partners, federal agencies, the Presidency, the National Assembly and other places have benefited the state immensely. For example, Mr Governor’s visit to the Defence Headquarters attracted an Air Force base to the state; visit to Ministry of Aviation facilitated the approval of non-scheduled flights to the Ekiti International Agro-Cargo Airport; visit to the National Assembly and Federal Ministry of Works led to the commencement of work on Ado-Ijan-Imesi-Ikare federal highway. It is not easy for the Governor cannot sit down in Ado Ekiti and influence projects to the state, agitate for better welfare for the people of the state and appointments of deserving Ekiti indigenes to key positions.

“Contrary to what MEGA deceivers want the public to believe, Governor Oyebanji upholds probity, accountability and transparency in governance and there is evidence to show for these hence the allegation of mismanagement of public funds leveled by these detractors only exists in their imagination. If they want the public to believe them, they must be ready to provide proof to back up their claims”.

Oyebanji, Fayemi, Adebayo, SGF’s wife, others to honour Fagboyo at 50

Development expert and Special Adviser to former Ekiti Governor Kayode Fayemi on Development Partnerships and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Dr. (Mrs.) Margaret Fagboyo, will on Saturday roll out drums in celebration of her 50th birthday.

Ekiti Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO), will lead two of his predecessors,  Otunba Niyi Adedayo and Kayode Fayemi, wife of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Regina Akume and other dignitaries to celebrate the Ekiti-born philanthropist.

The event billed to take place at BMO Event Arena, Inside River Plate Park, will also have other prominent personalities such as Ondo First Lady, Seun Aiyedatiwa; Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; Senator Yemi Adaramodu (Ekiti South); Ekiti Speaker, Ekiti Adeoye Aribasoye; many House of Representatives members, top government officials, top CSO leaders, development experts and many other diplomats.

Speaking with newsmen Wednesday in Abuja, on her expectations for Nigeria ahead of her birthday, Fagboyo said she envisioned a country where institutions work, where justice is blind, where leadership is driven by integrity, accountability, and a genuine desire to serve.

According to her: “As a passionate Nigerian who believes in the immense potentials of the country, my vision for Nigeria is one of hope, transformation, and inclusive growth.

“I long to see a Nigeria where leadership is driven by integrity, accountability, and a genuine desire to serve – not self. A Nigeria where our diversity becomes our strength, not our division.

“I envision a country where institutions work – where justice is blind, opportunities are accessible, and every citizen feels seen, heard and valued. A land where young people can dream boldly and achieve greatly without having to look beynd our borders. Where women, men, and all marginalized groups are fully included in governance and development.

“Going forward, I expect Nigeria to rise beyond the grip of corruption, insecurity, and poverty. I expect us to prioritize education, invest in healthcare, secure our streets, and harness our vast resources – both human and natural for the common good.

“The road may be long, but I believe in the resilience and brilliance of Nigerians. Together, with vision, courage, and collective action, we can build the Nigeria we all desire – a nation that works, not just for a few, but for all.”

Asked for her regrets in the last 50 years, the mother of three said life has been good to her.

She said: “At 50, I choose gratitude over regret. Life has been good to me at 50 though I experience some challenges too, but every high and low has shaped the woman I am today – stronger, wiser and more grounded.

“If there is any regret, it would only be moments I doubted myself, delayed my dreams, or dimmed my light to make others comfortable. But even those moments taught me valuable lessons. So, no deep regrets – Just reflections, lessons, and a deeper resolve to live the rest of my life with more intention, joy, and courage. I’m embracing this new chapter with open arms and a heart full of purpose.”
