Afenifere hails Oyebanji on infrastructure development

The Ekiti State chapter of the Yoruba socio-cultural organisations, Afenifere has lauded Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his investment and commitment to uplift infrastructures in the state.

Afenifere said the governor in his almost two years in office has demonstrated uncommon commitment to the welfare and socio-economic development of the state.

The deputy chairman of Afenifere in Ekiti state, Bayo Idowu spoke to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital on Tuesday after a tour of ongoing road projects across the state.

Idowu said the ongoing construction of Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki road, the first phase of ring road and township roads visited was a testament to the administration’s dedication to improving the landscape of the state through road construction.

He said: “We want the public to be properly educated on the activities of the government and how the public funds are being expended, that is why we embark on the visitation to some projects being embarked on by the present administration under Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

“We commence our visitation from the Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki road, which is very significant to linking Ekiti to Ilorin in Kwara state and other neighbouring states. Also, we visited the ring road from Iworoko-Are-Afao-Ado, leading to the airport. We equally visited Jimoh Aliu, Obisesan roads

“These are roads very important not only to the commuters but for businessmen because road infrastructure is key to development and even the mantra of prosperity which the governor extols.

“We interacted with the contractors and they told us that the projects were well-funded and would be delivered in record time. Don’t forget that has always been the fulcrum of any project. If a project is not well funded, that means is at the threshold of abandonment.

“And we saw a departure from the past in terms of the quality and design of these roads. We saw a nexus between the governor’s mantra of prosperity and these massive road constructions.

“Going by what we saw across the areas visited in the senatorial district, we were not where we used to be in the past in terms of road in Ekiti and we commend the governor for deploying the state funds properly and judiciously.”

On the increasing inflation and hunger in the land, the group advised the governor to remain committed to his revolution in agriculture in the state, noting that the government’s investment would soon help in achieving food security.

“In a short while, we will soon be in planting season and also harvesting will start, I will urge the governor to ensure the security of our farmers across the state,” he said.

There is peace in Ekiti State because of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s style that has fostered inclusion, wider participation and unity.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank our Governor, I say this everywhere I go to, if you elected somebody to represent you in Abuja and he comes back home to do something it is because they allow him to come back home. If they don’t allow us, we will just remain in Abuja, we will not pass our boundary.

“But we have a Governor today who will sit down with us and say this is what our people need, if you want to do your constituency project, please, work on this list and I know that market development was part of what the Governor discussed with us, transformer was part of it, solar street light was part of it and by the grace of God every member of the national Assembly would pick from the list given to us by the Governor  because if we do not do what the people want at where they want it, it will be useless.

“Your Excellency, we are proud of you and I know that by the grace of God like everyone is saying, anybody that thinks there is vacancy in 2026 is only deceiving himself and I am begging you, don’t let anybody deceive our people. You sent nine of us to Abuja, three senator and six House of Representative members and at the appropriate time, the nine of us will do our advert jointly signed endorsing Governor Oyebanji as our consensus candidate in all the dailies” the Senator stated.

Ekiti state governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has appealed to the youths in the state to shelve the planned nationwide protest in the overall interest of the country.

The governor said that the protest would not solve the country’s socio-economic challenges but only worsen the pains of Nigerians and further inflict damage on the country’s economy.

Oyebanji spoke on Monday, July 29, in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state capital during a stakeholders meeting organized to brainstorm on the planned nationwide protest starting from August 1.

The governor represented by his special adviser on security, Brigadier General (rtd) Ebenezer Ogundana, called on the youths to embrace dialogue in pressing home their demand, warning the protest could be hijacked by criminal elements to cause mayhem and destabilize the country.

The governor who acknowledged that the country is currently going through challenges, said President Bola Tinubu had taken bold steps in addressing the economic challenges and the attendant hardship.

He urged Nigerians to exercise patience and give President Tinubu more time to implement his developmental blueprint towards making the renewed hope agenda a reality.

On his part, the Commissioner of Police, Adeniran Adewale, said that the meeting became necessary to engage relevant stakeholders and take feedback to the appropriate authorities for action.

Akinwale urged all the groups planning to protest in the state to come forward and give necessary details, saying this was necessary to ensure that the protest was peaceful.

Meanwhile, a group under the auspices of Nigerian Youth for Democracy (NYD), has advised Nigerian youths to explore dialogue instead of staging protests that can grind the economy to a halt.

The group’s national coordinator and former special assistant on youth and student Affairs in the state, Comrade Moses Ademiloye said past protests had resulted in arson attacks and violence on perceived political opponents.

Ademiloye added that any protest of national dimension has a high proclivity of causing economic disruptions, forcing businesses to close down, properties damaged, and public resources strained, which he warned can lead to job losses and exacerbate economic hardship for many Nigerians, particularly the struggling youths.

He said: “While protest is a form of expression, it should not replace constructive dialogue and democratic processes. Engaging in protests without exhausting other means of communication and negotiation can undermine the very democratic principles we seek to uphold.

“In light of these potential consequences, I urge all Nigerian youths to consider alternative, constructive means of effecting change. Let us engage with policymakers, community leaders, and stakeholders through dialogue. Present well-researched, viable solutions to the issues at hand. Constructive engagement can lead to meaningful changes without the risks associated with protests”, he added.
