    Community seeks Oyebanji’s intervention in kingship tussle

    Residents and leaders of Araromi Ekiti in Ijero Local Government of Ekiti State have called on Governor Biodun Oyebanji to intervene in the Obaship tussle in the community.

    The National President of  Araromi Progressive Union, Mr. Olusegun Agboola, urged the governor to resolve the issues delaying installation of Prince Babatunde Babalola, who was picked by the oracle.

    The town has been in crisis over a successor to their late monarch, Oba Caleb Falomo, who joined his ancestors in October 2021.

    Addressing reporters in Araromi-Ekiti, Agboola said proper traditional processes of selecting monarch in the council was adopted and carried out in public glare, from which the Oba-elect emerged.

    He claimed that controversy surrounding the installation of the new traditional ruler was orchestrated by mischief makers, who were allergic to peace and progress of the community.

    He condemned the moves of the aggrieved parties to blackmail the Oba- elect and portray the community in bad light, urging the government to intervene and take a decisive step that would lay the matter to rest.

    A leader in the community, Chief Steven Afolayan, said the ancient community was tired of the controversy and litigations ensuing from the Obaship crisis, which had retarded growth and development.

    He added that the Oba-elect was the most popular among those that vied for the vacant stool and his emergence was received with delight and joy by the people of the ancient community.

    Oyebanji buys 30 vehicles to strengthen Amotekun corps

    Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State on Friday took delivery of 30 new Toyota Tacoma Pick up vans to strengthen operations of Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed “Amotekun Corps”.

     Oyebanji, represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Monisade Afuye, while taking the delivery of the vehicles in Ado Ekiti, promised to put security measures in full gear to tackle criminal elements terrorising the state.

     He said the fact that the vehicles were supplied by members of Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria, Ekiti chapter, further attested to how committed his administration was to comply with the Ekiti State Local Contents Law enacted to strategically shore up patronage for local contractors.

     Oyebanji promised that his government would continue to support local contractors and businessmen to thrive, saying: “this is not the first or second time that motor dealers in Ekiti have been patronised. Jobs that can be properly handled by local contractors won’t be contracted out to outsiders”.

     The Chairman of Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria, Ekiti State chapter, Alhaji Ibrahim Adeniyi commended the governor for patronising the local motor dealers.

     Adeniyi described Oyebanji as a promise keeper for complying with Local Content Bill he assented to upon assumption of office to ensure increased patronage for local businessmen.

     He promised to partner the government to make the relationship symbiotic by ensuring that every contract awarded to members is done in strict compliance with specification to sustain the spirit being demonstrated by the governor.

     The businessmen appealed to Governor Oyebanji to donate a parcel of land to AMDON, for the construction of modern Automat to boost motor business in Ekiti.

     “This is the first Governor that will be attending to AMDON needs and patronising us. Governor Oyebanji has given us the deserved  recognition. We are assuring him, all the vehicles we are going to supply will be of good qualities”, he said.

    He said the fact that the vehicles were supplied by members of Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria, Ekiti chapter, further attested to how committed his administration was to comply with the Ekiti State Local Contents Law enacted to strategically shore up patronage for local contractors.

    “Our local contractors and businessmen should, take this opportunity offered by the state government . Nevertheless, as much as we are ready to patronise you, the government won’t take shoddy or poorly executed jobs,” he added.

    We’ve paid N1.2bn gratuities to LG, pry school retirees, says Oyebanji

    Ekiti state governor, Biodun Oyebanji on Tuesday, March 26, said his administration has paid N1.2bn gratuity to retired local government workers and primary school teachers.

    The governor spoke in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital while disbursing 250m gratuities cheques to 114 retired local government workers and primary school teachers in the state.

    Oyebanji said he shared the pains of the retirees waiting for too long before being handed their gratuity, assuring that with the increase in the monthly payment of monthly gratuity from N50mn to N100m, many pensioners will soon be captured.

    He said: “It is important to place on record that we have paid N1.2billion as gratuities to 377 retired council workers and primary school teachers since the beginning of this administration. Our target is to get everyone covered; and with God on our side, we will not rest on our oars until it is achieved. Rest should, indeed sweet after labour.

    “As regards the March to September 2018 arrears of your pensions, we are closing in on settling them. We have so far cleared three out of seven months. I am assuring you that the remaining four will soon be cleared.”

    The governor urged the beneficiaries not to expend the gratuities on inanities that won’t have a positive impact on their lives, saying they should focus on those things that will add value to their welfare and well-being to compensate for the long period of waiting.

    The chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Ekiti state, Joel Akinola, commended Oyebanji for clearing the salary arrears of state civil servants and pensioners, exuding confidence that this will be extended to the local government and primary school teachers.

    Akinola, who urged those yet to be paid not to despair, appealed to retirees to embrace the various free health services designed for pensioners by the current administration, saying this is a way of elongating their life expectancy and putting their health in proper shape.

    “Our members have passed through the valley of the shadow of death. I have never seen any state where the governor released cheques to pensioners every month for gratuity payments. This gives us a lot of hope. We especially thank the governor for his concern about us”, he added.

    Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Modupe Akinyemi described the present administration as ‘God sent’ to retirees in the state.

    She added that the senior citizens had never had it so good because they are being placed on first-line charge by the present administration.

    Insecurity: Oyebanji demands synergy between forest guards, security agencies

    Ekiti state governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has directed the newly recruited forest guards to synergise with the security agencies to flush out kidnappers and other nefarious criminals that are using Ekiti forests as hideouts and inflicting terror on the citizens.

    Oyebanji said that his government had mapped out strategies in partnership with some stakeholders to increase the forest potential of Ekiti for improved economy, ecosystem, and atmospheric conditions that could bring about healthy living and prolonged life expectancy of the people.

    The governor, represented by his deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, spoke on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital during this year’s edition of International Day of Forests and passing out of the 50 newly recruited forestry officials.

    Oyebanji said that the newly employed officials, as part of efforts to address the ugly trend in deforestation and illegal activities of criminals in the forests included 22 foresters, 18 boundary men and 10 technicians.

    The governor said: “Our government has been working tirelessly to ensure that forest estate is free from kidnappers and other evil perpetrators like illegal tree fellers, who are destroying our economic trees.

    He said that his administration would superfluously equip the workforce of the Forestry Commission to be able to deliver on the mandate of helping to improve the Internally Generated Revenue of the state geometrically.

    The Executive Secretary of Ekiti State Forestry Commission, Sunday Adekunle, said that the government was currently nursing 60,000 seedlings of various species at Erunfun Nursery that would be sold to interested members of the public to boost plantation agriculture.

    Adekunle assured that the government would also partner with all relevant agencies to tackle forest desertification, pursue a robust forest regeneration policy and propel efficient monitoring of all forests to contribute to the atmospheric and economic development of the state.

    He enlisted the support of the government and Ekiti people towards forest development “because of its enormous benefits to the people, environment and planet. We can resolve to plant a tree that will make that forest today.

    “Apart from reducing carbon emissions and producing fresh air, plants have benefits such as beautification of the environment. I welcome you to be part of the revolution to regenerate and replenish our environment by planting a tree to improve health, food security, and access to healthier lifestyles.

    The Ekiti State Commissioner for Environment, Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, expressed the government’s readiness to invest huge resources to keep the forest reserves in good shape, adding that a total of two million tree seedlings would be planted in 2024 to shore up the state’s forest potential.

    Aluko stated that the government would contrive many innovations to improve afforestation and make Ekiti viable in the sector to return Ekiti to the old good days when forestry contributed to the growth of the economy.

    Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has begun the payment of compensation to owners of landed property acquired for the building of Okeyinmi Flyover in Ado-Ekiti.

    He said legitimate land and property owners that would be affected in the demolition for the construction of the flyover that stretched from Okeyinmi to Ajilosun junction would be compensated.

    Oyebanji restated the commitment of his administration to make Ado-Ekiti  metropolis epicentre of infrastructures that would buoy businesses, attract investors and make it befitting of its status as a capital city.

    Presenting cheques to the beneficiaries on Monday, the Governor, represented by his Deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, said that the government had spelt out required modalities that would remove bottlenecks and ensure speedy payment of compensation to the property owners.

    Oyebanji restated the commitment of his administration to make Ado metropolis epicentre of infrastructures that would buoy businesses, attract investors and make it befitting of its status as a capital city.

    The governor explained that the project would decongest the Ado-Ekiti metropolis of traffic snarl being envisaged within the business district area in the future and ease the means of doing business in the metropolis.

    He said: “One of the driving objectives of this administration is to make Ado-Ekiti among the comity of States’ Capitals in Nigeria a smarter city with well-built infrastructure that will improve the socio-economic development of the State.

    “Hence, the construction of the flyover is part of the commitment of my administration to provide a solid infrastructure to ease means of doing business in the State Capital.

    “The flyover, if completed will go a long way to decongest traffic and enhance effective traffic management and orderliness within Ado-Ekiti metropolis.”

    Oyebanji disclosed that his government, besides the flyover had embarked on the construction of other major roads like Omisanjana-Ajebamidele, Jimoh-Aliu, Nova, Ara-Ikole Road, Ikere-Ilawe Road, Igede-Ilawe Road, Ikere-Ise-Emure and Ilawe-Ado Roads, among others, to open up a vista of business and investment opportunities for the state.

    He added: “It is my desire that all these projects will be delivered within the stipulated time and not abandoned for any unknown reasons and at the same time complete all uncompleted projects of the past administrations in the state.

    “I want to assure you that the State Government will pay all the affected persons whose properties were acquired by the State Government for construction of the flyover as enumerated by the Bureau of Land Services.”

    Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has suspended government events and ceremonies slated for this week in honour of the late Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Paul Omotosho, who died on Tuesday night.

    A statement by the Special Adviser on Media to the governor, Yinka Oyebode, said the launch of Okeyinmi flyover in Ado-Ekiti scheduled for today has been postponed.

    He added that “the celebration of this year’s International Women’s Day, (being organised by the office of the Governor’s Wife and Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development), initially scheduled for today at Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, has been shifted to another date.

    “New dates for the postponed events will be communicated in due course.”

    The late APC chairman, who was born on April 4, 1964, died at a hospital in Ado-Ekiti after a brief illness.

    Oyebanji suspends public activities over APC chairman’s demise

    Ekiti state governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has suspended all government events and ceremonies slated for this week in honour of the late chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Paul Omotosho, who died on Tuesday.

    According to a statement by the special adviser on media to the governor, Yinka Oyebode, the flag-off ceremony for the Okeyinmi Flyover Bridge in Ado Ekiti, the state capital earlier scheduled for Friday has been postponed.
