  • Gunmen kill Oyo lawmaker

    The Chairman, Oyo State House of Assembly Committee on Information and Security, Mr. Gideon Aremu, was shot dead by gunmen on Friday.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the lawmaker was killed at about 9:00pm on Friday while driving into his house at Alakia area of Ibadan

    NAN gathered that the deceased’s wife was opening the gate for him when two men on motorcycles shot him several times.

    “The armed men waited several minutes afterwards to ensure he was dead and took away only his cell phone,’’ an eyewitness said.

    The Spokesman for the state police command, Mr. Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the lawmaker’s assassination.

    Ajisebutu said the state commissioner of police had directed police personnel to commence thorough investigation into the killing.

  • Oyo lawmaker, council boss die

    The lawmaker representing Afijio Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Akinkunmi Adelakun (aka Century) and the Chairman, Iwajowa Local Government, Tajudeen Salami, are dead.

    Adelakun, Chairman, Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, died early yesterday in a private hospital in Lagos; Salami died on Monday at a Catholic hospital in Ibadan, the state capital.

    The lawmaker was a major marketer in the Yoruba movie industry. His company’s name is Century Pictures.

    The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mrs. Monsurat Sunmonu and the State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Yekeen Popoola, have commiserated with the families.

    They prayed God to give the families the fortitude to bear the loss.
