    14 contestants qualify for 2023 Miss Nigeria International Pageant, says organiser

    The organiser of the Miss Nigeria International Beauty Pageant, Brendan Nsikak, has said 14 candidates have qualified for this year’s edition of the pageant.

    Nsikak, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Brendance and Crusade Limited, announced this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Lagos.

    He said the 14 lucky contestants were selected out of 125 candidates.

    “Not less than 125 candidates applied for the Miss Nigeria International contest and 35 ladies were selected through virtual elimination. The lucky ladies were put up for public voting.

    “The voting went on for a period of one month, of which eventually 14 of the lucky ladies will be going into the final stages of the main rigorous activities,” he said.

    Nsikak, who is also the organiser of Mr. Nigeria International, said the contest scheduled before the end of the year, was meant to touch lives, promote peace and encourage African tourism.

    “The 2023 second edition of the single Miss Nigeria International, which also is the 12th edition of the combined Mr. and Miss Nigeria International, is fashioned to promote culture, and intelligence,” he said.

    “We decided to separate the mixed pageantry, which had existed for 12 years, to give them more concentration and attention.

    “The first Miss Nigeria contest, held in Ekiti and supported by the state government was won by Madaka Favour, a graduate of Business Administration from Anambra State University,” he said.

    According to the pageant promoter,

    beauty is beyond the external looks but is in the brain and these are areas considered during the screening.

    He noted that the screening also considered the abilities of leadership, sportsmanship, facial beauty and especially, self-intelligence of the young ladies.

    Nsikak also said the 24-year-old outgoing queen, within her one-year reign, carried out a variety of heart-touching programmes.

    “The outgoing queen, Miss Madaka Favour, alongside two other qualified ladies in the 2022 edition, had enrolled to represent Nigeria in the world stage,” he said.

    Heritage Bank Plc has partnered with Folio Media Group, publishers of the Daily Times, to organise the 60th anniversary of Miss Nigeria and the 2017 edition of the beauty pageant.

    Miss Ehiguese Mildred Peace, representing Adamawa State, emerged   Miss Nigeria at the grand finale of the beauty pageant held at Eko Convention Centre in Lagos. Miss Rita Chinedu, representing Delta State and Miss Benjamin Anne Ufuomanefe, (Ondo State) were first and second runners-up.

    Miss Cross River, Ana Victoria Lawrence emerged as Miss Emerald Queen, after winning the task organised by Heritage Bank, which centred on assessing the contestants on their knowledge, complement, fluency, articulation, appearance based on ingenuity and creativity of the Nigerian contemporary hairstyles. Whilst, Miss Ifidon Sarah representing Edo State Miss Onyeabo Amarachi representing Abia State, emerged first and second runner ups, respectively.

    The award given to her, which was an artefact (African queen bronze head in a moulded box), speaks of African culture and symbolic of the Bank’s pride of its heritage.

    Miss Nigeria focuses on issues that affect Nigerian women; she is an ambassador of culture, of purpose, of the environment. The ambition of the new beauty queen is to provide medical and psychological help for women who are victims of rape as well as empower them.

    Speaking with journalists immediately after the crowning of the new pageant queen, Fela Ibidapo, Head of Corporate Communications of Heritage Bank said, “We are partnering with Folio Group to empower women”, adding that this is what the Daily Times used to be known for and we wants to help them to revive it.

    “Our involvement in this is not because of beauty per se, it’s primarily to empower ladies and women generally; to encourage them to always put in their best in whatever they do to make a living.”

    Ibidapo agreed that the impact of the initiative might not be so visible in the short-term period, but he was so optimistic that it would impact positively on their contributions to the nation-building process in the long run.

    Also speaking, chairman of Folio Media Group, Mr. Fidelis Anosike said the group would use the Miss Nigeria pageant to create a strong female platform, remarking that the group has signed a partnership deal with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) over the next five years to tackle the scourge of human trafficking.

    After series of contests, Miss Adaora Ndidigwe, recently emerged winner of the 2017 edition of the Nigerian Cultural Queen Pageant, beating 23 other contestants.

    As part of the competition, the contestants thrilled guests with joint choreography performance, and individual traditional dances to represent their states in its attires.

    The models also walked down the aisle in creative African outfits and diner outfits made of African fabrics.

    The event also featured live performances from various singers.

    Speaking at the event, centered on celebrating Nigerian cultural diversity, the Chief Executive Officer, Gold Point Productions, organisers of Pageant, Ben Okafor, said the concept is geared towards rebuilding the Nigerian culture

    According to him, culture is a way of life and it is going down. “This is a platform to catch, talk to the youths and bring back our cultural value. This is not a beauty pageant; it is aimed to bring back our rich cultural heritage to the youths.

    “Beyond the beauty, we are looking out for the Queen that will understand where she is coming from, knows her tradition, culture, their foods, dressing, greetings and language. We promote decency in our pageant and we want to see the tribe of our models showcased in the outfits they wear for the pageant.

    “Our culture can build the economy, promote tourism and develop the nation. Understanding each other’s culture would help to bring the unity and restore peace,” he said.

    Ndidigwe, who had been aspiring to be crowned a Queen in the last four years said, the position would enable her accomplish all the projects she had been working on prior to the pageant.

    “I have a project to introduce teaching of culture and girl child empowerment to school curriculum. This will ensure that future generations are protected. I have mapped out 15 schools to sort with and I will extend to other schools,” she said.

    ith the 11th edition of ‘Beauty of Africa’ international pageant underway, organisers have revealed that this year’s edition will take place in Lagos at the MUSON Centre, Onikan.

    Speaking on the progress made so far, Daniel Opuene, president, ‘Beauty of Africa’ international pageant said: “It is with joy that we look forward to the 11th edition of beauty of Africa pageant whicvh hods on Saturday, October 7 at Muson Centre, Onikan Lagos.

    “It promises to be an exciting evening. In 11 years of its existence, it has produced celebrities like Nollywood actress, Christabel Amaka Goddy, world renowned model, Sandra Ogbebor, Marian Makbere and Victoria Mafo, who made it to the top 10 at Miss Universe last year. Good content, security, entertainment and a memorable time with top society personalities.”

    Speaking further, Opuene revealed that the ‘Beauty of Africa International Pageant’ has been given the license to Crown the Miss Tourism International Nigeria.

    Commenting on what the last 11 years have been like, he said that the pageant, which was formerly known as Face of Daniels International (FODI), was held for seven years in Port Harcourt, and once in Abuja (2015).

    “Over the years the pageant has discovered and promoted winners to represent Nigeria in World Beauty contests such as Miss Tourism International World finals, Miss Globe World finals, and Miss Tourism Metropolitan World finals, Miss Tourism Queen of the Year World Finals and Miss Supranational World finals, which are currently enjoying corporate endorsements within and outside the continent,” he said.

    He also stated that the winner goes home with a car, wardrobe allowance and a trip to Miss Tourism International World finals.

    On hand to entertain guests will be top comedians, AY, Gordons and Helen Paul while music will be supplied by Sound Sultan and Monibanks.

  • Entries open for Queen of the Neighborhood Pageant

    All is set to hold the maiden edition of  Queen of the Neighborhood  pageant as organisers have called on interested candidates to pick up their forms.

    According to the organisers,  Queen of the Neighborhood  pageant is about how Nigerians can live together in peace.

    “We are not saying the change would come automatically but we believe that we have to take a step which is to at least start,” said Prince Bobby Akasa, Director Golden Modeling Agency.

    According to Akasa, the winner of the pageantry stands a chance of winning a brand new car, quarter of a million naira and a trip to Dubai.

    “The pageant is not free as participants have to pay a registration fee. The winner will be going home with a car, quarter of a million and a trip to Dubai, so we want serious minded and determined people to come and take part because this is a Registered organization,” he added.

    Akasa however said that the Queen of the neighborhood pageant accepts both Christians and Muslims and also does not require nudity or bikini photo shoots.

    “I have met a number of Muslim sisters who wants to be a model but say they can’t open their hair. Some would say they can’t expose their body but this pageantry is not about nudity as your religious belief will not be affected.

    “This is a new concept but I believe it is a step in the right direction if we can nurture it because we need support from government, we need other agencies like the ministry of environment and also corporate sponsorship so that we can be able to reach out to every community in Lagos State.”

    Former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria Munachi Abii will host a workshop to train young ladies on the art of being a beauty queen today.

    The beauty queen, who has been talking about the free show, posted the essential qualities of being a queen on her Instagram account on Thursday.

    ”Poise and charisma,” she writes. She had earlier disclosed that the theme of the workshop is ‘Preparation’ and directed interested participants to contact the organisers for more information.

    “An essential part of being queen, a true beauty queen, have you got that? Attend #TheBeautyPageantWorkshop and improve yours.”

    Already, several speakers have been lined up to speak on topics such as Public Leadership, Photography/Style, Healthy Eating and Fitness and Social Media Brand Positioning.

  • ‘FACE OF CANDYCITY’ CROWNED PAGEANT OF THE YEAR

    FACE of CandyCity Nigeria has been announced the winner of Pageant of the Year at the Nigeria Fashion and Style Awards 2016 which took place recently at the Vineyard events centre, Port Harcourt.

    Receiving the award, the current Face of Candycity, Nneke Somto thanked the organizers of the event seeing for the award well deserved and promised to keep the flag flying.

    Hosted by Melvin Oduah, NFSA is held annually to recognise, honor and promote excellence in the fashion industry and uniting Africa.

    The organizers of the awards said this category is distinguished pageants that have differentiated their brands, “these nominees have stood a test of time in the pageant industry, and this pageant is the choice of most prospective queens in 2016.”

    Face of Candycity started three years ago and has since crowned three queens including Joyce Woke, Sassy Soma and Nneke Somto.

  • Queen Collete to represent Nigeria at pageant

    Nigeria’s Beauty and Tourism ambassador, Queen Collete Nwadike is among the more than 50 beauty queens around the world who will be contesting for the Exquisite Face of the Universe grand finale, taking in Sao Tome & Principe this season.

    The week-long event which began last Sunday continues till December 5, when the winner will be known.

    Promoters of the Nigerian rep say Nwadike, in preparation for the contest, has gone the extra mile to ensure to work work on her physical appearance, mind, character and more, in order to bring pride and glory to Nigeria.

    The former beauty queen disclosed that Collete is being coached in etiquette, elocution, catwalk, poise, slating and many more.

    “She works out at the gym practically everyday. We’ve left no stone unturned in our bid to make her stand out in the upcoming competition. I believe history is about to be made again. It’s high time Nigeria brought home the crown,” She expressed.

    Nwadike, who is an English graduate, is currently a Special Assistant to the Anambra State Governor. She has worked hard to make her mark in the world of beauty and modeling all the while bringing succour and meaning to the lives of the less privileged around the country via her foundation which centers on welfare and empowerment.

    EERIK Entertainment Home, the organiser of Face of the World Nigeria and Face of Edo beauty pageant, has concluded plans to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the beauty contest in a glamorous way. The yearly event which always attracts A-List celebrities, corporate bodies, government agencies and entrepreneurs to celebrate beauty, brains, womanhood and styling tourism will leave up to its billing going by information made available during the screening of the contestants at a press conference in Benin.

    The president of Face of the World Nigeria, Prince Eerik Odigie, also used the opportunity to unveil Nigerian top acts that will headline this year’s edition of the beauty pageant.   • THE MISS NIGERIA BEAUTY PAGEANT RETURNS

    THE Miss Nigeria beauty pageant, one of the country’s oldest pageants, has returned with its 39th Edition. The event will take place today at The Oriental Hotel, Lagos.

    Organisers revealed that this year’s Miss Nigeria pageant received over 1800 applications from girls who entered the competition from all over the country, vying to hold the title of Miss Nigeria.  Having gone through a rigorous selection process, 36 contestants were then chosen as finalists.

    With the theme, Metamorphosis, the pageant saw the finalists move to Lagos where they were filmed for a week as they go to boot camp to engage in activities from entrepreneurial training, mentoring from business leaders and female leaders, as well as take time to prepare for the contest by learning choreography and being treated to health and beauty treatments in time for the grand finale. The week’s activities will be broadcast on television and segments shown during the pageant at Oriental Hotel.

    The Miss Nigeria platform recently partnered with Bank of Industry to provide skills training for the contestants in the week leading up to the final of the contest. The winner will be supported by BOI’s various SME initiatives, including the Fashion Fund, NollyFund and Dangote Fund,  given access to incubation and development finance to be able to start up a small business of her choice.

    A legacy of Nigeria’s oldest newspaper, Daily Times of Nigeria, The Miss Nigeria Beauty Pageant was founded in 1957. Previous notable winners include Grace Oyelude 1957, Yemi Idowu 62, Helen Prest 79, Binta Sukai 90, Vien Tetsola 2000, Sylvia Edem 2002 , Ene Lawani 2004 to the current title holder Ezinne Akudo Anyaoha 2013. These women represent a legacy of iconic women, that are proudly Nigerian.
