    Countdown to 38th Miss Nigeria Beauty Pageant, Charity Ball

    Created in 1957, the Miss Nigeria Beauty Pageant is Nigeria’s foremost pageant and discovering platform for young ladies. Notable among them are beauty queens such as Grace Oyelude, Julie Coker, Helen Prest-Ajayi, Binta Sukai, Vien Tetsola, Sylva Edem, Ene Lawani and Damilola Agbajor to name a few.

    The annual Miss Nigeria Pageant, the 38th in the series, will take place on July 6 at the impressive Intercontinental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. This year’s pageant has become a strong symbol of African culture and tradition and is brought to you by the African Times Network.

    This year’s theme, ‘Every Nation Needs A Queen’, is centred on unity across the 36 states in Nigeria to promote beauty in diversity. The event promises to be more engaging and fulfilling in hope that it will further unite Nigerians across its many cultural divides.

    Prior to the main event, the 36 contestants will be entered in for a reality TV show titled ‘The Making of a Queen’. The show will be filmed in Lagos and other neighboring cities and will run for a period of two weeks. During the show, the contestants would be given tasks and have interactive sessions with their fellow contestants. They would then be judged based on their elegance, poise, talent, intelligence and beauty. After a rigorous and nail-biting process, they would be narrowed down to 21 finalists who will then move on to the grand finale where they will compete for the crown, and a winner will emerge.

    The event would be a platform to support less privileged kids. Funds will be raised towards the cause – Education: A salvation for kids.

     

     

     

  • Face of Peace pageant 2013 begins

    AFTER the huge success that heralded the maiden edition of the beauty pageant, Face of Peace (FOPA), the organisers, Blumoon Imaginationz has announced the commencement of the 2013 edition of the event.

    The grand finale of the maiden edition of the pageant took place at Oriental Hotel, Lagos last year with Uti Uwachukwu and Matse of Nigerian Info as hosts.

    Zimuzo Benson, a Pschycology graduate from University of Nigeria, Nsukka emerged the winner; pocketing $10,000 and a car.

    Chioma Precious, an undergraduate from Nnamidi Azikwe University emerged the first runner-up. She got $5,000, a trip to Ghana, and 42 inches plasma TV while Amuche Arjuh from Nnamdi Azikwe University emerged the second runner up.

    Prizes have also been varied. The winner will now win $15,000 as against $10,000. She will also get a movie contract, trip abroad and wardrobe overhaul. First runner up will walk away with $5,000, 42 inches Plasma TV, A movie contract, a year beauty routine and trip to Ghana. The second runner up will get 27 inches Plasma TV, movie contract, a year beauty routine, and trip to Obudu cattle.

  • Fresher wins Miss Coal City pageant

    A 100-Level Accountancy student of Enugu State University of Technology (ESUTECH), Miss Cynthia Oduah, has won the 2012 edition of Miss Coal City beauty pageant. Cynthia beat 14 other contestants, who came from 24 universities across Nigeria.

    She received the star prize of a 2011 Nissan Primera. The prize was presented in Enugu last Saturday at Villa Toskana Hotels.

    An elated Cynthia told CAMPUSLIFE that the event was her first participation in a beauty contest, adding that she did not know would win the pageant despite the experience of other contestants. She encouraged youth to hone their talents, saying “there is a princess in every African woman.”

    She said: “Although, I had wanted to be a model from my childhood days I did not want to participate in the Miss Coal City pageant. However, my sister, who was sick when the audition began, encouraged me to participate.”

    Cynthia pledged to make good use of her office with the assistance of the Enugu State government to establish an agency that will encourage social entrepreneurship among the youth. “I will try toNigerian university system; I will promote modesty and hard work that will make students to have confidence in their ability,” Oduah said.

    Presenting a cash prize of N100,000 to the first runner-up, Miss Imomon Augustine, the Senior Special Adviser to the Enugu State Governor on Media and Communications, Mr Afam Okereke, called on private firms to invest in show business to promote African culture and tourism, which he said would result to direct foreign investment.

    Afam reiterated the efforts of the government to make Enugu State the destination for culture and tourism by developing, harnessing and promoting the nine tourist sites in the state through corporate partnership.

    The Chief Executive Officer of Miss Coal City Limited, Darlington Aijero, said the pageant was a platform that promoted the heritage of the state as well as entrepreneurship among undergraduates.

  • 36 vie for Ambassador of Peace pageant

    No fewer than 37 people have qualified to contest the 2012 Miss Ambassador for Peace pageant, the organiser of the event, Mr. Kingsley Amafibe, has said.

    Amafibe told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday that the contestants scaled through the screening.

    NAN recalls that 50 people had expressed interest to contest in the event scheduled for September 29 at Sheraton Hotel, Abuja.

    According to him, the event is targeted at promoting peace in the country.

    Amafibe added that the pageant, which would feature concerts and campaigns, would enlighten youths on the need to stay away from violent activities.

    “It will reflect the happenings in the society with a view to reorienting the youths, particularly at the grassroots.

    “It will further showcase the importance of cementing the broken pieces of peace in the country,’’ Amafibe said.

    He explained that the judgment of the pageant would focus more on intelligence, exposure and boldness by the contestants.

     

  • Groups present Miss Institute pageant

    In their efforts to encourage good social vaues in the nation’s institutions, the DM9 Deluxe Magazine,Smooth Guy Entertain Charlian Entertainment will be staging a Miss Institute Pageant on September 16.

    According to the coordinator of the pprogramme, pIyssah Iybrahymm (aka Deluxwizzy), the pageant is organised to make Nigerian students have focus.

    “We are going into this pageant to give the Nigeria institution a focus; a pageant that will tell Nigerian girls what they stand for in the society,” he said.
    He said the pageant will be taking to different institutions in the country with the aim of reducing social vices ranging from cultism and touting among others.

    “We are taking this project into the institutions one after the other; the winner of the pageant is going to take campaign into the Nigeria institutions and our campaign is to reduce social vices,” he said.

    Stating further, Iybrahymm said “Miss Institute Nigeria pageant is to project modesty; to bring out colour to values, they are not putting on bikinis; the kind of dressing that we are projecting for the grand finale is going to tell people outside there that this pageant stands for uniqueness. And aside that we want people to see something good in being a model; it is not until you dressed half naked or until you showcase your sensitive parts that you are a model; you can be a model in the society in a more good way without being naked”.

    The Coordinator condemns the act of going almost naked by Nigerian girls. “If you are going naked what Godliness is in that, what impact will your nakedness have on the society,”he asked.

    “It is going to be a yearly programme; We call on the government and corporate organisations to support our course of bringing modesty back to our institutions in Nigeria”, the coordinator said
