Govern with fear of God, Adeboye, Olaiya urge Nigerian leaders

General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye and his Living Faith Foundation (LFF) counterpart, Reverend Joseph Adeolu Olaiya, Monday urged the Nigerian leaders to lead with fear of God.

They were of the view that any leader that is ready to trail the path of God will not only lead successfully, but will imbue in followers, especially the younger generation, the courage to continue the good job wherever they stop.

Pastor Adeboye, who was in Kaduna on one day visit to Rev’d Olaiya and members or his ministry, had earlier took his time to pray God to instill His divine wisdom, knowledge and understanding in the mind of Nigerian leaders in their varying capacities.

In an interview shortly after the prayer, the host, Rev’d Olaiya, gave instance that all Kings that have ever ruled successfully, were those who rule with fear of God, hence the need for people in leadership to learn from good history.

According to him, “what I will just advice our leaders is to work in the fear of God. Everyone knows what it is to fear God and good to understand that God is almighty. No matter how strong you think you are as a leader, God is stronger and powerful than you are and that is why if you want to succeed as a leader, fear God in all you do.”

He further warned against oppressing the poor, “as leader, don’t oppress the downtrodden and the weak because you will be judged by him. His fear will restrain you so rule in the fear of God. The kings that rule successfully are the kings that rule in the fear of God.

“Don’t take another man’s property because you are in position of authority.

“Those of us who follow leadership should not follow them blindly. Let obey the authority. Let honour them except when they want to lead us to wrong path. For example when the US wanted us to sign a law approving homosexuality which is against the will of God, we were able to stood our ground because we have our conscience.

“So, if a leader is walking in the right path, follow him. Sometimes as followers, we push our leaders to do something they don’t want to do. As a leader for example, I have seen pressure from followers. Sometimes, I just have to deny myself. You may not give me what I need, but I have to follow my conscience,” he stressed.

  • Adeboye to Nigerians: Demand accountability

The general overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has challenged Nigerians to hold elected public officials to accountability, transparency, probity and good governance.

He said the era of voting and leaving elected officials to run the show without accountability was over.

Adeboye spoke last Sunday at the special monthly prayer and thanksgiving service of the RCCG, Throne of Grace, National Headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

According to him, many office holders are looting public treasury and getting away with it because Nigerians are indifferent and have refused to ask pertinent questions that will move the country forward.

Adeboye, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Personnel and Administration, Pastor Johnson Odesola, noted that it is high time Nigerians, particularly youths, engaged elective representatives at federal, state and local government level on issues such as infrastructural development, power supply, health care, education, food supply and other national issues.

He said: “We need to begin to ask our leaders what they want to deliver and what they have delivered in time past that should earn them our votes,” he said.

Adeboye argued that demands for accountability become imperative because no corrupt leader has ever been jailed rather they are getting chieftaincy titles and pardon for corrupt practices.

He added that whatever is acquired illegally will fly like wings, urging elected officials to desist from looting.

  • How youth can succeed, by Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church Of God, (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has advised youth to be visionary, diligent, hard working and fear God to succeed in life.

He spoke last Sunday at the special thanksgiving and prayer service organised for students by the RCCG, National Headquarters, Throne of Grace, Ebute-Metta Lagos.

The service with the theme I will Excel brought together thousands of youth drawn from across the country.

Adeboye said there are immense opportunities and possibilities for young people who will dare to dream big and work hard towards actualising their dreams with godly principles.

He noted there are many youth shortchanging themselves by trading away their God- given talents and opportunities because they lack foresight, vision and goals for themselves.

He cited Joseph who started early in life with a dream and goal to excel and became a savior through dint of hardwork and focus.

According to Adeboye: “The life of Joseph is a lesson for every one of us as he took a decision that no matter the condition, he would work hard and would not sin against God as he walked up to the top of the ladder in life.”

He bemoaned laziness, idleness, lethargy, and short cut syndrome that characterize contemporary youth, stating “we would continue to sit at the back side of life when we undermine the place of hard work, honesty, and the fear of God in all that we do.”

He added: “I have decided that I am ready to offend the whole world as long as I will not offend God. It is never fun to offend God. If you want to follow the crowd, you will end up in perdition with the crown.”
