  • Prayers has sustained Nigeria, says Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has said that the prayers of Christians and other religious groups in the country have gone a long way in reducing the security challenges in the country.

“You will agree with me that whenever you tune your television especially the international news centres like CNN, Aljazeera or Sky news you always see breaking news. All the breaking news are always negative, you hardly see any positive breaking news all over the world.”

“In Nigeria too, we have been having our own fair share of these negative news brought about by the Boko Haram killing people at will. But we believe that God knows it all.”

“Without your prayers, probably it would have been worse than this. God has always been faithful to Nigerians. God will contnue to hear our prayers so that our country will get out of these challenges of terror and other related crimes” he added.

On the 100 day fasting members of the Redeemed church is undergoing, he said: “even to keep faith with the orthodox 40 days fasting during the lent period which I also participate, it is not easy to keep faith with therefore, to fast for 100 day is not an easy task.”

“You are fasting not because of your personal interest, but for the country. I have to thank the General Overseer and all of you who have been in this fasting. God will hear our prayers” he said.

In his message titled “God will remember you”, Pastor Adegboye said “whether the devil likes or not, Nigeria will be great again”.

According to him, the Church will continue to seek the face of God for the country and its leadership.

“I can assure you that we are praying and we will continue to pray because we have no other place to go to and God has a reason,” he said.

  • Work hard for excellence – Adeboye

Work hard for excellence – Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has charged Nigerians to exhibit the act of hard work, fear of God, integrity and attitude of praises as that remain panaceas for greatness in life and ministry.

Adeboye made this known at a special prayer and thanksgiving service for the members of educational sector organised recently by the Redeemed Christian Church of God, national headquarters, Throne of Grace, Ebutte-Metta, Lagos.

The programme tagged: Excellence brought together hundreds of academics, vice chancellors, lecturers, students across the country, which featured prayers, thanksgiving service and prophetic ministration.

According to him, God is willing to take an individual from the level of mediocrity to the height of excellence when we exhibit the acts of hard work, selfless sacrifice, generous giving and a heart of gratitude to him.

Adeboye noted that God never made anyone a mediocre as his original plan for mankind in creation has nothing to do with mediocrity.

He cited in the scriptures that Solomon, David, Abraham offered the sacrifice of praises, gratitude, obedience and faithfulness to God’s word and thereafter were blessed by God and attained excellence in life.

Adeboye said, “Excellence is not necessarily the best because one can be the best among failures but excellence is 100% which is so good that cannot be better.”

He also pointed out the life of Elisha who offered the service of loyalty and selflessness to prophet Elijah in the midst of uncertainties. He said, “he ended up becoming the master of the sons of the prophet.”

Adeboye recalled a poem written in 1959 which stated that greatness is not attained by men through sudden flight but while their companions slept, they were climbing the height and made frantic effort to stay in the height.

He added that God has blessed Nigeria and it will be great again if the people will surrender their lives and times to him, so that he can take them to a greater level of greatness in life.

  • Adeboye to business owners: Draw close to God

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has advised business executives to draw closer to God for lasting success without sorrow.

He spoke last Sunday during a special service for business executives and owners.

Adeboye said they will experience unusual breakthrough in life and business by dedicating their lives to God and following His pathways.

X-raying the committed life of King Solomon despite his adulterous background, Adeboye noted that he showed appreciation to God for the past and expressed gratefulness for the present.

He told the business owners: “Thank God for the present so that your future can be glorious.”

The cleric said the wisdom of God stood Solomon out, asking the business owners to also seek for divine direction that will make them outstanding.

Adeboye challenged the congregation not to relent in seeking for wisdom that will bring about promotion in their chosen careers.

He pointed out that all Solomon requested for was not for selfish interest but “to serve God”.

This, he said, should be the ultimate of all Christians in business.

Speaking to reporters after the service, the chairman/chief executive officer, Shebah Oil Services Ltd, Joseph Adenuga, said only business men with the fear of God can deliver quality services and resist the temptation of cutting corners.

According to him: “When we get it right in the spiritual angle, we can do better in the physical things.

“The services we render must be done in a friendly manner such that they add value for the exchange.

“Quality service should be rendered to those who demand for it, with the fear of God as guideline because whatever we do unto fellow human beings is directly unto God.”

He added: “If we are going to succeed in anything in the world, we must have an ally. And the greatest ally is God and doing things in God’s way will definitely bring an impact.”

Adeboye, who spoke through the Assistant Pastor- in- Charge, Social Responsibility of RCCG Throne of Grace, Pastor Goke Aniiyeloye, said: “Affordable health care should be the right of every citizen which must be pursued rigorously in the interest of less- privileged women and children.”

Although, he noted that the Lagos State government has been working hard to build health care centres, he said “the government can do more by doubling up the health centres which would help in reducing the long queue in the over -bloated centres inimical to the wellbeing of pregnant women.”

Adeboye said: “Governor Fashola can do more. Though, he has established several health centres, they can be doubled to cater for more women who conceive in many areas in Lagos.”

He also charged the state government to grant more individuals who have the capacity and know-how to establish maternity centres to complement efforts in providing accessible health care centres.

The cleric appealed to the Church to support the government in creating maternity centres qualitative and affordable for pregnant women and children within their locality.

Adeboye charged members of the Nigeria Police to hold tight to Jesus as they go about their statutory responsibility of protecting lives and properties.”He said: God is the only one who can protect the guards and unless God protects one there is no sure protection for anyone. He alone is the sure protector.” He assured them of his prayers to God to continue to guard and protect them as they face the daunting task of fighting crime and terrorist attacks presently ravaging the world over. • Adeboye tasks lawyers on innocent citizens

The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has appealed to lawyers to pool their resources together to help defend the defenseless citizens in our society.

Adeboye said this at the Special Thanksgiving and Prayer for members of the bar and bench profession, held last Sunday at the church headquarters, Ebutte-Metta, Lagos.

The programme titled:  And I shall be your Solicitor, brought together over 100 lawyers, magistrates, judges from Lagos and Ogun States with song rendition, prayer and prophetic ministration and thanksgiving service.

According to him, there are increasing numbers of inmates in our prisons in Nigeria who have been detained without cause and do not have anyone to defend them.

Adeboye said this in reaction to the release of thousands of inmates in prison in Lagos by the Lagos State Attorney General. “My joy knew no bounds when I heard of the release of inmates detained illegally in Lagos.”

He said that “we have ministry to prisoners and we know that there are large number of people who are still being detained illegally while other people we know that should be in prison have successfully perverted justice because of their affluence and money.”

“Prison does not change people as some went to prison and come out worse The only fellow who can change life is Jesus who has come to save mankind from sin, wickedness and all from of criminality.”

He went further to charge lawyers and judges to toe the path of justice and fairness as they discharge their duty or adjudicating justice in our society.

He attributed the near death of justice in our society to the increasing spate of unchecked corrupt practices among lawyers and judges alike which displeases the lord.

Adeboye said God is the greatest advocate who delights in righteousness, forgiveness, sobriety, justice, fairness and eschews all forms of wickedness.

He opined that the fight against corrupt practices in the public and private sectors in Nigeria can be effectively won when we have judges who practice their profession with the fear of God.

In his words, a lawyer and civil right activist, Wale Ogunade, appealed to lawyers to avoid immediate monetary gain in the discharge of their duty.
