  • Pogba sets Champions league condition for Man U

Paul Pogba though currently enjoying himself at Manchester United but will consider facing the exit door if the team fails to qualify for Champions league next season it has been revealed.

Reports in Italy indicate that the France international is not prepaid to settle for Europa as an alternative.

Thanks to their form under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United have been thrust back into contention for a top-four finish when it looked very unlikely under Jose Mourinho earlier in the campaign.

Pogba, who struggled earlier on in the season, has also been rejuvenated under the Norwegian with seven assists and nine goals in fourteen matches.

However, Tuttosport claims that whether United are playing Champions League football or not next term will be ‘decisive’ in Pogba determining his future at Old Trafford.

The report adds that the France international ‘will hardly accept another season in the Europa League’ like he did when they won the competition with Mourinho in 2016-17.

Pogba became the world’s most expensive player when Mourinho re-signed him from Juventus for £89.3million in summer 2016.

The latest report could boost Juventus, with recent claims that they could be interested in bringing Pogba back to Turin.

Meanwhile, a report just over a week ago said that Juve are considering replacing Max Allegri with World Cup winning France boss Didier Deschamps when he leaves.

Pogba would apparently be far more likely to accept a return to Turin with his national team boss at the helm.

  • Man Utd stars dazzle at UNICEF gala dinner on 20th anniversary

Manchester United has had a lot to cheer recently on the pitch and that sentiment was matched off it on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils held their annual event United for UNICEF Gala Dinner – which was made even more of a special occasion as it marked their 20th anniversary working together.

Key personnel Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Romelu Lukaku were all present and looked suave as they walked on to the red carpet, and the night ended in success as it was revealed a huge £225,000 had been raised for the charity.

The event, which is being held at Old Trafford, is to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the club’s partnership with UNICEF – the longest running one of its kind between a football club and a global children’s organisation.

During this time, the partnership has raised over £4million, helping to change the lives of millions of children worldwide.

The club offered their supporters a rare opportunity to rub shoulders with their footballing heroes by putting tickets up for sale last month.

The special gala event also includes a live auction with once-in-a-lifetime prizes to be won as well as a table raffle to win signed United memorabilia and live entertainment provided by Brits’ Critics Choice Award nominee Lewis Capaldi.

  • Pogba praises Solskjaer for revitalising Man Utd’s attack

Manchester United have rediscovered their attacking verve under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, midfielder Paul Pogba has said.

Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho in December and has made the most successful start by any manager in the club’s history, winning his first six games in all competitions.

The 45-year-old has abandoned the stifling defensive approach favoured by Mourinho and tried to reinstate the free-flowing football that was the hallmark of Manchester United’s most successful sides under Alex Ferguson.

“The way we are playing we have more possession of the ball. We know more where to attack and where to go.

“We have more of a pattern of play and more of a structure. That makes it easier for everyone,” Pogba told Sky Sports ahead of Saturday’s English Premier League home game against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Pogba, who was often asked to fill an unfamiliar defensive midfield role under Mourinho, has been granted greater attacking freedom by the Portuguese’s successor.

The France midfielder has responded with four goals and four assists in his last five matches.

Pogba also credited the form of goalkeeper David de Gea for their recent run.

“He’s obviously one of the best, if not the best, goalkeepers in the world and when we need him he is there,” Pogba said.

Manchester United Football Club is a professional football club based at Old Trafford in Greater Manchester, England and competes in the Premier League, the top flight of English football.

  • Joshua on social circuit with Man United stars in Dubai

Anthony Joshua has continued to enjoy his busy social schedule with Manchester United stars in Dubai as the heavyweight boxer posed for a photo with Paul Pogba on Wednesday evening.

The 29-year-old has looked to escape the chill of England during the winter months and is building up to his next bout out in a far warmer and tougher climate.

United have also departed England for a few days as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer whisked his team away during a week off for some warm weather training ahead of the game with Tottenham.

After watching the Red Devils train and playing Teqball with Ashley Young this week, Joshua caught up with Pogba and posed with the in-form midfielder alongside the caption: ‘A Perfect Year 2 Boss Up’.

Wearing a black Hugo Boss tracksuit, Joshua looked casual as he and a member of his entourage took a picture with Pogba, who looked smart in ripped jeans, white trainers and black shirt.

Joshua’s team was given special access to watch Manchester United’s stars train in Dubai on Monday afternoon.

Solskjaer’s team were put through their paces in the first session in Dubai after making the trip on Saturday evening following their 2-0 FA Cup win over Reading.

  • Pogba’s pregnant girlfriend shows off baby bump before Man Utd win

December looked like it was going to be a horror month for Paul Pogba after being dropped from the Manchester United team by Jose Mourinho.

But since Mourinho was sacked, the midfielder has been recalled to the side under interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and has been integral in their three-game winning run since.

It leaves the midfielder with much to look forward to on and off the pitch, with girlfriend Maria Salaues also expecting a child in the New Year.

She arrived at Old Trafford on Sunday ahead of United’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth wearing a red jumper by the fashion label Supreme, which sells for around £200.

Salaues has been publicly dating Pogba since 2017 when they were first spotted in LA while the France star was competing in the International Champions Cup with United.

Born in Bolivia in 1996, she had been residing in the United States where she worked as a model following an earlier career pursuit as a real estate agent. This came after she attended the University of Bolivia to study business administration.

Pogba seemed inspired by his heavily pregnant girlfriend in attendance, producing a man of the match performance by scoring twice in a 4-1 victory.

Solskjaer’s arrival has brought about a transformation — one that always seemed possible once United’s £89million record signing was happy again.

United’s next game comes on Wednesday when they travel to Newcastle United chasing a fourth consecutive victory.

United will head into the game sixth in the table as they look to haul themselves back into the race for the top four, which provides a gateway to next season’s Champions League.

  • Pogba gets another double as Solskjaer extends perfect start

The re-born Paul Pogba scored twice on Sunday as Manchester United beat Bournemouth 4-1 to make it three wins in a row for caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

It was the second time the France midfielder was scoring since Jose Mourinho’s departure from the club who are now in sixth place.

After emphatic wins over Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town, the manner of the victory was further evidence of the return of attacking football under Solskjaer.

It also showed the liberated way in which the players are performing, and none seem to be relishing their football again more than 2018 FIFA World Cup winner Pogba.

He has netted four of the 12 goals which rejuvenated Manchester United have scored in the three matches since their former Norwegian striker took the reins.

It took Pogba just five minutes to strike, sliding the ball in at the back post after a wonderful piece of dribbling and a precise low cross from Marcus Rashford.

The Frenchman, who scored twice against Huddersfield Town on Boxing Day, then burst into the box to head home an Ander Herrera cross from deep to make it 2-0.

“It is different, we still won games with the old manager. But it is just a different style of playing,” said Pogba.

“We are more offensive and we are creating more chances and that is how we want to play. I always want to do more, but I want to play for the team and play simple.”

Not only was Pogba appearing in more advanced positions but he looked to be back to his confident self on the ball, strutting while in possession and constantly looking to create.

There was real class about Manchester United’s third, in the 45th minute.

Anthony Martial delivered a low cross with the outside of his boot and Rashford guided it home off the outside of his outstretched foot.

Bournemouth pulled a goal back in stoppage-time at the end of the first half though.

That was when David Brooks skipped around the Manchester United defence and placed a cross on the head of Nathan Ake who nodded past David De Gea.

Romelu Lukaku made it 4-1, two minutes after coming on as a 70th minute substitute, latching on to a Pogba through ball and hooking the ball past the advancing Asmir Begovic.

Pogba was inches away from a hat-trick with a low drive from 20 yards out that struck the post.

The relaxed and positive mood was slightly undone by a wild lunge in the 79th minute from Manchester United defender Eric Bailly on Ryan Fraser.

The Ivorian was rightly shown a straight red card.

“In the first half we attacked the game with a high tempo and high energy, but the response to their goal was great. We managed the game much better than against Huddersfield,” said Solskjaer.

“We are still looking for a clean sheet — you can’t switch off for one second in this league.

“It’s a very very good performance, the crowd was enjoying it. But now Newcastle United, the next one, is a different kind of test.”(Reuters/NAN)

  • Pogba shares video of meeting fan in hospital who wears lucky jersey

Paul Pogba has been sharing the festive joy this Christmas after an emotional meeting with a young fan at The Christie’s Palatine Treatment Centre in Manchester.

The French midfielder shared a clip to his social media, admitting that he feels thankful to have been able to spend some time with the supporter. In the clip, Pogba and his team-mates Diogo Dalot, Fred and Andreas Pereira are wearing Christmas hats as they initially chat to Matty’s mum in the hospital room. She explains: ‘We’ve had a few bad results this year, and the only time he gets his good results, he has to wear this shirt. The only time he couldn’t find that shirt, he got a bad result. This is his lucky shirt.’

Pogba is clearly delighted to hear the news, and writing on his Instagram account two days later, he said: ‘This video makes me so emotional. ‘Seeing a young man get better results and feeling better just by wearing a pogba @manchesterunited shirt… you thanks us for giving you 5min of our time but WE THANK YOU for giving us the strength to push ourselves to the limit.

  • PAUL POGBA: Mum behind my flamboyant fashion sense

Paul Pogba has heaped praise on his mum, crediting her as the inspiration for his bold fashion sense.

The Manchester United midfielder is well-known for his flamboyant style, and when asked for the reason behind it, Pogba did not need time to think about his answer.

“My mum, she knows fashion,” he said in an interview with YouTubers Poet and Vuj from COPA90. “She’s the one who’s been putting colours and stuff, so I saw it from my mum and it’s in the family, you know. Fashion from day one.”

The Manchester United man was representing his club during the interview, wearing another bold item of clothing – a denim jacket with his team’s crest embroidered on the pocket and the back.

He was also asked about his music taste, something his fans will be well aware of from following him on social media.

When questioned about his favourite acts at the moment, the Frenchman said: “Lil Uzi Vert’s coming up, he’s coming back. Drake. Lil Uzi Vert’s my guy, I really like it.

“Ashley Young has been playing the French song [Vegedream – Ramenez La Coupe a La Maison], he loves it.”

Pogba still appears to be on a high after winning the World Cup with France, and he insists that team spirit is behind the country’s success in Russia.

“At the end of the day, when you’re good with

your people next to you, you’re going to die for them,” he continued.

“I know, nobody could touch Griezmann, nobody could touch Mbappe, and nobody could touch Mendy. Mendy plays for City, I play for United, but for the national team we’re family.”

Meanwhile, after the midweek high of Turin, Manchester United have another huge match ahead of them as they prepare to take on bitter rivals Manchester City.

The Red Devils travel across the city to face their ‘noisy neighbours’ at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon as they bid to win a fourth-straight match in all competitions.

However, their manager Jose Mourinho has told his side to ‘grow up’ and stop relying on their ability to come back as he urges them to stop giving their opponents the advantage early on in games.

  • France boss Deschamps defends ‘misunderstood’ Pogba

France manager Didier Deschamps believes Paul Pogba’s strained relationship with the media is due to the “unfair criticism” he has received in the past.

Deschamps said the misunderstood Manchester United midfielder had learned to cope with it.

Pogba played an important role as France won the World Cup in Russia this year.

The 25-year-old has however been criticised by the media for not consistently exerting his influence at United amid talk of a rift with manager Jose Mourinho last season.

“I have spoken to him about his relationship with the media and I think he is been unfairly criticised in the past.

“That is why there has been this aggressive vibe and he had this strained relationship,” Deschamps told the British media.

“But criticism is part of the job and I think you learn to take that on board as you get more experienced.

“That is what happened with him and I think he has gained some respect.”

Deschamps said the outside world had an incorrect perception of United’s record signing.

“The rest of the world, and certainly in France, has an image of Pogba that doesn’t really reflect who he is.

“There’s this idea that he’s a bit individualistic, that’s not the case,” former France international Deschamps added.

“He joined us ready to become a world champion and he took the whole squad with him.”

Meanwhile, Pogba said United had to attack more when playing at Old Trafford, following their disappointing 1-1 draw against promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

“We are at home and we should play much better against Wolves. We are here to attack,” Pogba said.

“When we play like that, it’s easier for us. I think teams are scared when they see united attacking. That was our mistake.

“Maybe the attitude should be better and we should play better because, again, we are at Old Trafford.

“We should just attack and press like we did against Tottenham, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal last season.”

United host Derby County in the League Cup third round on Tuesday before travelling to West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday.

  • World Cup celebrations rock France

Newspapers and TV stations hailed France’s World Cup victory on Monday, while clean-up crews worked against the clock to tidy up after a crazy night’s partying in Paris ahead of a victory parade down the Champs Elysees.

“Our Day of Glory Is Here” declared Le Figaro, referencing a rousing line from the Marseillaise anthem.

“History Made” announced sports daily L’Equipe, while business journal Les Echos went for the more straightforward “Champions of the World.”

Photos of superstars Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Paul Pogba, as well as shots of the team holding aloft and kissing the trophy, dominated coverage.

The victory has created a sense of national unity, with commentators playing up the fact the squad, the second-youngest in the competition, includes many with central and North African heritage, even if all but two were born in France.

When the country won its first World Cup in 1998, when Zinedine Zidane was its talisman and playmaker, the team was referred to as “Black-Blanc-Beur” (Black-White-Arab), a positive reference to its diverse ethnic make-up.

But some were keen to push that phrase to one side, seeing in it a sense of separateness, even if it was meant positively.

“We’re not in 1998,” said Mounir Mahjoubi, the secretary of state for digital affairs, whose parents emigrated from Morocco.

“We’re not still celebrating ‘Black-Blanc-Beur,’ we’re celebrating brotherhood,” he said of the current team.

Videos shot by the players in the frenetic changing room after the win showed them singing, dancing and raising a toast together, while teaching President Emmanuel Macron, who could barely contain his excitement, how to do a “dab.”

For Macron, who became president last year at the age of 39, taking his political movement to victory against the odds, the football team’s success is likely to have positive repercussions after a slump in the polls.

The Paris metro system got into the celebratory mood, announcing the names of a number of stations were being briefly changed to honor the players and coach, Didier Deschamps.

So Notre-Dame des Champs station was relabeled “Notre Didier Deschamps,” and Victor Hugo was switched to “Victor Hugo Lloris” after the captain and goalkeeper.

The 2 km Champs Elysees, the Arc de Triomphe and the vast Place de la Concorde turned into a heaving sea of people on Sunday night, waving red, white and blue flags, setting off firecrackers and blowing horns until early morning.

On Monday, the after-effects were still visible.

A number of smashed windows, an overturned car and graffiti scrawled here and there, including the phrase “Liberte, Egalite, Mbappe,” a reference to the national motto “Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite.”

On Twitter, Brazil legend Pele paid tribute to the exploits of Mbappe, France’s standout, 19-year-old superstar, saying that if the teenager kept equaling his goal-scoring records, Pele might have to strap his boots back on.

Mbappe replied to the tweet in English saying “The king will always remain the king,” quickly gaining 15,000 retweets.

The team is scheduled to arrive back in France at 14.00 GMT, with crowds set to gather at Charles de Gaulle airport to receive them.

A parade down the Champs Elysees is scheduled for 15.30 GMT, and there will be a formal victory reception with Macron at the Elysee Palace at 16.30 GMT.

It’s not just in Paris that the nation has been taken over with football fever.

From Nice and Marseille in the south to Lille in the north, Nantes in the west and scores of towns and cities in between, TV stations were full of images of red, white and blue clad fans singing in streets and squares.
