  • PDM, AD: we’re not part of the group

Two of the political parties announced as part of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP-led coalition against President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday denied involvement.

The Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) and the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in separate statements, said they remained independent.

PDM National Chairman Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim, said: “the PDM is not part of any coalition of political parties or part of any arrangement to work with a group of political parties for the purpose of 2019 general elections. PDM has never attended any meeting at which such a coalition was discussed, let alone be part of it.”

Flaunting its aims and objectives, which he claimed was not in agreement with other parties mentioned in the coalition, Ibrahim described the PDM as a party of hnonorable people whose single objective may not be to capture power for its own sake.

National Publicity Secretary of the AD, Ms Nola Olayinka, said:

“The attention of the Alliance for Democracy has been drawn to a purported MoU signed by some political parties in Abuja today in which our great party, the AD, was mentioned as being part of.

“We strongly deny any pact with either the PDP or the R-APC or any other political party and we consider it very preposterous for our party to be associated with the pact.

“We are using this medium to inform the  public, all party faithful and the INEC that at no time were we part of the talk and negotiations. We advise that the information should be ignored as a mere ploy to add credence to their MoU with the use of the name of our great party.”

  • 2019: PDM begins mobilisation

The Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) has said it is ready to chart a new course for the country.

Niger State Chairman of the party, Abubakar Gwada, said this after its caucus and elders’ meeting in Minna, the Niger State capital.

He said the party recently inaugurated its National Advisory Council (NAC) in Abuja as part of moves to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2019 in the state.

According to Gwada, who is also the party’s NAC Secretary, PDM has a new deal with Nigeria and Nigerians, and have learned humility by accommodating members from all ethnic and religious divides.

  • APC, PDP, PDM lose supporters to AD in Owo

Scores of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) in Owo Local Government Area have joined the Alliance for Democracy (AD).

The defectors said their action was hinged on the qualities and experience of the AD governorship candidate, Olusola Oke.

The new AD members, who spoke at the party’s rally at Owo, said the support received by the AD was enough reason to associate with a popular party.

Oke, who received the defectors, urged them to spread the “gospel” of development and transformation, which the AD stands for.

He assured them that the party has come to fill the missing link in the state.

Oke said AD remained the only platform whereby the people could heave a sigh of relief and experience good and transformative leadership.

He said retarded development, indebtedness, poverty, hunger, neglect and deteriorating infrastructure had made it imperative for the people to vote for AD.

According to him, it is only the AD, a pan-Yoruba party, that is capable of lifting the state from the present state of ruin and restore it to its pride of place in the comity of states.

Oke told the crowd that gathered at the campaign venue that the AD was specifically revived to re position Ondo State, revive dead and ailing industries , create wealth and health  and  re-engineer human capacity development.

He urged the people not to sell their votes.

His words: “The condition of our state is critical as it is at present.

“But we won’t wait until it gets out of hand, that is why we are interested in the governorship seat.

“Vote for freedom. Vote for liberation. We want to chase away hunger and poverty from the state, you all have a role to play by voting for the AD.”

Oke also toured Emure-Ile, Ago Paanu, Uso and Iyere.

    PDM adopts Ize-Iyamu as candidate

The Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) has adopted the factional governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, as the governorship candidate.

It said the decision was taken after assessing the qualities of the candidates presented by the two dominant parties.

Edo State chairman of the PDM Nosa Omorodion said the PDM would use the resources at its disposal to actualise Pastor Ize-Iyamu  ambition.

He said the PDM would rally other smaller parties to give their support to Pastor Ize-Iyamu.

He noted that there was no need for smaller parties to present candidates that could not go anywhere in the polls.

The PDM chieftain, who held a meeting with the candidate said the change brought upon the country by the APC has been disastrous.

Responding, Pastor Ize-Iyamu said the Edo PDM leaders have demonstrated high level of patriotism and assured that he would not disappoint them and the Edo people, if elected into office.

He promised to integrate the Edo PDM members into his campaign committee, adding that his relationship with the PDM would not stop after the September 10 election.

This they said will enable the governor-elect enjoy a smooth take off with his administration, next year.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the state chairman, Alhaji Abdanis Abubakar Ibrahim and the secretary, Ilyas Badanga, copies of which were made available to newsmen in Lokoja Tuesday.

They stated that the call had become imperative, in order to have a pleasant transition period and for the benefit of an inclusive government that would be mutually beneficial to all and sundry.

The CNPP also commended the measures taken so far by Wada administration towards smooth transition of governance.

  • PDM’ll liberate Bayelsa, says Siasia

The Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) has the best manifesto to liberate Bayelsa State, its governorship candidate, Moses Siasia said yesterday.

Siasia spoke at PDM’s rally at the Sports Complex in Yenagoa, the state capital, which attracted a huge crowd. The election holds on December 5.

The frontline businessman said the state has been battered in the last 17 years because of bad leadership.

He pledged to use his credentials as a “successful” businessman to lead the people and make them prosperous.

Siasia accused past leaders of using the state’s resources to enrich themselves instead of creating jobs for the people.

Siasia said the vestiges of darkness plaguing the state, including underdevelopment, would give way to light, the party’s symbol.

He said: “This is the time to liberate Bayelsans and create a better future for our people. Bayelsans should vote for the torch because our symbol is the torch. Others have an umbrella and a broom. If there is no light, you cannot use the umbrella. If there is no light, you cannot use the broom. So, the light is superior to all of them.

“We will provide good education and we will ensure there is good health care. We will create a great and massive industrialisation in Bayelsa State. We will also turn Bayelsa into a one-stop economic hub and tourist destination. These are the things we are hoping to do in four years of our political leadership, if we have the mandate from the people.”

His party, he said, had robust plans for women empowerment and welfare packages for the elderly.

He said: “As a young man who understands the value that women should be involved in the economic process, we understand the value that women bring in every society. We have come to develop our women.

“We have come to empower our women to take care of their children. Women are proficient when you give them assignments. That is why a woman is my running mate.”

The PDM candidate denied rumours that he was being sponsored by former President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Seriake Dickson.

Siasia said he had no godfather, adding that those who attended his rally were not induced with cash.

He said: “I don’t have a godfather. I have heard stories that the former President is sponsoring me and that Dickson is sponsoring me too. Nobody is sponsoring me. I am saying this with all authority and with the fear of God. I don’t have any godfather.

“The people are my godfathers. We are using political ethos and due process to ensure that there is a real change. I did not mobilise anybody here. I am not the kind of candidate that will share N3,000 to people.

“That is the more reason, even in our radio announcements, I emphasise that they should tell Bayelsans that we don’t have money to share. But we have creativity, productivity, genuineness and truth to give the people of Bayelsa.

“So, the time for Bayelsa to be short-sighted is over; this is the time when our people can be futuristic so that we can create a sustainable future for our people. Some people, who have mortgaged the future of this state, are still there.”

  • ‘Leaders failed Bayelsa’

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) in the December 5 governorship election in Bayelsa State, Mr. Moses Siasia, on Wednesday said bad leadership was the major problem of the state.

The 35-year-old younger brother of National U-23 Team Coach, Samson Siasia, spoke in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, while unveiling a two-point agenda he hoped to implement if elected the governor of the state.

He insisted that past leaders of the state failed because they lacked the capacity to think positively to bring about development.

Siasia, who unveiled job creation and education as his agenda, told journalists and civil society organisations that at 35 years old, he has achieved a lot in business.

He boasted that a company he founded has employed 400 young Nigerian professionals including 70 persons from Bayelsa.

He challenged other governorship candidates to disclose their achievements and contributions to the state in their private capacities.

Siasia said his youthful age would not affect his performance, adding that persons claiming to be experienced achieved nothing with it.

Describing himself as a job creating machine, Siasia promised to use his experience as an entrepreneur to create 30,000 jobs for Bayelsans in two and a half years if given the mandate to govern them.

He said:  “Past leaders of Bayelsa State have failed because they lacked the capacity to think positively to bring about development.

“I will increase the state’s internally generated revenue from N50m to N5bn per month if elected.

“Also, if voted, my administration will diversify the state economy through agriculture and tourism to make Bayelsa an economic pacesetter in the South-South geo-political zone. I will increase workers’ minimum wage from N18,000 to N25,000, while there would be prompt payment of gratuity to pensioners.”

On Education, he said there would be free education for primary and secondary school pupils across the state.

He said bursary for students in the institutions of higher learning would be increased by 100 per cent.

Siasia promised to increase power supply by 80 per cent, while the state would have an International Airport within the period of two years of his government.

Siasia unveiled Mrs. Irene Opuene, a civil servant from Akasa Town in Brass local government area of the state as his running mate.

  • We haven’t endorsed Jonathan for Presidency – PDM

We haven’t endorsed Jonathan for Presidency – PDM

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), Alhaji Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim has warned against the use of the name of the party in endorsing President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the March 28, 2015 Presidential election.

The PDM Chairman said in a statement in Abuja that the party has already endorsed the APC presidential candidate as its candidate for the election and dissociate itself from a group which addressed a news conference in Akure in the name of the party endorsing the president.

According to him, those who addressed the Press conference has no mandate to speak for the party as they were no card carrying members of the PDM having dumped the party in June 2014.

The statement reads “Our attention has been drawn to a press conference, addressed by some aggrieved members of APC who defected to the party from PDM last year, at which they endorsed the candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan in the forthcoming presidential election.

“The press conference was held on Monday, March 16th, 2015 in Akure, capital of Ondo State. These APC members turned PDP agents are, reportedly, aggrieved that APC had not met their expectation during its last presidential primary and are unhappy with the position PDM has taken in support of the candidature of General Muhammadu Buhari.

“We wish to make it categorically clear that members of the group that addressed the press conference in question are not members of PDM. They defected from our Party in June last year to pursue their aspiration in APC and are no longer members of our Party.

“Since they are not card-carrying members of PDM, they do not speak for PDM nor have any basis for doing so. While we wish them luck with their new project of supporting President Goodluck Jonathan in the forthcoming election, we call on them to desist from using the name of PDM in this obviously sponsored and commercial misadventure. They should find another platform to realise their aspiration since PDM is not for the highest bidder.

“The National Executive Committee of PDM had, at its meeting of January 22, 2015 unanimously, without any dissension, resolved to support the candidature of General Muhammadu Buhari and our Party will stand by that commitment until the end.

“Our members are already busy canvassing for support for Gen. Buhari across the country and will not be distracted from doing so. These political jobbers should please leave PDM out of their Jonathan-for-president misadventure.”
